Re: Review: Diddy Kong Racing (Nintendo 64)

This was a great game - but the colors really made me dislike this game. Yeah, a pathetic quip, but that was all that mattered to me: The colors were far too bright. ...I thought that Mario Kart was far better designed. But this brought a unique concept and sold it well.

@CerealKiller062
Indeed!

...though my PS3 is really just for the exclusives. inFamous, Demon Souls, and LBP are delicious exclusives. ....... but I like how Achievements look better than Trophies. Trophies look bland to me. ...funny that I take that into consideration, considering I don't really aim for Achievements except for the games I love.

Honestly though, if it weren't for the exclusives, 360s and PS3s would just be underpowered PCs. At least Nintendo tried to do something different from PCs... seriously, the local support for the 360 and PS3 is poor and sad. I had to buy TWO PS3s just to play my favorite games with my gf (and yes, I have two tvs in my room because of it)! ...and if it weren't for RROD, I'd still have a 2nd 360 to play with my gf on link-play.

Mind you, most of the titles I want to play with my gf on the 360 and PS3 aren't really considered party games - but it's still ridiculous how much I have to invest just to basically pay for a fun experience with her. Underpowered PCs that are VERY costly.

That's not exactly ripping it off. It'd be a complete rip-off if they worked the same way (even with slight alterations), but they don't. PSP and Vita may stream, but they wouldn't interact with the PS3 the way the Wii U's controller would. I doubt you could play a streamed game seeing entirely different angles (much like running a different module of the same program) on the PSP/PSV while other play what's on the screen. To do that, the PSP and PSV would need to download something (making it play an entirely different game that's interacting with the game on the screen. So that's not one program, that's two separate ones).

Re: Fils-Aime: "3DS Didn't Launch Prematurely"

Skotski

Honestly, I love my 3DS, but I will say it definitely did launch prematurely.
If they had released the eShop and the rest on launch day, there'd be a lot less complaints.

And let's face it: If Dead or Alive Dimensions, BlazBlue Continuum Shift II, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, and Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D all released on launch day: No one would have even complained that day. NO ONE (except for the rabid fanboy).

Re: Nintendo Not Interested in Producing Free-To-Play Software

@Waltz
The difference between card games and video games for this specific problem, is that trading is commonplace in card games. It's rare in video games.

Investment is fine and all, but availability can be a problem. This isn't always the best choice for all games out there. We tend to prefer genres and games to be split off from one another in these things. For instance, Champions Online - City of Heroes/Villains - and DC Universe Online all have different things to offer. Each have their own way of making the customer pay for the experience.
Some hate some, others hate others. Yet all of them please their aimed audiences.

For a game like Pokemon to go breaking the capturing-system that many people love without being a spin-off series? That can lose many customers in the long run.

And yes, devs throwing more things to make your game better is a great experience - but I think this is best for only certain titles. ...for instance, some games are best left finished once the story ends - others have several secrets that make the experience last longer - while others benefit greatly by constantly offering more and more.
... open world games tend to benefit greatly from microtransactions.

Everything else? Eh...

Re: Nintendo Not Interested in Producing Free-To-Play Software

@Hardy
Problem with that is, it'll take away from the game.
Imagine having all the furniture in AC that you wanted. ...what else do you have to do in the game besides expand your house?
The variety of number things to do is exactly what makes it better without DLC. This is a big difference from having games that give extra content rather than being a shortcut. Shortcut dlc = games lose their replay/play value. Extra content = adds value.

@Waltz
The problem with that idea is: Have you ever played an MMO where people can purchase new items with their own money?
It becomes a "rich vs poor" game. The rich (rich in the standard of willing to pay extra to unlock already-installed content) buy all the upgrades while the "poor" have to grind hours-and-hours just to get the item. By the time the "poor" gets the item, the rich have already mastered the item, dropped it, and moved to the next one.

...this splits the players heavily and ruins the fun for most.
Unless you can keep up in cash, there's no way it's a fair game for everyone.

Re: Rumour: Wii U is 50% More Powerful Than PlayStation 3

Skotski

Let's put it this way: Crysis is considered the most graphical-powerhouse in gaming in recent years.
Current console hardware cannot run it.
But PC CAN run it, and the newest PCs can run it without a problem.
The Wii U is said to be able to run it just fine.

Meaning: Even though games can be EVEN PRETTIER than Crysis (graphically speaking) on the PC, no game has surpassed it.

Think about that: If the Wii U pushed it's graphical capabilities to CURRENT PC hardware, IT WOULDN'T MATTER - because no game developer would produce games beyond Crysis as of yet. If anything: This is ensuring the Wii U is affordable, and not taking anything away from the software capabilities.

