Re: Soapbox: To Me, Mario Maker 2 Is Nintendo's Best, And Most Disappointing, Sequel Ever

YourGoodFriendly

Biggest qualms for me are the online support being real laggy and the fact that leaderboard based rewards exist for level popularity. MM1 had the same issue where a kid in Mississippi could make the best level ever, but it would be overshadowed by a streamer's Hot Garbage he made as a joke. And not by a little bit, either. How many of the top level makers are streamers/youtube based personalities?

THAT SAID, I feel aside from 1 or 2 features that are caused mainly by limitations of the console, this is objectively the better game. Gameplay wise, what did we lose aside from 100 Mario Challenge and a high level cap? Some glitches, mostly? Even amiibo costumes' gameplay can be simulated with OTHER items, and though I really loved them and would like to see them again, they are mainly visual and only for 1 theme.

Re: Nintendo Will Reportedly Fix Joy-Con Drift For Free And Refund Customers Who Paid

YourGoodFriendly

Cool, but repairing them individually is a temporary fix. This was a good move, but not entirely the move that should have been made, which would be fixing the error entirely as soon as reports started coming in within months of the Switch's release, rather then waiting until legal action cropped up.

Don't get me wrong, I like this, but it still seems a bit annoying that it wasn't until the company had a risk that they decided to do anything about the problem.

And the issue isn't "I want new joycons!", barely anyone is saying that and people who paint everyone who has an issue with this as that are strawmanning, the issue is, I want to know that Nintendo will continue to make quality products in order to satisfy customers, not ignore them until profit margins are in danger

basically what I am saying is, they are fixing them for free, that's great, fantastic even, but that wasn't on the table until AFTER they got in trouble, and frankly, I shouldn't ever have to get them repaired at all. Aside from third party controllers, I have NEVER in my decades of gaming had an issue, and seeing how common it was shows that it's not an issue of lack of care.

Re: Game Freak Isn't Reusing 3DS Models In Pokémon Sword and Shield

YourGoodFriendly

@Kimyonaakuma The amount of work put in doesn't have an impact on the quality of the games, it's quality of work. If I spent 2 years remaking Pong but it was worse than the original, I shouldn't get praised for that.

People "complain" because it's okay to criticize a product. If someone is insulting you for liking it, that's one thing I won't support, but someone pointing out that compared to other new Switch Games and compared to earlier Pokemon Games that these HQ graphics are sub par, and very little reason to remove the point of the games, then that's fine.

Re: Game Freak Isn't Reusing 3DS Models In Pokémon Sword and Shield

So when are they going to show us the high quality models and animations instead of these Wiiware ones?

And again, if it was a time issue, they would just patch em in later.

And why do graphics matter? Gameplay first and foremost. If you have to sacrifice a core gameplay mechanic to try and make better graphics (and fail at that), you should aim for a different art style.

Re: Rewind Feature And Two NES Games Are Coming To Nintendo Switch Online In July

YourGoodFriendly

Free games are free games, but I'm waiting for quality to improve. A lot of Switch games seem to use P2P connections, so I'm wondering what Online money is going towards if not to at LEAST some quality games.

I was hoping that Tetris 99 was the advent of a more modern library being introduced to the service a la Playstation Plus, but it seems that we're gonna be just as disappointed for a bit as PS+ users, except instead of paying $60 for bargain bin modern games, it's $20 for bargain bin 80's games.

I'd hope for SNES games soon, but the NES had like 800 titles on it.

Re: Random: Was Shantae The Half-Genie Hero Just Teased For Smash Bros. Ultimate?

YourGoodFriendly

@arsoneycad She didn't even break top 10 on the smash ballot iirc.
And having some nintendo exclusivity isn't my point. Name an official Nintendo game not made by nintendo. She's not considered a Nintendo Character. She's not considered an Icon of any Nintendo era like Snake, Banjo, or Dragon Quest's hero. And yes, I know there are 3rd party characters, but they are from games much more well received than Shantae. Seriously, go look at sales numbers and try arguing how recognizable she is in comparison to other characters.

