Re: You Must See These Nano Assault 3DS Screenshots

Skotski

@Henmii
Right! Like Chibi Robo, and the Electroplankton games, and Starfy, and Rhythm Heaven! And... and... er... wait...

No, being bought out by Nintendo doesn't mean you stick to just their franchises. Perhaps if you make a successful franchise, they'd keep you making it over and over (much like how Game Freak only makes Pokemon games).
But it doesn't stick you to just Nintendo franchises. I think you need to keep an eye out on new IPs instead of just assuming that Nintendo never makes anything new.

Re: Miyamoto: We Want to Create Meaningful Download Games

Skotski

@NintyFan Well didn't they publish a lot of DSiWare games?
And most of the ones they published were actually rather good.
I KNOW I loved Flametail and Starship Defense.
And Trajectile, Dragon Quest Wars, and Birds & Beans were pretty good.
And let's not forget the obvious Flipnote Studio and Photo Dojo.

Not to mention the 3rd party classics.
Of which I actually have a good number that I love.

Re: 16-Shot Legend Takahashi Meijin Leaves Hudson

Skotski

That's the same technique I learned!
......... D: I still can't beat his record (been playing the 16-shot game).

The trick isn't to push down: The trick is to vibrate your arm/hand while lightly placing it ontop of the button. You vibrate it by flexing your muscle in a certain way.

Re: Talking Point: How 3DS Can Thrive at E3

Skotski

@TrainerOrange
Actually, if you looked into the history of disc gaming: They WERE developing disc gaming with Sony, but Sony had done several fineprint tricks in their contract with Nintendo that actually gave them full rights to the disc-technology... that contract had given them full rights to the tech, and the Sony Playstation was born.
;D Just a little background info for ya~

Re: Rumour: 3DS Developer Conference Next Tuesday

Skotski

@PSICOffee
So wait... because you're tired of waiting for 3DS games, you sold off something that also plays DS games and has future titles that many are looking forward to?

That's like selling off a kidney because you have no immediate use for it. ...I mean, if you were planning on re-purchasing the 3DS in the future and need the money right now, I'd understand. But that just felt like... well... an impatient move.

Re: Prepare for Dead or Alive with Five Minutes of 3DS Gameplay

Skotski

@Ren
Do you mean it's "an old fighter game" in the sense that it's a typical fighting game? Or "an old fighter game" as in it's just a port/rehash?

Because it isn't a port/rehash if that's what you're getting at. Though you would be correct that it is a typical fighting game - nothing wrong with that if you love fighters. ...story-heavy fighters? Well, most fighter games do have story - but you often have to piece them together from several matches and games (for instance, King of Fighters has a huge storyline - but you wouldn't be able to tell from just one playthrough). Though I'm wondering if you're just looking forward to something with more cutscenes (this does have cutscenes, but probably not what you're looking for). You might want to look forward to BlazBlue if you've never tried the series.

Re: THQ Cancels Saints Row: Drive-By for 3DS

Skotski

People have to realize that while they make fun of Saints Row because they "would never play these kind of games", it IS the more arcadey-fun version of the Grand Theft Auto series
.
And unlike what certain people here said, GTA is NOT a "ghetto" series/franchise/game. That's like saying all Final Fantasy games are ALL Clouds and Sephiroths. Or like saying all MGS games are all 10-hour-long cutscenes. Play the game for once, and realize the series has brilliant writing AND IS NOT JUST A RUN OVER AND KILL EVERYONE GAME (though that is what most people do when they're bored in the game)... and seriously, the only ghetto one was San Andreas, and unlike what people think: That game wasn't to appease the "ghetto wannabes" but was an homage and reflection to the lifestyle (of which I had lived with, so to all the snooty people that look down on them: Grow up, you seriously don't know what it's like).

So Saints Row isn't disliked (the reaction at e3) because of its genre, it's disliked because it's generally thought as a "wannabe GTA game". ... but Saints Row is like a GTA game that you don't have to take seriously. It's hardly as in-depth in its storyline and script as the GTA series is. So... most of you that bag on Saints Row? Are more than likely the ones that would enjoy it, since it doesn't really take itself seriously.

