Re: Nintendo Download: 21st January 2011 (Europe)

Vinsanity

capcom's arcade games are actually a pretty nice boost to the Virtual Console, though the 800 point price is killer. These should be cheaper, for sure. But Black Tiger is rad. Sonson was fun. I hope they keep it up.

I'd also like some other guys to knock out their late 80's/early 90's arcade games now. Like Konami, who signed a deal with Microsoft to put arcade games on Game Room. Clearly, THEY don't care much whether or not gamers download these in droves. I'd like to see Square-Enix do so as well, since they own Taito's back catalog, and I wanna play Rastan!

Re: Feel the G-Force With New FAST - Racing League Screenshots

Vinsanity

I love Shin'en games:) Iridion 2 is the best schmup I've ever played behind Ikaruga. And Jett Rocket is an awesome old-school style platformer (I love his design. Harkens back to Alex Kidd and Micky from Ghost House). Anything these guys are doing, I'm there. And man are they filling a void on Wii with this. Besides Speed Racer - the movie tie in game - there's literally NO game on the Wii in the "futuristic super fast racing" genre! Where the eff IS F-Zero, anyway!?!

Hope Jett Rocket comes to 3DS. That would be sweet.

Re: Review: Doc Clock: The Toasted Sandwich of Time (WiiWare)

Vinsanity

ROFL. I can't help but laugh at that exchange of dialogue NintendoLife chose to show off as a good example of the banter between the two. Not for the jokes per se, but because the bag of goodies is called, "Mr. Sacks". Ahahahaha.

Yes, I know I am immature.

This is a shame. The game looked promising, but that video review embedded in the comments, as well as Nintendolife's (sorry NL, but video reviews are SO much more helpful because you can see the game for yourself in action) paint a pretty grim picture.

Oh well, no great loss. I'm saving my Nintendo Points for La Mulana, FAST Racing League or MotoHeroz anyway. Whichever lands first.

Re: There's a Limit on Transferring Software from One 3DS to Another

Vinsanity

I'm cool with that. I'm actually happy that Nintendo is going through with this biz. But putting a limit on it is perfectly fair. Giving away copies of this thing to other hardware with no limits is basically a big ol' WELCOME sign to pirates. So this is fair. Just to move software from one system to another should you upgrade. Perfectly fair.

Re: Rabbids Prepare to Invade 3DS with Travel in Time

Vinsanity

Well, Rabbids in Time had a substantial 2.5D portion on the Wii. A good chunk of the hub worlds were done in sidescrolling fashion, as were several minigames. So I don't think this will be THAT different from the Wii game. Seems like it'd be a great game to bring to the 3DS though, so that's great.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Vinsanity

I dig this game, but I have been having more fun with sonic colors and kirby's epic yarn this holiday season. They're just better 2.5D games if you ask me. Retro's game has looser controls, and certain...oddities to it that seemingly advertises the fact that they've never made a platformer before. For example, you have to hit & hold the jump button again at the height of DK's jump to get a "high bounce" off an enemy. In most games, you just have to hold the jump button while you jump. It's annoying. The roll too seems just short enough to cause you to get hurt on the last enemy in a line of enemies - though at least that is easily remedied with diddy ('cuz if Diddy's on your back, you can roll as long as you waggle the controller).

The loose controls, and the downright evil enemy placement, just make it a less enjoyable game in my opinion. There are definitely parts of the game that are of that "artificially difficult" variety; where you're definitely going to get hurt or die the first time you go through a level. Instead of being challenging, but having a chance to succeed your first time. Though I still like DKC Returns, and it still looks and sounds fantastic. I just really dig Kirby and Sonic more, since they're also gorgeous, sound great, and are just way more fun.

Glad Retro's working on DKC now though. I'd love to see what they do with DKC Returns 2.

Re: Review: Raving Rabbids Travel in Time (Wii)

Vinsanity

+10000 points for Nintendolife, since they referenced Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in the intro. Everyone knows that series is the superior 80's/90's time travel movie...sorry Back to the Future:)

Anyway, I agree. Where is Rayman? And screw Rayman Origins. That looks stupid. Rayman literally looks like a moron, and his stupid friend what-his-face (Globox) is also an idiot. Rayman 2 is one of the greatest action-adventures/platformers/character action games (pick your poison) ever made. Ubi should really make another run at making a game like that again. Got nothing against the Raving Rabbids, but a successor to Rayman 2 would be preferable.

