Re: Nintendo UK Reconfirms GBA Ambassador Games for This Month

sykotek

Japan's end of fiscal year 2011 or 2011-nendo is on March 31, 2012. Obviously, the original statement with intent to "release by the end of the year" was mistranslated from Japanese to English. Also painfully obvious are the various Nintendo Western Representatives that are quoting from the date from the original mistranslation.

We will be receiving these games by April 1, 2012. That is all.

Re: Review: Frogger 3D (3DS)

sykotek

Ha, funny that PSone Frogger is being mentioned. I've never played it, but have a funny story.

Many years back, I had a chance encounter with a representative from Konami. He was stating how happy they were to be getting back control of the Frogger franchise. He seemed genuinely excited in restoring the magic to Frogger and spoke of the lack of vision of previous license holders (Hasbro/PSone titles).

He spoke with such passion about the project that even I wanted to see a new awesome Frogger game. ...then Konami proceeds to release almost nothing except crappy Frogger games for the next decade.

Passion alone does not a good game make.

Re: Review: Thor: God of Thunder (3DS)

sykotek

I preordered this and was waiting for it since before Thor was out in theaters. A few weeks back, I was at the store ready to pick it up when I decided to ask to look at the back of the box. It was then that I realized it wasn't developed by WayForward and got a refund instead.

Re: Doodle Fit is Coming to DSiWare

sykotek

I downloaded this game on my phone when it was offered for free a while back.

It's actually pretty challenging. One thing that I didn't immediately understand the first time I saw screenshots is that you can't rotate any of the game pieces.

You need to organize the pieces to fill all the gaps. There's more than one solution per puzzle, so it's not that difficult, but it's still challenging. Not a bad game, definitely worth checking out if it's on the cheaper end of pricing.

Re: Extend 3DS Battery Life with CTA's Deluxe Power Grip

sykotek

@tendoboy1984: No, this product doesn't appear to void the warranty. You're not likely to void the 3DS warranty unless you're removing the original battery or accessing the innards of your 3DS in some way. This appears to be a clip on attachment.

As for CTA making terrible, useless stuff, excuse me if I don't take your word for it since:
a) This product obviously has a use, it both charges and offers an ergonomic way for you to hold the 3DS.
b) As for build quality, this product is on order and won't ship for another 2-4 weeks, so I doubt you have one to properly judge.
c) Having a reputation is not the same as having a good reputation. Something which few 3rd party peripheral companies have. Additionally, having worked in gaming retail, among many gamers, MadCatz, is certainly not one of those companies with a good reputation.

I don't know much about this product besides what I've seen in the video, but I reserve judgment for when it's released. I know it's hard, but please refrain from attempting to pass off your opinions as solid facts.

Re: Extend 3DS Battery Life with CTA's Deluxe Power Grip

sykotek

It extends the battery without voiding the warranty? I'll probably get one. I've had my eyes on the Nyko Shock 'n Rock, but it's priced at $39.99 and worse yet, it's nowhere to be found.

I like that CTA is integrating a grip so you can hold the 3DS easier. I use dpad for Street Fighter, so I feel it's a good addition in my opinion. Also, it'll likely cut down on hand cramps I've been experiencing since launch.

Either way, I'm more likely to buy this attachment vs. the circle pad attachment. Nintendo will just come out with a 3DS redesign that integrates the circle pad in the future if it's really integral to games. I'm not shilling more money to add an optional circle pad...at least with CTA's product I'll be able to play my games for longer or watch Netflix or what have you.

Edit: Price is $29.99, you can order it from Amazon here. Only bad thing is that it can take up to a month which gives me plenty of time to choose between this or the Shock 'n Rock...hmm...

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life's eShop Appearance

sykotek

Already own all those games and it's just my opinion, but there are definitely more deserving titles (like Digger Dan) that belong on that list. I find it hard to believe that, even if relabeled as NintendoLife Staff Picks, the inclusion of some of those titles don't make sense compared to the rest of the eShop library.

Again, my opinion, but it hurts the credibility of the list to have some of those listed titles as absolute favorites, and chosen by a panel!

Maybe consider opening it up to vetted community members if given an opportunity again to revise this list in the future.

Re: Kirby Delivers Ice Cold Snacks to US Cities

sykotek

I agree that these events should be taking place in more than just a few cities. Unfortunately, they're not. Potential turnout likely has something to do with it, especially with possible media coverage.

For the sake of those wondering why events are taking place in the above mentioned cities...besides being major metropolitan areas,

NYC has Nintendo World Store, 1/2 Nintendo stores in America
SF can be argued as the port of gaming in America
Houston has a place named Kirby

Okay, that last one is kind of a lame and not necessarily major metropolitan, but it's not the first time they launched a Kirby game from a place named Kirby...at least this time they're treats instead of flying bubbles.

Re: Dragon Quest X Requires Online Connection

sykotek

@armoredghor: I just call it like I see it. After I saw the video provided... THAT game looks like ABSOLUTE TRASH in my opinion.

I'm not buying it regardless of whether there is a subscription fee attached to it or not.

Sure it's their intellectual property and they can do as they choose, but does it fit with what I understand to be Dragon Quest, especially part of the main series? Hell no.

Does it seem to me, a person who has had every DQ iteration released in the states, a person who has drove a hundred of miles to join other DQIX gamers at meet up events, and a long time purchaser of the franchise, like it's a change for the better. Hell No.

