Re: 3DS Could Be Your Ticket to International Museums

Vinsanity

I could see there being an app you could download where you use the 3DS camera to identify art exhibits at a museum and it'll tell you about them, or something. Sorta like your own personal tour guide? I love going to museums like the MET here in NYC; I'd use my 3DS to improve the experience for sure.

More AR stuff on the 3DS is only a good thing.

Re: Rumour: Kid Icarus: Uprising to Miss 2011 in Europe

Vinsanity

You're assuming the game will be good. I have a feeling it won't be, but most outlets will review it favorably regardless. Sorta like Square's 3rd Birthday for PSP. Something about Nintendo making a third person shooter....with touch screen-as-mouse look controls....for a handheld...and calling the resulting mess "Kid Icarus"; nothing here sounds like it'll yield a good game. With the exception of Vanquish, I don't think the Japanese have ever made a great third person shooter. Usually they're just awkward and monotonous. Add onto it the fact that it's on a handheld, with the atrocious touch screen aiming...this is going to disappoint.

You guys are getting Xenoblade and Last Story Europe. Enjoy those titles.

Re: Iwata: "Difficult to Launch Hardware Close to Its Announcement"

Vinsanity

What the heck are shareholders talking about? Console makers have ALWAYS talked about their new hardware, like, a year out from release. I remember this stuff from way back in the mid-90's, when Nintendo was talking about the SNES CD (which became the Playstation), and eventually the Nintendo "Ultra" 64. Sure, there was Sega, who announced the Saturn at e3 and then released it stores the SAME DAY (not the brightest move), but mostly, there's always a lengthy wait between announcements and hardware release.

Who gives a sh** though really? What's far more worrying is the massive gap in time between a hardware's release and how long it takes for a killer app to show up. I seem to remember Nintendo being able to launch with worthwhile games back in the day. Back when Mario would show up to a system's launch. Now though, it takes a year or MORE. And without games, who cares about hardware...besides those psychotic PC gamers who will spend thousands to upgrade their rig so Crysis 2 can run in DX11 mode and they can get slightly nicer reflection effects.

The Wii U better launch with some great stuff, man. Port ups of Wii games we were denied or are coming out late (Xenoblade, Skyward Sword, Dragon Quest X are all great candidates for a Wii U port up. If Sony can pull off the "HD Remaster" trick for PSP games on the PS3, Nintendo should be able to do something like that for Wii U), some cool original stuff, the eShop ready-to-go on Day 1, and good ports of other HD console games. Anything less is another slap in the face from the company.

Re: Resident Evil: Revelations Graphics "Will Blow You Away"

Vinsanity

Well, I'm glad someone is trying to set a graphical benchmark on the 3DS.

You know what I find weird? Splinter Cell 3D, like Red Steel before it, proves that Unreal engine works on Nintendo hardware. Granted, in both cases it's Unreal 2.5 or Unreal 2X (I believe the current is 3.5), but that doesn't matter. I don't know why people like High Voltage waste time working on their own engine (Quantum3?) when they should grab Unreal 2.5 and mod new features into it for Nintendo hardware. Unreal has always been powerful and flexible. Granted, 3 spanks 2.5, but still.

Clearly, Capcom's MT Framework GDK is powerful, scalable stuff:) I hope to see them continue to use it on 3DS. Will Mega Man Legends 3 utilize it?

Re: Review: Moto eXtreme (DSiWare)

Vinsanity

Trials HD for the DS? That's cool. If not entirely original — the comments here speak volumes of the long line of games (mostly PC) that combine motocross with physics-based platforming.

Re: Tales of Graces Wii Will Not Be Released In the West

Vinsanity

@JaxxRaxor: I really have to question Enix's decision to stick with the Wii for Dragon Quest X. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see that game end up on the 3DS or Wii U instead. Hopefully, it'll be the first Dragon Quest to get a multiplatform release.

But one thing's for sure, if it remains on Wii, we won't get it. Square doesn't localize them themselves; NOA does (Dragon Quest IX and Dragon Quest VI). And we all know how supportive NOA is of Wii-exclusive RPGs in 2011 and beyond...