Re: Review: Goemon's Great Adventure (Nintendo 64)

Vinsanity

This game is amazing. Konami should get off their butts and make a contemporary XBLA/PSN HD remake of THIS, epic, title. It had four player co-op YEARS before LittleBigPlanet and New Super Mario (although you have to 100% complete the game, as it's a hidden bonus mode*. And 100 percenting this game is brutal).

Seriously Nintendolife, look it up. This game is technically 4 players, not 2. It's just that, unfortunately, very few people will ever see the four player mode. By the time my sister and I unlocked it, we were basically done with the game. Konami was bananas for not including it from the beginning.

Re: Smash Bros. Game Boy Demake is Amazing in Action

Vinsanity

@abgar: Well, NOA hasn't shut down fan games in the past. Titles like Star Fox Shadows of Lylat, Super Mario Bros. X and New Super Mario Bros 3 have all been allowed to exist, and none of them charge anyone to download and play. As long as Nintendo doesn't lose money, they don't seem to care. Which is something that they should be commended for.

Unlike Squaresoft, who shut down stuff like Chrono Resurrection.

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th December 2010 (North America)

Vinsanity

I don't get why more games don't re-release themselves as DSiware downloads, a la Little Red Riding Hood. I mean, there's no development cost at that point. Just scrunch it down (admittedly, that could be tricky) and give it to NOA for submission as a DSiWare download.

I'd much rather see stuff like Retro Game Challenge and Big Bang Mini pull a "double dip" than see the countless cheap, horrid iphone or web-based puzzle game rejects that are clogging up the store now.

Re: Lend Your Support to Get Renegade Kid's MUDDS on DSiWare

Vinsanity

Meh. I'd much rather have it come to 3DS. I wanna support developers like Renegade Kid, even though I hated all their games (the touch screen for free look is an awful, awful idea. All FPS's on DS should've learned from Doom era shooters - or Metroid Prime's lock on -, but apparently hand cramps and spazzy stylus scribbling is cooler?). I just know I'd never play this as is on DSiware. Sorry guys.

Re: Review: The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie (Super Nintendo)

Vinsanity

I was really hoping SOMEONE would rediscover this game in the wake of Epic Mickey's release:) Good review, Nintendolife.

Though I find it weird that you guys haven't yet reviewed Epic Mickey. Playing through it right now and I'm quite enjoying it (despite the camera issues and dreadful, text loaded, tutorial laden beginning hour or so). Considering that some sites have been savaging it with generically worded, "I haven't really played this for more than a half hour" type reviews, I'm looking forward to seeing more reviews from sites I generally trust, like Nintendolife. I mean, I know it's a pretty amazing game - once the training wheels come off and everybody starts shutting up, anyway - but we all know that a few toxic reviews can unfairly paint a negative image of a great game, and doom it to commercial failure. The more fair reviews, the better. Get on it, Nintendo life!

Re: Ubisoft Sticks It to Michael Jackson: The Experience DS Pirates

Vinsanity

Developers should start planting anti-piracy versions of their games on torrent sites from now on. For example, a few weeks before a game comes out, start dropping tons of "Halo 4 LEAKED" (and various other names) torrents out on sites like the PirateBay.org. But really, it's just bug ridden crap, or has just a half of level one, or has vuvuzelas blasting over the soundtrack -- anything to discourage people from pirating more copies. After trying to obtain a game 3-4 times, all with different file names, and finding garbage torrents like that, you'd figured at least some pirates might just give up..

Great job Ubi Soft! Keep sticking it to those pirates. Cheap jack-offs. If they want to play it so badly, they should learn to be responsible with their money, grow up and be patient. Buy it later when it's much cheaper or just rent it. Anyone who is a true gamer, and really loves games, should gladly want to give their money to the talented people who make these titles for us to enjoy.

Re: No Love for Super Mario All-Stars in UK Top 20 Chart

Vinsanity

Man, what's up UK? I remember seeing lame first week sales stories for Epic Mickey, Sonic Colors, Enslaved and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow this quarter from you guys. Or was it Vanquish? Oh well - I'm sure you guys didn't turn out for that one in vast numbers either.

