Re: Pop Plus: Solo Coming to DSiWare

worrybomb

@ Nic:

I can definitely understand wanting to have a product in time for DSi launch but while you say 800 Points would be the complete package, I'm seeing it'll cost 500 Points to download Solo and I sincerely doubt the Vs. version will cost 300 Points. And I'm not really looking forward to spending 1,000 Points for both versions when past complete versions cost much less. I'm hoping to hear the official pricing for both versions soon.

Still, I'm excited to hear more ideas coming from you guys whether its DSiWare or WiiWare. Good luck!

Re: Adventure Island: The Beginning - First Video

worrybomb

While the character animations and the background could be a little bit more livelier (heck, I wish this game would have animated FMV a la Waio Land: Shake It), I gotta say it's not that bad looking from what I previously thought. With that said, it's all about the gameplay so I hope Hudson did a great job on capturing the old AI essence. I'll wait for a review on this to see if it's worth purchasing.

Re: Pop Plus: Solo Coming to DSiWare

worrybomb

It's great Nnooo is bringing the Pop series to the DS but it kind of stinks to have to buy the solo and Vs. versions instead of one complete package. Still, the DSi launch is coming along nicely with this and Wayforward's own game. Here's hoping for more 3rd party announcements in the coming weeks.

Re: Bit.Trip.Beat Coming To WiiWare On Monday

worrybomb

Well according to an interview with Gaijin Games' Chris Osborn, Bit.Trip: Beat will be under 1000 Wii Points but of course Nintendo has the official last word.

Still if the gameplay meets my expectations, I wouldn't mind shelling out 1000 Wii Points for it.

Re: Bit.Trip.Beat Coming To WiiWare On Monday

worrybomb

Yes!

One of my anticipated WiiWare titles is coming soon and I'm ready to be engulfed in the 8-bit tunes covered with Atari 2600 graphics. It'll probably be my third WiiWare title where I will download it instantaneously (being joined by Mega Man 9 and World of Goo). =)

Re: Review: Gradius ReBirth (WiiWare)

worrybomb

Good review Corbie. Since I haven't bought any shooters lately on the VC, I rather much concentrate on that and hold off from getting Gradius Rebirth.

I still play the PSP Gradius Collection even though its not the best translation of Gradius I played.

Re: Rumour: EarthBound Not Coming to Virtual Console

worrybomb

I await the riot that is bound to happen here.

It's definitely a shame though that Earthbound won't be on the VC if this is true. The game has a pretty dedicated and passionate fanbase but it looks like with this and the Mother 3 situation, we may never see Earthbound (except for a cameo in a Super Smash Bros. game).

Re: Hudson Not Abandoning Virtual Console After All?

worrybomb

To Corbie or Dazza: You think it'll be possible to send our lists of most wanted Hudson Soft VC titles to Hudson? At least to show them that people are still clamoring for more VC support. =)

As for Hudson Soft games, I would like to see come stateside/Europe (not in alphabetical order):

Parasol Stars (TG-16)
Parodius (TG-16)
Adventure Island 2, 3, and 4 (2 and 3 - NES/ 4 - Famicom)
Super Adventure Island I and II (SNES)
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (TG-16)
Star Soldier (N64)
Hagane (SNES)
Space Fantasy Zone (TG16)
Aero Blaster (TG16)
Cadash (TG16)
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (TG16)

Re: Review: LIT (WiiWare)

worrybomb

Welcome Scott and great first review. Glad you went into specifics about the controls.

It sounds like you'll go through a lot of trial and error especially with the somewhat touchy controls, but overall LIT sounds like a great game. WiiWare definitely needs more original concepts like LIT and I'll make sure to get this in the near future. Bit.Trip.Beat has to come first, you know.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: LIT

worrybomb

Understandable. It's probably a bit premature to ask but when DSiWare hits, will the "WiiWare-World" name change?

