First-person shooter Conduit 2 isn't even out on Wii yet, but already developer High Voltage Software is looking at transporting the series across to Nintendo's next console: 3DS.
Speaking to Eurogamer, High Voltage's Eric Nofsinger said:
Now that we're winding things down a lot of our resources are on pulling this technology over to 3DS. We're still early. The resolution is definitely lower, but the screen real estate is smaller so it balances out. We've not had a lot of severe optimisation yet, but we're going to be able to have something very close to this [Conduit 2] on the 3DS probably by GDC.
With development at such an early stage it's likely this is simply an engine test rather than a bona fide plan to bring Conduit 2 or prequel The Conduit to 3DS, but it could certainly pave the way for a High Voltage-developed first person shooter on the console.

Sounds good, hope they make a Conduit 3 or a prequel on 3DS
I would get this. Not that interested in it for Wii, thats why I have black ops.
Not surprising, considering that when High Voltage try their hand at things, they usually focus on the technical aspects instead of the gameplay side. Let's see what they can make the hardware do by then.
@irk: Yeah, a prequel feels just right. If Conduit 2 is pretty good, I don't see why not.
It's so funny, just last night i was saying they should bring this series to the 3DS. I"m happy it's in talks. I would totally get it instantly
Isn't this a tad early? Who knows if Conduit 2 will go butts up...
Knowing High Voltage, they'll probably make it crap... interested in how the controls will work though. Most FPS games on DS have awkward controls forcing you to only play for a few minutes before your hands are tired.
@ 5 yeah that happened to med too when the super mario 64 came to DS. this sounds interesting if they make it online multiplayer i may be buying it
Hmmm. I might actually get this not. I'll be cool to see how FPSs are on 3DS.
another reason to own the 3DS, and it isn't even out yet. I think the 3DS is going to have one of the best first years of any system, what's in line for years two and on?
YES!!!!!
Shouldn't they be focused on their game that got delayed so they could work on it more?
What Y2 said. They should see how well Conduit 2 sells and how god the reviews are first.
Well, I'd be interested to see the Conduit on 3DS for sure; High Voltage's Conduit engine is some of the best tech on Wii. It would only make sense that, since the 3DS is similar in power, the engine would shine on the handheld too.
But man, SOMEONE needs to realize that touchscreen "mouselook" controls are garbage on handhelds. Should the Conduit 3DS ever happen, it better have either a) a Metroid Prime-style lock on, or b) a Resistance: Retribution style "auto-aim box". Either that, or be Doom style, where you don't have to look up or down to hit enemies that are above or below you. PLAYABILITY comes first, especially on a portable console. The LAST thing you'll want are terrible finger-cramping controls like the current slate of handheld shooters for DS, PSP and iPhone.
But hey, they're High Voltage. If they bring the same kind of passion to customizable controls on the 3DS as they did on the Wii, a portable Conduit might actually stand a shot of controlling very well on the platform.
Oh hell yeah. I hope they integrate gyroscope aiming (like moving the device to move the aiming reticule, similar to Wii FPS's).
I Would like to see a prequel with a more serious tone like the First Conduit. Maybe you play as a Trust Agent or whatever and it shows the Deus Ex like world that must have been before the alien invasion
If they can pull it off I'll buy it!
I think they should worry about the wii version before they worry about anything else. I played the first one and i would consider it good for wii standards but there was alot of things wrong with it.
Story-wise, they have a lot of options for a prequel to the original Conduit. They could expand on Ford saving the president and "The Bug" that was talked about in the opening cinematic and in the manual.
Knowing High Voltage, they'd implement control customization, and they have plenty of options with the 3DS.
That is going to be awesome
Yeah what @Just10% said. i would much rather prefer something connected to Conduit's story rather then have a port. I hope they make a control scheme with the gyro and the motion sensor. That would be sweeeeeeeeet.
I suppose that's a good way to spread the name.
If it comes out within the first year of the systems life it will really stand out.
I'll be playing the Wii version though.
@15
Wouldn't that mess with the 3D effect?
@irken004 prequel would be cool.
Not interested. After I bought the first one I sold it like 2 months after I had it. I honestly hope High Voltage Software knows what they are doing taking this risk.. But it will be interesting to see it on 3DS.. But still i dunno.. I'd wait again like everyone says. Finish Conduit 2. Then, work on the 3DS version game.
Give me a fully loaded GRINDER on the 3DS, on-line multiplayer and all. I've been trying to get my friends to buy it, and having it ont the 3DS will make it that much more enticing.
Awesome. Don't think a well-known FPS series game has been announced until now.
Am I the only one who wouldn't want this to happen?
First person shooters were one of the only reasons that the DS could appeal to hardcore gamers over the psp. But due to limited tech specs you couldnt have clear enough graphics or good enemy AI. Prime Hunters was impressive but it was a little on the easy side. I'd be more excited about Prime Hunters 3DS, but this game is still pretty exciting. Conduit 1 was kind of bland and generic, but for Conduit 2 they're really expanding on the environments, weapons, and boss fights. So that experience would def. be awesome on the 3DS. and come on, it's in 3D. it's gonna be mind blowing. an original game is always cooler than a port, so a prequel or Conduit 3 would be sweet. all in all, i'd say this is a game we should pre-order. For one, its gonna be awesome, and for two that's gonna get a lot more FPS on 3DS
Sweet! Maybe they'll add some actual hit detection this time!
I can't be the only person that thinks those Conduit 2 shots look awful.
This'll probably convince my Conduit-obsessed friend to get a 3DS
I don't have any problems with FPS controls on DS O_O
It's pretty comfortable in my opinion
3DS has gyroscope, so aiming should be just fine, and i know their goal was always for allowing customization, so the tilting sensitivity should be adjustable and work out great like the wii's controls
now this is online play with the conduit
Oooh, I'm very curious. I'd buy this, if they can manage to make it work.
