Re: Final Fantasy XIV Director Still Wants The Game On Switch, Talks With Nintendo Are Ongoing

Timbojay

@dougphisig Coming from FFXI I didn't find 1.0 of XIV too jarring, me and a friend played it right up until the servers shut down ready for ARR's launch. It was a mess of a game with very unfriendly systems and UI (ah remember the days when there was no auto attack?) but after the ocean of WoW clones, I found that oddly charming in a way haha.

I fully accept I'm an exception to the general rule over 1.0 but I actually held no bitterness towards the game and seeing how Yoshi took it and overhauled it was damn impressive not to mention the fact any 1.0 account permanently pays less on the monthly fee of current XIV which is awesome

Re: Video: We Weren't Sure We Wanted A Zelda: Link's Awakening Remake, Until We Got It

Timbojay

I'm excited for this as Link's Awakening was one of my first Zeldas but I'm also hoping this is a sign of behind the scenes goings on. Like how the HD Zelda Remakes we got was the team learning their way around a Zelda title before giving us BotW, I hope this is the team learning their way around classic Top Down Zelda with plans to do a more developed Zelda in the future.

That and every time I see the art style I think 'wow I need a Zelda Maker' - I know it'll probably never ever happen but let me dream!

Re: Talking Point: The Pokémon Trading Card Game Is In Desperate Need of An Evolution

Timbojay

@Kinoen Why not play the video game? Because some of us enjoy the social interaction of playing physical games face to face with friends where we don't all look at one screen, can apply house rules, and enjoy the tactile joy of playing with physical items rather than pixels on a screen. I'm a big Pokemon game fan and never really enjoy battling my friends in the games, where I have a small collection of the cards and me and my friends love to get together and play some rounds

Re: Nintendo Celebrates The First Anniversary Of Super Mario Odyssey

Timbojay

I'd love some DLC Kingdoms - all the new outfits they released are nice but I feel no urge to boot it back up just to collect coins to unlock outfits which do nothing in a game I've already explored to the point where I'm done with it. I'm not done with the gameplay, I WANT to play more, but I've seen all to be seen and would happily put down some money for a few DLC Kingdoms, hell I'd be happy with reimaginings of classic levels from 64 or Sunshine! I hope we get an Odyssey 2 within a year or two

Re: A New Animal Crossing-Themed 2DS XL Is Coming To Europe Next Month

Timbojay

I won't lie, I saw the start of the headline, saw the picture, got all excited...then continued to read and felt sad I prefer the original AC 3DS XL one to be honest. Feels like a sign Nintendo are focused on pushing through a few more sales of the 3DS game off the back of the mobile game rather than coming out with a Switch version just yet.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon Switch News Could Be Coming In The Next Few Weeks

Timbojay

Maybe I've missed something, but it seems like a lot of people are reading 'Pokemon Go Integration' and reading that as 'PKMN Switch will play like PKMN Go!', If it does have integration I'd assume it would be more like the pedometer that shipped with Heart Gold/Soul Silver - not vital at all, just offered some nice bonuses. That being said, the series needs some major changes as it's become far too stagnant and slapping new mechanics like Mega Evolutions over the top of a stale formula isn't gonna fix the issue (and I say this as someone who loves and has played every Pokemon game), so I for one hope they try a lot of new things, I just hope they don't forget the core of the series while they're at it.

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Gets A Switch-Shaped Bonus Item

Timbojay

@MotaroRIP Same. I also feel AC isn't about graphics, so personally, I'd be happy with them reusing the 3DS assets (maybe upping the texture resolution) and using the simpler models as a way to add a LOT more content to the game on top of what was in the 3DS game to build a grander scale game. I just hope if/when we get a Switch AC the Mayor system is implemented in a more worthwhile way. Always felt like there was such potential there but fell short and was more a gimmick

Re: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Gets A Switch-Shaped Bonus Item

Timbojay

I can't shake the feeling Nintendo may be thinking 'We could continue to rake in silly money off this half-assed phone game which offers a fraction of the content OR we could put time and money into a full title, diverting the main-line fans off onto a game that costs us more and makes us less and then they won't be using the phone game to fill their AC void losing us even more money!'...I think the likes of EA have broken me

Re: Hey Dood, Disgaea 1 Complete Is Coming To Switch This Autumn

Timbojay

Yeeeees! I picked up the original back when it came out (damn now I feel old) and have been a major Disgaea fan ever since, but as much as the newer games have improved systems and brought in more fun mechanics, it always felt like they peaked too soon on the writing side, that being said it could be Nostalgia glasses but I've played through the game a few times and still love awesome characters like Mid-Boss

Re: Rumour: New Wario Land Trademark Suggests New Instalment Might Be In The Works