Re: Tales of Graces Wii Will Not Be Released In the West

Vinsanity

This isn't surprising in the least. 3rd party game seldom sell well on the Wii, and with Nintendo abandoning the platform en masse this year, why should Namco think differently?

The important thing is that it's coming to the PS3 here, so who cares? I have a PS3; if I wanna get my Tales on, I'll be able to.

Re: Rumour: Aliens: Infestation to Attack DS in October

Vinsanity

I am definitely interested in anything Wayforward does. Though I prefer their original stuff, with their charming anime-esque art, everything they do is pretty high-quality. Even movie tie-ins like Thor. But this lies somewhere in between; sure it's using a movie license, but it's not like it was rushed to make a movie's release date. Not to mention, they actually got MORE time to work on it since Gearbox delayed their Aliens game so much.

I wonder if Gearbox's game is scheduled to release this year too?

At any rate, I wanna see what Wayforward's been doing with this. Will it be like Metroid? Contra? Something a little more cinematic, hopefully — a touch of Flashback or Another World? The guys at Wayforward know their 2D games. It's going to be exciting to see what they turned to for inspiration when designing Aliens DS.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Director was Kept in the Dark About Wii U

Vinsanity

Well, I'm glad Nintendo was soooo secretive. I mean, it's not like details weren't leaked, like, a month in advance (or more) so sites like IGN couldn't spill everything anyway.

Oh wait... ;p

Really, dumb. They would've been MUCH better suited letting their own game designers know about this thing, so they could show up to e3 with some god*amn games to show for this currently useless hunk of sh**, than try to "keep the secret" from everybody. Idiots.

After this whole "Operation Rainfall" thing, I don't know if I can talk about Nintendo without becoming completely furious at every boneheaded move they make. They're really f*cking crazy.

Re: Review: Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Stealth Force Edition (3DS)

Vinsanity

It's really stupid to release a Transformers game with no transforming, or robots. But I gotta say, "portable Twisted Metal for Nintendo platforms" SOUNDS like it could've been great.

Twisted Metal Head On is a great PS2/PSP game; these games can make for excellent handheld experiences! This 100% car-combat "Transformers" game really could've still been great! But Behaviour, you guys really dropped the ball. Tsk, tsk.

Re: Interview: Star Odyssey and The Challenge of Bringing Dead Games Back to Life

Vinsanity

This is neat:) I'm definitely a fan of "dead" consoles still going via efforts like this. Heck, I always thought it would be cool if, say, students were allowed to publish games for last gen-consoles. Like say releasing budget, retail PS2 games NOWADAYS. Sony could just "unlock" the thing, stop policing the platform, and give anyone the means to manufacture a retail game. It would be great for people learning to put games together, and also be great for the platforms to keep going. It's going to happen anyway, but it would be nice for these groups of hackers, hobbyists and rookie game-makers to have a more "legal" way to pull this trick off. Instead of the rare example, like the team here, or that guy who manufactured Battle Kid for NES last year.

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation Rainfall

Vinsanity

@17.Warioswoods:

You do realize that that's irrelevant? NOE is footing the bill for localization. NOA doesn't have to do sh**. Except maybe re-record some voices, if the british voicework is deemed "too alien to be marketable". Which is a real concern (why do you think stuff like The Office gets remade instead of just being aired here in the 'states?).

The fact of the matter though is that the people who know of Xenoblade now, and want to play it, are hardcore enough that they wouldn't give a sh*t if the voicework was "too british" for them normally. All NOA has to do is nab the UK version and put it on some US Region discs and release a limited run. Without advertising, and without paying a dime for translation. Just pure manufacturing costs, which is dirt cheap since they're just DVDs in 2011. With a little intelligence, and a proper limited run (just look at how many people pre-ordered "Monado" on Amazon for an estimate), they could EASILY make some money off it, purely from the hardcore. They're just being dipsh**s about this.

Huge dipsh*ts, actually. Considering they premiered Xenoblade, as "Monado: Beginning of the World" at a US e3 three years ago. Should've gone to Tokyo Game Show if it was never meant to release here. A--holes.