I gotta admit, I'm disappointed. Time was (back in '03) when you guys would swoop in and give a great game sales that it failed to net in the US. Like when Prince of Persia: Sands of Time tanked in the US, but the UK bought enough to greenlight a sequel (thank you, UK). Now you guys seem to be as bad as us uber-mainstream Americans who only seem to propel "Call of Duty 11" and "Madden 400" and "Assassin's Creed 2 Again" into the sales stratosphere.

Why won't real gamers come out in vast numbers to support great games these days?

Of course, I don't really care about Mario All Stars Wii. This is just lazy. If I wasn't relatively sure that it would actually become a collector's item someday, I'd skip it as well. This kinda crap is the reason people hate on Nintendo. It's just greedy and lazy, and really - this should just be on the Virtual Console.

Re: Review: Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest (DS)

Vinsanity

Someone needs to make a hack n slasher that's engaging in single player. Not a single damn one - not Gauntlet, Untold Legends, Diablo, Dark Alliance, Torchlight or anything else - can avoid the monotonous gameplay without multiplayer. Can we PLEASE move away from the "click on target to kill" crap from the old PC games that we all base these top down hack n' slashers off of? Can SOMEONE put in a decent combat system? I'm not asking for full blown top down God of War here, but a throw and a counter move would certainly help, as would some genuinely varied enemies/enemy classes. And more dynamic environments with traps and stuff.

This genre should've evolved by now, shouldn't it? Why hasn't any game in the genre provided more engaging stuff than Midway's (admittedly excellent at the time) old Voodoo 3DFX powered Gauntlet Legends arcade machine? (And the also awesome at-the-time N64 and Dreamcast ports)

Re: Latest Iwata Asks Opens Eyes to Nintendo's Tough Standards

Vinsanity

might as well just stay up till 5 in the morning like me, THEN go to sleep after the meeting...in secret (shhhh - NCL doesn't need to know)

But whatevs, it's worth it, Retro! I'm playing through Epic Mickey right now and there are some janky elements in that game. It's still good, but it has it's problems (it's far too dialogue heavy, the 2D reticule is easily confused in 3D, the dpad camera controls suck, and there are too many fetch quests and not enough areas of focused gameplay like MickeyJunk Mountain - be on the lookout for discarded Magical Quest and Mickey Mousecapades carts on that level!). I can only imagine if Nintendo were in charge of busting Junction Point's during production of that game; it would be amazing. Of course, it also wouldn't come out until NEXT YEAR, but whatever

The polish is worth it, Retro! Can't wait to see what Nintendo property you handle next, or whatever original IP you might get to make. Might you guys start working on a launch title for the next Nintendo console at this point? Or go right into DKC Returns 2?

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops (DS)

Vinsanity

This just makes me want to see a DS FPS with style or original ideas. I'm so g--damn sick of US military shooters ruling the market...or rather, Call of Duty and a bunch of imitators clogging up said marketplace. I'd rather see a new Turok for DS. A shooter where you need some imagination to come up with the weapons? Where your enemies are interesting creatures like aliens and dinosaurs? THAT'S the kind of FPS that should be celebrated, not this creatively bankrupt garbage.

When you can point to games in this genre from about 15 years ago with far more imagination, you're in trouble...but of course, all that matters is the bottom line and as long as there are enough fools to make these games bring in record-breaking sales, this is all we're going to get for awhile. sigh

So Turok: Disney, get N-Space and make it happen! You already are working with N-Space on Tron: Battlegrids for Wii...

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Land (Game Boy)

Vinsanity

I thought about this just last week, thanks to DKC Returns. I was kinda hoping that Nintendo would see fit to bring THIS franchise back as well, on DS nowadays. New Super Mario Bros. appeared on both systems - might as well. Also, the Metroid Prime games showed up in a DS entry thanks to NST. I'm certain that NST could do a new, awesome Donkey Kong Land DS in association with Retro...

Re: Japanese Virtual Console List - December 2010

Vinsanity

They needed the other Adventure Island Games - the ones that are far, far better than wonder boy (II and III for the NES, maybe Super Adventure Island for SNES...though I can't remember that one exactly) - about a year ago. Still, no time to be cynical. I love me some NES games. Hudson, bring these over here to the 'states and I'll download 'em in a heartbeat!

