@Next: i'm pretty sure you're responding to my last comment in this thread, therefore i feel comfortable in stating that particular comment was part of an A-B conversation. I respectfully ask that you C your way out of it. :3
some of you guys keep likening the Lets Play thing to a job, how these people make a living and they should be allowed to continue to do so because Nintendo has done none of the work that went into making the videos, it's free advertising for Nintendo and whatev'... but say I decide to spend the time and effort to type out an entire book I purchased IRL the other day in order to present it to people watching my blog from halfway across the world and get them interested by discussing it as we all read together, maybe even make a bit of money to compensate myself for the time I spent and perhaps purchase an ergonomic keyboard to help me type faster for the next book. even though my intentions are 'good' and any ad revenue was going right back into what i was doing to entertain others, i didn't ask permission to base my own living off of someone else's hard work. I would have no legal leg to stand on should the book publisher or the writer happen across my blog and C&D me. Same for if I were to have spent all my time and effort ripping music from my CDs and then using them in my music-discussing podcast to comment upon them, should the legal copyright holder(s) stumble across my humble podcast they would have absolutely every right to stop me in my tracks.
Nintendo is doing these people a favor by not taking away their ability to create LP videos and host them on YouTube entirely, and if they want to put forth some original content that doesn't rely on extensive video of Nintendo's own games in order to keep making that ad revenue themselves, great! they're obviously still welcome to do so. i'm sure some of them have talent enough to continue making a living even if they decide to avoid Nintendo's intellectual property as a subject from here on out.
The bottom line is that no matter how much of your own time and effort you're putting into something, you can't really cry foul when the other entity involved stands up and puts their foot down. It had to happen eventually. they have to start protecting their intellectual property rights or else they're going to lose them due to precedents being set.
@lz: Hugo's point is that for NL to say that they aren't profiting from the website (that all funds go right back into server costs and whatnot) is the same as a LPer saying that all their funds go right back into better camera equipment or hiring a professional editor and whatnot. that said, we're already in regular contact with Nintendo, they know we're press and they regularly send out official images and updates for the press to use while working up articles. It's not really the same as a someone recording an entire playthrough of a game and posting it to YouTube in 47 parts, Nintendo isn't sending out that 47-part video to be posted anywhere.
Doesn't bother me at all — kinda makes sense if you think about it. If what you're doing is showing off long stretches of straight gameplay, something another person would have to shell out for an actual game in order to see, you may as well see some ads for the company who puts out said game(s) along with it. At least then the ads will be relevant to what you're watching, lol~
It could also be prompted by the sheer number of people hopping on to the 'Let's Play' train nowadays. if they allow people to use their content unprotested now and then try to take someone else to court for doing something similar on a much larger scale, there's probably a chance they'd lose due to having allowed it for so long without a problem.
hey guys, bottom line: this isn't the place to argue religious law, and we've already asked that the arguments not be made personal. we're discussing the article at hand, not one another, thanks!
I do love me some Adventure Time, and out of desperation for more story I picked up Hey Ice King! a week or three ago and i gotta say it's bored me to tears. i know it wasn't reviewed the greatest, but again, i was desperate for more AT goodness and kinda fooled myself into thinking maybe it wouldn't be that bad... yeesh. I'll need a lot more information about this upcoming one before i dive straight in :/
dammit, i'm slowly being persuaded to pick this up. i just hope it doesn't turn out to be boring like my experience with Wild World was after a while D:
@Intrepid: To add to Aviator's point, you do realize there are also religious groups who are okay with marrying homosexual couples, right? even some Christian ones? certainly not all religious groups are amenable to it, but each group already has its own set of taboos that must be respected by its own adherents, so it's not like that alone would be anything new.
@Bluezealand: if i'm reading correctly, Suicune seems to be using Pokemon to illustrate whitewashing — that you can't choose the race or skin tone of the avatar that is supposed to represent you in the game. That's where their comparison lies. I feel that neither situation is right, personally, but others will differ I guess.
@GameLord08: I take it you have some sort of problem with our tagline? If so, I'm sure the editorial team would love to hear from you via the Contact Form.
@Bass_X0: Capcom has made some other decisions lately that have pissed me off quite a bit. All I've said is that this move has made it easier for me to not bother with this purchase. again, i'm pretty sure it's no skin off anyone else's nose whether i get this game or not, you're free to buy as many consoles as you like so that you can buy as many copies as you like, so if you don't like my decision (made entirely for purposes and via reasoning of myself and not anyone else), deal with it.
@gavn64: 'overreacting' would be stomping around and attempting to rally a boycott over this. simply stating that i will not be making this purchase, though... it's my own choice, and it's no skin off anyone else's nose IMO.