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation Rainfall

Vinsanity

The fact of the matter is, Nintendo is a first party. It's their responsibility to release games for their hardware. If they don't want to, they should follow Sega's lead and gtfo and just become a third party. Sony's got enough innovation for them to use; I'm sure Mario and Zelda would kick ass on the Playstation!

I just can't believe that not only would they rather NOT release a game for the Wii for 3/4 of the year, but that there ARE GAMES AVAILABLE!!! I've said it before, NOE is footing the bill for localization; all they have to do is make some US-enabled copies, and print some discs. Even limited numbers, because you KNOW they would never dare spend money advertising them. And of course, without any awareness out there (thanks to lack of commercials), they could point at them later and say things like, "See we told you; RPGs don't sell on Wii. Especially when you don't advertise them and hardly anyone knows they exist and stores don't stock copies! Please ignore the sales numbers for Tails of Symphonia Dawn of the New World though, so our statement makes sense".

They're being huge d-bags. Any other first party — Microsoft, Sony, Sega, etc. — would easily pluck some already-translated games from their UK region and release them here while their release schedule is so incredibly, laughably awful. But somehow, Reggie transcends this. He's so far beyond incredibly, laughably awful that it's astounding.

He's part of that culture nowadays that wants to stumble upon a million seller, instead of supporting a game they know is great and working at it until they turn it into a million seller. Frankly, it's kinda disgusting. I'm sure he's looked at Monster Hunter Tri's commercial failure (or, at the very least, underperformance) and said, "No more. RPG's don't sell". Instead of what gamers are thinking, which is, "Man, Monster Hunter's odd. Why is it so popular in Japan? Borderlands would frickin' blow their minds". Xenoblade could be successful, so could Last Story. But it would take work and money, and those are two things NOA doesn't want to throw at any game. Why bother when they could release Wii Play Motion, or Ocarina 3D, and legions of moronic, blind Nintendo fanboys will eat 'em up?

NOA is running on disgusting business practices these days. I haven't missed Ken Lobb and Minoru Arakawa this much since...well, the last time Reggie single-handedly shot down a promising game for Wii that eventually got translated into english for the UK anyway. sigh

They deserve to be in last place in "the console wars". They really do.

Re: Pachter to Operation Rainfall: "I Agree"

Vinsanity

It's because of decisions like this that NOA is a laughingstock to guys like Pachter. I mean, go to any multiplatform gaming site and the Nintendo Wii is hardly discussed — with the exception of Mario or Zelda games, and few others. NOA needs to change their ways. And firing Reggie's dumb ass is the first thing that should be on the list.

Re: NOA: "Never Say Never," But No Plans to Bring Sought-After Wii Games to NA

Vinsanity

Arrrgh. NOA blows.

At this point, we should petition NOE to release Xenoblade without region-lock on the disc, so any region Wii can run it, and we can import freely. That seems far likelier at this point. Even though I find the UK dub odd. Mainly because of the Irish (?) main character's friend's voice. Everyone else sounds fine, but the red head guy? Doesn't look like he should sound that way to me...
Source: http://kotaku.com/5816120/xenoblade-chronicles-suddenly-sounds-very-english

I'm curious as to what my UK Nintendo fan brethren think of the dub? I never really thought of it before — do you guys usually get UK specific dubs of games? 'Cuz I assumed North America and the UK/Australia share productions.

Re: Rumour: SEGA Preparing a Third Sonic Storybook Game

Vinsanity

I'm game. I heard Black Knight was awful, so I stayed away from it. But Secret Rings was genuinely cool, and the first step towards righting the Sonic 3D track...mostly because it introduced the idea of treating Sonic like half-race car, and thus designing levels like race tracks. Which is what you have to do (half Mario, half Burnout); and what Sonic Unleashed continued to refine, and Sonic Colors perfected.

Besides, I remember getting an email survey awhile back where they asked about possible directions for the next Wii-exclusive "Storybook Sonic". There were themes ranging from a western of some sort, to some sort of horror story, to greek myths. I even thought I heard rumors of a "Sonic and Pandora's Box" awhile back, before Sonic Colors was released. Which would admittedly be cool.

