Re: Nintendo Wants You to Pick Xenoblade's Alternative Cover

Vinsanity

Beautiful looking game. Still hoping that NOA piggybacks off of NOE's localization and releases an english-language version in the 'states. But since Reggie's in charge over here, I'm not holding my breath. The man who killed Fatal Frame 4, Soma Bringer and Disaster's localization will probably strike again, preventing games like Xenoblade (he has to keep his beef with Monolith alive), Last Story and Pandora's Tower from coming to American shores.

Enjoy the game for me, my European brothers!

Re: Ubisoft Goes Out on a Limb to Bring Rayman Origins to Wii

Vinsanity

It's a shame it looks so terrible. Wanna make a new 2D Rayman? Awesome. Wanna turn Rayman and Globox into complete morons? Not welcome. Actually, Globox is not welcome anyway - he's always been stupid.

sigh It feels like an eternity since Rayman was awesome with games like Rayman Forever and Rayman the Great Escape (to this day, it seriously may be the best 3D platformer of all time behind Mario Galaxy). Heck, even the Game Boy Advance 2D Raymans were great. But this? Looks totally, completely, wretched.

The Ubi-Art GDK, though, looks impressive as heck! I can't wait for that thing to get released. Hurry up and rush out this turd Rayman game so we can get our hands on that, Ubi Soft!

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th May 2011 (Europe)

Vinsanity

I wish we got Adventure Island II or Super Adventure Island here in the states instead of MDK2 this past week. Well...if I'm wishing for stuff, I wish Nintendo would get their sh** together and launch everything simultaneously worldwide so these situations wouldn't happen:) Oh well...we did get Mighty Milky Way last week too, which is awesome, so I won't complain. But mans...we better get Adventure Island II soon...

Re: MDK2

Vinsanity

Why hasn't Nintendolife - or anyone else, for that matter - reviewed this yet? I really wanna see it in action. I really dig the trippy, memorable, alien world and shooter action of the first game, but remember playing the demo for MDK2 on a Dreamcast disc and kinda hating it (since it's no longer about Kurt exclusively now). Bioware did a good job mimicking the feel of Shiny's game well enough, but it's not as alien or trippy looking to me, and the humor falls flat...but seriously, this is from a DREAMCAST DEMO DISC! These memories probably aren't to be trusted:)

I want Nintendolife to review it, or Giant Bomb to Quick Look MDK2. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO COVER THIS!?!

Re: Pandora's Tower Trailer is Very Japanese in A Good Way

Vinsanity

@comefrutas: no dude. That's what art direction is all about. A game with style, that emphasizes art instead of "looking realistic" is ALWAYS going to look good. This is why Shadow of the Colossus and God of War II looked amazing even with the PS3 out. The wii doesn't have enough of these games, thanks mostly to Nintendo establishing a method of success with their Wii Sports games, starring those lazy, ugly Miis. Sent kinda the wrong message to third parties.

But art is always better than realism. People may be losing their sh** over games like Battlefield 3 now, but don't forget that they thought Doom 3 and Far Cry looked realistic too back in the day. Now they just look silly, boring and plasticy. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy IX and X are STILL great looking to this day. Gamers in general need to grow up, and stop losing their sh** for boring, realistic games and start valuing games with great art. Pandora's Tower, were it to up-res it's textures to HD resolutions, would look perfectly at home on an HD console. Even though it lacks the advanced lighting and mutli-material assets of a proper HD game. That's how good it looks.

Re: Pandora's Tower Trailer is Very Japanese in A Good Way

Vinsanity

@TheDarkness: There's nothing half ed about the games' visuals. If you don't dig Final Fantasy-style anime graphics, that's your deal. But there's a huge difference between, "This looks bad" and "I don't like this". This game is very, very detailed (for Wii tech) with beautifully modeled characters, bro.

