Re: New Shots of Xenoblade Look Awesome

Vinsanity

Now that Nintendo's come out and started talking about the battle system - and that it kinda is just like Final Fantasy XII (not really real time, but not quite turn based, where you watch animations more than interact, and you have barely any control over your AI comrades) -, my enthusiasm for this title has just - poof - evaporated. It's going to be so disappointing if this isn't as good to play as it is to look at.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st May 2010 (Europe)

Vinsanity

I was really hoping - hoping against hope, I'm sure - that Konami would start dropping the SNES/Genesis Rocket Knight games on Virtual Console nowish. Y'know, to coincide with the new Rocket Knight for PSN? Kinda ride the coverage/awareness that THAT game has to build awareness for the VC re-releases? That would've been so cool, even if wasn't for US (my region). I'd love to see ANYWHERE in the world get those games.

Oh well, I can't be too pissed. I found out recently - via developer Golgoth's website - that the INCREDIBLE indie action game Noitu Love 2 is coming to Wiiware sometime in the future! That makes me happy.

Re: Review: Insmouse No Yakata (VB)

Vinsanity

I wonder if the Virtual Boy will show up on the 3DS...assuming that Nintendo does a handheld Virtual Console type thing. Which they should, because it's easy money. However, they suck at supporting the Virtual Console they currently have, so maybe they really don't want two of them.

If a handheld VC DOES show up on 3DS, I sincerely hope that Virtual boy games show up on it.

Re: OFLC Rating for Shadow of the Ninja Sneaks In

Vinsanity

Suh-weet! i've heard about this, and I think I even put in one of my own personal "Virtual Console games you'd like to see" lists in one of those threads here on the NL forums. It's basically 2 player Ninja Gaiden, and the VC could use more NES games. Charming, instantly fun, colorful, doesn't need the nunchuk plugged in and only 5 bucks? There should be hundreds of NES games on the damn service for christ sakes...

Thank you Natsume:) Can't wait till this makes it to the US, but Australia deserves far more early games. Those poor aussies always seem to get screwed with regards to game censorship and release dates...

Re: Monster Hunter Tri, Sin and Punishment Nowhere to Be Seen in UK Charts

Vinsanity

Does nintendo of europe advertise anything? Or are they like Nintendo of America, where they only shell out the dough to make commercials for their "blue ocean" games. Y'know - Personal Trainer: Cooking and Wii Fit and crud like that.

Granted, I've seen Monster hunter Tri ads on tv here in the 'states, but in FAR less quanities than those aforementioned game commercials. And on different channels, and late at night. They really aren't trying very hard to do right by their third parties, and frankly, it pisses me off. I don't understand how guys like Ubi Soft (Red Steel 2) and Capcom can keep throwing support at Nintendo's console when Nintendo doesn't seem to care about 'em.

On a related note, I personally can't wait for Sin & Punishment 2 to hit our shores:) That's a day one buy for me! though I know that it won't light up the US charts either.

Re: Capcom Will Give You 22 Games Before April

Vinsanity

I only bought Super SF IV so far. I need to get Tatsunoko VS Capcom still, and either Monster Hunter or Lost Planet, but not both. Probable MH3, since - lets face it - it could use the sales. Also, I don't like the fact that you can't join in-progress games in Lost Planet 2. That's ridiculous.

But Capcom rules:) Sure, they dump out the occasional misfire, like Dark Void and Spyborgs, but by and large, they've been THE Japanese publisher to beat this generation. I love 'em.

Re: Soon You May Be Able to Enter the MegaMan Universe

Vinsanity

that strapline is misleading. I though they meant Cryptic - as in the developers of Star Trek Online and Champions online - were making Mega Man Universe for Capcom:) Thank god I misread it; Cryptic doesn't strike me as a good studio.

Anyway, I'm hoping that MMU is Capcom's Littlebigplanet. A "Make Your Own Mega Man" game where gamers everywhere share their content. With unlimited levels, the name "Universe" would be nice and descriptive, no? Not to mention that Mega Man Powered Up - on frickin' PSP - pioneered that years before LittleBigPlanet was even announced...