Let's just hope it's going to be a Wii U title though, 'cuz the Wii's dead. There's no reason it SHOULDN'T be though, since the "Hedgehog Engine" (what Unleashed, Colors and now Generations, runs on) was built to be scale-able. And these games have shown up on the PS3 and 360...

Re: Mighty Switch Force to Release on 3DS eShop

Vinsanity

I LOVED the previous games in Wayforward's Mighty series! I also picked up a 3DS, reluctantly, because my DS Lite broke:( Ocarina of Time 3D is really not a killer app since so much of it isn't a new experience. There are no exclusive reasons to own a 3DS currently, unfortunately. So I've been waiting for eShop exclusives to deliver a the killer app.

I cannot wait for this, Wayforward!

Re: Review: Sonic Advance (Game Boy Advance)

Vinsanity

Meh. Sonic Advance was a great first Nintendo Sonic game, true. It's got great graphics and the core game is fine. But it's slow, the platforming is simple and the music is forgettable.

Sonic Advance 2 though refines everything about the first game, improves in many areas, introduces great new mechanics that really elevate Sonic's 2D gameplay and bring some wonderful tunes to the table. Sonic Advance 2 is serious contender for best in the series; Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Colors and Sonic 2 be damned!

Sonic Advance 3 is also amazing too.

But the first one is merely okay. I will be supremely disappointed if Nintendolife scores the sequel lower than this first one.

Re: Wii RPG Outrage Floods Official Nintendo Facebook

Vinsanity

Since Game Informer is covering this thing too, I went and dropped this gem in their comments sections,
>>>>>
Just wanted to remind people to head over to Nintendo's Facebook page too. There are over 700 comments about this issue there currently:

www.facebook.com/.../125290064222122

Now, I'm not telling people to bomb nintendo's facebook page, but I will say this: Nintendo of Europe wanted to give NOA their localized (in progress) Xenoblade Chronicles so they could bring it to e3 this year, and NOA SHOT 'EM DOWN. Source: wii.nintendolife.com/.../xenoblades_north_american_release_chances_take_a_knock

Now that you're good and pissed at Reggie and his NOA tools, do what you feel like:)
>>>>>
So thanks Nintendolife for your article on what incredible d-bags NOA's tools are, because I like to think it inspired a few Nintendo fans at least to head on over to the Nintendo facebook page and start voicing some opinions! How could I galvanize anyone without your rage-inducing article concerning NOA's decision AGAINST bringing Xenoblade to e3?

Seriously, wtf is NOA thinking? They'd rather go a whole year without anything to release for the Wii than bring over a game NOE is ALREADY LOCALIZING? What lazy, greedy a--holes. They've been doing this sh** for the whole generation, ever since Reggie became president. I hate that guy so much. Minoru Arakawa (NOA's old prez, from the 80's to 2002) would've been much cooler. He also would've probably advertised the awesome games for Nintendo's consoles, instead of pocketing the change himself and going to Jimmy Fallon's show to spit out some mindless PR speak.

Re: Talking Point: Your Sonic the Hedgehog Memories

Vinsanity

I have sooo many memories of Sonic, which is weird because I'm a Nintendo gamer, and was super hardcore with "The Big N" during the 16 bit wars:) But my cousin had a Genesis and I played all the Sonics on that system every time I went to visit him.

I just LOVED how Sonic brought the 90's attitude with him; places like Chemical Plant and Casino Night Zone reminded me of growing up in NYC, with the lights on the building contrasting against the dark sky. There were almost no night levels in Mario, so that was a really cool visual that stuck out to me in Sega's games. Also, the music. Guys like Yuzo Koshiro and Masato Nakamura brought beautiful, energetic music (the Labyrinth Zone theme was the first thing I ever learned to play on piano, and I taught myself!) with them to the games, as well as early 90's R&B/Hip hop flavor. I still remember the "urban legend" that Michael Jackson and/or his song-writing team contributed tunes to Sonic 3! My love of that kind of attitude and music in the series came to head when Traveler's Tale got their hands on the series with Sonic R, and gave us "Can you Feel the Sunshine" and "Living in the City" and all the songs by Richard Jaques and TJ Davis. To this day, Sonic R (and 3D Blast) have the most underrated OST in video-gaming history. I cannot believe that some people find that soundtrack cheesy. They must be joyless, horrible individuals:)

