Re: 3DS is Back on Top of the Japanese Charts

theblackdragon

@Waltz: Remember where you are... did you really expect everyone to be cheering Sony on? That said, I count maybe three somewhat extreme replies versus the Vita so far out of 50-some-odd so far where the rest are either open enough to not comment on Sony or the Vita specifically, or they're happy to see both the 3DS and Vita doing well together. That's pretty good for a straight Nintendo-based website I think. :/

Re: Updated Ace Attorney 5 Website Submits More Information

theblackdragon

@NortLightSuplx: The Ace Attorney series is very similar to Ghost Trick in terms of the dialogue and pacing, as well as getting the player involved in a great story, but the gameplay is very different. You're not solving puzzles and stuff so much as you are running around town talking to people and putting clues together, and then there are the courtroom 'battles' where you have to pick apart people's testimony. If you're interested in the Ace Attorney series at all, see if you can find a copy of the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for DS. It's a great place to start the series from, right at the beginning, and it's got one of the best DS-feature-using PW cases available to play (Rise from the Ashes), giving you a feel for what a 3/DS can potentially bring to the series. :3

Re: Legend Of Zelda Hacked To Make Zelda The Hero

theblackdragon

I'm tired of seeing fans doing this kind of thing. I'd rather see more officially produced games offering us the option of choosing/customizing our protagonist(s) and/or more strong female-oriented stories to play through. I am very pleased with the way Fire Emblem handled it, for example — I've been having a lot of fun with my female avatar and all the available support conversations. Please give me more reasons to throw money at you, game developers!

Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening's US Sales Are The Best In The History Of The Series

theblackdragon

@The_Fox: it looks like Gamestop finally has copies in for order online if you want to get it at retail price instead of whatever the vultures on Amazon and eBay are currently trying to sell it for, Wal-Mart seems to have it available for site-to-store (if you want local pickup), and it looks like Best Buy finally has it in stock again as well (again for local pickup if you don't want to pay shipping). definitely pick it up any way you can, my friend, it's a great game :3

Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening's US Sales Are The Best In The History Of The Series

theblackdragon

I'm sure that number would've been greater if there hadn't been a shortage of physical copies — i do hope they consider a second run, it'd probably sell out everywhere too. I bought two physical copies, one for my hubby and one for myself (we had been sharing the one physical copy, but i had been wanting more than one save file to myself and Wal-Mart had one copy in stock a couple weeks after it came out, so... :3)

Re: Pentagon To Review Controversial New "Nintendo" Medal

theblackdragon

@HeatBombastic: These sorts of medals aren't achievements to be unlocked, they're awards for service above and beyond the call of duty. No offense, but I think an officially-named 'Nintendo' medal would be a horrible idea, and if they did follow through with such a thing I'd think Nintendo would be well within their rights to sue to have it changed to something else. Nintendo has always gone out of their way to keep their public image in the realm of good family fun, not politics and the horrors of war. :/

Re: Pentagon To Review Controversial New "Nintendo" Medal

theblackdragon

I agree with Rafie — I know and have known many wounded and mentally traumatized veterans, and i think i would honestly be ashamed if I were a drone operator or someone behind a computer to be handed an award that carries more weight than the one another person was given for sacrifices they made on the ground. I'm not opposed to people being given medals, i couldn't care less what drone operators and pencil-pushers do to keep morale up in their ranks, but in no way do i feel their skill at flying these things or a decent idea that panned out nicely outweighs the courage and sacrifice of someone who was on the ground in the middle of a fight.

As for Nintendo being involved, I'm sure they're pretty annoyed to be brought into the middle of something they have absolutely no control over, but nicknames are nicknames, and it'll probably be around for a long time.

Re: Talking Point: Review Scores and Unwinnable Arguments

theblackdragon

like i said in the forum thread about this, a score is about as handy to me as a screenshot — a good score looks pretty, but only the text can explain for sure whether I'll like it — no perfect-scored dungeon crawler is going to do me any good, for example. Same for a poor score, the text will tell me what's going on i get around to giving the review the proper consideration (usually when i've got some spare time on my hands), and sometimes it's indeed the mindset of the reviewer that got in the way there, and it turns out i'll probably like the game very much. the score is an at-a-glance value that helps me figure out what games i'll probably like or not, and then the reviews (and forum impressions, and advice from friends) follow through to seal the deal, yea or nay.

