Re: Talking Point: When StreetPass Reunites Old Friends

Skotski

359 Streetpasses! And I'm missing an extra 120 due to my 3DS going in for repairs and losing the Streetpass data!
;D READ IT AND WEEP

....

Actually, I've met some people with over 1000+ Streetpasses... So mine's nothing to brag about in comparison.

...I live in a busy city, as you can see.
And I attend Streetpass events near my area. :3 I'm almost finished with all the puzzles! But those pesky pink pieces are going to be the death of me! ...some of the people I streetpassed with already have theirs complete though... :c

I wish you all the best of luck!

Re: Skyward Sword Save File Fix Wii Channel Out Now

@Gamesake

That would be Nintendo.
...this error is similar to their other games: a glitch that one would rarely get, and is near impossible if you're playing normally (as they usually have extremely specific conditions in order to activate).
You'll find these in a few old Nintendo titles as well.

Except this time, Nintendo fixed it.
There's the difference - but it doesn't make them like the rest.

Re: Feature: Celebrating 10 Years of Animal Crossing

Skotski

I love this game.
And for those who never really understood the game : That's okay.
Not only was it not for everyone - but it entertains a rather specific audience. The audience is much broader than Harvest Moon, but far more specific to a group that others don't really consider their own group (similar to how turn based RPGs and tactical RPGs entertain completely different audiences, yet no one notices it).
... Personally, I enjoy it for its sense of simplicity. The lack of goals is where it's entertainment is - the lack of need to rush forward and the lack of conflict also give it that certain charm that most genres can't perfect.

...it's similar to playing "house" as opposed to "tag".
While many would say The Sims is closer to "house", I'd say that Animal Crossing was far closer. The Sims is closer to "roleplay" - where there are goals sought when playing as a character - but Animal Crossing is far more casual than that... no goals, just "hanging out".

It's a game series that my fiancee absolutely fell in love with and one that kept me company during those lonely days of summer when friends started moving apart. I have a lot of appreciation for the series, and am definitely looking forward to the 3DS version.

Re: It's Official: Xenoblade Chronicles is Coming to North America

Skotski

First off: AWESOME

Second: ... one of three)
1) Operation Rainfall was a success and Nintendo of America's fear of releasing JRPGs in the West (a completely founded fear, as most have been doing dismally in the past few years) was silenced by the continued efforts.
2) Operation Rainfall had no effect, and NoA was always planning to release these JRPGs to the West. This is not so much the fact that they were titles that people were looking forward to: but more of an effort on Nintendo's part - as they had hand-picked these developers to create these JRPGs for the Wii - and they wouldn't have it exclusive to Japan.
3) Operation Rainfall was an effective publicity stunt by NoA. In order to gain enough buyers and interested buyers, NoA had either hired a person or planned to tease people enough to create a viral marketing campaign... which would boost sales and interest once announced.

I'm more for option 1. Mostly because Japanese companies have been very wary of releasing JRPGs in the West as of late... they don't do very well. That, and why would they wait so long to release it if they were just going to keep practically everything intact from the European release? And one last factor: Why only GameStop and Nintendo.com? None of these factors feels like a "we've been planning to do this all along".

Lastly: For all those "too late Nintendo" people (not just any found here):
:/ srsly?
Because a publisher didn't release a game quickly made by one of the RPG developer LEGENDS (Xenogears) - you're going to ignore it? Really? Wow.
I buy games to support the developer, not the publisher.
Publishers keep the developers paid and fed, so ignoring to give them money is like refusing to pay someone's manager... ...it's not like you can just donate your money directly to the worker.

Re: No Good at Monster Hunter? Buy Quest Rewards Instead

Skotski

@KAI7321

Single player or multiplayer?
Singleplayer's obvious: It was made for one and only one player. So it's eased by a gigantic amount.

Multiplayer's also obvious: How many times did we end up playing with a team of 4 when we went hunting on the PSP versions? I dunno about you, but I solo'd most of the missions on there... which is insanely difficult - but in the Wii one, you're doing those same PSP difficulties now with a band of players.

It probably is eased a bit... for newer players or for the flexible control schemes. But not by a gigantic amount. It was the right difficulty, if you ask me.

-also: Some hunting/farming is just tedious... I fight the same boss 50 times, I've already mastered fighting them by fight 10 or 20 at most. ...then it's just a memorized dance all the way through...

Which isn't that fun...

Comparing it to games you replay over and over again: In those (non-Monster Hunter) games, you're always willing to try something different to spice it up. In Monster Hunter, there's little room for variety in tactics for certain bosses... try something different and FAIL: and you'd have wasted 30minutes-1hour of hunting PLUS 1-4 hours worth of material gained from foraging/hunting/farming...

Re: Feature: The Revolution of the Wii

Skotski

@NinjaMario

You aren't the only one, and that certainly isn't the first time someone says it looks like a bulky remake of the Wii with an iPad controller - and that they'll pass. ;p

I ain't one of 'em though.
iPad controller would mean non-stylus encouraged touch screens - which I (personally) can't stand due to me having very noticeable fingerprints (I have a warmer body, and interaction with anything warm makes my hands warm up quickly... which makes for VERY easy fingerprints). Seeing that it is stylus encouraged (though obviously you could just use your fingers if you wanted), and the fact that there isn't a working CPU in the pad itself (it just transmits information, not saves anything or produces anything) --- it hardly is anything like the iPad.