Re: Iwata: Wii Successor to "Offer New Ways to Play In the Home"

Skotski

@Gamesake: Not to mention that the Gamecube was a powerful little system! May not have been truly innovative in obviousness, but to be able to run better than its competition (though it didn't quite have the horsepower) in such a tiny package should have been considered innovative!

Re: Another Zelda Remake for 3DS?

Skotski

People who complain about the remakes and sequels, hardly look at the originals that are being made. XP
... such is the fate of Nintendo in this day and age.
Pikmin was hardly pointed out, Chibi-Robo's often forgotten, Steel Diver's often ignored, and the upcoming Pandora's Tower is barely mentioned.

Yet people see 3rd party releases or 3rd-parties-being-hired-by-1st-parties in other consoles and claim "OH THEY HAVE SO MUCH MORE ORIGINALITY"... yet barely no one seems to be asking the 3rd parties what they're doing for the 3DS, they blame it all on Nintendo.

If it's a remake, it'll be done quickly - don't worry about it folks. Nintendo still has time for originals, but they don't dish 'em out every friggin' month.

Re: Nintendo Takes Wii Party Out and About with American Tour

Skotski

Those in the West Coast who don't have Wii Party should seriously try it out. It really is a fun game with friends and family.

Trust me, I hate most minigame compilations, but I love me some Wii Party.
..........especially being chased by zombie michael jackson.

@fishman100
Say that to the East Coast.
Friggin' Nintendo store...
LA totally needs a Nintendo store! D:

Re: Review: FlingSmash (Wii)

Skotski

@vonseux

Actually, he gave it a 7/10:
http://www.thebitblock.com/2010/11/15/video-review-flingsmash/

The review's a tad harsh, but honest.

Thing is though: Several reviews complained about the controls, but the two reviewers I love watching the most (CGR & TheBitBlock) never had real problems with controls.
Which is basically telling me the other reviews are giving it the same "problems with Tenchu's camera"-form of treatment most games are given nowadays.
I myself never had a problem with "finnicky camera control" that most reviewers had, nor have I ever had the "odd controller set up" problem... in that sense, I wouldn't really trust reviews that say "bad controls".

But other than that, this game's made to be a short arcade game. Plays like block-breaker games, simple controls, aim for the high score arcade-style. Doesn't deserve the 3/10.

Oh... and go easy on the Wiimote, you shouldn't be flailing your arms at crazy speeds -- the Wiimote gets confused and constantly needs calibration (we all should've learned that with Wii Sports Resort Swordplay).

Re: GoldenEye's Success "Proves Core Games Sell on Wii"

Skotski

@Golgo
While you have a point, Little King's Story and Okami were hardly marketed outside of reviews (other than their magazine ads). Not only that, but they were both games where the concept and look made many would-be buyers "think twice" in purchasing.
Okami's concept and art seemed "too foreign" to many --- which is funny, because it sold MORE in the US than in Japan supposedly.

Re: Review: Disney Guilty Party (Wii)

Skotski

@Bulbasaurus Rex
You should probably include some games in Wii Party in that list as well.
The puzzle stages and zombie-mode attract a good number of hardcore player to play a few rounds.

Re: Review: Disney Guilty Party (Wii)

Skotski

@Bulbasaurus Rex
"Why can't these developers make a better percentage of casual focused games that don't rely on stupid minigames?"
Because that's the easiest bait for casual gamers.
Casual gamers, like hardcore gamers, are a finicky bunch. It's hard to please them, and it's easier to use an old worn-out formula than try to create a new one (much like how hardcore gamers encourage the constant stream of generic action games that never seem to stop spilling out... they'll always buy it, no matter what).

For casuals, it's minigames. ...sure, devs can TRY to use the other formulas (puzzles, sports, quiz shows, music, dancing, or something completely new)... but how is one sure it'll sell as easily as minigames?

Re: Dive into Conduit 2's Special Edition Only at Gamestop

Skotski

@Gamesake

You pawned a game to Gamestop? Are you serious?
Try selling to another store... you'll get more out of it.
I've sold a game to Gamestop and was offered $7, I sold it to another store for $20. See the difference?

