Re: Best Deals And Cheapest Games In The 3DS & Wii U eShop Sales

I picked up Runbow when it came out because it had the option for nine player local play! I had to buy several extra remotes and a batch of four classic controllers, but it produced some riotous gaming nights at my place and with a local meetup group!

It's another one that you can play on other platforms, and online, but getting nine people round a TV isn't an experience many other games can provide.

For anyone considering VLR, there was a bug in the 3DS version that can ruin your save file. It's pretty easy to avoid, so without giving away too much detail, do not save your game while in the "PEC" or "Crew Quarters" rooms. You can save before and after these rooms, but if you save while in them it'll corrupt your file.

Details here among other sites - https://www.destructoid.com/alert-save-corrupting-bug-in-virtues-last-reward-on-3ds/

@Minfinity

I played VLR before 999 and didn't feel like there was a problem. VLR does allude to certain events in 999 but keeps references fairly light, such that you can connect the pieces if you did play the previous game but it won't leave you with significant gaps if you haven't played it. It also doesn't spoil events from 999 so you can still go back to play that if you enjoy VLR.

Both are available on other platforms as The Nonary Games if you want, although £3.99 is a great price!

Re: Video: Splatoon 3's Inkopolis Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Wii U)

@sixrings

It's essentially a cosmetic change to the main lobby, with no functional changes. It might amuse those who played the first Splatoon, or indeed anyone who has ever paid for a digital hat. Cosmetic DLC is quite a business these days, even when it serves no mechanical purpose to a game that features it.

Perhaps a more optimistic way to look at it is that for anyone who wants to play the more substantial Story Mode expansion (Side Order) next year, can buy it now and have something to show for it! Otherwise there's no disadvantage to waiting until next year to pay for it, assuming you do want the second half.

Re: Talking Point: 20 Years Of The Best Game Boy Ever - How Did You Get Your GBA SP?

Toothball

2003 was during my peak importing years, so I got one shortly after Japanese launch - it went well with my two Japanese regular GBAs. For me the best thing about it was that I was able to replace the bulky belt-mounted carry case that I'd been wearing with a slimmer one, as I couldn't bear to be without video games (Snake on my phone just didn't cut it for me).

Later on I'd get a Micro, which meant I could finally remove the SP case from my belt. Then around five years ago I bought three more SPs to ensure I'd be able to play the likes of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords adventures. I never got round to having another session of those games, but I sleep more soundly knowing that I still could!

Re: Video: We Hereby Declare That 2023 Will Be The Year Of 3DS StreetPass

Toothball

I had a great time with Streetpass. Manage to collect all of the hats, puzzles, flowers, fish, everything! Did need to use my girlfriend's (now wife's) 3DS to get the last few ingredients for the Chef game, but it was worth it.

I'd probably do this if I still lived in a city, but I moved to a smaller town in the Scottish Borders last year, so the chances of me crossing paths with anyone else with a 3DS seems sadly quite remote now.

Played a great deal of Snowboard Kids as a teen. The best thing about it was the ski lift. Not only did it provide much hilarity when several people tried to use it at once, it was also a great opportunity to have a drink in between laps!

I would propose fans are not crying out for more SBK 2005! More of the first two certainly though!

Re: Best Wii U Games

Nitpick! Project Zero Maiden of Black Water is noted as "Given the mechanics and the excellent camera-based GamePad integration, this is likely to remain one of the few true Wii U exclusives"

It was released on many other formats last year, including the Switch! Don't mind the list otherwise.

Re: Random: Nintendo Doesn't Want You To Get Mario Party Blisters This Time Around

@KayFiOS

From what I recall you could buy each game (in-game of course) to play on demand, or just rely on encountering them randomly across the boards. There were a decent number of games to collect in this way.

It took quite a lot of coins to buy them all, as I remember setting up several 50 turn battle rounds and leaving the CPU players to do most of the work, before switching them all to human players on the last round to bank all the coins.
