I should probably play past chapter 2 of D5 first... It's a great game but so sprawling. The last time I played D1 I played up until a point at which I needed to grind a little, unlocked the item world and never played the rest of the story.
have to admit when I played the disgaea 5 demo it didnt really do anything for me so not sure this series is my thing
Excitement level 9999 dood!!
I loved Disgaea first time around, and the second time on the DS. Currently playing through D5 in the Switch after giving up on it on the PS4. D5 is a good game, if slightly unfocused with 3 million sub modes and bonus characters that can break the main game if your not careful. The thing that worries with the series is it relies too much on nostalgia and doesn’t build on new strong stories.
i get lost on D5, but was loving the story. To many options, every bad option to much grind... still... I will buy day one D1.
Well, I never tried that series and the 5 in the title scared me away. But a remaster of the first entry sounds like a good introduction.
Okay, so far it seems like I may gladly eat the crow about NL comments on this one. If I don't jinx it now, colour me pleasantly surprised. As for the game itself, what is there to say? An absolute must buy for me. It's been portable before but I couldn't decide between extra content on DS and more meaty presentation and gameplay on PSP. That dilemma is gone now.
Seriously, between this, two Valkyria Chronicles games (especially if the first game doesn't take long to come westward) and a new Fire Emblem (still slated for this year, so the season remains most likely), autumn 2018 is shaping up into a tactical RPG parade on Switch.
Yeeeees! I picked up the original back when it came out (damn now I feel old) and have been a major Disgaea fan ever since, but as much as the newer games have improved systems and brought in more fun mechanics, it always felt like they peaked too soon on the writing side, that being said it could be Nostalgia glasses but I've played through the game a few times and still love awesome characters like Mid-Boss
That's another game to add to my to buy list
It's gonna be an onslaught of SRPG on Switch this year
I will probably be getting this. Just looking through the Japanese site, it looks like much more work was put into this compared to the PC one. Even bringing in more generic classes from more recent games. I hope they add a cheat shop!
By September I may have bigger games at the top of my list, but if I have time to spare I will pick this one up
I picked up D5 but have not played much of it. I am interested in this none the less.
Might get this but am not sure I'll have the time to play it through to the finish. Will there be an option to save the game in the middle of a level?
Ive been waiting patiently for D5 to go on sale, and it hasn't happened. Sigh, looks like I may have to pay full price.
Is Disgaea 1 much different than 5, or is it mostly the same experience?
I have yet to play any of them, so I’m glad the first one is coming out for the switch! I’ve seen the trailer for the latest one and it doesn’t make any sense. I’m looking forward to remedying that by getting somewhat caught up.
I still suck massively at the series, so I barely got anywhere in 5 (once the Geo enters the mix my brain melts.) But I wish I were good at it. Awesome series in concept and feel!
Excited but its a sane assumption itll be a full price game when it shouldn't be like most other re-releases on switch . Looking at you Hyrule Warrios, Mario Kart and Donkey Kong. A 4+ year old game should not carry a full price tag when all you did was ad a track or a character.
@NEStalgia Its fun for sure and i know its built on grinding but half the time i didnt know where was best to grind and it got a little too much to try and figure out.
Yes!!!!! I was hoping they would announce this! I never played the original, so this is super exciting. I hope they bring over the rest of the series as well!
OH HELL YES! Day 1! Disgaea 5 was my first taste of the series and I easily dropped 200 hours into it! I was wanting to play more of the series, but didn't want to dig out old consoles to do it. Ecstatic to hear this!
Aren't we getting Disgaea 2 on Switch as well?
@earthinheritor I run hot and cold on grinding. I hated it in Bravely Default and just ignored it, or suffered through it. I loved it in TMS#FE. But I think in Disgaia it gives you enough free missions to not feel too grindy. But the geo puzzles, and never really knowing how leveled up I need to be always kills me. I think I like games with more focus than the sort of broad "here's tons of stuff, but try to get it right" this series offers. I wish I could figure out the right mindset for it, the world and characters are just fantastic!
My issue was the item world. I love the idea but half the time it was really hard to know what one was worth doing and what was usless. Also, because it was randomly generated i sometimes got enemies on platforms there was no way to reach so i had to leave the item world without killing everything. There was some major difficulty spikes too. I would be getting through ok then the next story mission i was getting slaughtered.
All that being said it is as funny as well and amazing characters and certainly a lot of reply value. Sadly as this is a full priced games i see no real reason to rebuy it when i own it on Vita.
Here is hoping the whole series heads to switch...such a good fit.
I'm a stickler on wanting a series on the same platform, so please bring on the rest. Never got to play D2 and I'm scared to play on my PS3 anymore in case of yellow lighting, so Disgaea series on Switch for me!
I love this series more than I love curry, plip!
Doooooood!!!!! Damn best news today for sure. I loved Disgaea 5 played 80 hours to do story and dlc levels plus some item world grinding. This my kind of humour and tactics 👍
I hope they also remaster part 2-4 as well. It would be awesome to have them all on Switch.
Good news. Hopefully the Switch version will be more technically competent this time. (D5 was 720p even when docked and with a very spluttery frame rate)
@SMW My thoughts exactly.
I should at least beat the story mode of D5 before getting into D1.
I was so lost in the item world and sending troops to other worlds the last few times I played I didn't make any progress story-wise in the last 20 hours.
Good news, of course, a new episode would be welcome but the first is so good. I can not wait to go back to it.
