Re: Talking Point: Splatoon Is a Typically Colourful Nintendo Dabble in the Mainstream Market

I know sales number matter to Nintendo, and user base helps bring more IP and have more players online. But all-in-all I don't care how much units the Wii U sells. The console is amazing. It has dethroned the SNES as my favorite console of all time. I'm loving the games on it, the way the games play, and the sheer fact it has Wii backwards compatibility makes it an amazing system that rules my TV. The only titles I play on my playstation are indie titles that I can't get on my Wii U.

This could be big. Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and amiibo are 'Toys to Life' but they are only toys to sell video games. They didn't and don't exists as toys on their own (Disney you could argue has toys but those are also to promote movies). Legos have been toys for a long time and have recently made movies and video games. Bringing your Legos to life in a video game feels more real and is more exciting.

First of all, thank you KnapNok and Nifflas for making a unique experience on a unique system. Of course I'll also be thanking you by buying this as soon as I get home.

I beg to differ on the replay factor. I feel like playing it at least 3 times already. Once alone, a second time with a friend where I'm the pilot and he's the engineer, and a third time where I'm the engineer and he's the pilot (probably in the reverse order of that). Perhaps there could be some extras placed in the game to further reward replaying but I guess I grew up on games like Mega Man where you replayed the game because it was fun.

"I don't think bad language should be such as big of an issue as it is, and that a PEGI-16 rating for the F-bomb is completely inappropriate". I totally agree. I always says words are the colors with which we paint a picture. Removing words is like removing colors, you can still paint a pretty gruesome picture. Any word spoken with malintent is a bad word. Still, I don't like it when my little one says the F-word either, haha.

Re: Former Nintendo Indie Champion Discusses the Company's Decision Making and the eShop Gender Divide

ThunderRazor

Splatoon looks to be an IP for Nintendo that is starting to break this trend. They have said the team is mostly younger contributors and it looks to be embracing more 'modern' gaming trends. No one can argue the level of quality Nintendo games need to have before the company will release them. So there are benefits to the current system as well. Gamers constantly want more of the same IP but also new IP. They want the games to be great like the previous title, but also totally new and different. It's near impossible to provide both sides of the coin at the same time.

I think in general games are in a weird place on all fronts and Nintendo takes the heat more because they are more visible and more responsible for global gaming trends. I've spend the last couple of years playing retro games because there hasn't been anything exciting to me. Mario Kart 8 brought me back to current releases and I feel the Wii U has the best line-up for any modern platform.

Re: Talking Point: The Time Is Right For A Nintendo Phone

ThunderRazor

Before Nintendo could move to mobile they must have save data backed up on the cloud. They should have a cloud back up option for all their devices, but I would say it's a must for phones. Phones gets lost, break, and are upgraded more often than their current devices. They could backup via SD card, but there is still risk there. If the games come from online they should be able to save online.