Re: The DK Rap Isn't the Greatest Donkey Kong Song Any More

Vinsanity

That's strong like Donkey Kong!
...
Eff you, Nintendo. It's just not the same now that you had to trademark "the saying".
XD Awesome song though. I'm getting pumped for DKC Returns...even though it's nestled in between Sonic Colors (which is excellent and addictive) and Epic Mickey, which I can't wait for.

Re: Shantae Soundtrack Doing Great, Thanks to You

Vinsanity

Oh, but I DO hope the game is failing commercially. I mean, I bought it, but the DSiware store (I play it on my mum's DSi XL; I rock a DS Lite because a GBA library is far more worth it than the crappy games on DSiware. Shantae excluded of course). I want SOMETHING to push Wayforward to bring this title onto a digital store with some more awareness. This would be perfect on Wiiware, PSN or XBLA. Steam too probably, but a game like this needs to be played with a controller on a tv imo. Were they to bring this to Wiiware, I'd happily buy it again. Its an excellent sidescroller; it should be on a better platform.

Re: Shantae Soundtrack Doing Great, Thanks to You

Vinsanity

I paid for it - $10 is a small price to pay for chiptune gold And although I know that Mr.Kaufman will put this to good use and new software and/or equipment, I hope he doesn't abandon the chiptunage. Be like Yuzo Koshiro like that, man!

Re: Review: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (Wii)

Vinsanity

@Streakk: High Voltage has never made a racing game before - why would you think they could make a good racer?

Not to mention, it's not like their Conduit team is responsible for every one of their games. A lot of their stuff is just mercenary crap - a publisher hires them to do a quick and cheap port of a licensed game: Iron Man 2 Wii, Astro Boy, Dora the Exporer, Family Guy, etc. They have a team in place JUST to pump out a licensed game for cheap in 8-10 months for publishers, and that's who'd get to work on a Wii version of Need for Speed. It would still be bad.

But luckily, Exient's first DS games were relatively janky. But they got better and better with each iteration. If they're in charge of next year's Wii NFS, I'm sure it'll be an improvement.

Re: Review: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (Wii)

Vinsanity

Y'know, I wonder why Extient couldn't be given one of Criterion's older game engines to work with as a starting point. These guys make DS games for EA - its odd that they'd be given the Wii version of NFS Hot Pursuit. But i'm guessing they started with the code base from one of their DS NFS games for this title. They SHOULD'VE been given the engine for Burnout Revenge (PS2 or Xbox version) and adapt it to work with Wii, than go from there. Both studios are owned by EA; why couldn't they do that?

Anyways, I'm gonna rent this. I'm very curious as to how horrible it is:) Those screens actually look pretty slick; I gotta find out how big the disparity between them and the actual game is.

Re: Price Slashing Helps Sonic Colours Jump to UK Top 20

Vinsanity

Meh. That's silly. What Sega had to wait for, quite simply, was for ads to start popping up on tv. When they launched the game in the US, there were no ads. I just saw commercials start up this week for the game(s), and also Sonic free Riders for Kinect. I'd guess that they're looking to get the Sonic fans first, than get the kids with the ads, than get the parents through the Christmas shopping time. Sonic games - and Mario, and Kirby, etc. - always sell well in December leading up to Christmas. They're like, free passes for bad parents, y'know? They'll never be a game with Mario or Sonic in the title that'll be bad for their kids.

Seems really weird and desperate to slash the price so soon, Sega Europe. But maybe you know what you're doing. There's gotta be a reason why Sega Japan made you guys in charge of "Sega West" and dismantled Sega of America but good.

Maybe this is seen as a "rebuilding year" by SEGA. The first great Sonic console game in quite awhile needs to be played and believed and they have to start turning around the negative word of mouth the series has picked up over the past 10 years, y'know? They're willing to take a hit on profits to do that?

At any rate, Colors is excellent. Gorgeous, addictive, loaded with content, fantastic music and great play mechanics. I got this on launch day for Wii and it's awesome. Those red coins are sooooo addictive! Sega has to keep building off of this design for sure, whether or not it sells well. But i do hope it sells well.

Re: GoldenEye's Success "Proves Core Games Sell on Wii"

Vinsanity

It doesn't prove
All it proves is something most publishers already know; games only sell if you advertise them. Also, there's "power in branding". Hell, that's not even game specific. That's an entertainment industry thing. And it's the reason why Hollywood would rather remake every movie from the 80's than throw a proper budget at most original films; stuff like Inception notwithstanding.