What I don't get is: People are willing to miss out on great Nintendo games that people KNOW Nintendo will make top-quality just because it has a pad? ...did you guys miss out on the DS too? Those had awesome games. The Wii U is like a big DS (top screen TV - bottom screen pad) that plays home console games. How is that a bad thing exactly?

Re: Peter Moore Bigs Up Wii U's Online Functions Again

Skotski

@Swiket
You have to realize that there were those that had no problems with Wii's online service.
Having the "reasonable arguments" escalate to the point to where Wii lovers were seen as rabid fanboys just because they enjoyed what it offered pretty much gives anyone good reason to be happy for arguments to be settled... (hopefully, that is)

Re: Review: Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive! (3DSWare)

Skotski

Like others, I too love this game.
Wish it got a higher score, but a 7 is by no means a bad score!

I've done everything from making the Meadow stage into an evil-themed city (filled with darkness, buildings for trees, foreboding clouds, and large scan-bots for butterflies) to making the entire cast of Homestarrunner and Metal Gear Solid.
Also this:
Untitled

And while I agree that the controls are "negative", I've personally gotten completely used to them. You simply angle the stylus touch in the direction you want while still taking notice of the environment: pressing forward when there's a ramp will only slow your character down, aim diagonally up or down in the direction of where the ramp is going. One would say the jumping is problematic, but I say it just takes a bit of measuring the slingshot effect to get it down to a science.

With all the features in this game (you can make TONS of characters, have TONS of options for your character [be creative and you'll find that an animated exhaust pipe can also be a coffee mug, and a firehose can "shoot fire" instead], trade and keep tons of them from streetpasses as well - a large amount of stages to edit and challenge, take AR pictures, and lots of creative hints and formats in case you've run out of ideas) you'd be surprised it's a downloadable title.

I suppose it really depends on your love of creativity to see if this game is right for you or not.
But as a person who has played tons of "create your own" games from every console: This is by far one of the best ones. This is tied between RPG Maker and Scribblenauts 2 for me.
Don't compare it to Drawn to Life, it doesn't even scratch it. If anything, think of it as Drawn to Life mixed with Mario Paint.

@Burn
The 3D is barely strong. It would barely hurt anyone's eyes. I doubt it'd even hurt children's eyes. But like all things for the 3DS: There's parental controls that can turn off the 3D for children.

Re: Review: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure (3DS)

Skotski

People have to realize that this shouldn't be treated the same as an incomplete game that has DLC... this should be treated as toys that aren't sold with all the pieces in order to encourage collecting.

This shouldn't be treated so much as a game, as it is a game with toys (which is what it is, but people don't seem to catch that).

I can't afford it, that's for sure. But props to those who can! It looks fun.

Re: Capcom Considering Monster Hunter 3 G Western Release

Skotski

Considering that I only played with my gf online, I'll definitely consider getting this...
The online was amazing, but having to "keep up" with all the other players (what with the new challenges that everyone kept beating left and right) always made me not want to play after taking a break from the game for a week... I'd actually be fine with this not being online-mostly gameplay... makes me less worried about keeping up.

Re: Nintendo Promises 3DS DLC for Next Year's Titles

Skotski

Nothing wrong with DLC, guys. It's how DLC's used that's wrong/right.

There right way to do DLC: Make a full game, release it - create expansions for the game to keep the adventure/fun going and release it as DLC.

The wrong way to do DLC: Release a half-a**ed game, wait for feedback from players (like beta), and release every necessary improvements to make it a full game in DLC-form.

...if Nintendo went with option 2, we'd be doomed. Let's hope they stick with option 1. If neither, we can always count on Nintendo's pseudo-DLC (Pokemon Black/White global link... Animal Crossing's Nintendo mail).

Re: Review: Pokémon Rumble Blast (3DS)

Skotski

@bro2dragons

Other than the extra levels, new pokemon, extra modes, and far more code-downloadable pokemon... its got the Streetpass battle feature.

...I don't have the game yet, but that's all I know to it - which is enough for me to get the cartridge version despite having already played the WiiWare version. The WiiWare version itself was pretty darn big (the demo is barely anything compared to it), this is definitely far bigger.

If you're just going to "try" the game (as-in, try this combat feature but not banking on loving it), just get the WiiWare version. If you're actually hoping that this will be something you'll get into, get the 3DS version... because the portability is definitely nice for a game like this.
It isn't an in-depth Pokemon RPG... so the ability to play on and off without having the fuss of going through the Wii menu makes it nice.

Re: Review: Furry Legends (DSiWare)

@L_Brown

I believe he was referring to the idea that it's not for him. As in, after looking over the review, he decided it definitely wasn't for him - shame on that.
...unless he's just basing on just the score, which I'd agree with you: 7 is a very good number. ...unless you're talking metacritic-mindset.

Re: Brand New Cave Story 3D Gameplay Trailer

Skotski

@Yogsoggoth

Not completely... there's still the crowd who has never heard of this game and want to pick up additional copies.

And before you say "Who HASN'T heard of this game??", the answer is: People who don't frequent gaming websites and most children not in highschool. ...which is still a large number.