Re: Pandora's Tower Trailer is Very Japanese in A Good Way

Vinsanity

If this comes out, I will buy it. I recently moved my Wii out of my room, in favor of just having my PS3 hooked up to my HDTV. I've had nothing of interest to play on it since Epic Mickey, Sonic Colors and Kirby's Epic Yarn. Even picking up older games like Lost in Shadows, Rune Factory and Sakura Wars on the cheap, there's very little there. And I don't care about Skyward Sword coming, at all (it looks super cheap. They can't just make an ugly game under the guise of "it's artistic style" when there are games like Okami on your console, and titles like Journey and El Shaddai out there on competitor's consoles, totally rocking the "artistic style" thing). But if Xenoblade, Last Story and Pandora's Tower come out, I'll gladly pick up 3 more titles this year before retiring my Wii for good

Re: Mighty Milky Way - Gameplay Trailer

Vinsanity

Wayforward's Jake Kaufman is the best game composer in the biz right now. Incredibly underrated. Gimme catchy, memorable, melodic chiptunes over bland, excessive "Hollywood style" orchestral background noise any day of the week! Any. Day. Of. The. Week!

At any rate, I'll have to DL this for sure. Wayforward I can always count on. MDK2 Wiiware is a mystery. I'll nab this now for sure, and we'll see about MDK2 later. Good week for Nintendo Downloads though!

Re: SEGA Wants to Crush 3DS with New Project

Vinsanity

Hooray! Crush was neat on PSP. This looks far more colorful and charming than I remember it though. It's good to see Sega revisit it. Seems really stupid to make an exclusive handheld game imho, especially on the PSP. Unless it's Monster Hunter, nothing sells that well. Particularly an original IP. Particularly ANYTHING on that POS system, whose battery can't hold a charge for 15 minutes, let alone long enough to survive the mandatory system update to get the new firmware to allow you access to the (currently down) PSN to even download the damn game! What an awful, awful handheld. I've bought a lot of systems over the years, but the PSP is easily the only one I truly, truly regret.

So, needless to say, I'm glad Crush is coming to Nintendo's platform!

Re: Rumour: Famitsu Details 3DS eShop Launch Line-Up

Vinsanity

It is really weird that the Turbo Grafx gets in on the mostly handheld-only VC here. Unless there's some portable I'm forgetting - was there a Sega NOMAD type Turbo Grafx system that let you play Bonk and co. on the go?

At any rate, cool beans. I still don't have a 3DS, and won't till a 3DS Lite comes out. The sooner they start getting content out though, the more stuff I'll have to look forward to when I pick up a handheld

Re: Egypt: Engineering an Empire Taking Over WiiWare and DSiWare

Vinsanity

This special is on Netflix. I dig it. Have no idea about the game though. "History Channel" doesn't exactly strike me as a bastion of quality gaming. Nor does DSiware. Not expecting a ton here.

@WaltzElf: Well, at least it's encouraging to hear someone say it's okay. Still wanna wait for some heavier coverage before getting my hopes up tho;)

Re: 3DS Launch Sales Have Been Breaking Records Worldwide

Vinsanity

DS support should continue. Heck, even the PS2 still gets support (WWE All Stars just came out for it!). Considering the 3DS is backwards compatible, and there are many more (and much better games) available for the DS than the 3DS right now, keep the king alive! I'd much rather keep playing Pokemon Black, Okamiden, or Monster Tale than anything on the 3DS right now.

Re: Nintendo Download: 18th April 2011 (North America)

Vinsanity

@Bulbasaurus Rex: Well, personally, I'm only anticipating 4 more Wiiware releases.

  • F.A.S.T. Racing League
  • La Mulana
  • MotoHeroz
  • MDK2

MDK2 lets you kill stuff. The others are not violent per se. But I'm super pumped for FAST. The boys at Shin'en (Jett Rocket, Iridion, Nanostray) are recycling their EXCELLENT Wiiware engine from Jett Rocket and giving Wii their answer to F-Zero or Wipeout. And yes, it looks pretty comparable to F-Zero GX (which is stunning). I've no doubt it'll play as good as it looks. I only question how much content they can squeeze into a Wiiware game. But at the end of the day, if it's at all reasonable, it's a Day-1 purchase.