Timbojay

@JohnnyC I still can't agree. I consider Rayman Legends on par with Mario Odyssey, I consider Super Metroid on par with Metroid Prime, Sonic Mania is outstanding and a shining example of a platformer I feel reaches the level of greatness great 3D platformers reach (I'd put it on par with Mario Galaxy). I personally feel 3D games get more hype, partly because of a bigger budget, and partly because many people see 2D as outdated but personally I feel a 2D platformer is just as capable of greatness on the same level as a 3D one. Nintendo's big issue with 2D platformers recently isn't that they are 2D, it's that they keep trying to push 4 player co-op in them. I consider Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze one of the best platformers I've played in decades, I've put more time into it than Mario Odyssey and can't wait for the Switch release to go through again. The new Kirby looks like boring safe trash to me because it's so set on 4 player co-op (the same issue with the New Super Mario Bros) it's not doing anything exceptional. Look at 3D Land (was it land? the one one the WiiU), an ok 3D Platformer but good god did the 4 player co-op result in a highly neutered game.

One of the things I think we can both agree on though is '2D Platformers can/cant be AS great as 3D ones' is a highly subjective thing. Just like Kart Racers can/cant be as good as Racing Sims, it's very much down to personal preference. Your example of Rayman Legends is a good one for that, imagine the beautifully timed music chase levels...done in an open 3D world, it would be a horrible mess. Some things are better in one type of platformer over another type (Finding 800+ moons in a 2D Mario would be awful XD) so really when it comes to which one is greater at it's greatest, it's very much down to personal preference But yeah, I think Nintendo could still do some epic 2D platformers like Donkey Kong, but they need to drop this 4 player co-op stuff that is dulling down the endless potential of game design. (also a 4 player co-op Wario Platformer would be SO wrong considering he's a selfish money grabbing bastard haha)

Re: Rumour: New Wario Land Trademark Suggests New Instalment Might Be In The Works

Timbojay

@JohnnyC I have to say I don't agree with the statement that 3D platformers are better than 2D. To me, that feels like saying 'A Cart Racer can't be as good as a Racing Sim', although they share components I'd consider them two very different beasts. You personally may prefer 3D platforming, nothing wrong with that, but I think to state that 2D platforming is inferior in general, and not just in your personal taste isn't a fair assessment. Oh and as for the cost cutting thing, I'd agree, Nintendo is going for cheaper options on Yoshi and Kirby, no doubt because they know they could throw a world of money at them and build epic 3D titles which takes 4 years to make...and have nothing to offer on the Switch in the near future, and wouldn't make their money back as the brand recognition and fan base for Yoshi and Kirby (and Wario) is nothing in comparison to Zelda and Mario

Re: Rumour: New Wario Land Trademark Suggests New Instalment Might Be In The Works

Timbojay

I've actually been replaying Wario Land 4 on my old GBA recently I loved that game, and all previous games, always felt like due to his lesser popularity Nintendo used him as a testing ground, Wario 2 couldn't die, Wario 3 had the weird adventure where you had to revisit locations and so on, 4 had the awesome 'get to the end of the level then sprint back' thing. The New Super Mario Bros series scratched the 2D platformer itch but offered nothing innovative like Wario did, it never felt like a risk taker, so I'd rather see him reprise the role as Nintendo's 2D Platformer front-runner again personally

Re: Review: The Final Station (Switch eShop)

Timbojay

I'll never get why people moan about pixel art games - I just wonder if these people can walk through an art gallery without shouting 'OH MY GOD ANOTHER PAINTING! WE HAVE THE TOOLS TO MAKE SCULPTURES THESE DAYS!'.

Anywho - I loved this game on PC but due to losing my saved file gave up halfway in, I think this is definitely a game I'm gonna double dip on - such an amazing sense of atmosphere and dread and truly captures the feeling of 'oh crap, no ammo and I don't know what's through that door' Would recommend if you don't get it on Switch, get it somewhere because it's a really worthwhile game y'know...if Pixel Art doesn't offend you

Re: Video: The Mysteries of Evolution Are Solved, Pokémon is the Answer

Timbojay

@taps Hey there, sorry if I came across as referring to Americans in this way to you, it seirously wasn't what I meant. Actually the Americans I was referring too are vocal Athists who seem convinced that fellow Americans would be stupid enough to take my cartoon as an argument for creationism. I don't agree one bit, even people who subscribe to an idea like creationism are fully able to see the difference between a silly joke and a fair augment. Alas I was getting a lot of negative feed back, some down right abusive so I felt I needed to defend myself. A lot of european people didn't seem to understand my need to defend myself so I included the mention that it was mostly Americans who'd been annoyed because simply it was. Not because of their stereotype or anything like that, but simply because the vast majority were American.

Once again, I do apologise if my comment came across in the wrong way, it was far from my intention and I hope I didn't offend.