@Jukilum: There's no way that claim can be backed up with any kind of evidence until the day when heterosexual and homosexual couples both are free to marry and care for children as they please — and even then it's going to have to be a day when people stop caring whether or not a child is raised by two moms, two dads, or a mom and a dad. until then, any kind of study is going to be rife with bias (either for or against the hypothesis) and therefore useless.
@PvtOttobot: Another offensive comparison — being born a certain way does not compare to liking violent games or being obsessed with the Sims. Come on :/
@DrMonk: I was waiting for someone to make that leap, actually — when we're saying 'bug' or 'glitch', we're not referring to the idea of homosexuals being 'glitches', we're referring to a problem with the game code itself. Nintendo's own rep referred to this issue as a 'bug' in the game; I really don't think they were making that sort of statement about homosexuals in general :/
@Mqblank: I don't have to live with it, though, by not buying it. Nintendo doesn't even have an account-based system for transferring purchased downloadable titles, for crying out loud, and such a potentially important addition to my gaming collection I'll want to have forever, not just for the life of my one console. Capcom didn't bring AAI2 to the west at all, so it's not like this won't be the only Ace Attorney game I don't own. :/
@Sun: I'm not sure what you're talking about...? You've lost me. This is clearly marked 'rumor', and as such we can't be sure of any official 'reasons' at this time. We know it's happening, we just don't officially know why. That's why this thread exists, and I'm just in here trying to keep people from going at one another hardcore the way the last thread went down :/
I was very much looking forward to having an actual physical cartridge (eventually) to join the rest of my PW lineup on its shelf. If this is a digital-only release, that's only going to make it easier for me to bypass it entirely, because Capcom's decisions over the past year or two have only served to tick me off more and more it seems :/
@PvtOttobot: I have removed nothing in plain opposition to the idea of same-sex marriages being included in this game, I have only removed absolutely offensive comparisons on your part.
@Sun: I said it could be a 'quick-fix' to block access to a potential hacker exploit. It'd certainly explain why they've worked so quickly to fix it when other glitches and bugs take months for them to even look at or acknowledge as honest problems. I'd be happy as heck to see them go back in and come up with an actual patch to make same-sex marriages a fully-programmed option, but if they're trying to fix a genuine bug in the code I can understand their decision, disappointing as it may be. If it does come westward without full-on support for same-sex relationships now that it knows for certain the interest is there, this won't be a title i'll be picking up :/
@C7_: i believe the last article stated a Nintendo rep had referred to it as a 'bug', that's why we're all calling it a glitch instead of an honest feature.
hey guys, there's a lot of assumption going on, and you know what that makes out of all of us — we don't know if it's straight-up homophobia that's prompted this move. again, it could be that there's a legit exploit somewhere in this glitch that they're having to patch before hackers fully explore its potential. can we please give the benefit of the doubt?
my guess would probably be that the glitch may have game-breaking potential since it wasn't actually programmed to be that way. I'm disappointed that they wouldn't go the extra step to make the glitch into an honest-to-goodness option for players, but i can see why they'd go ahead and make the quick-fix in order to stem the possibility of hackers finding an exploit via such a glitch :/
@sillygostly: If The Sims 2 hadn't been such a pile of crap on the DS, I might actually be interested, haha! Talk about a glitchy game that needed updating... D:
all right, all right, enough is enough, please — let's stop making this argument personal. we understand there are those who love the GTA series and want a Wii U iteration and those who don't for many reasons, but any further attacks on one another from either side (which are against our Rules...) may result in temp-bans. Let's keep our focus on the article at hand and not each other, please :3
what kind of 'votes' do they want? i'd be willing to shell out the $2 for it, but i'm not going to lie when it comes to recommending it to other people if it turns out i don't like it :/
@Intrepid: I'm glad that you've preserved those messages for yourself, but perhaps not for the same reasons you are: I genuinely hope that someday you can understand where he was coming from the entire time and perhaps empathize with his situation. Your mere 'opinion' is his entire life, after all. :/
I'd appreciate it if you stopped attempting to stir up the nest after-the-fact. It's gone. Let it lie.
@WhoBeThat: You mean your previous 20-some 'first' posts? The ones we don't allow at Nintendo Life anyway? I wonder who would be crazy enough to do that
@Jukilum: (a) it is entirely possible for same-sex couples to have biological children. In the case of male couples, it requires a surrogate mother, and in the case of female couples, it requires a sperm donor. There are also other considerations to be made when male-to-female and female-to-male trans-people are in the picture, of course.
(b) It's a game. it's meant to be fun for the player. i doubt it goes through all the grim details of pregnancy anyway, so whatever glossing-over they do for heterosexual couples, surely they could do that for homosexual couples if programming effort is to be kept to a minimum.
