Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price?

bound4earth

@johnvboy The expansion might not be force but online play is tied to the $20 plan which should have included these roms with no expansion in price. Nintendo should have stayed at the $20 mark where anyone could argue the value, once you start paying Xbox live/PS plus prices and just get old roms, instead of new games in return, fans start to realize it is a scam and it all starts falling apart.

Re: Random: Forget Dread, It's All About Metroid: Other M On Twitter Right Now

bound4earth

@YANDMAN A lot of reviews ignored the story and come to the correct interpretation that the game play is mediocre and doesn't excel or innovate in anything. It is passable, but to pretend it is a gem or classic, even Team Ninja didn't want to use that control scheme. A lot of people agree that if they had just used the nun-chuck the game would have been much better, but they decided to allow a writer to make a decision that destroy the game play and story of Other M.

I don't think bad games use the nunchuk because there are a lot of great games that do, there's a certain image created with the nun chuk, it's a bit of a barrier in accessibility because it's a "different" control. -Yoshio Sakamoto

Yet he used a control scheme that was a much larger barrier to entry, accessibility, and constant uneccessary shifting between sideways and pointed at the TV. The Nun chuck does this already by default and allows more buttons which limited what they could even do and Team Ninja spoke about that, which is why the game play is so boring and limited. This is why you leave the decision making to the smart people.

bound4earth

@blaisedinsd Except she is not a badass at all, she is a submissive weak willed woman, which lines up with a lot of Manga stories. That doesn't mean the Manga and Other M do not destroy her as a strong female character. Defending her cowering to a villain she has fought for decades without issue or refusing to use power ups until her master unlocks them verbally is a good story...

Re: Japanese Charts: Metroid Dread Slips Down To Second, Switch OLED Leads Hardware Listings

bound4earth

@Nourldean To be fair, Japan hasn't liked Sony much since they let Sony America take over and stopped making games en masse that appeal to their own market.

This started back in the PS3 days when Sony Japan shot itself in both feet and American game sales helped un-***** their mistake a bit. Give them some control, but to let them take over and alienate your own base is puzzling. It has led to the Japanese abandoning the PS overall because the games that appeal to them no longer exist. They might as well be Xbox, trying to sell games that appeal to America in Japan.

Re: Random: It Has Now Been 1,000 Days Since Metroid Prime 4's Development Was Restarted

bound4earth

@ModdedInkling That is quite literally what happened. The problem is we haven't heard anything since, which is not a good sign, especially on a game that has such hype. Nintendo doesn't just announce and launch a game in a year. It involves constant updates with trailers at trade shows. The fact that they have shown nothing speaks volumes. The fact that Dread even exists, shows how they knew a gap was going to exist and Prime probably won't launch until 2023-2024.

Re: Random: It Has Now Been 1,000 Days Since Metroid Prime 4's Development Was Restarted

bound4earth

@LinkSword Pretending that any healthy company is constantly bleeding massive amounts of developers is ignorance. Retro Studios has been losing people since Jeff the corrupt founder was forced out that much is beyond true, but thinking this is normal for all companies...

Guys Nintendo wants us to develop Donkey Kong Country Returns, ok we just lost 10 key people, so get to hiring before we can even start. Released Returns now they want us to help on Mario Kart 7. Ok lost 15 key people get to hiring and let them know we can start in six months once we get our ducks in order. Mario Kart 7 is out, ok now they want a sequel to Returns, damn it, we just lost another 25 key people, back to hiring and let them know we can start in another 6 months. Your logic in how game development works is puzzling. Once a game is announced it has been under development for at least 6-12 months. Once Prime 4 was announced to be scrapped and shifted to Retro Studios, the work was done and started for many months prior.

Pretending Retro Studios just heard the announcement of work on Prime 4 when we did and were scrambling to hire and didn't start any work for another 6-12 months. That is pure ignorance to justify hearing nothing after two year. They had to hire more key people as they do for every game cycle before they can even start to work on it a year later...