But since I've stuck with series the WHOLE TIME, and have been a huge supporter of Sonic on Nintendo hardware, I've got plenty of memories. I remember being pumped that Sonic Adventure 2 was gonna hit the Gamecube before Mario! I remember the first time I heard Crush 40 doing the epic, hair metal-style rock anthems for the Dreamcast-and-up Sonic games. The Sonic Advance games - specifically 2 + 3 - are some of the best games I've ever played with fantastic music, and did a great job expanding Sonic's moveset. And then finally, most recently, being addicted to hunting down the Red Rings in Sonic Colors to unlock the Sonic Simulator levels and, in turn, the chaos emeralds. Sonic Colors is fantastic.

I hope this 20th Anniversary reminds people that Sonic is awesome, because I'm tired of hearing people who have obviously long since stopped playing Sonic games tear into the series. There have been ups and downs, sure. But there really wasn't a prolonged period of suckitude. And Sega's always made sure that the right attitude has been there and the games have always been fun. Except for Sonic 2006...that one was 100% wretched. But hey, growing pains. It was their first HD title. A LOT of developers' first 360 games were dogsh**.

Re: Solatorobo Tracks Down a North American Publisher

Vinsanity

Y'know what XSeed? I'll even dig out my PSP-3000 from the drawer I chucked it into months ago to play Ys Oath in Felghana. But only because it's the Amazon Games Deal of the Day, and it's Lightning Deal Price is 15 bucks, AND I have $10 credit from pre-ordering Duke Nukem Forever That's the only way I'd be convinced to play my PSP again — congrats, you found it out.

But hey, at least my $5 is going to kick publisher. Believe me, i'll snap up Solatarobo DS the day it comes out. I LOVE my DS's.

Re: Xenoblade's North American Release Chances Take a Knock

Vinsanity

Jeez laweez. Reggie and his NOA losers are such di*ks at this point, if NOE offered to bring a translated version to e3 and NOA denied them. JUST RELEASE THE ENGLISH VERSION THEY'RE LOCALIZING FOR THE UK, YOU MORONS!!! You don't even have to translate anything; they're eating the localization bill. All you gotta do is print the discs!

GOD I HATE REGGIE!!! HOW CAN SUCH A BAD PRESIDENT STAY IN CHARGE OF NOA FOR SO LONG!!!

Japan must love him as a puppet, or something.

I'd like to see someone like XSeed take on Xenoblade, but they wouldn't. It just won't sell enough to make them enough capital in return, even though NOE is footing the localization bill. I'd love for someone a little bigger - Atlus, Square - to come to the rescue though. But I imagine a ton of publishers are gunshy here. NOA considers the Wii dead; why should any other publisher think differently?

The only way we'll get this game is a decade or more from now, when it show up as a Virtual Console release on Nintendo's 11th(?) generation console. Hopefully Reggie won't still be in charge by then.

Re: Solatorobo Tracks Down a North American Publisher

Vinsanity

YEAAAAAHHH!! I love you XSeed, even though I know it's moves like these that will lead to an untimely death for your studio. But man, did I appreciate Fragile Dreams' getting a US release. If you guys put some of those killer Ys remakes on the PSN's "PSP Remasters" collection, I'll snap up the entire series in a heartbeat. The PSP, as hardware, is sorta dogsh**, and I refuse to play anything else on it. Maybe I'll just download all the Ys' when I get a Vita? Either way, I wanna support you guys more, but I only will if you get games for hardware I care about. This is the kinda thing I'm talking about.

I also hope that Nintendo Europe eats most of the localization budget since they're doing Europe, and you can just snatch up the UK region's script and print some US copies and call it a day. Nice and cheap;) I actually hope some publisher does that for the Wii games that got EU releases incoming, but the US — inexplicably — isn't. Like Last Story and Xenoblade. NOA blows.

