@Collector I don't know the exact comments that were deleted, but I know there's a really long list of things, from harassing to inappropriate to swearing to offensive, etc. It's up to the moderator, but I've seen plenty (not here, today) that make you take a step back and then are deleted. I think your opinion, if it's a healthy conversation, is totally fine. Like you and I, great conversation and seems legit.
@Collector Good to know (about parenting and teaching, both very commendable for sure). I do deal with children as I said and I do not think you're automatically "right". It is possible for a parent to brag about their kid and not seek anything beyond joy. I can't imagine you never brag about your kids or your student's accomplishments. Maybe I'm being an optimist...
@Collector How many kids do you have? I have 2 that I find myself bragging about regularly. I'm proud of what they accomplish and I'm in awe that they exceed my expectations daily. Times when I think they can't do that, not only do they accomplish the task but they shock me to the point that I make sure people I know are aware... not because I need attention, but because I'm PROUD.
My dad is 80. He still brags about the veg I grow in my backyard. Trust me, he's not doing it for his own attention.
As a parent of young children who have uncles and pseudo-uncles that are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, I can tell you they think about this on their own and as a parent who loves them and all the uncles, I support their thoughtfulness 100%. My kids care about how others feel and, even from a young age, are well aware that people don't treat others equally. Specifically, my daughter has taken a stand in her class to educate some young boys who made derogatory remarks, presenting a well thought out speech. I had no idea it happened until her teacher reached out to tell us how proud she was. So, for the handful of you that think kids aren't smart or thoughtful, I live with two that definitely are and have been for a majority of their life. It's sad to see the doubt of something that should be so positive.
And, as far as people being upset about the lack of non-binary inclusion, I think it's more about being able to relate than why isn't it there. Kids are empowered when they can relate to something they like and that only makes for a positive experience.
As much as I'd like to dive in on this, I struggle with Limited Run Games. I've pre-ordered a handful of games and still haven't received some from last October (their site says they're still in production!). I understand there's a pandemic, but this isn't abnormal for LRG. They've had my money for 6+ months and I have no idea when I'll receive my goods. I know they won't rip me off but still... I prefer Super Rare because I know if I order it I'll receive it within a month (if I don't buy a multi-release pack). Too bad because I really want this as a part of my physical collection.
I find this interesting because, if I remember correctly, Niantic was doing well financially with the game during the implemented changes. It has to be connected with the new event or whatever that is...
On that note, my kids and I won't be playing I guess because we don't do a lot outside at the moment due to where we live and having comorbidities (asthma). We really got back into it during the pandemic and, I'll admit we spent way too much getting remote raid passes. Oh well...
@ItsOKToBeOK Most importantly, stay safe and I hope the best for you, your family, friends and everyone.
With that said, I have friends who work for companies who have given paid leave at this point. They work in retail at what I would consider the same level or store manager level as the GameStop employees. They're home, safer with their family and getting by... With pay! Now's the time for these companies to step up and protect their biggest asset... The front line employees who make them all their money. A short period of time of appreciation would go a LONG way for their company internally and externally.
I don't have the frustrating words for this ridiculousness. I have worked from home for over a decade and I've never found that GameStop offered me anything I NEEDED to complete my job... And I work in motion graphics, which is fairly close to what they offer! GameStop is entertainment, plain and simple and they are putting their employees at risk for a few bucks.
I know people say it, but I'm out when it comes to giving GameStop any of my money. I am stubborn enough to do it too take a miniscule stand against basic employee rights.
@KFlow325 I received an email that my copy had been shipped and expected tomorrow. My second copy for my kid's is from Amazon and is delayed until 11pm tomorrow... When I see that, for any order from Amazon, it means I won't see it until the next day or later (I live in the middle of nowhere and they aren't driving an hour and a half from the main hub at 11pm!!!).
@danemord no need to apologize. This is a great conversation!
I agree with your last post fully... Except the part about copyright infringement. I'm not sure this would be easy, but, like you, I am completely unqualified. Hehe. And that might be the issue proving it. I see it as a non-issue, you see it as one and depending on their day in court (assuming this would even get that far), it could boil down to opinion as well... Very interesting since "expression of ideas" is vague.