Re: MDK 2 Shoots for 1000 of Your Nintendo Points on 9th May

Vinsanity

@Alfred ENG: Damn dude - I wish 1000 wii points were 7 bucks here in the 'states. At 10 bucks, it's a bit of a hard sell. I mean, GOG.com has MDK and MDK2 for 5.99 each. Once again, Nintendo's digital store is pricing things too highly if you ask me. I mean, it's worth 10 bucks, but...it can be found for cheaper.

Re: MDK 2 Shoots for 1000 of Your Nintendo Points on 9th May

Vinsanity

I much prefer the original MDK (the non-Kurt characters Bioware made up are doofus', with boring gameplay), but MDK2 is a great shooter regardless. And I haven't seen such genuinely alien worlds since the heyday of the late 90's, when developers realized that 3D tech wasn't advanced enough to make realistic scenes, so they went for FAR MORE creative, totally abstract stuff.

This should play well with the wiimote + nunchuk too. I guess this'll be a Wiiware buy for me. With F.A.S.T. Racing League, La Mulana and MotoHeroz still incoming too, I guess I'm NOT quite done with Wiiware yet after all...

Re: New Kirby Game Details Gathered, Now Absorb Them

Vinsanity

Eff YES. Kirby may be a classic platformer star, but imho, he's best when Nintendo uses him to test out experimental gameplay. Like in Cursed Canvas - the first killer app for the DS. Before Kirby's game, the DS was just weird. After that though, there was an epiphany moment of, "OOOH! Touch screens CAN add to gameplay, instead of just be a gimmick!"

I welcome another crazy Kirby title for the DS. Also, for the DS. Not the 3DS. My Lite is going to remain with me until Nintendo upgrades/redesigns that hardware and drops that price. $250-$300 is INSANE for a handheld. Especially one that you know will be redesigned and have its price slashed in a year/ year-and-a-half like all Nintendo handhelds are destined to do.

Re: This Solatorobo Concept Artwork is Pretty, Stunning

Vinsanity

@Sakura_Moonlight: I say try Play-Asia. Though I've only used them for Jap imports, I know they have stuff from other regions.

Anyway, this looks fantastic! I'm super thrilled that CC2 is going back to the universe for Tail Concerto. But there's a part of me that's thinking, "Why so much fuss over a DS game?". I mean, why not put out a charming, colorful game like this ALSO on PSN or something? Why do Japanese devs seem to hate downloadable gaming platforms so much right now? These guys are already incredibly talented with their HD console toolkits, judging by their other games (Asura's Wrath, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm). I'd love to see them get an RPG like this on consoles again.

Re: Rumour: Wii 2 has Blu-ray Drive, Controller Contains a Screen

Vinsanity

I hope the Blu-Ray rumor is true:) That would be SO interesting, at the end of the day, years from now when someone talks about the history of Sony + Nintendo. Who would've thought that, back in the day, Nintendo contracted Sony to make the SNES-CD, and then they screwed Sony over. And then 4 generations later, Nintendo ends up using a disc drive of theirs anyway XD

Re: This Dr Lautrec Trailer Reminds Us of a Rather Devilish Puzzle

Vinsanity

Dr. Lautrec has a monkey companion named D'artagnan (like the Musketeer). Professor Layton is dead to me! XD

Also, thesignpainter is right. While the cutscenes clearly have a Layton-esque style, the actual gameplay shown in the trailer (not much to go on, I know) seems different from Layton in that there are 3D graphics, and free roaming gameplay around some levels. So let's wait a bit before calling this a 100% Layton ripoff. Save some of that for Ubi Soft's James Noir game

Re: Hey, Listen, We Have 19 New Ocarina of Time Screenshots

Vinsanity

Btw, anyone else hoping that the NEXT 3DS Zelda is going to be an original game? Now that they have the engine up and running, would you prefer to see a remake of Majora's Mask or something new?