Re: Random: It Has Now Been 1,000 Days Since Metroid Prime 4's Development Was Restarted

bound4earth

@GeneJacket A lot of Prime fans, ignore the simple fact that Nintendo intentionally ignored Retro Studios, the company that made Prime 1-3, the first time around. They did so intentionally because the directors left at Retro Studios aren't capable of making a Prime game. I caught a lot of hate years ago when I pointed out this simple fact. It hurts but is true, the company can still make great games and has worked on some great stuff, but even then their time frame on delivery isn't great.

Donkey Kong Country Returns took 3 years, Tropical Freeze took almost 4 years with diverting to help develop Mario Kart 7. This was with the groundwork already done and should have been much faster for the sequel. I once again blame leadership. whether you like Mark Pacini or not, he was able to deliver even while the toxic founder Jeff Spangenberg was toppling the company down on the developers. Retro Studios barely survived and only because Nintendo forced Jeff out of the company he created. This was in 2002 nearing the launch of the first Prime and the company continued to crumble right up until the Prime 3 launch, when Mark Pacini left. They have struggled to fill those roles and repair the damage that Jeff created to this day. Fanboys ignore all of that and pretend it is the same company.

Re: Random: It Has Now Been 1,000 Days Since Metroid Prime 4's Development Was Restarted

bound4earth

Retro Studios have contributed greatly to a lot of games since Prime 3, but haven't had the leadership to create 3D games, especially on the scale of a Prime game. There was a reason why Nintendo ignored Retro and tried to make Prime 4 in house.

I just hope Retro was able to bolster it's severely lacking leadership which is what has been holding it back. I hope they have found a good replacement for Mark Pacini and I am wrong and they deliver a game worthy of the Prime name.

Re: "I Don't Think The Switch Needs A More Powerful Version" Says 'World War Z' Lead Designer

bound4earth

@Kisame83 Exactly, Nintendo didn't shift away from specs until the Wii.

N64 used cutting edge 3D graphics technology and hardware from Silicon Graphics Inc. Star Wars Rogue Squadron was an amazing game that showed how great the technology was in the N64.

The GameCube had specs much better then PS2. There was a reason why the GameCube version was preferred by people without fanboy bias, before other ports became widespread. It could compete with visuals that came close to Xbox with better frame rates (rock solid) in a lot of games. Star Wars Rogue Squadron II embarrassed a lot of games on Xbox due to the simpler hardware in the GameCube, which made designing games that look great actually faster.

There was a reason why Xbox 360 went with their own version of the GameCube CPU(IBM Power-PC)/GPU (ATI)

Factor 5 was an amazingly talented company. Sad to see them go, all because Lucas Arts had a change in leadership and dropped them. They partnered with Sony and were forced to remove manual controls and instead insert Sony motion alone. Sony ensured the game could never be good and destroyed the company.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 13.1.0 Is Now Live - Adds The Switch Online Expansion Pack

bound4earth

@shining_nexus Or they have no clue how it takes advantage of them. Just because some fans don't understand that Sony and Microsoft give 2-4 free games every month for $60 does not justify Nintendo doing this or make it worth the money. Sony was toxic for not supporting cross play, but this is so much worse.

Edit: Any emulated games should be included in the $20 price, once the emulator is working it costs them almost nothing. How can you justify N64 roms, but once you include Sega ones that have been around for two decades on PC and other platforms being included to justify a price tag that nets you nothing is inexcusable. The Nintendo tax won't die because ignorance is justified.

Re: GPD Has Plans For Its Own Switch-Style Handheld Device Powered By Android

bound4earth

@victordamazio They didn't invent everything, but they have invented before, they also constantly innovate and lead the market constantly, which is just as important. There is a reason why PS controllers have four face buttons, D-pad, shoulder buttons, analog sticks, rumble, wireless, motion, and now HD rumble and that was just what they copied from Nintendo controllers. The only innovation Sony brought to controllers was doubling the N64 Analog controller (which was smart) and adaptive triggers.

