yet another video games developer goes under- i do worry about some of the other companies, who could be in danger of or may go out of the gaming business altogether; i.e. SEGA for example.
but this is sad to see. i think their best work was during the 80s- mid 90s with bomberman, adventure island, bonk, whilst the bloody roar games weren't too bad.
add characters from lesser known nintendo games and franchises and maybe 1 or 2 more 3rd party characters, as well as option to play as your mii, and you're set.
thank you nintendo of europe!! prince of persia is one of the best games ever. hopefully with more people downloading it, it will help persuade nintendo to put out more and more games on the V.C service.
the last 6 months of last year were much better than the first 6 months for nintendo. sales of the 3ds picked up, with the price drop and more high profiled titles released. in all, glad that nintendo pulled it off in the end.
this year will be a massive one for them and us fans, but hopefully, it'll be worth it.
well when you consider that the wii was heavily marketed and targeted to non-gamers, compared to the PS3 and x-box, it's not that a huge surprise to see just dance, zumba games coming top.
skyward sword was still a great game- i enjoyed it.
i think when we meant actual gaming IPs, we want another platform, adventure type game along the lines of mario, zelda, metroid, kirby etc, rather than something like the casual wii sports, nintendogs.
i hope it is a new franchise with new characters. the last original I.P nintendo made was pikmin for the gamecube and i think the wii U needs a new mascot to usher in the next 6 years.
@WaveBoy even though Sega returning to the hardware market is wishful thinking, i'd think the same. even though some of their releases for the wii especially haven't been great, they were a good rival during the genesis/SNES days.
and i too would pick those SEGA games over halo, little big planet, gears of war, skyrim etc.
i think that as long as 3rd parties keep bringing out the quality games for the wii U, nintendo will be fine. they and us need to not worry or focus too much on what microsoft and sony do.
the media and other people will say nintendo are doomed but they proved with the wii, 3ds and DS sales, they are still alive.
@James well as long as more of the quality games keep coming for the 3DS, it'll have a great 2012. and don't forget, we're going to expect even more surprises for the console in terms of games in this year's E3.
looking forward to all of these- it looks as if this will be a great year for the 3DS and its owners.
you also left out tekken 3d. that looks like it is going to be the best fighting game on the console or has the potential to be the best 3DS fighting game.
good to see skyward sword doing ever so well. i wonder what the other 41 wii games that reached a million copies being sold are. super mario galaxy 2, twilight princess, smash bros brawl, just dance are 4 i could name already.
@YashaTheSlayer re: yet they still release games in Japan, and not here?
this. and it's unfair.
@grumblebuzz re: The Wii in general is on its way out so it only makes sense that Nintendo would wind down and scale back their digital support of it and focus on the 3DS.
there are probably more owners of a wii than there are of a 3DS worldwide, and there are those who still want to play classics from older sega and nintendo consoles, as well as SNK's neo geo and turbo-grafix.
for months, there have been no wii V.C games released in the west, yet obscure, shovel-ware titles are being pushed onto the wiiware and that the 3ds V.C has got a lot more attention.
i think 2011 will be seen as a good year for 3DS owners and an encouraging start that the 3DS has made, but insofar as the wii is concerned it was a bit of a hit and miss affair.
nothing for the first 6 months or so, but the releases of kirby's return to dreamland, LoZ skyward sword and xenoblade showed the wii still has life yet.
2012 will be different- more 3ds games, hopefully a few more wii titles and the launch of the wii U. this is where nintendo is expected to shine and deliver both in the hardware, software and 3rd party support for the 3ds and wii U. for that, i believe this year will be a much better one for us nintendo fans than it has been in 2011.
this place has become to be my favourite nintendo fan site.
2012 is going to be a huge year for nintendo and for us fans- wii U release and games, more 3ds games and hopefully, nintendo acknowledging metroid's 30th anniversary in august this year.
bad move on SEGA's part. but if rhythm thief turns out to be a great game and SEGA continue releasing games for the 3DS, as well as the wii U, i'd forgive them for their mistakes and errors.
i'm thinking with this app store it will have the virtual console (hopefully), wii U ware, as well as full facebook, twitter integration and perhaps you can link your 3DS to it and other apps.
as for the friend codes thing, it would be better without it.
@Koops3 re: Sonic Rush was the 9th best selling DS game in 2006 (Lets not forget 2006 was a great year for the DS) >> i didn't know that title sold well for the DS.
the sonic games haven't really sold well on nintendo consoles, for the exception of sonic colours and perhaps sonic generations.
as long as they release more quality and interesting sega games for the 3ds, wii U, i won't have many qualms. besides, rhythm thief is coming out next year and it looks like it'll be worth the wait.
i used to play this on the gameboy for hours all those years ago. it is still one of my favourite games, ever, as well as my favourite puzzle game ever.
@12. aye! i love wayforward's style. very much reminds me of the 90's style video games from way back then. plus, of course they made the excellent aliens infestation for the DS.
if they are going to release it after summer, then that's ok with me.
the key thing isn't really the date but the pricing and the launch line-up; if nintendo get it right, it wouldn't concern me at all that it is out in say november, december.
i think what nintendo did was great- the idea of giving away free games not only was a great ploy to get more people playing them, but the fact they were free meant that for once, money was no issue. nintendo were not charging people to download these games.
can you name any other hardware company today who've done the same thing today? or can you imagine any other company doing what nintendo have done and repaid their fans and customers, who have shown loyalty to their brand over the years by giving away free games? many would doubt it.
it would be great if this ambassador scheme carried over to the wii U as well. anything like this that will propel sales is always a good thing.
the only side issue i have, is the wii virtual console, which really needs updating and new retro titles added. but other than that, i don't have many qualms with nintendo.
at first glance, it looks like a shovelware game but after seeing some of the gameplay, it doesn't too bad. reminds me of those shooting target games. hope we get a review of this one.

as long as nintendo produce and release more games for the wii U and 3DS, i'd be happy to wait.
Re: Wii U Panorama View Demo is Awesome
@52. that's what sets nintendo apart from their competitors. they put gameplay and innovation first before graphics.

apparently, these figures will be released in the west this year:

if they are not too expensive, i'd pick up the varia suit one.
Re: Rumour: Wii U and 3DS to Get E-Reader Capabilities

Re: Disney Newsletter Accidentally Outs Epic Mickey 2
like the others have pointed, if they sort out the flaws and make a game that is twice as better than the last one, it should be worth getting.
nice to know also that it is coming out for the wii as well, what with the release of the wii U and the increase in 3ds titles lined up next year.

Re: Review: Metroid Fusion (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy Advance)
i know some have said this is too linear for a game, but i like it like this.
a fantastic title that deserves a sequel on the 3DS or wii U.
Re: Nintendo Narrows Wii U Release Date Window
if they are going to release it after summer, then that's ok with me.
the key thing isn't really the date but the pricing and the launch line-up; if nintendo get it right, it wouldn't concern me at all that it is out in say november, december.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo to Show Off Wii U at CES in January
@9 i don't want them to rush things either but i also want to make sure the line-up is strong enough, the 3DS line-up was quite lackluster.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo to Show Off Wii U at CES in January
although the final unveiling isn't until the big one at E3 in the summer, i think the earlier this is out in the open, the better.
also, if the pricing is right for this console, then i'd expect it to sell well.
it would be nice to see the games that already destined for the wii U to be shown too, as well as other surprises they might have up their sleeve.
looking forward to this.
