Rumours of a sequel to Disney Epic Mickey continue to swirl around the Internet like paint in a pot, with a Disney newsletter seemingly outing the game before its official announcement.
The email mentions a brand new Epic Mickey 2 in development for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a release set for fall 2012:
Disney Epic Mickey 2 is the latest game in the critically acclaimed Disney Epic Mickey videogame series. In this all-new action-platforming game available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii, Mickey embarks on an epic journey and is pulled back into a world filled with Disney’s forgotten characters. Players can choose to play single-player as Mickey or for the first time players can also choose 2-player split screen mode. In the 2 player mode one person can play as Mickey wielding magic paint and paint thinner to dynamically change the world and the second player can play as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit – Walt Disney’s first cartoon star – with the power to fly like a helicopter and use electricity to fight or friend enemies and solve challenges. Team-up and choose your path to save this forgotten world because the choices you make will alter the story and change the end of the game!
Disney, the mouse is definitely out of the bag on this one.

Epic Mickey has been in the bargain bin, like 67 percent off, since three months after its release. Sound business decision to release a sequel.
yeah I haven't bought it yet...
hope the developers fix the camera issues this time around..
I hope they sort the camera out for Epic Mickey 2. I wanted to like Epic Micke but there were far too many flaws in the game. Still had some cracking moments though.
Can't wait.
Ill be sure to pick it up, but I would prefer more TRON games...
Interesting to see it on 360 and PS3. Wonder if the original might see a download release on those 2 platforms...
I loved the first game, so the sequel should be great. Let's hope the camera is better the second time around.
If I get this, I better not find a random glitch in the first half hour of the game again.
If they fix the camera in the sequel, it will be fantastic. That was really all that was wrong with the first one.
The first one was great, so hopefully the sequel will be just as good if not better. I'm interested in how they handle the PS3/360 versions.
like the others have pointed, if they sort out the flaws and make a game that is twice as better than the last one, it should be worth getting.
nice to know also that it is coming out for the wii as well, what with the release of the wii U and the increase in 3ds titles lined up next year.
Electricity powers?
Epic Mickey wasn't the different and unique gaming experience I was hoping for. Will the Junction Point team end up making a samey sequel, or will they create the epic game it should have been? I wouldn't expect much this time, not after hearing it's going multi-platform.
As long as they fix the camera (only problem with the first one, IMO), I'll pick it up day 1.
@Burning_Spear I've never seen EM in bargain bins. Also, I think I read somewhere that EM sold 2 million copies.
Sweet, I'm due to rent EM1 from Gamefly shortly.
It's funny how everyone complains about the camera in this game, I only recall having issues with it in the Jungle one or another time.
What really bugged me were the slightly messed up platforming physics, the travel system and some issues in combat, like the lock-on system and the massive hitstun you'd receive when getting hit.
Epic Mickey was an awesome game. I haven't seen it in bargain bins either. Although they did drop the price to 29.99. It was awesome, I just had a hard time getting past some parts in the game.
The first one was meh, bad platforming, underwhelming scenarios and an awful camera, not to say a mediocre combat system. It failed to live to its potential, lets hope this ones improves in all those aspects.
It's gonna be like De Blob. The first was out on wii then the sequel was on all the other platforms and did not sell as well as the first game.
Yes! This is gonna be awesome!
So no 3DS version?
Epic Mickey is the worst 3D platformer I ever played, I'll probably skip this.
Camera was awful IMO. Really spoiled the game.
I Hope That They Make Epic Mickey 2 For The Wii Classic Controller Compatible As This Will Make The Game Much More Fun, But Easier To Control Mickey.

Ew, no thanks.
I loved the first one, and it was one of my favourite Wii games of all-time. i didn't even notice the camera issues, to be honest. A sequel would be SUPER-EPICLY-AMAZING-TOTALLY-AWESOME-TERRIFICALLY-GREAT!!!!!
@Scissors: I've played worse. X-Men Destiny for example.
This game was a nostalgic dream for me, I just hope the sequel is a bit more immersive (there's more to adventure games than simple fetch quests). Also, more well known obscure characters would be nice. Seeing mostly generic NPCs with different names is a bit dull.
I'm not holding my breath. I would be willing to bet it will actually come on WiiU, not Wii.
If it was Out For 2012, Then i would buy it. I Hope That It will be in Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360. Why not the 3ds version?
They'd have to improve this a massive amount from the original for me to even consider trying it.
I reallly think if they learned from the flaws from the first it could be a AAA game!
