One of the most unexpected game announcements for Switch in recent times was Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Like a force ghost, it appeared out of nowhere and all we could really do was wait until it was released to find out what this version of the game would be like.
If you've read the Nintendo Life review, you'll know by now it's not quite up to scratch. One notable omission is multiplayer and there are a few other issues Switch users have been struggling with since the game was released. However, there's one option missing from the game that's making it completely unplayable for some Star Wars fans. This latest version doesn't include inverted controls.
As our friends over at Push Square explain, you can't invert aiming along the Y-Axis or the X-Axis. Fortunately, Aspyr Media says it is already working on an update to add aim inversion and it will be available on all platforms, including the Switch, in the coming weeks.
What's your experience been like so far with the Switch version of this game? Tell us below.

Honestly the more I hear about it, the more it sounds kinda... shoddy?
Why would you want to invert your aim along the X axis? It's not a boat where to turn left you push the rudder right.
That’s a huge omission, lots of players (myself included) can’t cope without inverting the Y-axis. Probably stems from my roots in PC flight sims, but I simply can’t play without it.
I was going to buy this, but I think i’ll just wait for a sale. I would love to try the game, but if it’s missing key feature makes the game unplayable, i’ll just wait for the patch. Even though the game does look like it hasn’t aged well, I still wanna try it.
Edit: The price for this game is $10. I could of sworn it said $15. Aw well. I’ll just wait for the patch, and then buy the game.
I suppose some people would be annoyed by the lack of aim inversion but although I know some people do indeed use that, I've never met a single person who does. I would be legitimately curious to know what percent of games do.
My guess is less than one in five.
@Heavyarms55 What percentage of games offer inverting? I would guess the vast majority. Unplayable to me without that option, but I haven't come across too many where it's missing.
Bought it as soon as it dropped but couldn't get through the first level because of this. Barely played 5 minutes. Glad a fix is coming.
@Toshiro_Baloney Oh I know the majority of games offer inverted controls. I would like to know how many people actually use them. I know plenty of people like you say online that they use them, but I've never met someone IRL who does. It could just be coincidence, but my money is still on only a small minority of players using inverted controls.
As far as I know, there is no data one way or the other. It could be I have it wrong and in-fact the majority do and the coincidence is that I've never met any of them.
@Heavyarms55 I'm one of those people. I find "normal" controls to be completely unplayable and won't play a game if it doesn't offer inverted. There too many good games out there for me to waste my time on ones designed for weirdos that think backward.
@Heavyarms55 probably has to do with the circles you roll with, I’ve never known anyone irl who doesn’t play inverted.
I have been a fan since 2002 day of release (ok, only on PC) and it remains one of my all time faves, so of course I grabbed it right away for Switch.
Disappointing - graphics are a phony stretch, controls are sloppy and inaccurate, and it all just sucks the fun from the experience.
For those that don't invert, and are debating on how many people this really effects, why do you care? Your controls are the way you like them, but if you had to play the opposite way, I'm sure you wouldn't be happy about it. I think those of us that have played flight sims are just use to it. Controls should be configurable for EVERY game, if nothing else just to allow more players to have fun no matter how they want to.
If you grew up under GoldenEye then you likely play inverted 😁
It's a $10 port so I'm not complaining if it is missing a few features. I would gladly pay $10 each for every Star Wars game from that era ported on the switch. Aspyr does a great job and I'm sure they will roll out some updates to fix little issues.
Now if only they could push out an update that helped me 'not-die' over and over again in the first few levels that would be great.
@LJChronx
Inverted TUROK for days!
I play inverted. I picked this up today. I turned the vertical sensitivity for the analog stick all the way down and cranked motion controls to the max. It takes a little patience, but I have been trying to play it like SPLATOON. I am almost done with the second level. When the patch comes it's on!
I have tried to play games with no invert, but it's just not possible for me.The aiming is everywhere if it's not inverted
Inverted Y-Axis is the natural way to aim. Don't believe me?
Place a stick on your head. Move it forward..Face Down..= Inverted.
Also. Flight sims with no invert? LOL
@Heavyarms55 I don't know anyone who doesn't invert. So many that I don't understand why inverted isn't the default, since 'regular' aiming is actually inverted, considering the natural motion of tilting forward to look down, and back to look up.
Much better article than the rigid and condescending one from push square who think they are better than everyone.
It’s great to hear they’re working on this. I bought it earlier and gyro aiming is in there so I’m sure this is just a minor oversight. With any luck the patch will land by the time I’ve finished Link’s Awakening!
I’m not sure how I ended up preferring inverted, I think it stems from GoldenEye but it’s how I’ve always played shooters so trying to play without inverted is totally alien to me.
I would always invert the Z Axis with these type of games
I don't ever invert my controls but I am glad it is being patched in, many people rely on it.
@Heavyarms55 It depends on the game/console for me. Turok: Rage Wars had inverted aiming, with no option to disable it, so I was kind of forced to get used to it. I play a lot of N64 FPS that way, now.
"If you've read the Nintendo Life review", No, no I gave those schill "reviews" up a long time ago. Everyone can tell they're bought and paid for. Journalism on this site died when Tom left. Now I just pop in from time to time to see the headlines. It's a shame too, I used to really trust this site.
This is a most excellent game (arguably the best SW game), any updates from the devs are greatly welcomed although this particular issues doesn't affect me... but if they could just enable MP so we can have death-matches and our old-school duel battles again that would make this game so awesome on this platform.
@Heavyarms55 As an inverted fan, I’d also be curious. Maybe Nintendo life could run a poll on preference. @AlexOlney
@AG_Awesome That's a good idea. A poll about standard vs inverted controls would prove very interesting! @antdickens
I was going to buy this game this week, but I won't until I can invert the Y.
Glad they are supporting the game with an update to add inverted controls. I'm still upset with the Rime developers for refusing to add inverted camera controls
This is one of those "problems" that I would have never noticed.
@Heavyarms55 If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably the older generation of gamers like myself (38) who grew up playing with inverted controls on early console FPS games or have logged countless hours in PC flight and space sims. I agree with you and AG_Awesome, a poll would be interesting, especially if it's more in depth than simply asking inverted vs. standard.
@WhiteTrashGuy
Thanks for the tip on the controls. It has made the game at least playable until the patch arrives. Cheers.
@WhiteTrashGuy hey I saw that Jedi outcast got patched for the PS4. Did the switch one get the inverted patch as well?
@AG_Awesome
I will check right now!
@AG_Awesome
Not yet.... : ( PS4's online stuff gets updated every Tuesday, so maybe this Thursday for Switch.
@WhiteTrashGuy figures. Well I’ll keep my fingers crossed it’s added soon. I also hope they don’t combine it with motion control like revelations 2 did. I like inverted sticks but regular motion control. Lol.
Anyway, please keep us informed when it’s added.
@AG_Awesome
Agreed.
@AG_Awesome
The update is live in NA. I repeat, the update is LIVE!! MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!!!
(but no crouch toggle)
@WhiteTrashGuy Finally!! I wonder why they can’t do crouch toggle though. Man they really don’t want to do any work with these re releases. 🤣😂