That being said, it DOES say that gamers aren't apathetic to Wii games if they're well made, well covered, and well received. Hope to see ad pushes for Sonic Colors and Epic Mickey then, as those look like the last triple-A games for Wii this year. And I can personally vouch for Sonic Colors' quality; that game is awesome, gorgeous, loaded with content and addictive to play (GOTTA GET ALL THE RED RINGS!!!). It just sucks that most media outlets gloss over wii games, unless they have 'Mario' or 'Zelda' in the title. Pfft to that.

And I didn't forget Retro's triple-A game: DKC Returns doesn't count; Nintendo's behind it, it'll get an ad-push. But Sega and Disney are question marks. They better support their games.

Re: Competition Winners: Rabbids Sleep Over (UK)

Vinsanity

All funnier answers than I could think of:) I would probably just go back in time and show a bunch of people from the 1890's (or somewhere thereabouts) and show them a screening of Transforrmers, Independence Day, Cloverfield, District 9 - stuff like that. Then I'd tell them those were all true stories, and leave them with a warning; "That's how the future will be like".

See, none of these answers were as mean spirited:) good selections. Congrats to the winners.

Re: Reggie Wonders Where Metroid: Other M Sales Went Wrong

Vinsanity

I'd imagine the mixed reviews turned off a lot of potential consumers. Not to mention that the "hardcore" audience on Wii is pretty apathetic right now; they probably have just bought one, or both, of the other consoles by now. And when you consider that, I have three words for you, Reggie: "Red". "Dead". "Redemption". Biggest game of the summer by far, even though Mario Galaxy 2 did pretty damn well on its own anyway. People were STILL playing that two months after it came out. And anyone who wasn't was pre-occupied with the deafening buzz of the upcoming Halo:Reach.

But yeah, generally speaking, its hard for any game that's NOT a military FPS to really break out, unfortunately. Lets face it; most "hardcore" gamers are idiot posers whose gaming knowledge begins and ends with whatever games are featured in Gamestop ads. The days of gamers waiting diligently for next month's gaming mags and getting on top of promising new stuff are definitely waning. I mean, they're still there, and they'll always be there, but they're vastly outnumbered by the aforementioned "hardcore gamers" tards.

To NOA's credit though, they did advertise Metroid Other M pretty well. In fact, it was the commercial that sold me on it. I wasn't gonna pick it up right away, but dammit that ad was cool. Plus I dug Team Ninja's stuff anyway and thought it looked neat. I really like the idea of a true 2D/3D hybrid third person Metroid. Other M makes more sense certainly if it came out on the N64, as Metroid's first step into 3D. It feels like a game out of time like that, though it's one of the best looking games this year. A weird experiment with mixed reviews never equals sales success, not even when there's a pretty prominent brand name there.

Re: La-Mulana Fails Nintendo Approval Process

Vinsanity

Boo. But not terrible news. This holiday season is flooded with great releases already - who can focus on a wiiware game? Even if you don't own other systems by now (btw, boo to you), Wii alone has Kirby's Epic Yarn, GoldenEye 007, Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey, Donkey Kong Country Returns, etc. They actually have a very strong holiday lineup. Hoping that those third party titles see as much success as nintendo's own - its encouraging to see Activision support Goldeneye with a nice ad campaign, and ads lead to sales. Hope Sega and Disney are as aggressive supporting their games as Activision and Nintendo are.

Re: Frontier Preparing to Blow You Away With More LostWinds

Vinsanity

I had no idea that Microsoft tapped these guys to do Kinectimals. I could've sworn that was a Rare game - it looks like a heavily modified version of Viva Pinata -, but I'm intrigued by it now that I know "Team LostWinds" put it together. I'm totally up for additional Lostwinds games:D

Though I'll admit, I'd dig a few ports of Lostwinds to the other systems, just to increase the audience for those titles. Being able to manipulate the wind god with your hand on Kinect, while using a traditional controller to control whats-his-face(the main character) sounds like it'd be really cool.

Re: Review: GoldenEye 007 (Wii)

Vinsanity

Eurocom made 007 Nightfire on PS2/Gamecube, the best Bond game (although admittedly not as important as Rare's Goldeneye). Their re-imagining of Goldeneye was always destined to be a great shooter. Glad to see it get good reviews

I hate Activision, but I support Eurocom when they pump out awesome games. I might have to check out Goldeneye.

