Mojang have just announced the first patch for Minecraft's brand-new 1.18 update, titled "Caves & Cliffs Part II", which aims to fix a few bugs and issues here and there.
Technical Changes in 1.18.1 Pre-release 1
- Fixed an issue that would cause players on low-bandwidth connections to get timeout errors when connecting to a server
- World fog now starts further away from the player, to make distant terrain more visible
- Instead of applying fog as a spherical volume it is now applied as a cylindrical volume
Bugs fixed in 1.18.1 Pre-release 1
- MC-219507 - Beacon's power reverts back to previous one on world reload
- MC-242729 - Observer activating without any updates nearby, caused by /clone
- MC-243216 - Chunk render distance on servers seems shorter than in 1.17.1
The bugs above are fixed for the pre-release version, which is currently only available on PC, but is destined for a live release "at the end of next week" — the 10th of December.
Specifically for Bedrock Edition (which is the one on consoles), these are the fixes that are currently live:
Fixes:
- Fixed a crash that could occur when copying a world backup in certain languages on PlayStation
- Fixed a crash that could occur when chatting and playing on Realms
- Decreased the amount of Diamond Ore that generates to match Java Edition
- Fixed lighting bugs when removing light sources after returning to the Overworld from other dimensions (MCPE-145828)
- Players no longer have problems moving after respawning or getting out of a Bed
- Added a warning prompt explaining potential loss of data when setting File Storage Location to External on Android devices
- Fixed various crashes and storage-related issues with Android multi-user functionality and Amazon Kids/Freetime (MCPE-106524, MCPE-107503, MCPE-37685)
- Fixed simulation stopping in multiplayer sessions when other players move away from one player’s render distance (MCPE-147391)
- The teleport command will no longer succeed when 'checkForBlocks' is true and the destination is obstructed
- Fixed an issue that could cause a faulty purchase page for Realms when the maximum number of Realms are already owned
- Optimized the Marketplace Inventory screen and improved loading of content images
The Bedrock 1.18.1 live release is currently only available on PlayStation, but is scheduled for other platforms "in the coming days".
If you've experienced any bugs with the 1.18 update, make sure to put them into the Minecraft Issue Tracker if you want them fixed!

decreased diamonds wtf, ive found 42 diamonds in 1 year play time 8 hours everyday in infinite world
I love being able to tell who wrote the article immediately upon reading the subheader ❤
Removed - trolling/baiting
Looks like someone dropped salt on the ground, I just want to say I enjoy Kate's articles.
I'm not saying this to provoke anyone that disagrees, I just want to represent the group of people that actually like her writing so it doesn't seem like everyone has the same opinion.
Anyway, I'm confused - I thought the increase in diamond spawning was intentional, did they just change their minds?
Since 1.18 came out I actually played this game for the first time in a while and found some diamonds, so looks like I picked the right time to play it
@SonOfVon I’ve noticed you’ve begun to make these inappropriate jokes and jabs directed at Kate. We would appreciate if you could stop.
@talllennart In 1.18 Diamond can have up to 6 small veins per chunk and there is a 1:9 chance that the chunk will spawn a vein between 0-23 diamonds. This is dramatically increased compared to previous spawns where you might find 1 Diamond vein per chunk.
@Astral-Grain thank you!
As for the diamonds: I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like Bedrock maybe had higher diamond spawning rates than Java. With the massive caves, though, I've been having much greater success with diamonds... they're just out there in the open now!!
@SonOfVon As @Eel has noted, this isn't the first inappropriate comment you've left contravening our community rules and not-so-indirectly insulting our staff.
Please keep such remarks to yourself in future. If you're unable to do this, we'll remove more than simply the offending comment from the site.
@KateGray no thanks needed, just keep doing what you do.
At the risk of being a bit off-topic I will ask this: have you played the game Grow: Song of the Evertree? Not looking for a promise of a review or anything, just want to know if you've played it and if so, your brief thoughts.
Back on topic, I have been meaning to dive back into the Bedrock MC for Switch but the performance issues I experienced about a year ago were very off-putting, and offline play was a terrible experience. I've been playing the OG Switch Edition but now I'm really starting to want these updated features because it's so old now.
@Astral-Grain actually, you're not the first person to recommend it to me!! I'm currently doing judging for the IGFs so my game-playing schedule is pretty full for the next two weeks, but I'll definitely check it out during the Christmas break at the very least
I have encountered the chunk spawning one while boating. Thankfully it didn't result in falling through the world.
@talllennart that's way too many, give 'em back! Those diamonds don't legally belong to you!
@Wilforce not true ive tried it is not working
@N64-ROX lol