Gamestop's a dirty trickster. I supported it in the beginning, but what it became was a monster... I ain't supporting that monster anymore.
Even buying from Amazon supports the developers more than Gamestop, and you can find most games cheaper there (if not used on eBay... which also encourages sales as it makes more sellers buy games... not so much at Gamestop, where they can manipulate their market to give them profit off of copies they were handed for free).

Re: Nintendo Download: 8th November 2010 (North America)

Skotski

I sincerely hope there's a review of Gods Vs Humans.

For two reasons:
1. I'm really interested in the game, and look forward to it.
2. To quiet everyone who's saying "There's NOTHING good this week" despite them not knowing the games. (this is only referring to the ones who don't know the games)

Re: Review: Sleep Clock: Record and Analyse Your Sleep Patterns (DSiWare)

Skotski

@theblackdragon
Please remember YOU were the one that originally attacked WaltzElf, don't act as if it's the other way around.

Look, I don't care much for watching what I eat (my only rule is "not too much of anything"), but I'll give credit where credit is due: Diet and exercise are important. Even if I don't follow the food pyramid (which is actually kinda' flawed, but whateva), I know its importance.

In the same fashion: Just because YOU don't watch your sleeping habits, doesn't mean the entire study can be ignored. Some people actually do get an exact amount of hours of sleep, some people actually do watch what they eat or drink before they fall asleep, some people actually do record how long they sleep and their sleeping habits in general. Are you saying these people are flawed?
And what if they actually are healthier?
What WaltzElf was saying: was that sleeping habits IS IMPORTANT, whether people ignore it or not.
You're seeing what Elf's saying as "You people suck because you don't watch your sleep." which isn't even close.

...seriously, YOU should calm down.

Re: Gothic Action Heads to WiiWare in Ark of Sinners

Skotski

@Link79
Castlevania Judgement wasn't that bad. Seriously play it after you've tried Tournament of Legends, you'd realize it's a hundred times better.
But seriously, get used to the waggling (it's more responsive than ToL and Naruto games) and camera angle (which only gets problematic with Dracula), and you've got a decent fighter on your hands.
(And those who say "It's Special-Moves galore" don't know how to dodge those attacks effectively)

But yes, a real Castlevania game on the Wii would be good (PS: Judgement was supposed to be a test run for an upcoming-Castlevania for the Wii... seeing that it didn't sell too well, you can realize why one hasn't come out yet).

Re: Review: GoldenEye 007 (Wii)

Skotski

@CaptainDingo

You tend to have forgotten that despite all the flaws (which all FPSs have due to the "me too" sentiment many of them have), it is a solid game.
AI being bad doesn't equate to having horrible gun fights (if enemies are placed correctly with the correct weapons in a good level design, the simplistic AI hardly shows... it's when they're singled out or chased into a corner that the AI matters).
Communicating with people during online catches can be an iffy problem (as Nintendo often forces a company to cut this feature due to its anti-family-friendliness) when placing it on a Wii game, so one hardly should ever expect that (besides, it never ruins the game - as this is hardly a team-squadron multiplayer).
And drawing lines to Call of Duty isn't necessarily a bad thing... despite Call of Duty destroying many FPS scenes for me due to their creation of the horrible generation of gamers they've created - - it did get popular for a reason. Copying from a rather aggravating franchise isn't a bad thing at all... the cover-system which was placed into games by Gears of War, is copied into almost every game now (which I find pretty sad, since the cover system SHOULD HAVE BEEN in video games GENERATIONS AGO). One can always borrow good ideas from other games, no matter how hated they are by a certain group.

And two last things...
1. The praise is in the multiplayer... which Goldeneye for the N64 shined on. Yes, the single-player was great, but everyone always went back to the multiplayer. If it was at least as good as the previous' multiplayer: Then it deserves at least a 7.

2. You do realize that 8 is VERY different from a 9, right?
It's not like they're worshiping the ground this game walks on (not like what other review sites are giving). The game, with all the fun you gain from it, is at least a 7. Being generous, they popped it to an 8 (probably due to them being happy it wasn't a horrrrrrrriiiiibbblllleeee adaptation like many were expecting it to be).