Re: Telltale's Back to the Future Not Coming to Wii

Vinsanity

Meh. If you're following this project, than you have a PC. In which case, get it on PC then. Telltale did a crap job with Monkey Island's Wii ports, thanks to Nintendo's stupid memory limit and some truly awful texture compression and streaming tech. Telltale's games - unless they were designed for Wiiware/disc - are not meant to be played on Nintendo's console.

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th October 2010 (North America)

Vinsanity

Shantae needs to come out on Wiiware, PSN/XBLA, or Steam/Direct2Drive/Impulse/Gamersgate. Dang it Wayforward; put this amazing game on a digital storefront that gamers actually use!?! So we can play this on our tvs or monitors, like "faux retro" games are meant to be played. Say, Mega man 9/10, La Mulana or Cave Story.

You guys are just lucky I got my mom a DSi XL for her birthday months ago. So I'll download the hell out of Shantae (actually, I already did this morning), and enjoy it 'cuz it's awesome, but I'm telling you guys -- put this thing on a REAL storefront and I'll gladly buy it again. And probably gift it to a few friends too.

Re: Review: M.C. Kids (NES)

Vinsanity

Oh also, Nintendolife - is it, like an anniversary for MCKids or something? Game Informer's Replay for this week was a one-two punch of McDonald's Treasureland and then the Replay Roulette for M.C. Kids.

Also, how come no one ever made a Mac Tonight game? I loved that creepy moon as a kid...

Re: Review: M.C. Kids (NES)

Vinsanity

I always got this confused with McDonald's Treasureland Adventure for the Genesis. Not the games really - I just thought that THIS game was the one made by Treasure. I'm surprised that its made by Virgin actually, but no matter. MC Kids is rad. Treasureland ain't bad either - its clearly a modification of Dynamite Headdy, after all

Why doesn't McDonalds license out their characters to good developers anymore? Especially with Burgerking doing some Xbox 360 games this generation.

Re: Capcom's Okamiden Limps to Retail in Japan

Vinsanity

That's . Japan - you'll make Love Plus a million+ seller, but ignore something amazing like Okamiden!?! You KNOW it'll be largely ignored in the west - its up to YOU guys (for once) to guarantee some sales for a killer title. And, of course, you've let us all down:( You guys BETTER pick up sales later on.

And also, I suppose its a good thing then, that I'm going to buy two copies of this when it hits the states. One for me, one for my sister.

Re: Yes, You Can Transfer DSiWare to 3DS

Vinsanity

good! Hopefully it'll be simple - just save it to an SD card then bring said SD card to the 3DS. Instead of what nonsense Nintendo usually cooks up, like, say, mailing them your save in Metroid Other M if you got that door glitch. Nintendo - don't treat this like a problem you had in 1993. We have technology - it's the future. Do the right thing.

Even though you know that there's a dick who'll utilize the SD card to hack the system and start the pirating bullsh** all over again. I swear, those cheap dicks are ruining things for every other gamer out there.

Re: Review: Racers' Islands: Crazy Racers (WiiWare)

Vinsanity

ugh - what a wasted opportunity. There are so many other interesting things they could've opted to have players shoot instead of blobs. What about grappling hooks, to access alternate paths? Switches to open up pits and have opponents fall in? They could've really had a neat twist on the tradition kart racer here, but they sound like they blew it...

Re: Exclusive Sneak Peek at Shantae Fan Club Mailer

Vinsanity

Awesome! Finally! All that stuff:D I'm a huge fan of Wayforward - far and away, they're the best 2D developer in the 'states - and have been waiting for Shantae 2 for forever. I still regret never picking up the GBC version to this day, and having to play it in (really screwed up) emulated form...

And its so cool that they're rewarding their fans for buying Mighty Flip Champs. Even though I never beat it - there are some devious puzzles there - its cool that they're rewarding people who bought it, and especially people who did well it sounds.

Wayforward's so cool:) Why don't they do any "faux retro" titles on normal DLG shops, like PSN, Wiiware, and Steam? I have a feeling that, since this is DSiware, only like 1000 people tops will play this. And that would be unfortunate for sure.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

Vinsanity

I remember having this for SNES and barely ever touching it. For some reason, my parents really wanted to either get into RPGs themselves or have my sister or I get into them, so they bought us a good number of 'em - Including Mystic Quest. Even though I must've been 6 or 7 and just wanted a "run to the right and jump over stuff" kinda game like Mario.