Re: First Impressions: Cave Story (3DS)

Skotski

While it's great that people can just enjoy the free version... wouldn't people want to support the artist? ...or is it that you'd rather pay for a new creation?

Honestly, I love to support my favorite developers and publishers every chance I get (as long as the game's good, that is). My little dollar ain't doing much, but with everyone doing the same: we ensure these devs keep their jobs - and ensure bigger devs are encouraged to make more quality titles.

Re: Wii U Games Using Two New Controllers Being Considered

Skotski

See, a lot of people want there to be more than one..
But a lot of people also don't want it to be more expensive...

It's like those who want it to be capacitive...
But still don't want it to be more expensive...

Honestly, I'm surprised people WANT to pay more for this thing.
This will already be expensive enough (compared to the Wii prices).
And as much as I understand that quality+quantity is a great thing: I would've thought that people would want it affordable first and foremost.

I'd assume Nintendo thought the same thing.
...and now Nintendo and I are happily surprised that people WANT to pay more for this.

Re: This is the Wii U Controller in All Its Glory

Skotski

@16 & @18
A lot of people assume they know what the public wants.
Nintendo often proves those assumptions wrong.

Not saying people who don't like it have a problem, just saying that: Nintendo often MAKES the market, rather than just selling to one that's been there.

Re: Talking Point: Where Nintendo Went Wrong with the DSi Shop

Skotski

@41. GreenInferno

Say the same thing you just said, except in backwards order and you'll figure it out....

If you don't get it:
If this is indeed an overpriced handheld, wouldn't you think we'd be onboard anything that makes it worth its cost? Since not all of us like Fighter games (and this handheld's already got three... that's one more game than all the other genres on the system), we tend to grab anything that isn't a Fighter...
...to make it worth the money we spent on it.

Considering that every time Nintendo's worked with Sony, Sony has backstabbed them: THEY SHOULDN'T get along.
Seriously, look up their history together. Sony and Nintendo has worked more times together than you think.

@31. Mario_Party_Fan_999

It's about 30 meters / 100 feet.
Enough to get someone from across the room or even on another balcony in a mall.

And don't forget, you can start your own StreetPass group. I'm sure there will be other hopefuls within nearby towns willing to meet up as long as someone initiates it.
...also always keep an eye on the most popular StreetPass groups within your country. Sometimes they do meet-ups in small towns.

Re: Japanese Gamers Put Off by High Price of 3DS

Skotski

Honestly I was far happier with the DSi launch than the 3DS launch..
Which was odd considering I didn't want a DSi originally (was fine with my DS Lite).
I had originally gotten it for my gf (she wanted one badly)... but after playing with hers, I really wanted one for my own. The DSiWare shop, Flipnote studio, the camera, the sound software - all that was extremely fun for me.

The 3DS? ... I mean. I love my 3DS, but I think it was really "MEH" without that eShop. ... it didn't have the eShop, it didn't have Flipnote studio, and I didn't want to bring around my AR cards everywhere just to draw a 3D picture when I was bored especially considering the risk that I might've lost the cards.
After I discovered everything there was to it (and the games), I had gotten disappointed... cuz I couldn't keep going.

The DSi's camera was more interactive for me than the 3DS... seeing that all your photos would randomly show up on the DSi main menu top screen (which gave photos much more purpose as some sort of pseudo-wallpaper)... but... what use are photos for the 3DS except for just staring at 3D? ... the ability to take in-game screenshots would've been lovely. And you would think that the Sound software would have the option to continue playing music when the screen was closed (for those who want to use it as an mp3 player)...

Overall I just don't think it was as exciting for a launch. I love the games I have for it. But... it doesn't hold my attention so much.
And btw: No I don't like Dynasty-Warrior-type games, no I'm not much of a racing fan (unless it's Mario Kart), and no I didn't care too much for Ghost Recon (mostly cuz I like large parties of characters in my tactical games).

...Find Mii was a fun little thing, so is the diorama thing... but... eh...
And the biggest pre-installed software for me is the AR Games... and like I said, I don't like the idea of accidentally losing the AR Cards (and no I don't want to just print out copies. I like its card-material).

"This will be my first MGS game."
And boy will it be a great one for ya'! MGS3 is considered one of the best titles in the MGS series... it often competes with MGS1 as being the best of the series. (each title has differing fans)

I, personally, love MGS3 the most out of the entire series. LOVED the boss battles and cinematics.

Re: TT Games: "Disney Universe Rips Us Off"

Completely agree with Bensei on this one.

...don't go spouting how they ripped you off when you've been doing nothing but sequels. If you were actually planning to make a game EXACTLY LIKE THIS in the near future, you'd have a point, TT.