I second the 1-10 scale. =)

Re: USA WiiWare Update: LIT

worrybomb

While Bit.Trip.Beat may be the only WiiWare title I'm anticipating for in February (if it does come out this month), I've been also keeping a close eye on LIT. Judging from Corbie's quick impressions, it seems like a good title so far. I'm hoping WayForward does deliver with this title because I would definitely love to see Shantae on WiiWare.

I'll be looking forward to Scott's first WWW review. Welcome aboard!

Re: Even More Onslaught Screens Break Cover

worrybomb

1) How long was the development process for Onslaught?
2) What inspired you to make a game like Onslaught for WiiWare? For example, were you inspired by games such as "The Conduit" and "MP3:C" or did you believe that the Wii's library of FPS games is barren?
3) Is Onslaught WiiWare the testing ground for a franchise you want to delve into more in the future?
4) If you can choose one thing that seperates Onslaught from the rest of the competition on Wii, what will that be?
5) Price point and a date set for Onslaught?

...and finally just in case nobody has thought of it (also it's not Onslaught-related):

6) Bomberman '94 will be making its appearance to the Virtual Console in the near future (due to the OFLC). Does that mean Hudson havn't fully abandoned VC support just yet?

Re: Bubble Bobble Plus Out On WiiWare Next Week

worrybomb

"...If you are in Japan of course!"

That's Dazza all right...always pulling our leg. =P

I'm hoping to see some video footage once it is released in Japan. I'll also be praying that the character designs look better on video than they do on the screenshots we have been seeing.

Re: Hudson's Upcoming WiiWare Games Revealed

worrybomb

@ TR - Wild West Guns is a shooter game akin to Lethal Enforcers and Hogan's Alley. A first person shooter game lets the player move with freedom; not in a predetermined path or a still one.

Onslaught sounds interesting. I would definitely love to see some photos/video footage of the game. I hope the WiiWare size limit is enough for a solid FPS game.

I'm glad that Adventure Island WiiWare is not a retro game. Not so sure about the mini-games aspect though. As long as the single player quest is solid, then that's enough for me. I'm really hoping Hudson can make this a great platformer game.

Re: Bubble Bobble Plus Gets Rated for Western Release

worrybomb

I could live without online play and I could live with paying more Wii Points for the stage packs but please Taito/Square Enix: make the character models in BBP a little more presentable than what is shown in the screenshots. I mean even the NES version of Bubble Bobble had better designs compared to BBP.

Re: Gaijin Games Interview - Bit.Trip Beat

worrybomb

Great interview. Bit.Trip is definitely becoming one of my must-have WiiWare games of 2009. I'm glad Alex N. was inspired by such musical rhythm games as Parappa and Rez (some of my all-time fav games of the genre). Plus it's nice to hear that the game will be less than 1,000 Wii Points.

But from what I'm hearing so far about it, I wouldn't mind paying 1,000 Wii Points. =)

Re: LIT Coming To US WiiWare on February 9th

worrybomb

Great price for LIT. I was also expecting the game to priced 1,000 Wii Points or up. Although I liked LIT's earlier sketches, I'm still looking forward to the game. Gonna have to wait and see if it is indeed worth the 800 Wii Points.

On a different note, happy b-day to Corbie and happy belated b-day to Dazza!! Even if I could give Corbie a gift, I definitely wouldn't top the arcade cabinet. =P

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Snowboard Riot & Lonpos

worrybomb

Oh man. I was expecting SAMEGAME to appear this week. Now Dazza is 50/50 with predictions. Darn you Nintendo! It's bad enough you mixed up Hudson release dates but now you screwed with Dazza's predictions!!?? =P

As for Snowboard Riot, it looks like it'll be a fun game but I'll wait for a review before purchasing. Lonpos, I can do without.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Niki - Rock 'n' Ball

worrybomb

Dazza's predictions usually come true. =P

It's a toss up on which 500 Wii Points game I'm going to download today. I'll probably wait on reviews for both Monster Island and Niki - Rock 'n' Ball. Niki does have a slight edge since I love games like Bubble Bobble.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Ignoring WiiWare?

worrybomb

Nintendo made WiiWare in order to not only compete with Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade but to also give third-party developers a chance to put out their content where other doors were closed for them. I don't think Nintendo is ignoring WiiWare by not putting a Mario, Zelda or Metroid WiiWare game. A game like New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, that is still selling mind you, will mostly have a sequel on the NDS. It would be nice as suggested above if Zelda: The Four Sword Adventures would be ported to WiiWare with online play.