Nintendo is not Apple, sure they have a lot of fanboys, but not enough to influence the market. Nintendo influences the market because they make rock solid console/controller innovations and they become standard because they did it better. Not sure what you are trying to say? Nintendo isn't perfect, far from it, but to claim it just gets lucky by throwing together already existing technology is ignorance.

Re: Rare Gives Us A Side-By-Side Comparison Of Banjo-Kazooie's amiibo And Totaku

bound4earth

@Wilforce So you think Microsoft wants to get screwed again? The bought an already near dead company that had bleed out the big talent before the sale. Which went on to finish all games originally planned for Nintendo to nothing but mediocre scores with grabbed by ghoulies, Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero, and arguably their biggest hit under Microsoft Viva Pinata (where kids could watch bugs have sex). Also don't forget that the Conker remake is considered worse in every way but graphics as they changed slot for the worse. Everyone pretends that Microsoft killed Rare. Microsoft gave them so many chances, but when you deliver nothing but mediocre title after mediocre title, you have to stop wasting so much money on big games. They even let them make a Banjo game and The talentless devs left at Rare said nope we making a vehicle game instead. Followed by sea of Thrives, a game that somehow reviewed nearly identical to the below mediocre grabbed by ghoulies game.

Now you think they are brain damaged enough to relinquish an entire IP just to obtain the rights to port one N64 game? How does that make any sense? Rare might be a broken company but without any IPs you cannot put smart leadership in place and rebuild. one day Rare could be on top again, probably not because Microsoft tends to be hands off when it comes to Rare structure, but we can hope.

Wouldn't it be smarter to just make a new Goldeneye that could arguably sell millions more then a simple xblive arcade game? Either way they have to work with the current James Bond license holder Danjeq through a partnership, money or both. You know the holding company that didn't give them the licensing rights for the arcade game in 2007 and cause the project to be cancelled.

In the end you can play the arcade game now through the leaked rom. Perhaps that will build enough attention to allow them to get the license to make a new one. Then again perhaps IO interactive can do what EA and Activision failed so spectacularly to do. Release a good Bond game so it wouldn't be necessary.

Edit: TL:DR; trade an entire IP for the rights to port one game? Seems like a ***** deal even though Rare has been dead since before the sale to Microsoft.

Re: Feature: Why Zelda: Link’s Awakening Is Literally My Dream Game

bound4earth

I think the game itself is brilliant and the remake is done very well, what isn't cool is how the Nintendo tax keeps going up though. When a game doesn't even break 20 hours in totality and still costs $60 for a graphics update. Then again the Switch All Stars shows that just 3 roms should costs $15-20 each for no reason. Their abuse of nostalgia is getting to be a bit much. All Stars was a graphical update for all the games at least and included 4, Galaxy 2 should have been included and at least some effort into updated garaphics and effort and not milking fans with the least amount of effort.

Edit: The 3DS version at least tried by adding other playable characters and metrics and was portable. Mario 64, in all stars, is less innovative than the Mario64 executable that was compiled after the leak. They don't even try sometimes.

Re: Review: Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl – Gold - Endearing RPG Action With Bags Of Character

bound4earth

Anyone else feel like the game costs a bit too much money? It claims to be a dungeon crawler with no features that make a dungeon crawler worth the money (i.e crafting, enchanting, gemming, transmog, talents, open world etc). So it is Fantasy Life without all of the parts that made the game so amazing and worth putting hundreds of hours playing. I would snap this up at $20 and consider it at $30, but $50 seems a bit much for a game that will get old and grindy for everyone eventually.

Re: The ESRB Rating On The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Web Page No Longer Mentions In-Game Purchases

bound4earth

You mean a temporary relief. This does not stop them from adding it in later and a few months later finally getting the rating changed while illegally advertising and selling a game with micro-transactions. This has happened in hundreds of AAA titles in recent years. In the past I would have put it past Nintendo, but recently they started gouging us with $20 DLC for BoTW that is barely worth $5, a $20 online service with no real redeeming value yet (garbage compared to what Sony/Microsoft give), their entire mobile phone game market being toxic with microtransactions in game like Fire Emblem Heroes randomly giving you heroes and even spending $10K guarantees nothing, and other scummy things.

