And that's not an opinion, the article legitimately is "Here's a product, buy it".
There is not much you can say in literally 5 sentences. It's a commercial. If you legitimately think this is acceptable as a NEWS article, I would suggest limiting yourself to Nintendo's official Amazon page, as then you'd have many "articles" to read all the time.

This is a news site. I want news. Ads are okay. Affiliate links are okay. These are acceptable because I can still read news. This? This ain't an article.

@Mdhoover again, they make money off of readers. They make money on game affiliate links. Because of this, low quality commercials like this have no excuse.

Even if they did, as the largest media franchise, yes, they can afford a bigger team. Every issue the game has can be solved with a bigger team.

@BenAV again, if you liked the OG, it would take very little effort to build on that. You could beat the OG 100% in like 2hrs, on rails, few models and animations, few environments, VERY easy to give quality to

It doesn't need a bunch of different animations or even tons of pokemon. The original had what, 100? And on rails, too. Not too hard a game to make compared to most modern titles I feel

Just a reminder that eventually, just like in Gen 4 and 5, all online functionality will be shut down in gens 6 and 7 eventually as old features are replaced, meaning that you won't be able to "Just play the old games" exactly like you should.

This would not be as much an issue if the prices for these replacements weren't higher than the original.

@entrixx A little. Aside from what is mentioned in the post, I think "guaranteed" pokemon i.e. your starters and legendaries cannot be Shiny. Presumably event shinies will still exist, and also I assume that you can still breed for shiny starters

There are even people who will COMPLAIN about the other side without directly replying. What hurts most about all this controversy is that each side insists the other does not care about pokemon, and that only their own side are the real fans, when in reality, both sides really do care, but in different ways imo

It's hard to find the appearances remotely appealing after playing recent switch games like Luigi's Mansion 3 or Link's Awakening. I'd go as far to say that even many Wii U titles looked better, and it's not a hardware issue either when you take a peek at BOTW

@Trajan But it was controversial, as though it appealed to Kojima fans and people who liked slow burning stories, it did NOT appeal to very casual action players who expected a more fast paced experience. People who bought into the hype for the sake of hype.

Because of this, I find it to be a good baseline on how controversial games should be judged, or rather, how we can expect them to be received on sites like Metacritic. A legit good game with a review bomb controversy will look like Death Stranding. Though I am 100% aware a great deal of SwSH's reviews are false, to the extent they reach, I feel they are not ALL false, and I think the game fell short in many areas.

If a game is constantly made out by toxic people to be bad for almost half a decade, and tons of people say it's bad on release, a game really has flaws if it does worse.

@SirlyWhirly I watched someone play through it. It's a short game.

There are critics who gave Fallout 76 a score over 90/100. That game is legitimately painful to play and doesn't deserve anything higher than a 20. People's opinions aren't worth more just because they use affiliate links.

Don't make or take this personally. It's a product, not a person.

That's not a review bomb if they are listing actual reasons, NL. Though some reviews most certainly are not valid, one can easily find examples on that on both sides with ones that denounce "haters" and ones that denpunce "shills"

3.8 on Metacritic and all the flak they've gotten? Hard pass. Not even Death Stranding did that poorly and people made video essays on why that game was bad for 3 years.

I get you need to make money, and I am not against this practice, but I'm just saying that even if a game gets a good review, the critic might be influenced by more than the content of the game.

Which is why what is SAID in reviews is more importabt than the number. You guys weren't exactly glowing with verbiage yourselves.

@BenAV The shortest average playtime according to howlongtobeat.com, a site that collects user submitted completion data, is Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, at 25 hours. 15 hours is significantly shorter

Oh man, I am H Y P E D beyond belief. It's been one hell of a journey, my friends, over 5 years of the gold standard for Indie content.

It's pretty reductive towards the opinions everyone has here, and I think you guys will genuinely enjoy actually voicing how you feel about the content rather than how other people feel about it

@NIN10DOXD 13-15 hours from what reviewers are saying, which is about half what most of the Pokemon games have. Aside from Gen 4, which as many can vouch for, was reeeeaaaally slow. I love it, but for the content the main story had, 40 hours is very long

@Spoony_Tech They usually haven't, which is fine imo, as generally new pokemon additions to the overall collection are generally an objective upgrade, and offer some new experiences in the new environments even if it's the same gameplay I enjoy. As different an experience as it is, Mario Maker 2 is a good example of why simply tossing in a few new things to a base formula over and over like multiplayer levels do is a real fun thing.

Primarily in this case, however, I have issues not with stagnation, but regression, as the article briefly touches upon: While there are some QOL improvements, they still went back in a few areas, so while this title DID change from USUM, it didn't move forwards, I feel.

Look, I'm not gonna insult you for buying the game. You care about pokemon. So do I. Please at least have the decency not to insult me for NOT buying it. It's okay to criticize a company. It's okay to want a franchise you enjoy to have quality products. It doesn't make anyone a whiner or entitled, there's a reason news sites like this even exist. @Silly_G Nah, you're on point. The biggest point of controversy is that it's possible that never again will all of a person's favorites be in a single game, not exactly that there isn't a national dex.

If someone, for example, wanted a team of specific mustachio'd pokemon, it's possible that no single game would have Probopass, Whiscash, Kricketune, Drampa, Alolan Golem, AND Alakazam included.

I wish people wouldn't take it so personally and devolve into insulting each other over the whole deal, tho.

Look, we just don't want a good game to be ruined in a few months because it's owned by a super corporation that cares more about quantity than quality