Will I try to stop you from spending your money on it if it gets released here. HELL NO. Go ahead, you can burn your money for all I care, but our opinions are just as valid as yours...and as a dedicated fan up to this point, I'd wager much more valuable than your "well, if you didn't make it, shut up" post.

Re: Dragon Quest X Requires Online Connection

sykotek

Well, I'm out if subscription is confirmed for the US. I'm not about to change my almost decade old "Subscription fee? F*** YOU then Square Enix!" rule which I started for XI.

Edit: Just watched the video, game looks like S***, I'm out. That's not DQ, thanks for ruining it.

Re: Intrinsic Pushes Amoebattle Back to 2012

sykotek

I came here to post exactly what @Corbs said. May as well develop for 3DSWare if you're pushing it back, no point in continuing development on DSiWare unless you're putting it out sometime this year. DSi's install base is falling, 3DS's install base is growing. I won't be buying anymore 3rd party DSiWare after this year save for Flipper 2 if that is released on DSiWare. I'm sick of playing the DSi juggling game, it's not worth it...unless it's Flipper 2.

@slidecage: Currently maybe, that will likely change during the holidays this year. I'm sure Nintendo has the actual number of people logging onto the DSiWare shop vs eShop every week. I'd imagine less and less people are going on DSiWare with every passing week.

Re: Tetris: Axis Swings By 3DS on 2nd October

sykotek

Hudson? ...uh oh. If it's like their last release on DS, you won't be allowed to erase your high scores (yea, that same 3DS issue again). I had to end up buying my girlfriend a new copy of the game on DS when I accidentally dominated the scoreboard the first time I played.

"This game would have been a buy....
if it came out a year ago before the 3DS"
-LordJumpMad

The 3 year anniversary of this game's US retail release is tomorrow (originally released: 8/25/2008)! I remember being one of the only people to pre-order it at my local GameStop at the time. It got a slightly wider release later, but no hype at all. You can probably still find it in bargain bins at big box retailers across the US.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Fan Influence Should Game Studios Allow?

sykotek

I know a very simple solution for Mega Man Legends 3 and the Operation Rainfall games issues. Ready? Just have customers preorder the titles online, paid in full, upfront and direct to Nintendo and Capcom. You can call it the Ambassador Edition, add a shiny cover and toss their names into the credits (who wouldn't think that's cool?).

They want solid sales numbers, done, those are guaranteed sales...also, they can get more profit by cutting out traditional retailers. Lastly, if it sells well through this method, they can print it for the mass market as well, so no one gets left out...

This will fail only if the demand for these titles aren't as great as the vocal fans on the internet makes them seem. ...but what if you don't have the money? Then you don't count. How else would you buy it in the critical period in retail anyways?

Re: Talking Point: The Great Nintendo 3DS Price Drop Debate

sykotek

At retail, all they have left to do is drop the price of their software from $39.99 to $29.99 and despite the enthusiasm of hardcore Sony fans, it'll be very tough for Sony Vita to gain a foothold in the actual market after that...(unless it's pirate friendly), it's all uphill for Vita after that. On the eShop front, they need to release more games, their drip drop method of game distribution needs to go away.

Re: Review: Go! Go! Kokopolo (DSiWare)

I'll be buying this day one. Gameplay looks great. I don't like that the cat looks mean spirited mostly though when he's running about, but I suppose that's just my personal preference.

Re: Walmart Already Selling 3DS for $169.99, But Be Quick

sykotek

I understand the folks getting bent outta shape about this, but the fact of the matter is, I don't see the majority of the general population knowing about this deal. Besides, if the 20 free games AND a price drop of the 3DS get people that were on the fence to buy the 3DS, that can only be good for the future of the 3DS, right?

That means, future games will be released for it which is good for all of us who already own it. Please stop being so salty towards the select few that will be able to get 20 free games AND a cheaper 3DS and encourage your fellow gamers to jump in on this limited time offer.

Re: Renegade Kid Shopping ATV Wild Ride 3D to Publishers

sykotek

It took me FOREVER to find the first one. Even now, the only place I've seen that carries ATV Wild Ride in stores is at Toys R Us, but even then, it's mixed in with all the other bargain bin DS games and that's not a good thing for exposure of a new title IMO.

Seriously, if you're reading this, Renegade Kid, please consider releasing it digitally on 3DSWare instead. You'll likely sell more and thus make much more that way. I mean, I'll buy it regardless because I'm a fan, but if you're trying to make money, a $39.99 3DS cart release following a bargain bin $19.99 DS game is not the way to go.

Re: 3DS Drops to $169.99 from 12th August

sykotek

@Tasuki: It'll work, places would rather give you the difference you deserve than take back opened product they'd need to discount further to sell...and besides, it's within return policy, they have to honor it...unless they're idiots.

@tealovertoma: You could probably get away with just bringing in your receipt to most places for a return/rebuy. Be sure to call ahead on the day of the price drop.

Re: 3DS Drops to $169.99 from 12th August

sykotek

@NetrackSteven64: Couldn't someone that is on the fence about buying the Nintendo 3DS get both deals by buying it from a retailer a few days before, logging online and then when the price drops, go back to the retailer they bought it from and receive the difference?

The answer is: Yep, they sure can.

Now all Nintendo needs to do is drop the price of the software to $29.99 and it'll be set.