Re: Don't Get Too Attached to 3DS Name, says Iwata

Vinsanity

3DS will be the final name. They said that the DS wasn't the final name for THAT handheld - they even trademarked the name "Nitro" and sent out dev kits for the "Nintendo Nitro" back in '04 - but then kept its "codename". Now the DS brand is too strong. Their next handheld will be called 3DS. It's too clever, and the DS brand just can't be stopped. They'd be foolish to change it...

Re: Review: Zombie Panic in Wonderland (WiiWare)

Vinsanity

Great warm-up for Sin & Punishment. Though I'm a little disappointed that it's single-screen shooting gallery like Cabal. I thought it would be more like "shoot, run forward, shoot", but it's still cool:) And gorgeous. It's so nice to see an actual, "effort went into this" sorta Wiiware game. Considering we've just come off of several weeks of cheaply done, forgettable puzzle games.

Re: Interviews: Shin'en Multimedia - Jett Rocket

Vinsanity

"Also we don't try to go for realism. We just try to make it look as beautiful as possible" - I frickin' LOVE that sentiment. I wish more developers thought that way. This is a day one purchase for me; everything Shin'En does grabs my attention ever since I got my hands on the incredibly impressive Iridion 2 for GBA. These guys are tech wizards on Nintendo consoles!

From the trailers, I'm hoping this has a sort of Sparkster meets Mario Galaxy vibe, with a main character that sorta looks related to Alex Kidd:) Not a bad combo...

Re: Review: Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love (Wii)

Vinsanity

I've heard that the combat in this game is quite reminescent of Valkyria Chronicles:) It's a must pick up then, though at least one character voice gets on my nerves (the cowgirl chick from all the promos).

I really think it's odd that NIS decided to throw the "special edition" with the dual voice tracks at the PS2 in 2010 and not the Wii, but eh. PS2 games are slightly blurry/muddy on modern HDTVs for some reason - a problem that the Gamecube, Xbox and PSX games played on the PS2 don't seem to suffer from. I'd rather suffer through some uneven voice acting than a consistently muddy picture. Wii version it is, then!

@Rerun: Thanks for mentioning that there's an art book available. I think I'll pick this up from NIS America's website now, and spring for the extra 10 bucks!

Re: Sega Bringing Gunblade NY and LA Machineguns to Wii

Vinsanity

I'm super over light gun shooters. I don't get why more publishers - especially SEGA, whose just porting most of these from weaker hardware - don't just do this for Wiiware. As a retail disc, I couldn't think of anything that would be more unattractive as a buy. But as a 10 dollar download I'd probably give it a shot. Oh well.

Oh and seriously, what's the point of the Virtual Console Arcade then? Put this stuff on THAT, Sega!

Re: Wii Least Connected of U.S. Consoles

Vinsanity

I blame it on a lot of things. Namely the fact that Nintendo doesn't advertise their online services - that's SORT OF A BIG ONE.

Though, their support for the Virtual Console sucks these days. Wiiware's even worse. There's often long, long stretches - weeks and weeks - where there's nothing worth a download. And even when there is, money becomes an issue. Since you can't sign in with a persistent account, must input credit card info manually everytime, and purchase "chunks" of virtual money - it's easy to feel ripped off, or shy away from it because of the clunkiness. Like when you paid 20 bucks to buy Cave Story, a 12 dollar game. (Even though Cave Story is awesome).

But who can blame them for not advertising? The Wii's online stuff is designed sooooo horribly. For example, the lack of media for games? In-excusable. Sure, there are game trailers on the Nintendo Channel, but then why the hell are the Nintendo Channel and Wii Shop Channels seperate things? Or the fact that you can download DS demos...but only from the Wii, even though the DS can go online. It's just horribly, lazily designed - and riddled with baffling decisions - all around.

And don't even get me started on the poor online performance in many wii games. Though I personally like playing wii games online; it's just simpler. Hop on, find a game, play some fun (quiet, grief free - thank you lack of voice headsets!) matches and get off. That's how online should be - serious multiplayer gaming is way better locally. But still, tons of games are unnecessarily difficult to connect to. I don't understand why more games don't have simple lobby systems - the DREAMCAST library figured that part out. Wii games usually just offer to find games for you, behind-the-scenes - that's TOO simplistic. And there are some big games - like Super Smash Bros. Brawl - that just perform terribly once you manage to connect:(

The thing that's really surprising is that over half of all Wiis are connected to the 'net. Half of 50 million + is still MORE than the 70% of the Xbox user base. That's shocking. That is REALLY shocking, especially when you consider how many wii owners only play crap like Just Dance and Wii Sports on the thing. Even though they'd probably eat up stuff like Pac Man if someone told them they could download it.

