I think everyone has taken advantage of the fact that TvC has been out on the Wii forever now. It makes answering with MvC3 almost a default answer for anyone who doesn't put any thought into their answers.
A fair question would be, if you could choose only 1 to be released on the Wii outside of Japan, what would it be, Wii-exclusive TvC2 or graphics/gameplay inferior multiplatform MvC3? As a multiplatform owner, I find variety to be the most satisfying. As a company, you wouldn't release both titles on the same platform in the same year due to one possibly cannibalizing the potential profits of the other.
So, if you could only have one, Wii-only Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2 or an inferior version of Marvel vs Capcom 3, which would it be? ...before you nonsensically interject, lets not kid ourselves, yes, it would be inferior unless they were programming with the lowest common denominator in mind, but then nobody would be happy with the results.
As a true fighting game enthusiast, it makes me sick to think of TvC not being released in place of a half-@$$ed version of MvC3 that most of you wouldn't buy anyways because it'd suck in comparison to the big console releases and you know what, you'd be complaining about Capcom then too.
How many of you bought Transformers: Cybertronian Adventures vs Transformers: War for Cybertron that had the choice? /rant
If it was a choice between TvC vs MvC3, I would choose TvC. The reason? We would likely not have seen TvC released in the West at all otherwise and chances are most people have a PS3 and/or a 360 in addition to a Wii.
What would've been the result of MvC3 on the Wii anyways? Everyone would be complaining it looked like crap instead.
Thank you Capcom for taking a risk and releasing what would've been a Japan only title here.
@edhe: That game never came out in the states as far as I know. Looking it up on youtube was my first exposure to it. Really, I don't see the connection and I feel it is unfair to compare it to EBA as it really doesn't appear to me to have anything in common besides touching the screen with your stylus.
Music Monstars seems much less like an EBA inspired game and much more like you're learning another instrument on the DS. What I'm trying to say is it looks freakin awesome, its unfair to it to compare it to EBA and I don't feel it is truly inspired by EBA. Its much more like those digital keyboards with the light up keys that teach you how to play music.
...In the article, it mentions a lot about having carts lying around the house, but does this device actually allow you to dump your own games to it or does it only allow you to put ROMS downloaded from the internet onto it? I'm no expert on DMCA, but I think the former is maybe alright, the latter, definitely illegal since you're technically not allowed to download someone else's "copy" of a game. This walks a fine line.
@akacesfan: Probably the same reason people play Nintendogs over getting a real dog, so they don't have to deal with the training, the poop, and whatever happens when you stick your dog in a storage container, forget about it and come back to check after... 5 years, 3 months and 3 days...a bad case of fleas.
I've heard varying reports about whether this is truly a stripped down port, so far the only thing I've noticed that was notably worse in the DSi version is the soundtrack. So, to anyone that has played both, riddle me this. If you could get the cartridge version for the exact same price as the DSi version, based on features, not of physical vs non-physical, which would you recommend? Nitro or Nitro-X? I am truly on the fence on this one and that information would be helpful.
It really is a shame that it won't be available for WiiWare, especially for those without the benefit of owning any of the other consoles. Here's hoping Telltale will find a way to bring it to those who want it.
I hope it won't affect the majority of you. Certainly won't stop me from getting the game. I guess I'll be getting it for PS3. I was hoping it'd be available for 360 cause there will be a possibility of avatar awards, but hey, I'd settle for a PS3 release over a no-console release anyday.
Now the only thing left that I'd wanna know pertains to the data on my current Wii and DSi. Can anyone ask Nintendo if they'll be transferrable to the anniversary units? I think that would matter to most people here that are considering purchasing these units. Thanks in advance.
I actually liked the game. It is indeed a difficult game with large emphasis on fast reflexes, enemy pattern recognition and well, its just learning the mechanics of the game, but once you "get it" ...oh boy, its amazing the stylish moves you'll be able to pull off.
This trailer shows off the cool moves you can pull off when you get a firmer understanding of the gameplay mechanics: [youtube:DokZUUal5IU]
Anyways, if you decide to get it, make sure you read the manual, you'll be utterly lost without it. Only word of warning though, if you are easily frustrated by losing and/or completely suck at unforgiving 8 and 16 bit era games, save yourself the 200 points and the frustration, this game really isn't made for you.
...I'd rather they not be released in the US since its doubtful NOA will allow content transfers from current DSi/Wii customers to those new units. There's no excuse to say those don't appeal to the die-hards/core audience. /selfishness
They'll most likely be released in the holidays, specifically as a special bundle available at retail locations on Black Friday through Christmas. At least, that's been the trend over the last many years I worked in video game retail, I'd be very surprised if they didn't release them.
What I believe will transpire at an upcoming brainstorming session at SEGA (long and completely ...fictional):
Suit #1: We need to do something big for Sonic's 20th anniversary. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Suit #2: We could do another cash-in compilation, fans seem to eat that stuff up for some stupid reason.
Suit #1: I don't know, I think we promised we wouldn't fill the shelves with the same old crap as before. We gotta come up with something new.
