Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Straight Up Fails In Just One Respect: Accessibility

A really well written article covering a real problem in Nintendo’s first party games.

+1 from me, though, for those that have already mentioned visual impairments. I’m colourblind and long sighted and often have difficulty with small text on the Switch screen, and anything that’s colour coded. Other developers, again as already mentioned, go to amazing lengths nowadays to cater for people who aren’t perfectly able. Nintendo just carries doing its own thing, like it always does

You can add Civilization VI to that list. One of the first games I bought when I got my Switch Lite and, sadly, pretty much unplayable for me.

I’m very surprised that Nintendo didn’t make it a compulsory design feature for games going through QA for Switch to have either font scaling, or automatic switching when in docked or handheld mode. The flip side of this is that some games designed with handheld use in mind don’t look their best when on a big TV.

Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

WiteWulf

I picked up a brand new WiiU pro controller in January (off work with a broken leg for three months so planned a play-through of Breath of the Wild). The left stick was drifting by mid-March, admittedly after 5-6hrs of use a day, 5 days a week. I'll give this guide a go and see if it makes any difference to that device.

Re: Mini Review: Superliminal - A Mind-Bending Visual Puzzler With A Powerful Message

Bought this based on early previews I saw, this review, and the launch discount (it was cheaper than on PS4!). I liked the way that some puzzles have more than one solution, but the core mechanic of the game and the most enjoyable part, the perspective puzzles, seem to run out towards the middle of the game. I found myself frustratedly trying everything in the room by trial and error to continue, which spoiled the flow of the story somewhat. The "message" is pretty nice and shouldn't really offend everyone, and it's pretty predictable, to be honest. My one real complaint is that the framerate is pretty poor in some places on my Switch Lite, a docked Switch may fare better. It's fun, challenging in places, but a little too short. 7/10

Re: Sony Blocks PS4 Fortnite Players From Using Their Account On Nintendo Switch

I'm absolutely furious with Sony for being the instigator of this, but also quite annoyed with Epic for not making it clear when I linked our PSN ID to our Epic account that this locking would take place and we'd not be able to access progress or paid-for content on non-Sony platforms. The Epic web page on unlinking accounts prophesies doom and destruction should one take that path and says:

"Platform Locks on Fortnite cannot be circumvented, even by replacing one connected account with another."

I'm waiting to hear from someone who actually goes through the process of unlinking their PSN account, moving to Switch and seeing what's left intact afterwards.

Re: Kerbal Space Program Developer Reevaluating Proposed Wii U Port

WiteWulf

This is the right decision. The full fat version on Steam is a great game and updated regularly but the PS4 version is absolutely shocking: buggy (worse than the Mac port!), hard to see the UI on a TV screen and driving it with a joypad is an exercise in futility. I can't imagine a Nintendo port being any better.

Re: Minecraft Finally Digs Its Way Onto the Wii U eShop on 17th December

Good to see this finally out on the Wii. Very popular game in our household but, as we've already spent £17 on the PC version and £5 on the iOS version unfortunately I can't justify what will probably be another £20 on the Wii U.

Now if they'd managed to do it in 3D on the 3DS I'd have been queueing up to buy...
