Re: Yooka-Laylee Formally Confirmed for Switch Along With Wii U Backer Options

@jimi
Sorry that you're unhappy with the situation. I can't quite see why you believe that Wii U was the lead console for the game. The Campaign stated:

"If funded, Yooka-Laylee will be released for Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U. However, the exact release timing and scope of each version will be determined by the success of this Kickstarter campaign and specifically, our stretch goals."

All things considered, it appears that PC and Mac were the primary platforms, with consoles being the ports. Not that it really matters. As I said, I'm sorry it's not worked for you, I'm sure you'll get your refund. It has worked out for me, but even if I weren't getting the Switch I would have changed to Xbone.

I'm happy with all this. I pledged £15 to the campaign (selecting the Wii U version) I'm going to change mine to Switch and a digital copy was what my pledge was for and that's what I'm getting.

If you use Kickstarter, there's always a risk, you're not purchasing a product, you're funding a project. There's a reward but there's no guarantees of the value of said reward.

A conversation at NOE:

"Hey we can sell more games if they're set at a lower price"
"One discount per customer"
"But customers will buy MORE games if we offer discounts over all sales"
"ONE PER CUSTOMER!!"
"How about we keep the gamepad map for the Wii U breath of the Wild and use HD Rumble for the Switch, our fans will probably buy both"
"ONE PER CUSTOMER!!"

I'm not surprised that publishers are cautious. These games aren't cheap to develop and if those who buy your games aren't hanging out at the Switch, why go there? That said, the vibe with the Switch is different, I saw on the Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter page that lots of people want to switch their order to Switch and I'm not talking about those who ordered it on Wii U. People are interested in this device and providing the marketing is there, it will attract customers. By Xmas 2017, the game prices will have come down and public awareness will be high, I won't be surprised if it's the no.1 gift.

This exactly! Like most people remotely interested in gaming, I bought both the Wii and an Xbox 360. By the time Wii U was released I had already played all Mass Effect games, Batman Arkham games and Assassins Creed. As the Wii U was new, like now with Switch, all launch games were a premium price and I could not pick out a single game that made the console a worthwhile purchase. It wasn't until Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8 were all available did I invest.

Here lies the difference with the Switch, the launch line up might be sparse but at least it's clear. We all know exactly what'll be available on the day and what's coming up. The prices are high now but they'll drop by Christmas, which is when most people will buy the system.

The atmosphere surrounding Switch is much closer to that of the Wii and N64, people are aware of it and interested.
