@calbeau No it's called nothing because Nintendo spends their time on making fun games, and doesn't have extra time to burn to call their engine the Wa Hoo Engine
The reason it will look comparable on the Switch and a High End PC is because it won't look impressive on either. Also your enemies are low asset polygons how hard is that to render?
@Serpenterror You may be the first person to call Lost World a good Sonic Game instead of a Mario Galaxy rip off. In fact it's sitting at a 63% on Metacritic with a 7.2 audience rating.
@Snatcher Pokemon Sword and Shield had extremely fast load times, many games hit under 15 seconds in fact. That is a very long time it may not seem like it, but sit there and count: 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi so forth, now do that 5 times
@Snatcher 15 sec load times would be great it that was one and done, but the game stops you so many times to get yet another cut scene and then has load times again that it adds up. I watched some of the leaked footage where sonic is traveling with Amy and is stopped no less than 4 times to discover another one of those round rock babies and a whole cutscene plays out. It was jarring how frequent it happened in the span of 5 mins
@Dizavid The difference between Arceus and Frontiers is despite the bland graphics of Arceus it at least looked like they had an overall look and style going on that made sense for the series. Sonic Frontiers has enemies that looks poorly designed and meant for another game entirely, grind rails, speed boosts and jump pads randomly thrown onto generic environments.
I can take bad graphics but bad game design and mechanics grind my gears.
@Snatcher The Switch version has load times up to 15 seconds, severe pop in and frame rate issues. The Digital Foundry video on this game will be worth watching for sure.
@johnvboy I think any interested parties should at least wait until Monday to see if it's a dumpster fire or at least average. And waiting for a used copy or a sale seems like the right move
@Mauzuri I hope you have fun making that terrible decision. It's ok to have a bad soundtrack if the overall game is fun, the problem with Frontiers is it won't be fun like BOTW
@Snatcher I appreciate your level headed view of this, I apologize if I am coming across as a grump. As my name implies, I have been a gamer for over 30 years and grew up with Mario and Sonic. I would want nothing more than to be proven wrong with Sonic Frontiers and for it turn out to be an excellent game.
However them holding the review embargo until the day before release shows to me how confident they are in their game. God of War Ragnarok released it's review embargo several days prior to launch.
So to quickly bullet point my worries: 1.) Sonic Teams track record 2.) Review embargo until the day before launch 3.) My eyes and ears (what I've seen and heard of this game)
@Orpheus79V The pop in is present in all systems, not just the Switch. I can't wait for the digital foundry video on this game from the gameplay on the Switch I've seen it looks like 600p docked, 30 fps (but dips all over the place). Also you are admitting on a public form that you either pirated an unreleased game or that you bought an illegally obtained copy. Either way not very smart
@Snatcher My reasoning I doubt they will stick the landing and we are heading for another Forces or Boom, is the following: 1.) Every gameplay video I've seen (and I've watched the leaked Switch footage too) looks janky. Massive pop-in on all system, janky animations, and terrible level design (nothing seems to have a rhyme or reason)
2.) The cinematics look to be of subpar quality and there isn't much story as far as I can tell. Robotnik puts a device on an ancient pillar to gain his polygon robot army but gets sucked in.
3.) The enemies all look lame, you are fighting have rendered shapes, even the big bosses are very static and stay in place until you zoom up the one path they allow and auto attack their "face"
4.) I have watched hours worth of footage and it looks the exact same no matter which World they are on, the Cyber levels looks short and boring.
5.) Sonic Team has lost a huge amount of talent and haven't been able to pull it together to make an exciting Sonic game in years and sadly making the game bigger isn't go to be the saving grace.
@Snatcher You seem to be very selective then with who you are following for information about Sonic Frontiers because there are plenty of people who have played it and have many complaints about it.
I know the Switch is an after thought to EA but for a company that likes to make stupid amounts of money I am surprised the following from EA hasn't been ported to the Switch: The Simpson's Game Titanfall 2 Dante's Inferno Sims 4 Madden Mass Effect Trilogy Any Battlefield Game Mirror's Edge 1 and/or 2

@dil_power James Gunn has taken the reigns of the DC Universe movies, so I have a glimmer of hope. He did great work with Guardians of the Galaxy, and made a Suicide Squad movie that didn't suck
@MatthewTaranto The funny thing is, even from just SpongeBob, Nickelodeon has the budget to have given this game the same time, energy and money that Smash Bros got. But Nick is a cheap, cheap company who loves to get money off nostalgia alone. I mean look at the three Nickelodeon Racer games for further proof.
@WallyWest With a comment like that, I feel you haven't played Bayonetta 3. I did this morning for 4 hours and it handled the game just fine, 60 frames per second no less
I bought the Guardians of the Galaxy cloud version on the Switch and it was great. Never really had any internet issues while docked, handheld or out and about on my Phones 5g hotspot. So if you have garbage Internet don't do cloud gaming but if you have good to great Internet have fun.
@emj2010 Pokemon games are made for Children, they are not meant to be difficult in any form. The fact that adults enjoy playing Pokemon games is not ever going to influence the Pokemon company
@ketrac So you are in favor of a semi open World Pokemon game? Mario Odyssey had good performance due to: Low amount of characters on screen at once Smaller semi-open world environments No Multiplayer Developed by a team who has made many console games for generations, this is Pokemon Teams third outing.
@Baler Sonic Worlds got between a 6/10 and 7/10 on most publications at the time. I think the main critiques were that it didn't feel like a Sonic game and felt like a cheap imitation of Mario Galaxy. Also being that it came out on the Wii U (a failure of a system) many publications at the time were quite harsh to a lot of its exclusives.
@LikelySatan What I've seen of it doesn't look promising, it looks confused and will most likely be riff with bugs and poor performance. Sonic Team has not proven themselves in over a decade that they can make a big Sonic game that doesn't crash and burn

Re: Sonic Frontiers Lead Composer Upset By Leaks, Says It's "Ruining The Experience For Others"

It came out on Switch the same day as the Xbox and PC. So it wasn't a solely focused Switch port

Ok well for a better example, Persona 5 Royal loads are extremely short, a few seconds.

This game was made with more powerful hardware in mind, but somehow their team was competent enough to make a great port
Re: Sonic Frontiers Lead Composer Upset By Leaks, Says It's "Ruining The Experience For Others"
@Snatcher
It wasn't made for more powerful consoles it's using an upgraded engine from 2005

Please watch some early gameplay, it doesn't sound the same as always. It's very tame compared to all other Sonic games