Re: Review: Mega Man 4 (Virtual Console / NES)

Vinsanity

This is the first NES Mega Man where they seemed to completely redo all the sprite work for the environments. The first three look similar, and the next three look substantially better. At least technically - you can say what you will about art. It always struck me weird then that they never updated the Mega Man sprite to go along with the beefed up, more vivid environments. ESPECIALLY since, it was about this time that Capcom did Mega Man: The Wily Wars on Genesis - which had completely updated art . Far better than the eventual Mega Man 7 on SNES, which made everything look too chubby. The genesis sprite set maintains the level of charm in the NES sprites, but are totally 16 bit and far more vivid. Never understood why Capcom ignored those great Genesis sprites for the rest of the series, and why their NES output started getting so inconsistent here. But it's still a game. The worst Mega Man game is better than most other games;)

Oh, and the GC Mega Man Anniversary Collection isn't bad at all. Sure it's less than ideal, and it's lazy for the developers that you can't flip the buttons, but c'mon! It's two buttons! It takes you 10 minutes to re-program your brain to handle it. It's no big deal:)

@Tatsuki: I think they did it because the 'A' button the GC pad is the "go-to" button on that system. That's why it's bigger, right? So they decided to put the shooting - the thing you do MOST in a Mega Man game - on the bigger button and put the jump on the other button. Even though the fact that the A button is bigger doesn't really cause anyone to have any sort of bias or preference towards it, and in the case of Mega Man especially, it's clearly backwards. But who knows? The studio that did that for Capcom - are they even around anymore? I mean, it's a decent collection. Great emulation (if you're complaining about colors and sfx, you're crazy), decent bonus features, neat interface, etc. But seriously - I don't think they did anything else...

Re: Review: Mega Man 4 (Virtual Console / NES)

Vinsanity

Mega Man 6 needs to get on the service. That game is underrated; the Rush Power Armor ideas were awesome - it's so cool to see them revisit it with Bass & Treble in Mega Man 10.

Or I could just go back to my old roomate and take back my Mega Man Anniversary Collection:) Damn my laziness!

Re: Fear the REAPER

Vinsanity

The concept art looks pretty compelling. Sorta reminds me of Vanillaware's stuff, but with creepy automaton/robot face mermaid things. Though I will say, he seems better suited to digital services.

Lets see what this looks like though. Bring it on!

Re: Talking Point: The Virtual Console's PAL Problem

Vinsanity

I gotta say Europe, I've always had a beef with your stupid PAL signal!

Anytime I've ever watched a british tv show, from the Office to the Mighty Boosh to Monty Python's flying Circus to Medieval to Dr.Who, it always looked... blurrier(?) than US shows. I wondered for YEARS why this was, and then I found about your crappy, stupid, useless PAL signal.

NTSC Rules!!!! What's wrong with your continent? Jump on board the NTSC bandwagon, along with Japan and Canada. PAL blows. Also, it results in some crappy and late gaming ports, apparently.

Re: Review: Avalon Code (DS)

Vinsanity

Excellent review. I found this for 9.99 at a Best Buy - one of those "bargain bins" for games they have to get rid of. Surrounded by crap like Babyz party, I felt compelled to "save it". Unfortunately, this review is right. It's gorgeous, and I think the hook with the actual book of prophecy was great. But it's a very bland game, and all the characters are annoying anime stereotypes with nothing charming or likeable about them. Unless you're 11 years old and think Inuyasha or Bleach is some sort of pinnacle of story telling, that is.

Matrix is still talented though - maybe they'll revisit thier old Alundra franchise on DS sometime. That game - well Alundra 2, I never played the first one - had much better pacing than Avalon Code, and was way more fun and charming.