IMO, Nintendo needs to do a tad better job at broadcasting WiiWare to the public. Aside from World of Goo and Mega Man 9, there's no advertisement for other games like Toki Tori or MaBoShi both games which display what the WiiWare service is all about. Also another way of WiiWare getting some notice is by upping the WiiWare size limit so a game like Animales De La Muerte can be released through the service. It's a pain to leave at some features out of a game or break down your game as "episodic content". I'm not saying a 40MB game isn't worth the time or Wii points but in order to make an impact, I certainly think this would be a good way. C'mon Nintendo...release that "direct download-to-SD card" feature and raise the size limit.

Re: Ten Games We'd Like To See On The Virtual Console In 2009

worrybomb

Definitely agree with Phantasy Star (SMS), Yoshi's Island (SNES), Earthbound (SNES), Contra Hard Corps (Genesis/MD), and Rondo of Blood (TG-16 CD). Here's my ten games wishlist, in no particular order.

  • Battletoads (NES): Yes, Rare made it and ports/remakes of Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie are heading to Xbox Live instead of the VC. Still, it'll be great if Battletoads would get a VC release. Remaking the game, in my opinion, would lose it's charm so if Rare can hear us, they'll tell Microsoft to have a heart and allow them to release Battletoads to the VC.
  • U.N. Squadron (SNES): Yes another shooter. But I'll gladly trade most of the shooters in the VC library for this one. One of the best shooter games I have played and one I would gladly download in a heartbeat
  • Super Mario Kart (SNES): Sure you can have your Mario Kart fix on the DS and Wii but you haven't played Mario Kart until you played it with the Feather power-up.
  • Contra (NES): Why hasn't this game already released? What's taking Konami this long??
  • Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis/MD): Once a title only available on the Sega Channel, it'll be great to release it to an audience that never even knew the Genesis had a Sega Channel.
  • Sega CD games: Okay let's be realistic. Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast games aren't going to be available through the Virtual Console...at least during the Wii's VC life cycle. So can we have Sega CD games instead? While most of the library is crud, you still have great titles like Sonic CD, Lunar CD, Shining Force CD, Snatcher, Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Darkside, Earthworm Jim: Special Edition, Final Fight CD, etc. It'll be great if you introduce this Sega. =)
  • Metal Storm (NES): I heard a lot of praise about this underrated NES title so Irem should definitely re-introduce this gem to a new audience.
  • Little Nemo: The Dream Master (NES): If it is indeed true that Capcom is in the clear to release this title, then do it Capcom! Put down those re-releases of Street Fighter and release this game now!
  • Excitebike 64 (N64): I gotta mention a N64 title when it's all said and done, this title will be a great addition to the VC. Heck it'll be one of the great racers to be released on the Wii. So definitely release Excitebike 64. Great fun!
  • Skitchin' (Genesis/MD): While I would love Road Rash to be released on the VC, you really want a fisticuffs competition to the finish line, then Skitchin' is the game for you. Accompanied by a rockin' soundtrack, it's game that'll make you beat someone up. Just make sure to beat up the video game skaters only.

Re: Talking Point: Is the Virtual Console On The Slide?

worrybomb

It's really a shame that the Virtual Console service is being pushed into the shadows as each year passes by. We've received some great titles in 2008 but now the Virtual Console seemed better in idea than a reality. Hudson is now concentrating on WiiWare games instead of TG-16 and you can't really blame them. When's the last timem, aside from Ys I & II, have you seen anything TG-16 related in the VC Popular Titles category? Neo Geo also is releasing compilations of their franchises of yesteryear on the cheap since none of Neo Geo's games are selling well on the VC. Licensed games (like Capcom games from Disney franchises) would've help the service but that's not going to happen.