Even with it's flaws, the first Epic Mickey was a good game. It had a lot of potential but ultimately couldn't live up to the massive hype. I think that this new game will address the issues that plagued the first one and hopefully it will deliver the "epic" experience that we were promised before. I also think that this one will be successful now that it will be available on all platforms. Hopefully, we will see it show up on the Wii U.
In my opinion, Epic Mickey was one of the Wii's most bitterly disappointing titles, and I'm the biggest Disney fanboy I know. It had a great concept, but the execution was between poor and mediocre. It just failed to live up to its potential. That said, if the sequel improves the original game by a huge margin I may give it a rental.
I'm like Wolf, the game just got far too hyped up to ever live up to it. Camera needed work and the physics could have used a little tweaking too. I'll hold out hope that Epic Mickey 2 fixes these problems, otherwise I'll likely pass on the sequel.
Great news, I was a huge fan of the first Epic Mickey despite its flaws. I really think that EM2 should release on the Wii U rather than the Wii. Otherwise i'll grab the ps3 version (hopefully with move support)
It will probably end up on Wii u, or it will be released on both (Wii and Wii u)!
As a Disney fan, Epic Mickey was a dream come true for me. Knowing the history behind Oswald and having Mickey Mouse and Oswald come together in-game was simply brilliant. Add to it the dark mood, atmosphere and creative gameplay gimmicks and this is one of my favorite games on the Wii.
Recently seeing Epic Mickey added into so many exhibits in Disney World has had me simply awaiting this games announcement. When there have been so many game's based on Disney lore, Epic Mickey is the one that is found added into their presentation halls; so a sequel was inevitable.
I'm really glad the game's getting a sequel, I just hope its basically the same [good] game on all platforms seeing how the Wii tends to get the short end of the stick in most multiplatform situations.
Coming out that late and it'll be on vanilla Wii? That seems to be a pretty big waste to ignore the Wii U.
Epic Mickey's one of the many games that floods my closet and just eagerly waits to be played.
What sounds promising here is the 2-player mode. If Mario doesn't want to make it a new standard in 3D platforming, why not Micky then ?
And i hope DIsney is also aware about how well a new 2D Mickey game could sell. I mean look at the amazingness that are NSMBWii's sales numbers...
I'd gladly take releases / a collection of your great 16-bit games as well, Disney.
I didn't even think about that but wow that you mention it Sabrewing ...
It could really be a great early Wii U title. Maybe make two versions, Disney ?
@3DS_Supporter (20.): Don't underestimate the power of the brand Mickey Mouse. I'd say many of EM's sales mistly happened because Mickey was in the title.
Woo hoo! Sounds great! I don't know why everyone talks about the camera so much. It wasn't that bad. They did a good job considering. How else would you control the camera?
When someone says someone "outs" something, doesn't that mean they scratch it off from happening? Like, "Well, that's out." Huh. Anyway, never played the first one, so. Yeah.
Oh wow, so there is one more great game left on the Wii. I was set to only buy Mario Party 9, but now....
The original was a 9/10 for me. Awesome.
I don't know what everyone is talking about bad camera the camera worked fine for me but i hope they add a better RPG style to this one.
Good concept ruined by bad control and the useless motion fad.
Give me the option to use the ol' dual joysticks on my PS3 and I'll be happy.
in my city the original was 9.99$ 2 months after release and this game sucks so im not getting it
by this game i meant the first
For the original Wii? In Fall 2012?
should be on wii U with wiimote support...
well at least 360/ps3 fans wont miss out this time
PlayStation 3? I'm in!
I still haven't finished the first a year after getting it, just wasn't all that great. And DeBlob 2 bombed on the PS3 despite being a great Wii game, I expect more of the same. How is Disney Universe doing? Maybe that's a catalyst for multi-plat.
Honestly, the first Epic Mickey game really grows on you (or at least it did for me). Yes, it is flawed w. a less-than-ideal camera, too many fetch quests, somewhat limited/shallow morality system, etc. but it really does have moments of brilliance as well, and the core paint/thinner mechanic is fun and cool. My hope for the 2nd game since it is in development for other consoles as well, is that we don't get a sloppy port of the next-gen consoles. Also, I hope that they can make the story equally compelling as the first game while improving certain gameplay aspects. Here's hoping...
Great news! Still have to finish the last couple of hours of Epic Mickey (work got in the way) so a sequel makes me very happy. Hope we also get a great CE as was the case with the first one.
I have played this game twice!!! It is soo amazing and the added spice from Tim Burton made this game, well, challenging and addictive all at the same time. :3