Re: Teyon Announces Heavy Fire for WiiWare

Vinsanity

Looks pretty good, especially for Wiiware. Light gun games belong on downloadable platforms and should stay away from retail if you ask me. Wish it were a different genre though; maybe a strategy/shooter hybrid like a downloadable Valkyria Chronicles.

Re: Select Downloadable Games Available for Purchase on Nintendo's Web Site

Vinsanity

Hopefully they heard all that negative feedback from Cave Story's release. I mean, paying 20 bucks to buy it when it was 12 was lame. Maybe this means we're on the verge of some major change? Getting rid of Nintendo points would be awesome. Replacing it with REAL money, and creating an account that would keep track of your VC/Wiiware/DSi games would be ideal - basically, ripping off how the PSN works across PS3 and PSP.

Nah. This is NINTENDO we're talking about. I'm sure accc is right; if they change anything at all, they'll just change the denominations you can purchase at a time. But 100 pts at a time? I suspect they'll never go lower than 500, just because that means you'll still be buying more points than you could probably use. And that ultimately means more profit for them...

Re: La-Mulana Test Play 4 Video

Vinsanity

Nicalis is definitely Wiiware's top supporter. I hope they keep going after amazing, one-man games like Cave Story and La Mulana. Who knows? Maybe they'll get Battle Kid on Wiiware eventually, or the EXCELLENT Noitu Love 2: Devolution.

Google them if you've never heard of them. Better yet, go download NL2. It's only 10 bucks on Direct2Drive.

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - April 2010

Vinsanity

@SafariSuz: Yes, but Sunsoft - with the help of Gaijinsoft - is pretty keen on getting back into the western gaming market. That's why they've given us Blaster Master AND Blaster Master Overdrive nearly immediately thereafter. They're also actively looking in bringing over Ufouria and Mr.Gimmick as imports if 1up's podcasts are to be believed. If they're seeing some success and maintain this level of ambition, I'll bet they're bring us Waku Waku 7 eventually:)

@Outrun2sp; Blast you sir! I had the same link, though oddly with a different URL. Now you get all the credit Damn my laziness!

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th & 31st March 2010 (Japan)

Vinsanity

I wonder if Metal Gear 2 will make it out over here as an import? I'm certain it's not translated - OFFICIALLY - and Nintendo's stupid policy prevents third parties from radically altering a game's code (look at FF"2" on SNES). But you know Kojima would be cool with approving a fan translation, re-compiling the code, and throwing it up on the North American VC (and Europe). cross fingers That would be a hell of an import....

Re: Marines: Modern Urban Combat Deployed In June

Vinsanity

It's from Destineer so it probably sucks. But it looks far better than most all of thier other efforts combined. What really intrigues me is that the you can see health bars for your squadmates on the bottom left of the screenshots. I'm hoping that there's an interesting squad based mechanic, and this is more like Brothers in Arms or - dare I dream - Valkyria Chronicles on a budget than just an uninspired Modern Warfare ripoff. I'll be looking for a review...

I found some footage of it on Youtube. Ironically, the user is called "Playstation Network"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heJi-k9JXZ8

@GameAddict. That's interesting. I've never played Close Combat: First to Fight, so it's new to me. That's the same attitude I took with Rogue Trooper and I'm happy with that, though I remember hearing that that was received pretty well on Xbox. I don't remember reviews for First to Fight, but I can see now that IGN Xbox gave it an 8. That's encouraging...

Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - April 2010

Vinsanity

oh man, Waku Waku 7!?! AWESOME. I remember reading about that on hardcore gaming 101 - it sounds interesting. For a ten spot or less, I'd download it. C'mon import channel! In fact, I'm sure we'll get it - Gaijinworks/Sunsoft has shown a lot of interest in the VC. I was hoping we might see Ufouria or Mr.Gimmick soon, but hey - if Waku Waku is up there already to go, then bring it on!

Re: Review: Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Wii)

Vinsanity

This is one clunky game, but as an experience it's beautiful, sad and memorable. A must play for a very specific type of gamer (like me!), but definitely not everyone's cup of tea. Also, not enough was done in XSeed's localization - the dub is a little awkward, though the voices ain't bad, and the dialogue itself is great. Too many of the english actors overplay the copious, "..." in the script, so out of impatience, I've been playing through it with the Japanese vocals. Nice to have the option.

