Ugh - "hit by layoffs", please don't use passive voice making it sound like a natural disaster or something unavoidable rather than poor management by EA and them CHOOSING to do what they always do - cut jobs, screw people over, and give execs a big bonus for it.
Ugh - as someone who played and loved the original (REAL) Marathon THREE DECADES ago on the Mac ... seeing them steal a legendary name and even the icon and use it for ... THIS generic mess that is already forgotten by most who bothered to watch the trailer - sad.
Yeah, loads of fixes ... and while I have not encountered significant issues I am pretty early in the game (focusing on replaying Cyberpunk with new DLC).
It is lots of casual cozy fun ... but it is really hard to recommend at $60 - at $40 I would be much more positive about suggesting people buy. I've heard it is because the Switch is getting DLC that will cost $ on PC, but whatever.
@Poodlestargenerica Exactly same - I absolutely loved the first one on PSP and second one on PC, neither of which are available anymore ... so I would love this (or just availability of old ones!) but not losing sleep over it.
I also enjoyed it quite a bit on the PSP when it came out, so will definitely grab this one! I've only ever played Final Fantasy games on handheld (GBA, PSP, Vita, Switch), so keeping up that tradition!
Yeah, these are PC games. I am happy with Divinity Original Sin 2 on Switch, although it is better on iPad. But PoE was an absolute hot mess, better leave Deadfire on PC since they gave up on making the first one work on Switch.
I'm about halfway through and thoroughly enjoying it - it is definitely challenging, and at best RPG-lite, but still a blast. I too had only played the GBA version - I'm a PC gamer first and foremost, but never skip a chance to get in some D&D gaming on a handheld (anyone remember D&D Tactics on PSP?). I agree that $30 is steep, but compared with many games I honestly have no regrets.
Jedi Outcast was pretty much a hot mess of a port (closer to the inferior GameCube version than the XBOX port) ... so this news only confirms that I should wait for a big sale, and play my PC copy instead.
Love this series - got the first US game when it released for PSP back in 2005 and have played them all since (on PSP, then PS Vita, and now Switch). I just finished Trails of Cold Steel III last week (took me at least 150 hours!), and decided to dive back to Trails in the Sky on PS Vita (it is a PSP game) ... wish the initial PSP trilogy had gotten digital releases!
@jump I think that remains a key item of debate. It HAS seen a few patches and updates. I played the whole thing after release and it was a hot mess compared to the PC version but I still found it very playable.
I replayed about half after the last major patch (the one before the expansion) and many things were improved - graphics quality and consistency, pop in, crispness of textures, load times, performance in general ... and yet it is definitely still not up to par with the PC release.
Ultimately the answer is “it depends” - if you have spent the years playing rough and under-polished PC games, you will not have an issue ... but if you are more used to polished console games, this one is still a bit rough. But still a good game.
I have my doubts about how well it will perform/control, and it has already been mega-discounted for PC, so unless there is a huge sale I am unlikely to buy it.
@Late I just bought Fire Emblem Three Houses on the sale last week and am going Black Eagle route, barely started - haven't played a Fire Emblem game since Shadow Dragon on the DS which was ... wow, nearly a dozen years ago!
Well - glad I held off when there was a discount pre-order option on GoG for the PC version ... just had a bad feeling about it. Instead I replayed the original PC version last weekend and while it is far from perfect it remains charming and has a solid art-style that made it stand out in 2003 (just as things were starting to move to constantly ‘dark & gritty’ self-serious shooters!)
I replayed my GoG version on PC when the remake was announced ... and I enjoyed it just like I did in 2003. Never was a great game, but I had a load of fun then and now. Good thing I skipped pre-ordering the PC version of the remake.
@DoktorTotenKopf Have you ever heard of the 'Steam Sale'? It is partly responsible for vast numbers of purchased games that will never be played but were simply 'too good of a deal' to pass up!
Myself, I played on release and a couple of times since ... good game (better IMO than most all of the Far Cry follow-ups). Will watch to see how this one looks and plays.
@Elvie The first two games are amongst the best action-RPGs of the last 15 years, with each offering a glimpse into a transition of Bioware skills from more RPG-only to story-drivin-RPG-shooter. Even not playing #3 (which is still honestly better than many, many other games, just disappointing given the setup) the first two are absolutely worth playing. To be clear - if you consider yourself an RPG fan but haven't played these ... you aren't.
@Razer Exactly - I remembered that the GameCube port of Jedi Outcast was atrocious ... and the Switch version is really no better. It sucks the joy out of one of the greatest games of all time. I wouldn’t try Jedi Academy for free on the Switch (just replayed the whole series on PC, where it belongs).
This review is pretty out of whack, based on playing Jedi Outcast on Switch, and then on PC ... and also playing Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Academy on PC.
The Switch port of Jedi Outcast was abysmal - gameplay was atrocious. Best of all is Jedi Academy, followed by Jedi Outcast ... even after 17 years Jedi Fallen Order doesn't match those classics in terms of lightsaber combat. Not even close.
Jedi Outcast on Switch was SO AWFUL ... one of the best all-time games, but a terrible port. I replayed both on PC after trying to slog my way through the Switch version. Hope the Jedi Academy port doesn’t suck like JKII, but not holding my breath!
@Gwynbleidd Exactly - mediocre ports at an astronomical price for ~20 year old games that you could buy for 80% less on mobile. Absolutely nail the sentiment - only thing jaw-dropping about all of Beamdog’s Switch stuff (BG 1 & 2, Planescape and Icewind, and NWN:EE) is the pricing.
@alpha5099 True - I finished the first one but barely scratched the surface on #2 ... love the series since playing the first PSP release (only ever played any of them on Sony handhelds)
I love the Beamdog ‘enhanced editions’ of the various Baldur’s Gate & Neverwinter Nights games ... and even got the Android port several months ago. BUT - that was $9.99 ... and THIS is $50?!? WTF - sorry, I have bought NWN for PC DVD, Mac DVD, digital editions For Steam and GoG, enhanced editions and Android ... and for <$20 I would get this. But c’mon, seriously?

Re: Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Dev Shares Update On Launch Issues
@MirrorFate2 Because the ENTIRE focus of the complaints is about multiplayer.
I only play any of this in single player offline, and it is flawless, just as I remember.

Re: Torchlight III Adds 'Cursed Captain', New Pets And More In Free Update
Still a dreary and completely unnecessary addition to the series and genre. Play Torchlight II and pretend this doesn't exist.

Re: Tiny Racer On Switch Is Officially The Worst Game Of 2020, According To Metacritic
@Silly_G The PC version is incredible - looks great and plays great, I've not had a single crash or noticeable bug across several hours.
As for the console versions though - totally agree!

Re: XIII Remake's Launch On PS4 Doesn't Give Us Much Hope For The Switch Release
@fluggy The PC version is on Steam for $2.39 and only $5.99 on GoG DRM-Free so no need for anything ‘nefarious’!
Re: PSP Prinny Platformers Slide To Switch This October
@diegoarthur haha - same. I loved Disgaea on PSP and enjoyed Prinny 1 ... but didn’t keep track and never heard of the sequel.

Re: Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Won't Let Force Users Invert Their Aim On Switch
I have been a fan since 2002 day of release (ok, only on PC) and it remains one of my all time faves, so of course I grabbed it right away for Switch.
Disappointing - graphics are a phony stretch, controls are sloppy and inaccurate, and it all just sucks the fun from the experience.
