@Crono1973 depends on the company's expectations, which I wouldn't know anyway. You've got a good point at the end, and I think it's all due to the ballooning and ever growing budgets for every new iteration, especially in established game series. Compare the cost of something like Halo 3 to GTA V or Destiny and you'll understand how out of control some of these budgets are, which is why ports are abundant and games come out (for some series) way less frequently than they used to. We know ES 6 is a next gen game already, and so will be GTA 6, which I don't expect before 2021 anyway
@BanjoPickles I think in the real world you're actually the majority buddy. Every single game that was predicted to fail in here, original or port, has performed beyond expectations, which is why the usual suspects disappear when good sales are reported or even straight up lie, like a guy in this thread who doesn't even have a Switch yet he's here to give us his hot take on Doom. This will sell a minimum of a million copies
@JaxonH 30 million as of 2015, so definitely 35 now, and it was also full priced when ported to the PS4 and the One with less content than this version.
@Zeraki Yeap, another publisher coming back after literally decades and all you see is whining, as if Blizzard made anything else after this besides Overwatch and Hearthstone. And even if they ported any of these two, the moaners would still complain about ports
A very highly rated game which received a new expansion just last year and will include both this and the previous expansion as well as Nintendo exclusive items from a publisher that hasn't bothered with Nintendo since the N64 is coming out soon. Cue the "$60 port, played this on the PS3/4/Wii U" crowd.
@MichaelHarvey this is not an one off incident. This casual racism is expressed by the same user week after week when there are reports about Japanese sales. It's also a well-hidden way to express fanboyism without being explicit, which is what he does just because facts don't correspond with his feelings
@BlueOcean sometimes there is no need to compare architectures. For me one of the most important things about the Switch is its compatibility with some of the most popular game engines out there (Unreal, Unity, Game Maker) and specifically their latest versions. This is important in terms of releases because it allows developers to test the game without building a completely new engine for the console. EA can afford to do that but many others can't
@BlueOcean It's not similar to the Xbox One S. It's also not similar to the 360, when just the RAM is 4GB vs the 360's 512MB. I thought crazy talk was last year, didn't know we still had these silly conversations.
@electrolite77 Of course, I was never expecting it anyway. Good games nonetheless.
So a version that would scale back the current gen features but at the same time improve on the last gen versions would definitely be possible for the first two entries of the rebooted trilogy. I have no idea about the third game though.
@Regpuppy of course, licencing is included in the overall cost, which is also the case with some shooters. COD and other shooters also pay for licencing to gun manufacturers and so on. Can't imagine the Champions League licence came cheaply to EA. Exclusive licencing needs to die though, that's one thing the NBA always got right while FIFA and UEFA continue their crappy practices.
@MasterJay well I see what you mean but AAA usually refers to production values, not genres. In this respect sports games usually cost a lot more to make than most games, they are very faithful simulations of their respective sports nowadays, and the presentation is always top notch. But each to their own
@MasterJay no offense but off the top of my head I remember that a just last year we got FIFA 18 and NBA 2K18 day and date with the other platforms. Unless for some weird reason sports games don't count as AAA?
@Razer take it down a notch dude, no need to reply 100 times, we get it. Send me your sort code and account number, I'll chip in the £1.5 via direct debit so that you'll hopefully stop crying.
@Razer I don't understand nonsense mate, sorry. And you shouldn't be one talking about IQ levels when half your sentences don't make any sense, you don't know basic spelling (principals, lolll), and cry over £1.5 a month. You can't simplify things when you're a simpleton yourself
@Razer I did and for the most part it's incoherent ramblings. I did say you've got a point about the voice chat. Other than that I don't see much merit so I'm not interested in debating either, and certainly not about something that costs £1.5 a month. There are more important things in the world
@WiltonRoots in one of the warmest summers ever, you'd think people would be out enjoying the sunshine than worry and whine about Nintendo's online service.
@Razer no you don't have to buy a 300 quid system to play these games, you bought it to play newer games. They don't owe you anything, these games were made for systems of the past so if.youre so interested in playing them then yes, go buy these systems and play along. Sony is also charging for cloud saves, do you moan at them as well? The not enough multiplayer games is also your opinion, most people have more than enough and wish we could play 24/7 like you do so we can also moan about not having enough games . I'll concede the bad chat implementation, but other than that my principles (not principals) are not generally related to video games, I'd rather have principles for more important things.