@danemord as much as I'd love to agree, art is far more subjective than science. As an artist myself, I've seen plenty in the history books of renowned artists who copied from sources and made millions... Go have a few bowls of soup and figure out person I may mean! Hehe. I've also seen court cases about design where you'd think "that company totally ripped off that work" only to hear they didn't... They used it as a jumping off point but they created their own assets, code, etc. Those characters aren't Cuphead and Mugman... Clearly. It's insanely close... But it's art. Unless you can prove they lifted assets or code or whatever... They can keep doing their thing.
@matdub seriously, that was locked away in the archives of my brain until you made this joke. Haha, good one but... Ew.
I'm not overly upset about this game looking "heavily inspired" by Cuphead because I've seen it done so many times with games. Like a previous post says about Mario 64, or a ton of FPS games, puzzle games... When something's successful, devs will look at it to get a piece of the pie. Look at all the Minecraft clones!!! Hehe.
In the end, don't support it if you don't agree...
Oh, my wife is not going to be pleased you posted this article!!! I visited back in 2007 right before we had kids, basically as a last trip before we had no cash to do something of this magnitude... I had to buy two suitcases to get all my gaming goodness home! My wife would nap and, for some crazy reason, let me go out by myself and bring back goodies to show her (she's since learned that I need an adult leash). A favorite memory was doing laps in one area, stopping for some food at one vendor every time setting. By the fourth time, they were ready for me!
Anyway, I'm going back when my kids are a bit older, with them by my side (equally excited by the idea!!!). This article is a great refresher so we can plan our routes efficiently! Haha!!!
@Tasuki While I would love more jobs in the US... the problem is, the cost would be crazy. Americans want a minimum $15/hr to work while the same job can be completed, the item shipped on a slow boat and make it to the shores for far less. And I can speak to the fact that projects I was going to work on were cancelled and given to countries like India for a fraction of what I could do the work for (i.e. - one client was quoted $5/hr for animation and created by a team in half the time I quoted). I can't live off that price so bringing it all "home" isn't as easy as it sounds.
I don't want to get all political in a place that I visit to escape the reality of what's going on... but I think there are too many people suggesting that companies should ditch a country that we (American economy, at least) rely so heavily on... and, to be fare, has a direct impact on the small business person. I speak from experience since part of the reason my business was closed was companies preparing for the worst with these tariffs. My video equipment costs spiked considerably, projects I assumed were in the bag were cancelled and a bunch of clients went somewhere else... as in across the ocean to places where they can get "bargain" prices for work. I lost something I was incredibly passionate about because I what I do and how I do it as a small company. I didn't get the mega tax break or help when this type of thing happens. I know it's frustrating to hear big companies complain, but the impact is real and it's taking waves of businesses with it.
Sadly, one of my last projects spoke to small businesses and how they can't survive massive shifts... don't I know it.
I've never played this and all I know about it is from the video above... But if you can't use bodies to secretly fertilize your garden (make stuff grow faster and more energy without getting caught), secretly sneak/sell parts from the autopsy or other shady things, then they really missed a gaming opportunity!!!
I promise, I'm just thinking of dark gaming ideas... 😇
@Razer Thanks for the reply. Always nice to have a good conversation.
First of all, other than the first article, those are all OPINION pieces... Second, most are 5 or more months old, the first one being from almost exactly a year ago... and it's the only one with a tiny bit of info to back up some sort of lull (I admit I stopped reading at one point because some info was dated and it's a LONG article! Haha.). Yet here we are with VR still moving forward and companies like NVIDIA, AMD, Valve, Oculus, Microsoft, etc. forming a standard for VR headsets.
^ That article, from NVIDIA, is a month old. Why, if this is dying, are major players teaming up to get things in order?
Also, as I stated, I work in VR, 360 video and I can tell you, not only is it not going anywhere soon, companies are eating it up. They're forming teams to do research and try out ways to implement it because it's a viable option for global companies. Look up SIGGRAPH when you get a chance. It's a major Movie, Gaming and tech conference that's held every year on the West coast in the US. It's a big deal and VR... well, it's creeping in to all sorts of areas there.
As for the code in the Switch, I think it's been stated already (maybe the first comment?!) that it could very well be leftover code from Android development. That doesn't mean Nintendo is using it... and I will tell you, no one would want it with a 720 screen! Hehe.
Maybe... and I'm not giving you a 51% vote towards "yes"!... maybe, in gaming VR won't take off, but outside of gaming I think you'd be really surprised to see how it's being adopted.