Considering how amazing the previous, original handheld Zelda games were (the Oracle of Ages, Link's Awakening, The Minish Cap/Four Swords, and Spirit Tracks), I find this remake very disappointing. Well...more "unexciting" than "disappointing", I guess. I sincerely hope that Grezzo gets to follow this up with an original Zelda game for the 3DS, like how Nintendo let Capcom-Flagship do the original GBC and GBA Zelda titles.

Re: Hey, Listen, We Have 19 New Ocarina of Time Screenshots

Vinsanity

Check your info, Nintendolife. Game Informer (probably the only outlet to catch this) revealed that the developer for OoT 3DS IS NOT Nintendo EAD. They're not doing it in-house. They're letting Grezzo do the "port-up". Which is Koichi Ishii's (of Secret of Mana fame) studio.

Considering Nintendo's excellent work in the past with ex-Square talent (or hell, let's just call them "only Square talent" at this point. Because the current Tetsuya Nomura led teams suck) has yielded some fantastic games. Whether it's from Brownie Brown (Magical Starsign, Mother 3), Monolith (Soma Bringer, Xenoblade) or Mistwalker (ASH, Last Story). You'd figure people would be making more of a deal out of this news of developer. It's way more exciting than having EAD get their hands on it at this point, as they've gotten pretty lazy post-Wii Sports (except for EAD Tokyo; the guys who still push tech and design with Mario Galaxy)

Re: Shin'en Brings Bullets Back with Nano Assault for 3DS

Vinsanity

Iridion II is one of the best schmups ever made. I remember Nanostray disappointing in relation to that, but I never played Nanostray 2; both were gorgeous DS titles though. If Shin'en is busting out another schmup, it'll likely be a classic. I'll have to remember to buy it when I pick up a 3DS...after a hardware redesign/price drop.

Re: Sorry Everyone, There Was No Monster Hunter 3DS Reveal

Vinsanity

Do not care for Monster Hunter personally. After games like Borderlands, Capcom's "buddy up and kill things for loot" games - Monster Hunter and Lost Planet - need some heavy redesigning and refining of the core gameplay to appeal to me (and most western gamers, I'd imagine). I just wanted to hear about new games at Captivate '11, and I was happy with news on Asura's Wrath (which I know was revealed at last year's TGS), and that Dragon Dogma game. Are they Nintendo-related news? No, but who cares when Nintendo supports third parties so, so badly? I have a Wii and a PS3, so I'm still very happy with what Capcom showed at the event.

Re: Nintendo Download: 11th April 2011 (North America)

Vinsanity

I hate MumboJumbo. I just remember that they bought Ritual - the designers of Sin and Sin Episodes (the first game besides Half Life 2 to adopt Steam as a release platform) - and destroyed them. They don't make core games, so why did they have to wreck a promising core developer? F*** those b****s.

Re: Capcom Objects to Ace Attorney Investigations 2 Translation Costs

Vinsanity

well, it's not entirely unheard of. This is why NOA decided to pass on Sin & Punishment back in the N64 days, or Star Fox 2. Once the "New" Hardware is out (this case, it's the 3DS), the "old" hardware loses support but quick. Except for publishers and developers too small to jump on the new system's bandwagon.

I don't care either way. I picked up Ghost Trick instead of Miles Edgeworth. I only pick up one quirky Capcom DS game a year, on average

Re: Nintendo Wants More Developers Like Retro Studios, Please

Vinsanity

Yeah well, wishful thinking ain't gonna cut it NOA. First off, you're going to have to make hardware that's competitive with contemporary consoles. Guys like Valve, id and Epic don't f*** with stuff "below them" apparently. Even though Epic had Unreal 2.5 running on Wii since Day 1 (Red Steel was powered by it), and id dabbled in DS and iphone development.