I've heard that this is supposed to be awful, but I'm looking forward to checking it out again when it comes out here in the US. I would love to see how it actually holds up. One thing I do remember is that the music is fairly pretty. At any rate, now that I've gotten into RPGs (thank you DS), I'm looking forward to getting much farther in Mystic Quest on VC than I ever did on my SNES.

Re: Harvest Moon 64 Will Not Sprout on Virtual Console

Vinsanity

I feel like there's a problem with Nintendo over N64 emulation. Why are there no third party titles up there, for example? And none of Rare's stuff? That's really horrible, as the N64 was practically defined by their games.

The n64 is getting screwed on the VC more than any of us, that's for sure.

P.S. Wishful thinking: I'm hoping that 4J converts Rare's games to the VC should they EVER make it there (here's hoping for the launch of Nintendo's next home console/re-launch of the VC). Their work re-doing the Banjo titles and Perfect Dark for XBLA has been excellent. Eff the original N64 versions. After playing them on XBLA, I can never go back. I'd love to see 'em re-do DKR and Jet Force Gemini.

Re: Buy Ufouria If You Want More Quirky Virtual Console Titles

Vinsanity

Y'know what? Mr.Ireland, the effort is definitely appreciated but eff it. Nintendo's treatment of the service is borderline criminal. Hell, it's not even stable - constantly doling out errors despite every other wireless device connecting to networks effortlessly. Its horribly designed as well, and if they can't be bothered to radically update it - a "Dashboard Update", as Microsoft calls it - then why should you try? If they can't be bothered to maintain the thing, then you shouldn't care anymore.

Just wait till their next console. 'cuz that's the only way I feel Nintendo will actually redo the Virtual Console/Wiiware digital storefront. Its embarrassing right now; for example, the lack of media for titles. Or rather, the trailers for games being over in the otherwise useless Nintendo Channel. How 'bout the lack of real awareness for standout titles? Or how hard it is to search for stuff now that there are so many games up there? Nintendo has BILLIONS of dollars to throw at this problem - to start an "online division" would be so easy for them, seriously -, yet they don't. They'd rather waste money on R&D for the damn vitality sensor, or whatever crappy "Wii ______" branded game they can throw out at the mainstream to make more money off of.

Seriously, if they don't care, eff 'em, dude. Even when I go to download your stuff - and I've picked up Aero 1 AND Ufouria, and am waiting for Aero 2 so I can never again bother with the Wiiware/Virtual Console channels again -, half the time I just get errors. Its an obnoxious, amateurish digital storefront. Nintendo doesn't deserve your support, nor do they deserve ours.

I'm shocked that Beenox turned out a great game AND also did converted it to Wii so successfully. I fully expected another "Cybertron Adventures" out of this, so props to them.

However, I'm going to spring for the extra $10 bucks and get a PS3 copy instead. Actually, its Activision...I think I'll just wait till a few months till it goes down to $30 either system. Maybe even get it used, so that Bobby Kotick won't get anymore of my money. I already broke my anti-Activision pact by buying Transformers:War for Cybertron - I'm in no rush to buy TWO games from them new this year.

Re: Review: Aero the Acrobat 2 (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

Vinsanity

Can't wait for this. Ever since sunsoft announced that both Aeros and Ufouria were on the way, I have been pumped to replay this 16 bit gem. Even though, in a lot of ways, its more generic than the first title. For example, giving him a snowboarding level? That's so much more derivative than the first game's roller coaster section.

Although that first game was brutal. And generally uninspired. There was room for improvement, for sure, and Aero 2 fixes it up A LOT. I can't wait to replay this:)

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th September (North America)

I'd much rather see Aero 2 than SamSho3. I got one Neo Geo game via the VC, and that's it. I decided to get the Metal Slug and SNK Arcade Classics games instead - $35 bucks for the two games, and already have pretty much all the Neo Geo I could ever want. You'd be a fool to pay 9 bucks for ONE title. Its not like they're putting Garou: Mark of the Wolves on the service.

Still, thanks for supporting the VC SNK Can you just put stuff up there that's....better? You know, games that aren't already available via retail disk for a MUCH MORE reasonable price? Like, Shock Troopers 2 or something?