Thanks for the great back and forth! Have a great day and feel free to keep it going!
@Rayquaza2510 Oculus Go would love to have a chat about mobile VR's lack of power. It's completely wireless, lasts 3 hours and has some decent resolution and capabilities. Mobile is there and a lot of companies are looking at wireless and inside-out tech so the headset is completely free from a PC.
@Razer and @Heavyarms55 For being a "fad", it sure has taken tech companies and such by storm. Maybe you or your immediate group aren't interested in it, but that doesn't count as an absolute. VR and 360 video have catapulted in recent times, causing a takeover of important conferences like SIGGRAPH and sprouting their own. It's also not solely for gaming, which I happen to know very well... Since my company develops training and entertainment using VR and 360 video.
Massive corporations/Financial institutions are really adopting it to save on in-person training.
Hospitals are building therapeutic programs around VR for rehab or distraction during chemo.
How do I know? Because I've built and supplied those two types and many more. Immersive tech isn't a fad because your perception is "meh" in gaming. Gotta think outside the box.
@JHDK Same here. I love the 2/3DS and have more games on that system than any other platform, yet the day I picked up my Switch I stopped dead. I also played Metroid and that's it. I'm super hooked on the Switch and my library is growing fast!!!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Accuracy is the inclusion of all the parts... You're mentioning proportions. Totally different.
I laughed for a minute at this today because, as a 3D artist, unexpected "folds" in material based on weighting can lend themselves to hilarious deformations. I've had a few funny ones, which all my friends swear I did on purpose... We may never know. 😝
@Dijita You nailed it. As a (former) mtn biker and animator, this kind of stuff drives me nuts. Skilled animators research or act out the needed actions and then they know how the body reacts. Sadly, I see so much sub-par animation like this that it's distracting and I can't enjoy the game/video/movie. The funniest thing though... when I take the time to prep for my animations by researching, they actually take less time to complete so that can't be the excuse... Oh well.
I'm not concerned and I think it's nutty for anyone to think their E3 is going to be lame just because they're not doing a live show. I work at SIGGRAPH every year (look it up, it's no slouch of a show for graphics) and Pixar didn't have a booth last year... first time ever. Does that mean they are having a bad year?!?! Haha. Nope, they did a private industry party and blew the doors of a ton of great stuff.
I think Nintendo has found a great niche with these directs and they're going this route from now on. Sometimes you pessimists read into stuff way too much!
I found the same thing. I honestly think this is the design... and I'm going to check the thickness of the machine with calipers when I get the chance (need to borrow them!). The Switch seems to be equal thickness to the naked eye, but it could be that they thickened the center up to accommodate for something (I'm not a hardware designer, so I have no clue) or for other reasons.
I also feel that if this were due to heat, it wouldn't be so symmetric, especially across the board. Some might experience twisting, warping, bending or other issues, but nothing so perfect every time...
I read this article with a big grain of salt... but then I checked my Switch and it does have a slight curve. My initial thought was frustration, mostly because I play in handheld mode (75% of the time, at least). But then I was thinking... how do we know the shape is from heat and not the design? I don't know for sure, but I'm waiting to hear more from the source - Nintendo.
@JLPick Yep, I received that box in the mail. It was pretty surprising, actually. For me, it was a pink Wiimote, pink nunchuck, some cardboard Mii masks on a stick, a Dominoes pizza giftcard and Wii Party. It said something about getting friends together to have fun on Nintendo's dime. Pretty cool.
Same for this story. Really great for a company to reach out like that. Very classy.
@MeWario .... I'm buying it, mostly because I like the design and, well, I want to. I don't have every 3DS either, like you don't have every comic. Just because the latest tech is coming doesn't mean some of us have to buy it right away. There's still good games coming for the 360/PS3 and people buy those (I understand the backwards compatibility issue, btw). It's a preference. Plus, has the New 3DS been given a firm release in NA? So when would I be waiting for.... ?
Also, I'm sure my Famicom or Zelda GBA SPs are worth more than a micro, but I could be wrong....
I'm having the same issue in America. I can't access the tournaments in the basement at all. I really want to check them out as well as snag the Gameboy clothing, but there are two bars blocking my way. Does anyone know how to access them? I've won 2 of 3 courses and completed some of the challenges, but still blocked from the online. What is going on?!