Now only that but Nintendo is also to blame, constantly "promising" titles on select dates only to release a different set of VC titles (Hudson felt that numerous times). I just hoping Sega will introduce some Sega CD games before the VC fades away.

Re: WiiWare World - Best of 2008

worrybomb

I agree with the list. You can't go wrong with any of those 5 WiiWare games.

Honorable mentions (for me, at least) are: Bomberman Blast, Dr. Mario Online Rx, Groovin' Blocks, Maboshi's Arcade, Tetris Party

Two questions: 1) Will we see other "Best of" lists from other staff/editors of WiiWare-World.com or is this the official list? 2) Will there be a "Worst of" list?

Re: USA VC Update: Phantasy Star IV

worrybomb

Another one Virtual Console title week but it is a good one. Unfortunately I have Phantasy Star IV in a compilation so I won't be downloading this. If you like RPGs then this one should be downloaded immediately. Hopefully Phantasy Star (Master System) will be released in the future.

And hopefully NoA has a surprise for us Virtual Console consumers like NoE did for their base.

Re: Fun! Fun! Minigolf Wants To Be In Your Christmas Stocking!

worrybomb

Shin'en is known to deliver in the graphics and audio department and judging from the trailer, it looks like they did just that. Hopefully the gameplay will be intact as well.

But yes the graphics do look great. It almost looked like as if it were a "Hot Shots Golf" retail game.

Re: Review: Bruiser & Scratch (WiiWare)

worrybomb

Good review Corbie. I was hoping I would be wrong in siding with IGN's review of the game but I guess some of that Naughty Dog magic didn't transfer to B&S. Here's to hoping Steel Penny gives it another go.

As for bullet hell shooters, I do love Bangai-O Spirits and I'm hoping Ikaruga will have a special price discount during Xbox's Deal of the Week throughout all of December.

Re: Review: Bang! (WiiWare)

worrybomb

It looks like fun but it also looks like you'll get bored after playing 5 levels. It doesn't help that it looks like an average cell phone game. If it was priced 400 Wii Points or lower, I would bite (if it comes to US) but for now, I'll pass.

Re: USA VC Update: Mega Man 3

worrybomb

It stinks that we're back to one VC game a week and it stinks even more that Space Invaders Get Even wasn't released either. The saving grace is Mega Man 3. While it won't hold a special place in my heart like Mega Man 2, the game is plenty of bang for your 500 Wii Points. Plus I know a lot of people enjoy Mega Man 3 more compared to the rest of the Mega Man NES entries.

Re: Gradius Rebirth Gets ESRB Rated

worrybomb

I'm hoping Gradius Rebirth turns out to be a fun game and not a quick cash-in like so many previews I have read when it was released.

As for Monday, I'm thinking Alien Crush Returns as well. Originally set for release in October, it was bumped for the Art Style game Rotohex. Hopefully we'll see alien pinball madness this coming Monday.

Re: Gradius Rebirth

worrybomb

Well today gives us confirmation that Gradius Rebirth will indeed hit the NA region at some point. It has been rated by the ESRB.

Re: EU VC Releases - NES Halloween Trio

worrybomb

I kind of knew Europe was getting Castlevania 3 right on time for Halloween. Along with Devil World it's a pretty sweet VC update. Enjoy Europe and Happy Halloween!

Hopefully Castlevania 3 will come this Monday to NA.

Re: Review: Art Style: Rotohex (WiiWare)

worrybomb

Great review Corbie. I hope this isn't the end of the Art Style series. Not only are they great games but they have been pretty popular here in NA with little to no coverage before they are released. More Art Style plz! =)

Re: Cue Sports: Snooker vs. Billiards Coming To WiiWare In November

worrybomb

Could it mean Alien Crush Returns this coming Monday for NA? Maybe but don't hold your breath since Nintendo shunted Hudson releases a few times in the past.

Cue Sports is okay I guess for a billiards game but it does have something Wii Play billiards and Midnight Pool do not have: Wi-Fi. It looks like you may be able to play against people through Wi-Fi but don't hold me to that. If it does though, it's a definite buy for me if the gameplay also is good.