Secondly, you kinda have to support games on your console, as well as services like Wiiware and VC. Without an ad campaign, no one seems to care about the games Nintendo's bringing out. It doesn't matter if they're awesome or sucky, no one knows about them. They only know about the games that have ads (Carnival Games says hello).

Change the way you think nintendo, and more talented western guys will come aboard. Also, support the guys you DO partner with more. N-Space (Geist) and Next Level (Punch Out, Mario Strikers) have made their best games when working with Nintendo. But did Geist get any commercial time? Hell no. And it was awesome. The way NOA runs thing, I'm not surprised most western teams have an attitude of "fu** Nintendo". Compared to how Sony treats their teams, Nintendo's like some sort of...alien...creature that's only pretending to understand how things work on Earth. Or something.

Re: What's Going On With Solatorobo: Red the Hunter?

Vinsanity

@Kurona: DUDE! The DS has NO REGION LOCK! Import it! I will - I've been hoping for a UK/EU release, just so I could import. I haven't imported anything since getting Tsumiji. Which was basically Electronic Art's version of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, but about a Ninja. Seriously though, it's blatantly a Zelda clone. Pretty good one too.

If there's an english version coming, MPORT IT. Play-Asia.com mans.

Re: n-Space Has Three 3DS Games Up its Spacious Sleeves

Vinsanity

Good for N-Space. They've been biding their time, working exclusively on DS games for Activision like stupid COD. But whatevers - it kept the doors open. With a new generation of hardware, it's time for them to step up their game. Geist was actually pretty cool. I wanna see what they can do on the 3DS's (very similar to Gamecube) architecture.

Re: Review: Super Bonk (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

Vinsanity

@BassXO: The NES Bonk's Adventure is a port of the game of the same name on the TG16. There's no point to bringing it to us now. I hate it when Nintendo double dips on the VC, especially for inferior versions. If you wanna know more, google "Hardcore Gaming 101" and "Bonk's Adventure". HG101 is a FANTASTIC site all real gamers should know about!

Re: Review: A Monsteca Corral: Monsters vs. Robots (WiiWare)

Vinsanity

500 points seems like a reasonable price point for a weird, fun game like this if you're in the mood. I just...I can't...I hate Nintendo so much right now. I hate how they charge you 10 bucks minimum, even if you only want a 5 dollar game. They're such bastards. Downloading games on PSN and PC has made it very hard to go back to the asinine way Nintendo does things. And that's unfortunate, because ultimately it doesn't hurt Nintendo too much, it hurts developers.

When I dump cash into my Wiiware points to pick up a 500 pt. NES game (Adventure Island 2!), I'll spend the rest on this.

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th April 2011 (North America)

Vinsanity

Well, it's not Adventure Island II or Monster World IV, but Super Bonk seems like it's worth a look-see. Except for me, I HATED the first Bonk, skipped the second, and gave the third one another chance on TG-16...which I actually ended up liking a lot. So it could go either way. To Hardcore Gaming for research! Link:
http://hg101.kontek.net/bonk/bonk.htm

Also, Monsteca Corral looks weird as sh**. Sort of reminds me of Dojin the Giant...but with much worse animation.

Re: Captain America and Thor Trailers Power-Up Wii Together

Vinsanity

Red Fly is doing Thor. Thor will be better.

No offense to HVS. But they're clearly a multi-team studio. One team is working on the Conduit and Grinder. The other team is the team that does their Iron Man tie-ins and licensed games like Ben 10 and Dora the Explorer. HVS's "Licensed Tie in Team" is not very good.

Re: Monster World IV Coming to Virtual Console in Europe

Vinsanity

crossing fingers

Please come to America, please come to America, please come to America!

I remember playing this on Gametap back when it didn't suck, and had loads of classic games. This game is really cool. Even if I don't understand a lick of it. It's been awhile since we got an import game on the US VC. I sincerely hope that Monster World IV will be the next!