And there IS a basis for spirits not becoming fighters. Piranha Plant had NO spirit before being introduced, the nipper evolved into Petey. No DLC character has had a spirit before being introduced.

Don't get your hopes up, and don't get others' hopes up: You're just gonna make yourselves sad. Just be patient for the next game.

Re: Random: Was Shantae The Half-Genie Hero Just Teased For Smash Bros. Ultimate?

YourGoodFriendly

No spirit nor assist trophy will become a fighter in Ultimate imo, and I think people who really think otherwise are gonna be disappointed.

She's on the table for future entries, I think, but not this one. Her games are cult classics with a passionate fanbase, but I mean, even Shovel Knight had more representation. Think logically, why Shantae over anyone else? her last game was 3 years ago. She doesn't have huge classic appeal for Nintendo as her first game was in 2002 and was the ONLY nintendo exclusive Shantae, which may I add, according to devs, sold very poorly. The second entry wasn't available for another 8 years and also released on MOBILE. Not handheld, I am talking the iPhone.

It's not happening this game. Maybe in the future, but the reason she's only a spirit and nothing more is that she's not as big a character as her fans think she is. Nothing against them, but objectively, it's not an incredibly well known franchise

Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?

YourGoodFriendly

@KBuckley27 People did not complain about reused things before because they didn't cut pokemon before with the reasoning that they had to make new animations.

The point isn't just that the textures, models, and animations are not new, that's fine, that's what we've expected since the HD models were made for X and Y and future games. The point is that there is cut content that was supposedly cut because of how difficult it would be to make new models, textures, and animations for 800+ pokemon, but they didn't make new models, textures, or animations, for ANY!

Imagine if every day you got a bag of fries from a restaurant, and every week the bag got bigger, and every month the fries tastier. Imagine then that one time, you get a SMALLER bag, and when you ask about it, the restaurant owner says it's because they are higher quality fries. When you bit into a stale week old fry and find out it's not actually higher quality, you really wonder why you actually got a smaller bag.

Re: Junichi Masuda Releases Official Message About Limiting Sword And Shield's Pokédex

YourGoodFriendly

Pokemon games are about the pokemon. We've had content cut before, and ya know? I could have stood it because we had new features. From adding new pokemon, to new things like Z Moves, mega Evolutions, Alolan forms.
But I draw the line at the core of the game. The Pokemon. Call me toxic or whatever, I really don't mind your opinion, but I feel that when Pokemon as a series no longer is about becoming attached to your pokemon or about "Catching Them All", that's where I think the line should be drawn.
Maybe I could be a lil more appreciative if we saw some new content, but we see pokemon getting bigger, the same quality of animation, and graphics that look more akin to late Wii games than what we've seen on the Switch.
If it's a size issue, I am sure people would buy the games if they were stylized to look like late gameboy, even DS titles with pixel art. People play games for gameplay, not amazing 3D models, and to use that as an excuse while also having had to downsize models to fit on the 3DS and having unused animations for all pokemon and remaking textures over and over with major bloat on a HANDHELD title, while also barely having a step up on an exponentially more powerful system seems like a copout.

I'm not saying this out of spite for the series, or Game Freak, but because I love the series, and I want to see more of it. Not less.

Re: Tweet Analysis Reveals Controversial Pokémon Cull Has Fans Evenly Split

YourGoodFriendly

I don't think someone tweeting #BringBacknationalDex is neutral. In any other context, I would agree that it could be neutral to only tweet a hashtag, i.e. #pokemon, but in this case, the hashtag itself conveys a kind of emotion that the AI ignored because this would be an exceptional case.

I also think it's weird to support a culling. Games before have restricted what pokemon could be obtained at what point via transfer. People wanting a new experience would still get a new experience, the focus would still be on the base pokemon until the main game was complete, and balancing could be solved by simply reducing how powerful pokemon could be upon transfer. Indifference makes sense, but to actually support it seems... intentionally contrarian.