However, no changes were made from the Japanese version, which is a shame because - as I said - it's clunky. it's especially annoying to have no depth attached to the cursor, so if you pass it over a foreground object, Seto will quickly aim towards the screen as your cursor passes through it. It's like a mini seizure in tight corridors. I really wish they would've taken a few days/weeks to implement a bounding box tweak a la the Conduit - the bounding box here is a pain in the to get used to. Also, there should be an easy mode that turns off weapon breaks. There's a reason why roguelikes aren't a popular genre outside of your country, Japan...

Still, beautiful, sad and memorable. A really cool game if you're up for the clunkiness, and just want to experience this gorgeous personal adventure. Or wanna see just how bad an early spoiler can feel - man, I never wanted to leave that mall!

[Edit - I know it's only a minor spoiler, but it came as a shock to me when I played it and I'd like to preserve some of that surprise for our readership - James]

Re: Review: Red Steel 2 (Wii)

Vinsanity

They completely overhauled everything here, and it looks nearly as good as Borderlands visually. I gotta say, I really wanna give this a shot. I'll probably pick it up, though man....I just know that the Motionplus will be ill supported in the future. I don't wanna hurt Ubi Soft, but I just don't know if this is worth the investment.

Re: Ogre Battle 64 Hits Europe This Friday

Vinsanity

Wow. Holy eff. This is huge. Nintendo coaxing Square Enix to bust out one of thier (well, the Enix half at any rate) rarest games for a VC re-release. I really do have some hope for the future now. I'm not even that big of a strategy fan, but I will gladly snap this up should it hit on US shores soon...

Re: Might The Next Zelda Sense Your Vitality?

Vinsanity

I hope nothing uses this dumb peripheral. Has anyone here ever been to the hospital and have one of those clips on your finger? Talk about cumbersome - doing that while gaming is going to be retarded.

Nintendo's already misfired a few times this generation with their hardware (for example, having to have the Classic Controller tethered to the wii remote instead of making it stand-alone, wireless and CONVENIENT). Or not making Motionplus-enabled wii remotes thus far and phasing out the normal remotes, for that matter. The vitality sensor seems really frickin' stupid.

They would've been smarter to just have a grip on the handle of the wii remote that could sense your pulse, or on the wrist strap or something...

Re: Review: Tornado Outbreak (Wii)

Vinsanity

I Gamefly'd this, based on nothing more than the knowledge that this studio is comprised of ex-Sucker Punch staffers. People who worked on Rocket (N64) or Sly Cooper (PS2) may have worked on it? Surely I must give it a shot. Unfortunately I was pretty underwhelmed by the title; even though I realize that it probably never had major support and was always destined as a bargain title. Good rental though - I really hope that their next game is better though. Out of Sony's "Big Three" platformer studios, Insomniac and Naughty Dog spurred two excellent sister studios into existence (High Impact Games and Ready at Dawn respectively). If Sucker Punch is giving us Loose Cannon, it's pretty underwhelming. Compared to the debut titles from those two studios any way...

Re: Rathalos Figurine Swoops in on Monster Hunter Preorders

Vinsanity

@Raylax: Thanks for the info. Should I ever head to the UK, I'll make sure I know where NOT to go for my gaming needs;) Glad to know that we're not the only ones who suffer - misery loves company, after all!

I guess I should just cave and start getting used to combing through ebay listings for gamestop-exclusive swag. There's gotta be a better way to get this stuff and not have to get it through Gamestop. Wish you could just preorder on the publisher's website and get the swag that way. What good ARE you, Capcom.com?

Re: Rathalos Figurine Swoops in on Monster Hunter Preorders

Vinsanity

Do you Europeans have an evil, giant corporate equivalent to Gamestop here in the 'states (and Canada)? Y'know the type; the kinda places where, if you ask the corporate tool/employees there to recommend a game, they don't have an honest answer. They just regurgitate whatever uber mainstream, safe bet, dime-a-dozen, creatively bankrupt military FPS that Activision's currently paying them to push on consumers at the moment?