Re: Pokémon GO Players Contact Advertising Standards Over Hidden Safari Zone Ticket Costs

bound4earth

@PorllM You are obviously ignorant of the issue. In countries like America, we are used to taxes being added on later, but countries that care more about their consumers have laws that require the advertised price to include taxes. No reason to be a fanboy of Nintendo or Niantic here. They are in the wrong and falsely advertising, stop ignorantly defending everything a company does, especially when they are wrong, just because you enjoy their games.

Re: Nintendo Shares A Single New Animal Crossing: New Horizons Screenshot

bound4earth

You do a video for every confirmed Villager with no write up or pictures in the article. Why does this website even exist? You seem to want to shift everything into video formates forgoing the website instead of making it complimentary. You seem to not understand why the website exists. It is supposed to include all of the information in the video plus extra information that couldn't fit in the video. Every year this website gets less and less content because you push it into easy to make videos. You fail to understand the driving force of video content is the personalities behind the content. Your video guys are not bad, just far from anything I would watch on a regular occasion. At this point I should just about abandon the website as it continues to slide into mostly video articles with less personality. There is near no redeeming qualities in going all videos for NintendoLife.

Re: Conker's Creator Doesn't Think There Would Be As Much Noise For Other Rare IP On Switch

bound4earth

I love how they talk about not much being done, that is because Rareware fell apart long before they left Nintendo. Look at Donkey Kong 64 which was a mess of a game, then you have Dinosaur Planet which Shiggy forced a rework with Starfox characters in an attempt to save that pile and it was still so bad.

Can we stop pretending that RareWare was this AAA company when Nintendo sold them off. There is a reason why Nintendo allowed Rare to find a buyer instead of making them a First Party. That pattern only continued to get spiral out of control. They were losing a lot of talent around the late 90s and it happened time and again with many headlines. I blame the CEO brothers and this was long before the sale to Microsoft. They couldn't even hit a homerun with a simple remake of Conkers. Most people still prefer the original because it had more charm and better censorship timing along with the amazing multiplayer that was oddly cut. Conkers Bad Fur Day was the last team that has a cohesive vision that worked at the company and they never released another title even close to a AAA title by any measure.

What I mean by all of this, just because some of the members that made up the team that delivered Conker's Bad Fur Day still worked their does not mean anything. You need great leadership to bring people together and everyone has to work well together. People often forget that multiple teams exist at even small companies working on multiple games at once. This is why you saw the gems of Conker's Bar Fur Day and Perfect Dark releasing just after the trash of Donkey Kong 64 and just before Star Fox Adventures which wasn't even mediocre.

Either way, Switch could benefit from new players checking out hidden gems like Jet Force Gemini.

Re: Shovel Knight's Board Game Kickstarter Has Been Cancelled, Relaunching Mid August

bound4earth

I can get behind the idea, but any company as successful as the Shovel Knight developer has more then enough funds to back this project. Why is the community again being asked to take the risk for them? Is their next game also going to be Kickstarted? When does it all end?

No options or variability in models and they are "pre-assembled", seems like they miss the point and why people buy these models and play these games. $30 is a lot for some punched cardboard with no protective coating to me. I understand that most games use this type, but other games do not have boards that rotate like this which will drive wear and tear. This will not age well. Seems a bit much like a cash grab to me. Again, fans should not be funding experiments.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 8.1.0 Is Now Live

bound4earth

Typical Nintendo, why make the eShop good when you can fail to try to thwart piracy instead. I am not claiming they should not try, but it seems like they focus a bit too much on it and hardly ever have quality of life updates. The eShop is still a pile of garbage yet more piracy updates incoming for another few years before it gets fixed.