Needless to say, I'll preorder Solatrobo ASAP. Just so you can count on one guaranteed sale that much more.

Re: Sonic Generations Gets Online Play and StreetPass

Vinsanity

Oh also, I really hope, "Super Sonic Racing" actually makes it into the game:) Sega clearly has love for the brit-dance-pop/90's R&B music from Traveler's Tales Saturn game, since it was in Sega All Stars Racing. I know haters gonna hate on anything Sonic-related, but I personally love the soundtrack to both Sonic 3D Blast AND Sonic R.

I find it weird that there's a 3DS SKU of Generations coming out and none for the Wii. That's sorta bizarre since the hardware is similar. And the Wii's been pretty damn good to Sonic (he's one of the few non-Nintendo first party games to consistently sell over a million units on the console).

Re: Sonic Generations Gets Online Play and StreetPass

Vinsanity

I'm soooo excited for this! Sonic Colors was amazing. The core gameplay was solid, but the visuals and music were top-notch. And the actual content — getting the red rings, unlocking the "Sonic Simulator" stages, and earning chaos rings — was EXCEPTIONAL and the single most addictive thing I've done in a game since...maybe ever. So I could not be more excited for Sonic Generations.

Also, I just got a 3DS and am basically just using it as a replacement DS for my busted DS Lite (RIP old friend). I'm eagerly anticipating upcoming games for it, but there's little to play NOW. Because I've played OoT already, and don't care about a port/remake.

Re: Review: BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 (3DS)

Vinsanity

IGN's review, which was done pretty much back-to-back with the PSP release of the title, pointed out that there's some nasty framerate/slowdown going on here. Particularly during multiplayer matches. Which is unfortunate. I mean, there's no way I'll play it - or anything else - on the PSP anymore. But it's just a shame that, apparently, this thing just ain't quite gellin' with contemporary handhelds. I'll have to try to check it out for 3DS before purchasing — good thing I have a Gamefly account

@MickeyMac: Here's hoping the Vita version can nail it.

Re: First Impressions: Kirby Wii

Vinsanity

So much more effort have gone into these visuals than the New Super Mario games. Kirby's Epic Yarn - along with Epic Mickey, Sonic Colors and Mario Galaxy 2 - were far and away the best games of Wii last year. And some of the best games on the console yet. I'm all for more Kirby, even though my Wii is pretty much boxed up right now. Maybe I'll pick it up and hold onto it until the Wii U releases...

And speaking of which, here's hoping New Super Mario Bros. for Wii U has visuals that aren't identical to the DS and Wii precursors.

Re: Super Mario 3DS Has More Thrills, Less Exploration

Vinsanity

Although after both (fantastic) Galaxy games, I really hope the Wii U Super Mario goes back to a TAD more of exploration-focused areas. After playing Epic Mickey and Sly Collection last year, I really am starting to miss more open worlds in 3D platformers. It's really, really dumb when every developer shoots to create the same experience - just look at the globs of faceless military shooters on the market that all play like Call of Duty. So seeing 2D make such a strong comeback - New Super Mario, Littlebigplanet, Kirby, Donkey Kong, even Sonic Colors is AT LEAST half all sidescrolling levels - means there are less exploration based 3D platformers than ever. And games like Mario Galaxy and Ratchet & Clank All 4 One are clearly putting a premium on linear, focused action. They're all great. I just miss exploring a level and finding secrets and stuff. Epic Mickey made me realize that.

So I hope "Super Mario Universe" is a little more open That's what it logically has to be called, right? They did Super Mario LAND, Super Mario WORLD, Super Mario GALAXY...the next one has to be Super Mario UNIVERSE, right?

Re: Super Mario 3DS Has More Thrills, Less Exploration

Vinsanity

It's good to cut back on the exploration in a handheld game. Get to the focused action, and back out. I mean, honestly, it hasn't been a big deal with this last generation of handhelds - both the PSP and DS introduced suspend features, after all - but it's still nice to know that the developer can make a distinction between "handheld experience" and "console experience".