Thanks for any help!!!
EDIT: I figured out I had to go to the board and enter from there. Ugh, sorry for being so dumb.
@TheItalianBaptist Like Capt_N said, it's worded in the twet that it will change, but also look at the two images. They're definitely different (flower, edge of the ground by the hut, etc). I think that's a pretty cool level!
This is the first I've heard of this game, but I love that it mixes shmup and platforming. The animation and style are great!!! Calendar marked. I'm off to research more...
I'm a huge fan of pop-up books (making them and reading) so I was already pretty excited for this game... but that was pushed over the edge when I saw they used MODO to create the assets (quick screen shot at 00:30)! It's the 3D program I use for work/freelance so it's great to see it in action for games. Very cool!
@SMEXIZELDAMAN Hmm, sort of a close minded comment. I know I love games, love to collect "non-English" games and game related toys and manage to have a beautiful family, friends (gaming and non), a full-time job (animating, no less!!!) and a whole lot more. It's not flushing one's life away, it's just a passion and hobby some of us happen to enjoy...
... but I will say, my first 3DS has been "flagged" for bathroom duty, so you may be half right.
@vicviper That is fantastic! Have a great time and congratulations!!!
I'm a huge fan of baseball, so I went to a Yomiuri Giants game. The atmosphere there was nothing like American baseball, in a fantastic way - massive banners, designated cheering sections, people running around with kegs on their back to sell you "beverages"!!!. There was a man that worked in the hotel I stayed at that was a huge fan of baseball as well and loved to talk to me about MLB, every day! The point is, the people are great and are welcoming, from my experience. That's really the biggest reason for me to go back.
Be prepared, though... I liken the experience of stepping off the train in Akihabara to Stendhal syndrome <--- Google it. HAHA!
I used to import games and systems (handheld only) to the States, but stopped abruptly... because I took a 2 week "shopping trip" to Japan! It was place I always wanted to go before we had kids, so my wife gave in to the whining. I can remember my first day in Tokyo and the childlike amazement I experienced (at 33!). I researched the great places to go (Super Potato!) and had a hard time not spending all my "allowance" in one day - a Famicom, N64, tons of games for each. I had to buy 2 new suitcases to come home... I'm not kidding.
Since then, I want to buy more, but there's a something lost in buying it online compared to the adventure I was lucky enough to enjoy. I'm going back, and I know I'll repeat the process of over indulging in my favorite hobby... it's just when and how to afford 4 people this time without cutting in to my game budget!
@Peach64 - Basically what you said. They don't need bored bodies sitting around while they transition. It's good for the company, trust me.
I worked for a company a few years ago that did the same thing. They had become larger (about 70 people plus contractors) and transitioned to a new "product". In that transition, they slimmed down to less than 15 people and now, 3 years later, I'm working for them again in a contract role but higher up the food chain and earlier in the process. It's not bad, especially if any of those guys made a good impression... Criterion won't forget them and will look to fit them in when it's time.
@bonham2 Yeah, I'm slightly disappointed in that price as well. You can pick the cart up for about the same amount (of course, you do need to own and hook up the system, but still...). It has me concerned for the GCN prices if/when they hit the eshop. These prices go from impulse buy to nah...
@Haywired I for one can tell you I bought the game because of the free content. It's marketing. When someone looks at a product and sees so much content for the initial buy in or the words "FREE!", they're apt to take a second look or make a purchase they were borderline on making. It is a great business decision because not only did I buy the game, but I rushed to buy the discounted content before the price went up... In my mind, I saved $2 but Nintendo made $49.99 off me so far.

Re: Rumour: A Hidden VR Settings Menu Appears To Have Been Found On Switch
Re: Reggie On The Status Of More Nintendo 3DS Games And Mario Kart Tour
@JHDK Same here. I love the 2/3DS and have more games on that system than any other platform, yet the day I picked up my Switch I stopped dead. I also played Metroid and that's it. I'm super hooked on the Switch and my library is growing fast!!!