I'm just wondering because, over here, all the cool preorders are somehow Gamestop exclusives, and it's a pain-in-the-. If you want all the cool swag or neat DLC, you have to preorder through Gamestop these days. sigh

I hope that NOA's Monster Hunter Tri preorder plans DON'T involve that horrendous company. I really, really do...

Re: New Diner Dash Screenshots

Vinsanity

@brandonbwii: I hope you're right about the next Bonk game. It looks horrible, so I really hope they "take their time with it" anyway.

You know Hudson isn't even developing that one? They gave it to some random US studio - Pi Studios - and it shows. It's got a horrible color palette/art style, horrible music, horrible animations - it just doesn't look good at all. I realize they've worked with studios like Backbone for Bomberman Live in the past, but Backbone's good, and has worked with Japanese studios before. Pi Studio's work on Bonk: Brink of Extinction - thus far at least - looks like a turd smeared on that franchises' track record.

Hudson can delay it's release for as long as they want if you ask me.

@Stuffgamer: Exactly. Battlefest is exactly what you guessed it to be. Which is good. Bomberman Blast isn't bad, but any game that touts "Mii integration" is stupid on some overt level, trying to appeal to uber casuals. It's annoying as hell to be denied all those great options from Live/Ultra, and it's like rubbing salt in a wound when you see someone playing not as a Bomberman, but as their stupid Miis. Getting a version of Live/Ultra would be nice.

And I'm with you with the PSN. Except for the new Mega Man games, and eventually Sonic 4 - they belong on Nintendo hardware imo. I also seem to prefer games on wiiware than PSN, but I love the Playstation storefront so much more. I wish the 360 hardware didn't suck so bad and I didn't have to shun the system though (I went through 4 360's. I'm done giving them a chance until they redesign their crap hardware), because the games on XBLA are best out of the 3 though. I mean c'mon; originals like Shadow Complex and Castle Crashers can't be beat. Nor can the HD remakes of Perfect Dark and Banjo. It's the exact opposite of their crappy retail library; there's not an uber mainstream, creatively bankrupt, "realistic military" shooter anywhere on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Re: Cave Story to Cost 1200 Wii Points

Vinsanity

OMG I hate Nintendo. I spent my last wii points last week getting tomena sanner. I figured I could use 'em all up because there's no way they'd make this more than 1000 points. If Rage of the Gladiator is 1000 points, and stuff like Ghost Slayer is 600, then there's NO WAY Cave Story will be more than 1000, I said.

Why the hell would they do that? Just push it to 1000 Wii Points. Now they KNOW people will purchase 20 bucks worth of points - lining their pockets more - if they're going to buy a game barely worth more than 10. Greedy.

Stupid Cave Story. Should've made stuff like boss rush mode DLC. I don't care about that. If they took out those "special features" it would easily be 1000 points.

This is bull. I am SO torn because I know this is a good game and I wanna play/DL it. But this is bull. Not Nicalis'/Pixel's fault, I'm sure. This type of crap has NOA's/Reggie's smell all over it. I may not even get this now; I hardly every spent 20 bucks on Wii Points at a time.

@buffalobob: Sean's right though. Don't defend Nintendo. If they wanted to make things easy, they would SAVE your account info to your wii so that you didn't have to put your information again every time you went to make a purchase. The Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace and Playstation Network - ESPECIALLY the PSN, since you don't convert real money to made up Nintendo/Microsoft funds - are far more "user friendly" than Nintendo's supposed "blue ocean focused" digital storefront.

Not to mention that their "expanded audience" doesn't know about the Wii Shop Channel or great games like Cave Story. The only people who support these titles are actual gamers, the very same people Nintendo is hurting with this bull. I mean, that's common sense at this point. Those types of people only buy Wii Sports or Wii Fit for their wiis and never buy anything ever again. Ironic, since simpler games like Pac-Man and the rest of the stuff on Virtual Console would connect most with these people. But if Nintendo were serious about reaching that market they'd advertise these services. They run commercials for VC games in Japan - so why not here? Oh that's right; 'cuz NOA is far too greedy to spend $$$ on an ad campaign. They'd rather keep these things secret.