Market Analyst: Well sir, according to the internet most Sonic fans love the original 2D games and are mostly indifferent to the newer gimmicky 3D iterations. They are especially fond of aspects of the games such as the sense of speed when playing the games and as of the last decade, they've consistently been more and more disappointed at the state and direction of Sonic and his games.
Game Designer: I know what we can do, we can take the framework of the old 2D games, update them to 2.5D and give the graphics an overhaul, that'll surely please Sonic fans both old and new!
Suit #1: Okay, sounds good, do it. ...but I want you to go full 3D, make Sonic slow down if he grabs too many rings, add in a shop, so he can buy stuff like...vehicles or something, but don't make him too fast, he needs to be able to check out the sweet new surroundings we'll have programmed in with the extra graphics horsepower available to us...
Game Designer: ...but sir...
Suit #1: ...and lets give him a cape...and a laser sword that shoots, but no killing, have it...disable all the huge neon robots we'll be throwing his way...
Suit #2: ...and lets give him a night-vision mode, he'll wear...a special eyepatch, we can have every other stage be stealth action with an emphasis on stealth
Market Analyst: I don't think the fans...
Suit #1: ..but lets make it turn based, so it doesn't frustrate our younger players, as you know, they're our real audience...
Suit #2: ...you're right, while you're at it, lets set it on easy too and remove medium and hard difficulties...and lets set it in the real world, I want photo realism and lets have some place densely populated with a lot of twists and turns...like...San Franci...
Suit #1: ...but remember, the key is to have him fighting robots everywhere, easy robots, waves and waves of them.
Suit #2: That's absolutely brilliant, it'll sell billions of copies. How many skus do we have currently on store shelves?
Suit #1: Hmm, about 2 dozen.
Suit #2: We released 2 dozen Sonic titles in 1 year!? Hmm, that's not good, it'll get lost in all those titles. How many of those have a Metacritic score of 70+?
Suit #1: None.
Suit #2: Okay, have them all pulled and get to work on buying scores for our next 30 upcoming Sonic titles. We have to improve Sonic's reputation. Set up a press release, give them the old, "We've listened to our valued fans and we present you with the next generation in Sonic, "Sonic _____" blah blah blah...
Marketing: Already on it sir, I'll fill in the template and send it out to the press immediately.
Suit #1: This will be the best Sonic month yet!
Suit #2: You're absolutely brilliant sir.
Suit #1: That's why I get paid the big bucks. That reminds me, cut out half the game, we can sell it to our fans later as DLC.
SEGA plan of action (2010-2012): Step I: Make space by removing older, mediocre, reduced priced, value Sonic software currently flooding store shelves Step II: Release newer and quite possibly still mediocre (hope for the best), fully priced Sonic releases to fill space made by removing garbage. Step III: When shelves are full again, repeat Step I and II until people stop buying Sonic games and we are faced with going out of business. Step IV: Adopt Domino's Pizza's self-depreciating ad campaign and hope for the best, repeat Step I if we survive.
...This would be an awesome game to have on DSi, but I think it'd be waaay better if it were a side scrolling beat-em up rather than an arena fighter. I couldn't imagine playing this game much, but I also don't do things that generally cause me to wait in an area for an extended period of time (movies, conventions, DMV, etc).
@Objection_Blaster: If they are released for the US launch, I will be purchasing Zelda, Professor Layton, Ridge Racer, Samurai Warriors, and Street Fighter. With the 3DS, on the other hand, I may wait since there hasn't been news yet, that I know of, about 3DS games being transferrable to future iterations of that platform.
I'd still buy this version if its from a development team experienced in 2D gameplay like Treasure, Griptonite or Gameloft. ...haha, just kidding about that last one. =)
I dunno, I don't think there are reprints. I've visited Toys R Us on an almost weekly basis for the last 6-8 months and I've seen these games available on their shelves for as long as I can remember. Its just that no one buys them. I already have all of them. This may be just existing stock and they are just advertising to coincide with the Mario 25th anniversary.
Did it just get cold in here? Anyways, Wayforward, you'll get my points when the game gets released. Everyone, start setting your ridiculously high expectations bar lower peoples.
I'll wait for the review before deciding if I'll get this, I'd definitely get it if it was a sequel to Konami's Krazy Racers.
@pixelman: I'm pretty sure I see shadows under the cars in the pictures, so unless you're talking about something else...?
@GotWii: Ironically, pixelman developed a game, so there goes part of your argument. As for the other part, everyone knows the last thing you do with a game is feed them polishes. I prefer Costco polishes, they're cheap and tasty. =9
Definitely seems like something is missing without the 25. Here's hoping that when it is included, it'll be in the same 8 bit style as SMB. Also..., do patents need to be in B&W? ...I hope its not final, I think the logo would look much better in a metallic gold color.
Looks like a reskinned Lego Rock Band already released for the DS. I guess the music selection must be different... hopefully it is a bigger selection though, LRB got old real fast without the ability to download new songs.
I remember seeing that for the first time from the E3 videos! ...apparently, its not okay to shake the baby... that proved difficult for attendees and probably would be difficult for me as well... it'd just be too tempting not to try.