To be fair, I'm probably a big hypocrite:) My favorite handheld game of all time - and one of my favorite games of all time, period - is Dragon Quest IX. I've pumped nearly 80 hours into that, so I'm very happy with the loads of exploration in that particular game

Re: Translated Episodes of Game Center CX to be Aired Online

Vinsanity

I actually hope it's dubbed. I mean y'know, where it makes sense (I don't think anyone would try replicating his screams, for example). It just doesn't make sense to read subtitles when you're trying to watch the action on the screen, right?

Still getting it at all is a treat! Thank you GAWKER and Kotaku!

Re: Reggie Demos Kid Icarus AR, Skyward Sword and More on TV

Vinsanity

I hate Reggie, and I can't understand why Nintendo's going to show the Wii U without any games. That's just baffling. But I dig Jimmy Fallon's coverage of games in mainstream media, even if I no longer watch any late night show on NBC. When Conan moved to TBS, so did I

Re: Review: Nanda's Island (DS)

Vinsanity

Man...did anybody buy Fluidity? I really feel bad for those developers - they went from making well received Buzz games on Sony's console to doing a first party downloadable Nintendo game....and I'm pretty sure no one cared, including nintendo, who promoted it terribly. They should stick to PS3 games like Explodemon. Nintendo doesn't care about third parties or great exclusive third party games.

Re: Gabrielle's Ghostly Groove: Monster Mix

Vinsanity

Nintendo REALLY needs to learn a thing or two about hype, advertising and promotion when it comes to games available for their console. I never heard of this until the day it released. And I've no doubt that there are far more gamers who will never hear of this still. Tsk, tsk.

Looks charming

Re: Dead or Alive Fails to Land a Hold on UK Charts

Vinsanity

I actually am kinda glad to see this:)

I mean, Nintendo sucks. When the Wii came out and sold so unexpectedly well, they immediately thought, "Holy cr---no need to spend money advertising anything anymore! These things are flying off of shelves by themselves!". And then they just pocketed money they otherwise WOULD'VE spent on advertising. They got into this attitude - all generation long - of, "Hey Third Parties; not our problem".

The "Wii would like to play" guys disappeared like two months after the wii came out, and so did an ad campaign for wii games. There's a HUGE reason why Red Steel 1 easily passed the million seller mark, but Red Steel 2 did not. And it's called awareness. Hype, advertising - these are why games sell nowadays. It has nothing to do with quality, unfortunately. So Nintendo needs to get off their stupid high-horse, and start caring about moving some games. FAR too many great, exclusive wii games went unnoticed. Most gaming sites nowadays practically ONLY cover 360/PS3 titles, paying attention to Wii only to talk Mario or Zelda. That's bullsh** for games like Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Fragile Dreams, No More Heroes 2 or anything else that got screwed on retail shelves.

So I'm happy Nintendo's getting screwed with an apathetic reaction to the 3DS so far. I mean, it sucks that it hurts Tecmo and anyone else releasing quality software early on. But - hopefully - Nintendo will realize, "Holy cr-- we have been wrong about how to this thing all along! We gotta advertise the HELL out of this thing and these games"

Re: High Voltage Responds Badly to Scathing Conduit 2 Review

Vinsanity

@Damn right, Sylverstone

@AlexSays: you have an incredibly bad attitude. Why would you want any studio to NOT try and do better than they currently do? You just expect studios to stick to making one type of games forever, and people should just automatically just shoot to work at "a call of duty studio" or a "mario studio"? You're just a jackass when you say stuff like that.

"Scum of gaming"? Hardly; all they wanted to do was make something better than they ever have before, and deliver an experience to wii gamers that other studios were not. It takes far more skill to even make a bad game than it does to post a stupid comment on a website, man. Even at their worst, they're nowhere near as bad as gamers like you.

Re: First Impressions: FAST - Racing League

Vinsanity

The Jett Rocket engine is A MONSTER. At least, when it comes to Gamecube/Wii/3DS era tech.