...and for the record, your "I" "I" "I" sounded like an opinion-giver until your last comment... which then your "I" "I" "I" sounded prideful.
Just sayin'.

Re: Fils-Aime: Nintendo's Biggest Current Threat is Apple

Skotski

Think about it, people.
How is the 360 or PS3 a threat?

When the Nintendo had the Gamecube, the PS2 and Xbox were a threat (well, mostly the audience being more interested in the options that the PS2 and Xbox gave).
However, with the Wii... how is the 360 and PS3 a threat? The Wii dominates in the casual crowd, and the Kinect and Move have yet to capture them. Most of the purchasers of the Move are actual "hardcore gamers" (mostly the ones upset with the Wii's limitations), and we have yet to see the Kinect's influence other than its large preorder sales (which won't mean much if the game sales overtime don't do great).

What can Microsoft and Sony do with Nintendo's sales now?
Nothing, until Nintendo sees it (and they don't seem threatened by Move or Kinect... they give a "too little too late" attitude towards them).

But who in the world is capturing the casual audience?
The very same audience that was enraptured with Wii Fever?
Apple is. Apple has had a hold on the casual audience for quite some time. Before the gaming community claimed the Wii was for casual idiots, the multimedia "nerds" have been accusing the Apple company for making uncustomizable computers that limit their potentials (also claiming it was for casual idiots).

But Apple was never a threat to the gaming world...
Until now. Games on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch are capturing much of the audience that the Wii gained previously. Many of this audience are losing taste for the Wii, and are now being very impressed by the iProducts! It may be simple, glitchy, prone to breaking, constantly needing to be repurchased for new features, and downright expensive -- but their marketing, simplicity, and style are enough to gain the audience. All that's needed are a lot of 3rd parties to support their product in order to fully keep this audience interested.
And trust me, look at all the apps, games, and support given by several groups... they're getting it done.
And now that Apple's touching the casual gamers in a whole new level (heck, even the friggin' Unreal engine is running on them), Nintendo SHOULD feel threatened.

While I agree with many that Nintendo should focus a bit more on the core crowd, I do see exactly why Nintendo needs the casual crowd to survive in the gaming market to survive (sure 1st party Nintendo games are great, but they hardly get any 3rd party support that are willing to follow their standards nowadays).

Re: Review: Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)

@LuWiiGi

We're just about as derived from British as all other countries have derived their languages from one another.
We may spell things oddly, but linguistic specialists claim our slang is "an evolution of language" as all languages have been formed from the use of slang terms and dialects. If you consider our form of slang rough, you should see the Irish dialect, it's almost nothing but slang!

Re: Review: Resident Evil (GameCube)

Skotski

People may be all for the PSOne, mostly because it was the first for its kind for many... so a remake doesn't give the same feeling.
That's the loyalty of nostalgia.
However, the PSOne version did have one advantage: its original graphics. Sure the improved graphics on the GC are grand, but the jaggy graphics of the original actually gives a much creepier feeling than the pretty pixels of the GC. ...lack of graphics can be used rather well as an atmospheric effect, whether intentional or not.

However, if that doesn't affect you... there's no reason to say the PSOne was better. Nostalgia is a crappy excuse to prefer a game. The original Metal Gear Solid CAN BE considered better than the GC, because of the lack of super-skills that the GC's cutscenes seemed to give Snake. Goldeneye for the N64 is a quality game not just because of the nostalgia, but because it's still a darn good multiplayer FPS - and the graphics were good enough to not make one throw-up (as opposed to many PSOne graphics that tried too hard and got too many jaggies in the process).
It ain't about nostalgia people, it's all in the game.

Re: New Conduit 2 Trailer Suitably Full of Bombs, Bullets and Bombast

Skotski

@Oregano
While it's true that all split-screen games do that, I've never really seen one get that jaggy...
I mean, hopefully that's just because they're not done with the game yet - and hopefully it's not just them not knowing how to handle split-screen well.

Let's just hope for the best and wait for better vids in 2011.
