As the default control device for the NSW, it's an absolute shame that the joycons are this unreliable. As an opinion, it's even unethical, because we don't have a choice but to deal with the all the good and the bad things that come with joycons. Nintendo should've have been more transparent with the joycons at the very start and should've owned up to the issues much earlier.
It's great to see some countries get unlimited free repairs from Nintendo, I hope they make that world wide to prove that they stand by their product.
@sanderev I see your point on how it might stop innovation. Another way to look at it is that the big 3 might be able to combine efforts and resources to offer more meaningful hardware innovation to the gaming industry.
And thanks for clarifying, I meant a tv-only console. But this would kill the NSW concept...lol. I guess the point I was making is finding a way of legally enabling players to play exclusives without having to shell out more for an whole new console or gaming device...reduce e-footprint, reduce the physical space each console would take up, and reduce the clutter with less of everything.
Technically speaking, it's possible...you're right - we already have the PC ...I suppose it would be great if all games had an official PC version, this would be another way around it.
...wouldn't it be nice to have a universal console where you're just pay a subscription or a physical chip or a digital license from Sony to play PS games, Microsoft to play xbox games, and Nintendo to play nintendo games. All you need is one physical console unit.
I liked the teaser…it will be interesting how the game will impress the players. In terms of gameplay, I didn’t catch anything new from what was teased, but I hope they introduce a new mechanic in addition to what made 1 and 2 enjoyable and successful.
If Nintendo would just refresh the UI, it would make the Switch feel not as old as it is. This is a fantastic concept for a UI refresh, and I hope we can see something...anything from Nintendo on this subject.
I want this to be great for my kid. But I’m not sold just yet. All points raised by the others are valid (great marketing video, need real game footage, etc). I need to be frugal, and I have a feeling that this might go on sale sooner than later...and I might pick it up then if it’s any good. It will take something really special for me to buy this at full price.
First time I tried Mizu, I ran out of time....got caught up exploring for buffs, and I carted once because I was trying to make up the lost time by being reckless in combat. I managed it the 2nd time when I was more focused on combat and I managed to clear the quest in about 40mins. Slow compared to the average. I used LS for both attempts.
For me, what's more frustrating is that there is no real solution for the Joycon analog stick drift issue at this point in time, even in the DIY space. Doing the DIY workarounds (replacement analog stick, cleaning) will eventually lead to the same drift issue after a while. Its great if you can tinker with the joycons comfortably to perform these DIY workarounds, but that kind of upkeep is not what I expect with the asking price of joycons. I can imagine how much more frustrating it is for people who can't do these DIY workarounds and have to deal with Nintendo support (if it's even available), or have to shell out more money to get new joycons that will also eventuallt drift. This frustration does not even deal with how much it ruins the gaming experience.
I hope that Nintendo or 3rd party component manufacturers can finally find a breakthrough and engineer a permanent solution for analog sticks in the joycon.
As a dream scenario, I wish that Nintendo would just rollout a 10 year no questions asked replacement warranty program if the joycons drift. Within 10 years from the time you got the NSW, you can claim a replacement for drifting joycons as many times as needed. If your joycon drifts, just take it to your local retailer and with proof that it really drifts and get a new joycon as replacement. Same case applies if you purchased joycons separately. I think, if this happens, Nintendo will make it their business to fix the joycon drift issue.
There are many amicable ways of resolving the concerns with having one island per switch for a multi-player household while respecting those that are more familiar with that mechanic from previous AC games.
One approach (and others here already thought of) is that Nintendo can introduce a new mechanic/option for residents own an island in conjunction with the main island. Maybe, as an option with Tom Nook...when a resident already completed their house upgrades...for a price (bells...not real money). Resident that own an island can manage their own island without the need for the island representative of the main island.
Since this is an option, players that would like to continue playing in only one island can continue to do that. While those that feel confined by the one island mechanic will have a way to overcome that.
Again, there are many other ways for Nintendo to respond to this common complaint...and many other complaints. I guess the most important point is to give players that flexibility by providing options. Hopefully, they respond sooner than later.
@Kalmaro Nice alternative. You're right, it's not elegant, but if it works, it works Also, if you already have that product on hand or don't really travel a lot, it's certainly more practical/economical.