Re: Review: WWE All Stars (Wii)

Vinsanity

This game is awesome. I got it for PS3 because I care about the DLC (they're going to add something like 8 wrestlers in the coming weeks, including my favorite Chris Jericho), but it's awesome regardless of platform. Great, responsive animation (with FANTASTIC animation blending for reversals), awesome pacing for matches, killer super moves - this thing is a cool, accessible, competitive fighting game. Not a sluggish, unfun, overly mo-capped wrestling/MMA/boxing disappointment of a game.

Re: PlatinumGames President Saddened by Decline of New Ideas

Vinsanity

You know what would make my smile come back? Another Vanquish;) I've hated everything Platinum has done so far, despite all being pretty cool premises (Madworld has some serious design issues, Bayonetta is just offensively bad in every area of presentation), but Vanquish was world class. Simultaneously old school feeling (in that Japanese sci fi game way), and really thoughtfully designed as a third person shooter. Far more skill based and far more fun than any Gears rip off all generation.

But now Shinji Mikami works for Bethesda, and heads up his own studio (Tango Gameworks), so I'm certain that Vanquish 2 will never happen. Madworld, Bayonetta, Infinite Line, Max Anarchy - they all were, or look, pretty disappointing. So I don't think there is much Platinum can do to excite me. They need to dial back the crazy designs, out-of-place/cacophonous music, and focus more on refining the gameplay.

Re: Nintendo Clarifies Stance on Garage Developers

Vinsanity

I hope someone above his head chewed Reggie out for saying something so stupid.

Something to the effect of, "You do know that we have several, 'MyNotebook' games available for DSiware, right? I also believe we have a fireplace game for wiiware, and a "disco light" thing for DS too. Clearly; we don't give TWO about the games we put on our platforms - we just need developers. Because in case you haven't noticed, third party games aren't selling like hotcakes. STOP PISSING OFF PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY - FOR SOME REASON - WANNA MAKE SOMETHING FOR WIIWARE OR DSIWARE!!!"

Re: Review: Rabi Laby (DSiWare)

Vinsanity

this is a perfect DSiware game:) I love puzzle platformers. DSiware may suffer from a lot of garbage (all the MyNotebook games say hello), but games like Mighty Flip Champs, Shantae and Rabi Laby keep the thing alive. i'm happy with this.

Re: Review: Okamiden (DS)

Vinsanity

I wanna pick this up AND Monster Tale. Between those and Pokemon Black/White, this has been a FANTASTIC month for the DS. Screw the new kid on the block (3DS). When you get games of this quality, THEN we'll talk. In the meantime, you can keep nintendogs+cats to yourself; I'll be sticking to Okamiden and Monster Tale on my DSLite, thank you very much!

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th March 2011 (Europe)

Vinsanity

@jbrodack:
Hahahahahahaha. So true. I hate Reggie so much....

Also, I'm still waiting for Adventure Island II. I expect that when Europe gets it, us Americans will get it the following monday. So if they're not getting it this week, it's not looking good for us. Though that isn't a hard rule; sometimes we get games first.

Re: Bomberman and Bonk Cancelled for 3DS

Vinsanity

It seems really weird to cancel Bomberman, since his appearance on ANY platform is inevitable. I imagine this is just due to some confusion on Konami's part, as they're wrapping up the acquisition of Hudson Soft (much like how Warner Bros. seems to have not noticed Gauntlet, Defender, or any non-Mortal Kombat Midway properties they acquired yet).

Bomberman will show up on 3DS eventually. As for Bonk, who cares? The TG-16/Nes/SNES games were decent, ranging from pretty bad to pretty good. But the new "Bonk: Brink of Extinction", being developed in the 'states by Pi Studios, looked wretched. I'm glad as heck that it got cancelled:) They were working on it for like 2 years anyway; if that doesn't signal red flags, I don't know what does. It's a sidescroller, for christ sakes. Sonic 4, Rocket Knight (PSN/XBLA), New Super Mario Bros. AND Donkey Kong Country Returns were all done in less time than Pi was working on Bonk: Brink of Extinction. Cancelling that was for the best, I'm sure.