Re: Interview: Wiggy Design On Breathing Life Into Old Systems

theblackdragon

hey guys, ToddGack is talking about the final paragraph of the article, which it seems some of you may have skipped. Damo has already addressed him about it, so if we can go back to the article at hand, that would be peachy. :3

also, i might be hitting him up for some Micro faceplates... the one i have is lame and scratched up

Re: Team Meat: We'd Work With Nintendo If Meat Boy Made It Into Smash Bros.

theblackdragon

Would I like to see them develop for the Wii U eShop? It might be nice, but I wouldn't be holding my breath for them to actually release anything, no matter how many announcements or news articles are put up. 'Fool me once, shame on you' and all that. :/

as for whether i think Meat Boy will show up in SSBU, I doubt it. he's not a Nintendo character, and furthermore he's never been featured on a Nintendo console, nor does Nintendo apparently have any kind of hold over the studio or the character (e.g. they had a hold on Sega, therefore Sonic was good to go).

Re: Feature: Series Reboots That Have Divided Gamers

theblackdragon

@3Dash: I don't really appreciate being labeled an 'idiot' just because the control scheme in KI:U did not work for me. I tried switching it up, I tried using the stand that came with the game. It cramped my hands something fierce no matter what I tried. I'm glad you (and clearly plenty of other people) enjoy the controls, but that's no reason to start namecalling just because some of us don't. :/

Re: PETA Starts "Whaling" About Assassin's Creed IV's Animal Cruelty

theblackdragon

I don't know how people are able to ignore how PETA's hands are as covered in animal blood as the animal-killers they despise. The wailing of these hypocrites as they scrabble for any sort of media relevancy they can grab is annoying. I only wish a more honest organization that doesn't kill defenseless animals sent to their "no-kill" shelters could step up and knock PETA off its pedestal.

Re: Review: Jeopardy! (Wii U)

theblackdragon

@baba_944: It plays off the old SNL 'Jeopardy' skits with Trebek vs. Connery. You can probably find them on YouTube by now, they're pretty hilarious :3

@Ras: I remember playing the old Jeopardy game for NES... even that one you had to type.

Re: Review: Wheel of Fortune (Wii U)

theblackdragon

@Chrono: He's already explained why he considers CoD shovelware, in his first comment no less — "New COD games are of the same quality, and are debatably shovelware since they're the same engine typically, with only a few new maps that fans could make and a short, short campaign. Probably took very little to make (although whenever the engine is updated.that takes more.)" Also, jumping in out of nowhere to say your definition of shovelware is something he 'obviously [wouldn't] understand' and telling him his 'ignorance blinds [him]' didn't really start you off on the non-arrogant foot. Please chill with the jabs at other users.

That said, if we could drop this argument and get back to the review and the game in question, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance, guys! :3

Re: Rhythm Hunter: HarmoKnight's US Price Is Revealed

theblackdragon

the only difference between this and a lower price point is that i'm more likely to wait for a review or other people's impressions of the game before picking it up. the price doesn't bother me, but I'll want to make absolutely sure that I'll enjoy this game before I buy it now. no big! :3

Re: Talking Point: The Slippery Slope of Micro-Transactions

theblackdragon

I don't mind DLC as long as it's brand new content, not just stuff being unlocked from the disc or cartridge i've already purchased. As for microtransactions, if StreetPass battles or WFC multiplayer is involved, as long as there's a reasonable way for me to acquire the same items or reasonable facsimiles in-game, again I don't mind — it needs to be feasible for the average player to be able to acquire the same things the paying player is able to in order to have a somewhat level playing field. At that point, it becomes a choice as to which you'd rather invest in your game — more money or some old-fashioned hard work.

Re: EA Plans For a Future With Micro-Transactions in All Games

theblackdragon

Guys, please, if you can't discuss the issues at hand without taking personal shots at each other, don't bother commenting until you can — and that goes for both sides of the discussion. If you've been insulted by another user here, report the comment and move on. If an insult magically disappears from someone's post, it's safe to assume that the comment was reported by someone and we've already taken care of the problem. Thanks in advance!

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Hey guys, we can only run contests with what we're provided, and when we say we can only award the prizes to people in certain areas, those are the areas to which we're restricted by the prize donors for whatever reason. We're sorry we aren't able to offer this particular competition to users in countries outside the UK. However, we appreciate you leaving constructive comments as opposed to complaints that it's not available for your region. Please take the opportunity to be graceful and wish your fellow eligible users well. Thanks in advance! :3

And as always, if you've entered on accident, don't worry — we have ways of determining where in the world you're coming from and we will ignore your entry accordingly, no big deal. :3