Wow, I'm glad I waited on purchasing this. I originally saw the trailer and thought, "eh, it looks kinda fun." I'm almost never wrong when it comes to buying things that appeal to my personal tastes, but I'd never have been off by this big of a degree. Thanks for saving me money on a terrible purchase.
JK is responsible for Nintendo losing money!? Burn him at the stake! Oh, wait..., nevermind, I have to read more carefully instead of just the title and picture.
I never played the game myself, but this is good news for those that have been waiting for the sequel. Hopefully it comes out here in NA too for the fans that are eagerly awaiting the sequel.
Yea, I guess, as long as they don't screw it up or they could just let Mistwalker make it or how about those kids that worked on that reimagining a few years back that SE sent a C&D to, that looked pretty promising.
@EdEN: I already have both Game and Watch Collection games from Club Nintendo along with Grill Off w/Ultra Hand and Doc Louis's Punch Out. Out of the current ones, I dunno if the Hanafuda cards or Mario/Zelda posters are worth getting. I prefer redeeming coins for games when possible.
I don't know about games because I haven't registered any new ones since the program started for the US, but I know US surveys expire as I see a ton of them begin to expire on my account beginning 2012. I'm going to hit Platinum status again later today when I take the time to fill out all my incomplete surveys. I just hope there are good things released between now and next year that I can spend 1400+ coins on.
I feel kinda stupid for not understanding what is so spectacularly awesome about this shirt. Don't get me wrong, I loved my SNES and it has a library of some of the best games ever, but this is just a shirt with a diagram on the back. I don't get why the posters above me and some below me find it so awesome.
A Slutry Midnight Blue DSi XL, I like. Sexy black border too, thanks for the alternate pic irken004. Too bad I just bought my distant future mother-iin-law a burgundy XL. Now, if only they'd take care of that transfer solution, I'd definitely hit up a retailer on its release to get one for myself.
Man..., please don't have a time-travelling DeLorean in the game, it would become a must buy in that case and I don't even know enough about the game to know if it'd be good or not. Stupid nostalgia.
...all they would need to do is ask all attendees of this year's E3 to bring their portables, get someone from Guinness there and bam, record crushed, would it even need to be the same handheld to be considered the largest game console party?
@Raylax: Your comment reminded me of the guy that got shot with a record number of paintballs only to find out it doesn't stand because there wasn't an official there to witness it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QcQU5yYuCU

Re: Lust After this New Monster Hunter 3 Longsword
I don't own MH3. From the front page, I thought it was a neat lookin stylus. =D
Re: These Domo-Kun Photos May be Too Cute for Human Eyes
The most recent gaming ones are the best of his work.
Oh, and this too.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent for Wii Hard Drive
I know they've used these at a few hospital locations I've volunteered at in the past.
Re: Your Club Nintendo PINs Will Self-Destruct in Five Years, Australia
@EdEN: I already have both Game and Watch Collection games from Club Nintendo along with Grill Off w/Ultra Hand and Doc Louis's Punch Out. Out of the current ones, I dunno if the Hanafuda cards or Mario/Zelda posters are worth getting. I prefer redeeming coins for games when possible.
Re: Your Club Nintendo PINs Will Self-Destruct in Five Years, Australia
I don't know about games because I haven't registered any new ones since the program started for the US, but I know US surveys expire as I see a ton of them begin to expire on my account beginning 2012. I'm going to hit Platinum status again later today when I take the time to fill out all my incomplete surveys. I just hope there are good things released between now and next year that I can spend 1400+ coins on.
Re: Brace Yourself for the Best Super Famicom T-Shirt You'll See Today
I feel kinda stupid for not understanding what is so spectacularly awesome about this shirt. Don't get me wrong, I loved my SNES and it has a library of some of the best games ever, but this is just a shirt with a diagram on the back. I don't get why the posters above me and some below me find it so awesome.
Re: Review: Maestro! Green Groove (DSiWare)
Fun game. Keep 'em coming Neko!
Re: Get Your DSi XL in Sultry Midnight Blue, North America
A Slutry Midnight Blue DSi XL, I like. Sexy black border too, thanks for the alternate pic irken004. Too bad I just bought my distant future mother-iin-law a burgundy XL. Now, if only they'd take care of that transfer solution, I'd definitely hit up a retailer on its release to get one for myself.
Re: Rare Confirms It is Not Working on Activision's Rumoured GoldenEye Game
Bungie's new project, multiplatform GoldenEye...nah.
Re: Retro City Rampage to Cause Havoc on WiiWare This Fall
Man..., please don't have a time-travelling DeLorean in the game, it would become a must buy in that case and I don't even know enough about the game to know if it'd be good or not. Stupid nostalgia.
Re: 586 People Playing DS Earns Them a World Record
...all they would need to do is ask all attendees of this year's E3 to bring their portables, get someone from Guinness there and bam, record crushed, would it even need to be the same handheld to be considered the largest game console party?
@Raylax: Your comment reminded me of the guy that got shot with a record number of paintballs only to find out it doesn't stand because there wasn't an official there to witness it.