I also got the covert dock in kickstarter. I supported the campaign because:
It addressed the challenges of travelling with the official dock and power adapter. To anyone, like me, that experienced travelling with the official dock and adapter...I think it's easier to understand the appeal of the Covert Dock. There is also an additional benefit of leaving the official dock and adapter connected to my home setup, specially because I like to keep all cables hidden from sight.
The makers responded really well to bricking concerns. They published an article to address this specific concern, and they were very responsive.
Unfortunately, with the pandemic, travelling is down to 0 and there's really no chance to maximize the covert dock.
To be clear, I am not requiring everyone to do what I did, I’m merely sharing another workaround to the community in the same spirit of the article. If anyone does not feel technically proficient to follow the steps, no need to do it. Do the workaround at your own risk and don’t blame anyone if it doesn’t work. I followed the guide because I had nothing to loose...my pro con was already unplayable with severe drifting.
For a “background story” on the condition of my pro con, I have two pro cons. One bought earlier than the other with the 2nd/newer one getting less use until ACNH came out. Both are stored just on top of the tv console. With that scenario, my 2nd pro con started to drift ahead of the 1st pro con. The 2nd pro con was tolerable to play with until a few days ago...when I try to go right with the L joystick, it would go left instead. It would even keep going left for a couple of seconds even without touching the L joystick.
I have contact cleaner on hand, but that’s just a temporary fix with my experience with the joy cons. Calibrating didn’t solve the drift issue too.
I wonder how this works for places where there is no official Nintendo service center or support...If I were to send this in for repair to a country where there is Nintendo support, the shipping expense would be discouraging...maybe that's why others prefer to try and fix it themselves.
Good on Nintendo to offer repairs for free even outside the warranty period.
Having 2 switch units in my household makes the proposition of buying a Switch Lite...excessive? In any case, all points made in the article were also my concerns...I might consider purchasing one if the issue is fixed...I mean the Lite certainly becomes more appealing knowing that the analog stick won't be a prob.
I played it for a bit on the Switch and to echo what many pointed out - it is playable...to me, not having played this in other platforms to compare performance may be the reason why I feel that this game is not as bad as others say. Although, I haven’t spent a lot of time on it yet...just tried to play the 1st level.
Having said that, I did experience a game crash in the 1st level when I activated the first bookcase/book shelf. This is the first time I experienced a game crash on the Switch.
On the matter of the cartridge...I agree with the common consensus that the cartridge should have the full game or at least a version of the game that is close to bug free. This ups the value of the cartridge because it allows us to play it without relying on Nintendo servers for the patches. It’s a shame what the industry has become when it comes to physical game distribution practices.
This is probably a silly question, but I have no idea about how the South East Asia (SEA) region is identified in the cartridge. Where I'm at, I've noticed that the supply of physical games show the "USA" or "EU" code at the end of the serial # that's printed on the sticker of the cartridge...is there a different code for SEA?
I haven't played Dark Souls (on my to do list) but compared to the footage I've seen of Dark Souls compared to the footage of Animus above...Animus visuals looks inferior. For someone like me, I feel like spending my money on Dark Souls is the better choice.
My wish list in order of priority: 1) Better battery performance...not by using a bigger/heavier battery but by using more efficient components and a better battery using latest advancements. 2) Bluetooth support for headphones and mics. It’s a shame they didn’t include this in the first place. 3) Double internal memory capacity. This will help when native file sizes of games might start to get bigger in the future...at least we can surely save 1 or 2 large games on the switch. 4) A much better performance in docked mode (for graphic intensive games). Maybe this change can be done on the switch itself or they can release a new dock with its own GPUs that crank up docked mode experience. Frame rate drops should never happen in docked mode. 5) A lighter switch (same size).
Nintendo should just allow us to use the SD card to store our game saves, specially RPGs. Our progress, our file, our choice. It really feels like our save files are held hostage.
On cheating concerns in online games...this can surely be managed at this time and age as aptly pointed out by many that commented.

I followed a guide I found and it worked out really well for my drifting (2nd) pro con. This process was not mentioned in the article.