Re: Review: Seiken Densetsu 3 (Super Nintendo)

Vinsanity

@KeeperBvK: I never understood why the whole series got so much love. I've played it. Meh. The combat system is obnoxious; every strike draining stamina? Who thought that was a good idea? It just gives combat a weird flow. There are so many better action-RPG's from this era if you ask me. Why didn't Ys get this love?

I mean, I'll gladly admit that they're gorgeous and have some nice tune-age. And I'm sure Multiplayer is a major factor for those who champion these games (just like with SEGA's Gain Ground). I just personally don't get it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th March 2010 (Europe)

Vinsanity

I find Rondo of Blood a tad overrated, but that's mainly because I've played the superior PSP remake, Dracula X Chronicles. Still, I gladly plopped down my 9 bucks to DL it on the VC this wekk. In my mind, supporting import releases like that means we'll get stuff like Ufouria and Gimmick someday - games I believe you European Nintendo fans actually got back in the day.

Re: Interviews: Steve Lycett - Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing

Vinsanity

I hope SEGA and Sumo Digital keep up their professional relationship. Outrun 2 was awesome, and every Outrun they've done since has been just as good. Behind Burnout 3, it was the best racer on Xbox1. Sonic & SeGA All Stars Racing is clearly their best game yet, and it's the best "SEGA game" I've played in a long, long time.

They get it - the fact that SEGA stood for (at their best) flashy, eye popping games that were pick up and play. They really understand their arcade background. This doesn't feel like a western game that SEGA game is publishing (like Alpha Protocol or the Conduit), this feels like it belongs with SEGA.

I hope these guys get to make a sequel, or a Sonic-only racer or something. A new Sonic R from these guys would be great.

Re: Review: Calling (Wii)

Vinsanity

I'm very disappointed that Calling is getting such mediocre reviews. A slow-paced, creepy horror/adventure title seems like a PERFECT fit for motion controls.

Oh well - I still have to check out Silent Hill on Wii anyways...

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th March 2010 (North America)

Vinsanity

Next week is Cave Story, so I'm saving my points up. If I wasn't, Rondo of Blood would be tempting...

Except I already have the EXCELLENT Castlevania Dracula X PSP title, which has it as an unlockable. It's an okay game, but the PSP remake really thrashes it. It's one of the best 2.5D games on the platform, and that's saying something since PSP also hosts Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, Hammerin' Harry and Sonic Rivals 2.

Anyway, I still need to pick up Max & the Magic Marker:) I wish Nintendo either a)priced more things less than 10 bucks, or b)didn't force us to buy things in 10, 20, 30 dollar chunks at a time.

Re: Review: Sonic & Knuckles (Virtual Console / Sega Mega Drive)

Vinsanity

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is serious contender for best platformer - and best game - of the 16 bit era. That's all you need to know.

Though since SEGA re-releases their games so often, I really don't know if I can rebuy this AGAIN. I have the Gamecube Sonic Mega Collection (and GEMS Collection) sitting on my shelf y'know? Am I really lazy enough to get a downloadable, instantly playable version instead...

probably, actually:) Eventually anyway; I can put it off for awhile though.

Re: Review: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing (DS)

Vinsanity

I gotta say that Outrun actually is in there in spirit. If you unlock the Virtua Fighters as racers, Akira and Jacky drive around in the car from Outrun:)

This game is fantastic. Sumo digital nailed the racing model on every SKU (I own the Wii version, and played the demos for the DS and PS3 SKU), and the SEGA style is in full effect. It even has some of the music from Sonic R! Also known as some of the best music ever put to disc - Richard Jaques from Travellers' Tale is one of the most underrated game composers of all time:D

The wii version is awesome, and better than Mario Kart Wii because it's much MUCH better balanced and features more content and better visuals. But Mario Kart DS is still the best in that series; I'm happy with it as is. I needed a cart racer on Wii, but if I need another one for DS, I'll happily pick this up.

Then again...ModNation Racers IS coming to PSP as well as PS3...

Re: Want Kid Icarus? Hey, Just Ask

Vinsanity

What's the point? Nintendo is infamous for ignoring what everyone says and what everyone else is doing. They live in thier own stupid bubble world. If they don't know about the stink fans have been making for YEARS now about a new g-damn Kid Icarus for Wii, then what hope do we have now?

Stupid, ignorant Nintendo...