@Razer it was £6 a pint but it's London so it could have been worse. You've got some points but you need to realise that a lot of people wouldn't necessarily care. I don't personally care about VC. There are three options out there giving you a ton of VC games, the Wii, the Wii U and the 3DS. I own about 30 VC games on the Wii U and the 3DS and I'm happy. If someone is dying to play VC games, there are 3 options out there, nobody is stopping you from buying one and play to your heart's content
@gaga64 exactly. And the original piece at Eurogamer is a brilliant example of proper investigative journalism. But some people can't read anything beneath the headline and all they care about is moaning about NL
@Razer the only one living in a bubble is you. I'm sure it must be hard that reality clashes with your feelings and all that, but thankfully the only one that feels like you do is yourself and about five other trolls on this website. Everyone else is just enjoying stuff and laughs at those who have been predicting the same fallacy for more than 20 years now. Still, I'd recommend checking in with your GP
@Razer if you seriously think Nintendo is going third party you need your head checked. Seriously, see a doctor, all this Doom and gloom over videogames is not healthy
@zool plenty of new games dog, tune in on Thursdays to check the weekly update. Otherwise, your concern is noted and your award for having played and completed more than 700 games in a year awaits you
@WiltonRoots these new trolls are even dumber than the old ones.. at least they could be entertaining in their stupidity and a fair few were genuine Nintendo fans experiencing a severe disappointment with the Wii U. But what they seem to have in common with the new trolls is that apparently they go around stores counting stock (of Labo now, of the Wii U then). Because we know that Nintendo is making their policies according to the anecdotal evidence of Cobalt
@Agramonte this was not a feature until very deep into this generation and most publishers didn't even implement it until Minecraft did it. From now on it'll be the norm, not the exception. At that point we'll see who buys what
@Agramonte what exactly is your argument there? That more than half of PS4 players don't play for PS+? What does that have to do with anything? The biggest games in the world right now, in 2018, have cross-play in one form or another. Soon, others will join and not because of Nintendo but because publishers will make it a feature. The future is openness
@Agramonte unless you work for Sony, it really is that simple. This is 2018, not 1998. Barriers for third party games are slowly but surely coming down little by little, and we're not far from the day when people on PC Xbox and Switch will be playing FIFA and all the other big games together. On the other side there'll be a miserable little company for the poor sods who will be stuck playing on their own little black box.
Not a new trend at all. It happened multiple times on the 3DS (Nintendo Pocket Football Club, Mario and Donkey Kong and Mario vs Donkey Kong Minis games, Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars-also an empty box with a code on the Wii U as well, Pokemon Gold and Silver) and the Wii U (Star Fox Guard as well as the Mario vs DK game mentioned before)
Edit: Just saw that the article mentions it might be a new trend for major releases (none of the above falls under that category). I'd say it's better than just selling plain download cards, which they have been doing for ages and you would just throw them away after redeeming the code.
@Cobalt and it's been out for more than a year, that's why it's 20 euros. How old are you? 12? The Vita version sold 45k in its first week , and people could already play that game in two consoles before it came to Switch. Do you want to talk about the rest of sales in Japan? I think not because it doesn't fit your miserable narrative
@Cobalt the proof that what you say is mostly complete and utter ignorant b....t is the fact that you conveniently leave out that the best sold version of YS was the one on Vita, which runs ten times worse than the switch one, while also forgetting that its global sales (launch aligned) are on par with the Vita/PS4 combined. Go troll somewhere else
@BanjoPickles spot on! Nintendo for once gives some space to third parties to sell their games. If they didn't and all these games you mentioned didn't come out, people would complain that the Switch gets nothing. I think the time between June and September is packed with at least 2 good games at any given week. October has a few too, and then November and December is Pokémon and Smash time
@Fight_Teza_Fight love how you squeezed third party cross-play in there in your thinly veiled defence of your favourite black box. Let it be said again just in case you understand it: there is literally no reason for games like FIFA, Fortnite, Minecraft, etc. to limit themselves to one platform. If you want to play by yourself and your single platform buddies, fine. You don't get to impose this to the rest of us though.
@electrolite77 and it sold another 28 million pieces of software since that article came out. That includes the time period where not just one but two successive generations have launched
@Allspice sorry, genders are not quite obvious from usernames. And yes Fallout Shelter is a game even if it's not to your liking. It's also available on other platforms and like they said it's a very profitable game for them. They've also announced TES:legends, which I think will also do very well considering the lack of competition on that genre. As for sales they've said that they're satisfied with what Skyrim and Doom have sold, and so far with 5 games (out or announced) they beat most third party publishers to the punch. I wish others tried half of what Bethesda dared
@GrailUK because he's trolling. Bethesda has put out 4 games in 1 year and 3 months of the Switch's existence whereas the last time they put anything on a Nintendo console was the SNES. Trolls don't see facts though, they just see whatever they want to see
Sounds like Sligeach has finally found his successor. Congratulations @Cobalt. In the meantime, get out, breathe some air, and relax with the ranting. Nobody cares about the games you played on the PS4