Re: Weirdness: Mario Tennis Aces Artwork Triggers An Unlikely Discussion About Luigi's Lunch Box
Re: Response To Descenders On Switch Has Been "Incredible", Says No More Robots
@Dijita You nailed it. As a (former) mtn biker and animator, this kind of stuff drives me nuts. Skilled animators research or act out the needed actions and then they know how the body reacts. Sadly, I see so much sub-par animation like this that it's distracting and I can't enjoy the game/video/movie. The funniest thing though... when I take the time to prep for my animations by researching, they actually take less time to complete so that can't be the excuse... Oh well.
Re: Surprise, Nintendo Isn't Hosting An E3 Press Conference This Year
I'm not concerned and I think it's nutty for anyone to think their E3 is going to be lame just because they're not doing a live show.
Re: Forget Scratched Screens And Joy-Con Problems, "Warp-Gate" Is The New Nintendo Switch Issue
@Discostew
Re: Forget Scratched Screens And Joy-Con Problems, "Warp-Gate" Is The New Nintendo Switch Issue
Re: Nintendo Sends a Lovely Legend of Zelda Care Package in Honour of a Young Fan
Re: NES-Themed Nintendo 3DS XL On The Way as GameStop Exclusive
..... my wife will not be happy... I just picked up the Mario & Luigi bundle on sale. How do I pull off a 4th 3DS?!
Re: Walmart Lists Blue And Red Smash Bros 3DS XL Consoles For September Launch In North America
Re: Guide: Getting Into The Swing Of Mario Golf: World Tour
@bouncer0304
Re: Tortimer Island Confirmed as a New 3DS Stage in Super Smash Bros.
@TheItalianBaptist Like Capt_N said, it's worded in the twet that it will change, but also look at the two images. They're definitely different (flower, edge of the ground by the hut, etc). I think that's a pretty cool level!
Re: Ballpoint Universe Coming To The North American Wii U eShop On March 18th
This is the first I've heard of this game, but I love that it mixes shmup and platforming. The animation and style are great!!! Calendar marked. I'm off to research more...
Re: HTML5 Impact Engine Developer Talks Up The Value of the Nintendo Web Framework
@datamonkey That was my first thought!!!! Put me down for a copy!
Re: Video: New Siesta Fiesta Gameplay Lights Up The Night On 3DS eShop
As a HUGE fan of Arkanoid (in the arcade... sigh I'm old), this totally has my attention. Great gameplay video... I'm in for a copy!
Re: Video: Nyamyam's Jennifer Schneidereit Talks Tengami On Wii U
I'm a huge fan of pop-up books (making them and reading) so I was already pretty excited for this game... but that was pushed over the edge when I saw they used MODO to create the assets (quick screen shot at 00:30)! It's the 3D program I use for work/freelance so it's great to see it in action for games. Very cool!
Re: This Year of Luigi Diorama Brings a Dark Moon to Club Nintendo
Nabbed mine... I've been storing up like a squirrel forever and it finally paid off! Now we wait until March....
Re: Feature: Why I Love Import Gaming
@SMEXIZELDAMAN Hmm, sort of a close minded comment. I know I love games, love to collect "non-English" games and game related toys and manage to have a beautiful family, friends (gaming and non), a full-time job (animating, no less!!!) and a whole lot more. It's not flushing one's life away, it's just a passion and hobby some of us happen to enjoy...
... but I will say, my first 3DS has been "flagged" for bathroom duty, so you may be half right.
Re: Feature: Why I Love Import Gaming
@vicviper
That is fantastic!
HAHA!
Re: Feature: Why I Love Import Gaming
Re: Feature: A Week of Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Screens - Issue Sixteen
@CountWavula Why is he cramming those bananas in his ears....?
Re: Burnout And Need For Speed Studio Criterion Downsizes To Just 15 People
@Peach64 - Basically what you said.
I see this as a good move towards change.
Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April - Virtual Console (North America)
@bonham2 Yeah, I'm slightly disappointed in that price as well. You can pick the cart up for about the same amount (of course, you do need to own and hook up the system, but still...). It has me concerned for the GCN prices if/when they hit the eshop. These prices go from impulse buy to nah...
Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening SpotPass Content Going Into Battle Today
@Haywired I for one can tell you I bought the game because of the free content. It's marketing. When someone looks at a product and sees so much content for the initial buy in or the words "FREE!", they're apt to take a second look or make a purchase they were borderline on making. It is a great business decision because not only did I buy the game, but I rushed to buy the discounted content before the price went up... In my mind, I saved $2 but Nintendo made $49.99 off me so far.