I hope Shin'en puts out some 3DS games. They need to have a retail presence. Too many gamers overlook the DLGs on Nintendo platforms. Even just porting games like Jett Rocket and FAST to 3DS, at a budget price, would be a VERY WELCOME THING right now for that system, since it's hurtin' for some rad games to play like this.

Re: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Sequel Unlikely to Hit the Wii

Vinsanity

I'm surprised Capcom has a "fighting game roadmap" ahead of them. I mean, I love Super Street Fighter IV on my PS3, but really...could not get excited about MvC3 at all. And Street Fighter X Tekken is only registering a blip on my excitement radar currently.

I don't see the appeal when so many similar games come out so soon. I mean, this is what screwed over Street Fighter in the first place (and Guitar Hero for Activision). "Annualizing" games is stupid. I wish it would screw over Call of Duty already, but - lucky for Activision - there are enough stupid gamers out there feeding into that machine that they don't even bother to look at what else is out there. But for everything else apparently - fighting games included - sequels and sequels all building off the same core engine is just ...not exciting.

Capcom should try their hand making a new one, or resurrecting another long dormant franchise - THAT would be exciting. A new Star Gladiator, Project Justice or Darkstalkers would be much more preferable to yet more Street Fighter and/or Vs. Games. Even though they're great, they're all the same core. That's what makes them established franchises.

Re: Review: Super Adventure Island (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

Vinsanity

The weird timer - an Adventure Island trademark, I know - is the only thing that blows about this game. It's a really cool 16-bit platformer otherwise, with that annoying little gimmick. I'm glad they got rid of it for Super Adventure Island II. But I wonder if Super Adventure Island stands up to the 16 bit platformers already available, like the obvious Mario & Sonic classics, but also games like Aero the Acrobat 2 or DoReMi Fantasy. Still, glad to have more quality on the VC these days:) So thanks Hudson.

Still want the three Rocket Knight games and Metal Warriors/Metal Storm (both of 'em) though. But this is welcome. And so is Sega localizing Monster World V, finally! I haven't played that since Gametap had console games and didn't suck.

Re: Review: MDK2 (WiiWare)

Vinsanity

"Unfortunately, Hawkins' stages tend to rely on non-combat scenarios and he proves the most frustrating character to play, feeling like a tedious detour from what makes this game enjoyable.". Dang, That was exactly what turned me off from picking this up back on the Dreamcast (and again on the PS2).

Still, it's $10. I'll probably end up preferring the first MDK in the end, since it's more focused (Kurt is easily the only cool part of the game; a weird dog and a goon scientist are not characters to hinge your game upon), but it still looks worth it. Especially since they did the right thing and did pointer/nunchuk controls. That should be rad.

Re: Interviews: Monster Tale - Dreamrift's Peter Ong

Vinsanity

Monster Tale is already my favorite game of the year, across all platforms. Granted, the only others are PS3 games from last year that I've been trying to finish up:) And some other back catalog stuff like - finally! - Beyond Good & Evil for PC. Still, Monster Tale is fantastic. Dreamrift is one of my new favorite developers. I just wish that, like Wayforward, they should move away from the DS and put some of their wonderful sprite art and chiptunes on current gen consoles. Please put up some games on PSN, XBLA, Steam, Wiiware, etc.

Re: Review: Chronicles of Mystery: The Secret Tree of Life (DS)

Vinsanity

I think I'll pick this up for my mom. I don't mean that as a slight, so sorry if it sounds ironic. But she got a DS for games like Prof. Layton and Quickspot. But full on point and click games ("adventures") like Broken Sword are too much. This sounds like a perfect blend of object finding with a little more substance.

Re: Review: Mighty Milky Way (DSiWare)

Vinsanity

Now that Wayforward has established "Mighty (blank)" as a brand, I hope the next Mighty game comes to a home console. I hate the fact that Wayforward doesn't support home consoles that well. They need to put some of these awesome, old school style, 2D sprite art games on Wiiware or PSN or Steam or something. I wanna see this wonderful art (and listen to Jake Kaufman's soundtrack) on my tv, guys!
