Re: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound Will "Average" 30fps On Switch

buchu8oolong

Despite my reservations I went ahead and bought it on the Switch over the PS5 since I wanted this one as an always handheld option. I’m not noticing any significant performance issues on either the Switch 1 or 2 in handheld and the 30fps looks fine and smooth to my eyes. So I’m happy.

Weirdly, the Shinobi demo run nice on my 1 but the resolution is actually noticeably bad on my 2. Hopefully that gets sorted before release because that one great from the demo too.

It’s not the 30fps that makes me leery here, it’s the “it will average…” part. I don’t consider myself super picky most of the times between 30 and 60. But when it’s not a stable frame rate that can kill enjoyment real quick. Especially with games like this.

:/

*edit*The Game Kitchen did good with the Blasphemous series and updated it frequently, so hopefully this isn’t a big deal.

Re: Poll: Has Donkey Kong Bananza Made You Feel Ill?

I’m susceptible to this with some games. A lot of the older FPS games would become unplayable after awhile. The only time I’ve had it happen in DK is the couple of times I’ve been stuck underground and the camera can’t get a bead on my player position and I sort of have to spin and twist the camera view to adjust it. It passed quick enough, but it did happen a few times playing dig around aimlessly.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Switch 2's Screen? Because Some People Certainly Aren't

I haven’t noticed any motion blur on anything, and ghosting and blur drove me nuts on systems I’ve had in the past (PSP 1000), but as far as contrast between the OLED and the S2, outside of Cult of the Lamb (which does pop more on the OLED) I haven’t noticed a huge difference. They are both significant upgrades next to the launch Switch and Lite.

As far as that video, do they have blue effects turned on. I don’t have a copy of Cyberpunk, but Witcher 3 has that same effect and yes, turning on a motion blur will cause blur on both screens.

*edit to add; I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a screen lottery situation going on. I’d just be surprised I wasn’t the loser in one for once.

Re: Review: Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana (Switch) - An Excellent 'Less Is More' Entry In The Long-Running Series

The thing with this entry, just like it was on the PSP, is it gets going at such a nice pace and has such a fun straight forward pace I’m so much more likely to go back and replay it over and over when I am looking for low barrier to entry game to run through. It’s what makes the game the one I play over and over in the series even though there are a number of Ys games I’m very fond of. Day one purchase for me.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario & Luigi: Brothership?

I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10 a few hours in. It might drop to a 7 if it gets as repetive as people are saying (and I don’t disbelieve them). It delivers about what I want and expect, which is a pretty easy game with a little charm to take a break from other games. I only play on handheld so I didn’t notice performance issues so far.

Super Star Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story are the only two that really hit the essential must play 9 or 10.

Re: The 'Unofficial Strider Sequel' Cannon Dancer Is Finally Coming To Consoles

I played it through emulation quite a few times blindly not knowing anything about it the first fire up. It’s so immediately apparent it was put out from people involved in Strider in the best possible way. I’ve always thought Strider has such a unique feel in the movement and weight of the character and this one felt like the logical progression.

Pretty awesome news. Hope it gets a psychical run.

Re: GTA Trilogy Is Very Close To Receiving The Worst Ever Switch User Review Score On Metacritic

buchu8oolong

I ended up pulling the trigger when I read they were a lot more playable in handheld mode, because honestly that’s the only way I planned to play them. I put in maybe six or seven hours since launch on Vice City and San Andreas. Still encountered some fairly funny bugs. Only one or two that needed a restart (one stuck in a tree, the other a visual bug that was so distracting I had to) but more than playable. Disappointing. But playable.

Just to see it, I downloaded Vice City on my main switch docked to the TV, and OH MAN, it’s jarring how much worse it is. And I was fully braced for it and expecting a performance drop.

Like I said, I never planned on playing it that way, and I’m getting my milage out of handheld. But they deserve the review bombing in this case.