Also, I'm going to start handing down temporary bans for users who continue to refuse to listen to me in this thread and continue attempting to debate and tear each other down instead of focusing on the game and article at hand. Please stop, guys. I'm not going to ask again.
@Mr_Trill281: Your 'freedom of speech' ends where our Community Rules begin. You have already been e-mailed regarding that particular comment, please check your inbox for details.
@BlueZealand, @Arcamenel: Another user above brought up how having a male NPC hit on his own male character would probably be off-putting and a turn-off in terms of him enjoying this particular game, as it's apparently a glitch in the system and not specifically programmed to work that way (meaning there's no way to turn it off if it bothers you, either). I believe that may be what Midnight3DS is referring to in terms of being 'forewarned' if it's something that bothers you.
I really did enjoy Bookstore Dream, but this doesn't seem as much fun... i may wind up picking it up, but i've got other games to get through first, i guess. :3
@Einherjar: Believe me, I know how you feel. However, this isn't really the place to get into the 'why's and 'how's; i'm sure if you open your eyes and look around you'll see where hate comes from and how it spreads.
That said, this game was nowhere on my radar, and now i'm interested in seeing it come westward, same-sex relationships intact. :3
come on, guys, we're not here to pick fights with one another over this. if it's not your cup of tea, don't buy the game (or click the link to view the article, for that matter). if it really bothers you that much (or if you are truly in support of the idea of same-sex options featured in the games you play), contact Nintendo in your region and let them know exactly how you feel. :3
I don't really care either way. It's not like people (obviously) can't find these images online without having even shelled out for the DLC in the first place. If someone wants to see the original, there it is.
@Williaint: Rayman Legends as a launch-window title came from the Gamescom 2012 Rayman Legends trailer video — the same video that announced it as a Wii U exclusive also stated it would be available in December. It's a shame it's been delayed for so long, I know a lot of people who raced to pick up a Wii U just for that game.
hey guys, please stop sharing your anecdotes regarding piracy — we don't care what you've bought or what you've done in the past, just don't talk about it here is all. if we can keep this thread focused on the article at hand, we'd appreciate it. Thank you! :3
@ParSnake: I was/am not a fan of 999 at all, the descriptions of gore and grossness were an absolute turnoff for me and reading it all made me want to hurl. However, I love Hakuouki; i picked up the PSP version on a hunch because it sounded kinda interesting and am incredibly glad I did. I hope they put out a demo or something for people who might be on the fence or unsure if they'd enjoy the content or not.
@neumaus: daah, that's where they were at last time i checked — i watched straight through that first season and then it just stopped like right in the middle of the story, lol. i guess i'll wind up shelling out eventually if no one gets to steppin' re: putting it on Instant Streaming, heck, i think i saw Reimeiroku available on Hulu+ for pete's sake D: thanks for the offer, i've already got access though thanks to my husband's old CR account :3
omg i am soooooo excited for this!!!!! i thought we'd never get any of the rest of the Hakuoki game stuff here in the west! I picked up the main Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for PSP when that came out and was absolutely not disappointed... and now this! day-one purchase, holy crap~!

I don't really care either way. It's not like people (obviously) can't find these images online without having even shelled out for the DLC in the first place. If someone wants to see the original, there it is.
Re: Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned, Again, From the Wii U Games Drought
@Williaint: Rayman Legends as a launch-window title came from the Gamescom 2012 Rayman Legends trailer video — the same video that announced it as a Wii U exclusive also stated it would be available in December. It's a shame it's been delayed for so long, I know a lot of people who raced to pick up a Wii U just for that game.
Re: Review: Color Commando (DSiWare)
i'll be picking this up tonight
Re: Nintendo Issues Statement on Wii U Hacking Attempt
hey guys, please stop sharing your anecdotes regarding piracy — we don't care what you've bought or what you've done in the past, just don't talk about it here is all. if we can keep this thread focused on the article at hand, we'd appreciate it. Thank you! :3
Re: Aksys Games Announces Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi For 3DS
@ParSnake: I was/am not a fan of 999 at all, the descriptions of gore and grossness were an absolute turnoff for me and reading it all made me want to hurl. However, I love Hakuouki; i picked up the PSP version on a hunch because it sounded kinda interesting and am incredibly glad I did. I hope they put out a demo or something for people who might be on the fence or unsure if they'd enjoy the content or not.
Re: Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures Is Coming To Nintendo Platforms

Re: Aksys Games Announces Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi For 3DS
@neumaus: daah, that's where they were at last time i checked — i watched straight through that first season and then it just stopped like right in the middle of the story, lol. i guess i'll wind up shelling out eventually if no one gets to steppin' re: putting it on Instant Streaming, heck, i think i saw Reimeiroku available on Hulu+ for pete's sake D: thanks for the offer, i've already got access though thanks to my husband's old CR account :3
