Re: Review: Horizon Riders (WiiWare)

Skotski

@Link79
...and considering that it's on the Wii, a console considered gimmicky in almost every fashion by outside players - it's fitting and shouldn't be something to be complained about.

Your entire argument was thrown out the window by saying you've never owned or cared to ever get a balance board. ...that's pretty similar to saying you never owned or ever plan to purchase an xbox360, and that putting it on that console ruins the entire game.
-the only similar argument I'd accept was keeping the DBZBT series on the PS3/360 - when the Wii controls REALLY added more fun to multiplayer --- though I wouldn't go as far as to say it ruins the game, it just makes me sad that it wasn't as good.

Anyways, back on topic:
Yes, people are going to play this standing on a balance board. Are you planning on playing Skyward Sword by swinging your arms to simulate combat? Seems rediclulous to me.

Re: Zelda Gets All Lovey-Dovey in Skyward Sword Trailer

Skotski

@Capt_N ...actually doesn't Mario technically have Daisy? Considering that he did save her in Super Mario Land?

But Link... he definitely has more than just Zelda.
I'm not even a big Zelda-series fan and I am quite aware of his flirts from other regions.

Re: More Titles Announced at 3DS Conference

Skotski

@shinobi88

So... you're saying that the add-on is for EVERY 3rd party game in the future?
Well, you just lost. Because it isn't for every title... and it's optional for all of them except for maybe Monster Hunter. ...like MGS, works fine without it.

But yes, stocks did go down.
Honestly, they didn't announce awesome games that would be absolute system sellers (other than Monster Hunter, which may be also released on the Vita, so it isn't a sure-thing)... and there's still very few love from 3rd parties.
Understandable.

But your arguments themselves went downhill since your first post.
Don't act like you made up those predictions... you're one of several thousands who thought that. Just quit it already.

Re: Review: DotMan (DSiWare)

Skotski

I like that kind of audio though...
Reminds me of those odd 3rd party titles that were simplistic in style but addictive that released on the Playstation. ...like Top Shop.

I'm still planning on getting it.

Re: More Titles Announced at 3DS Conference

Skotski

Honestly, I was so sad when the original Friend Collection never came here to the US..... I seriously hope it comes here.
Trust me, translate it well and it WILL have an audience here.

I'm a huge fan of Culdcept since the Dreamcast days (though didn't get to play it til it got to the PS2 for the US), but I'm somewhat sad that it might not come here... the DS version didn't release here. I HOPE it releases here for the 3DS though.

SD G Generation more than likely won't release here (several of their games never came here)... and unlike many people who beg for the series to come here, I actually HAVE played their games before. ...you don't need to be able to read Japanese to be able to tell which button does what (though there is a trial and error). ...and it is a darn good game series, for those that like tactical games.

Culchobit looks simple and fun: the kind of sports game I'd play on a handheld. Wondering if it'll release here though...

Bravely Default is an odd name, but I'd get it. I support Square whenever they actually make a new franchise. Flex their creativity without depending on a brand title to sell it: good for them.

And definitely getting Monster Hunter 3G & 4. I love me some Monster Hunter, but strangely enough I never really enjoyed the game until I played Tri on the Wii. Dunno why. So I'm looking forward to it for another Nintendo console.

Me and my gf love Fire Emblem. So heck yes.
Oh and she loves Style Savvy... and she's excited for it.

Honestly, I'm happy with all these games. Though I seriously wish they'd release more games for THIS YEAR. Wish 3rd party support were more solid for the 3DS. ...they seemed pumped for it, but suddenly they feel so much more quiet or ridiculously slow with release dates...

@mushroomer
"I'm glad i skipped out on this stupid waste of money machine with just a 3d gimmick."

Er... it's only a waste of money if you spent money on it - and not all those who own one think it's a waste of money. Technically it isn't a waste of money for you until you buy it.

Re: Star Fox 64 3D Multiplayer Trailer Brings its Friends

Skotski

@Sneaker13
"Why do you want to look at a stamp size video of your opponent with 1 fps while you can just look up from your handheld and stare to the real life person in the same room."

Because you'd die if you looked up even for just a second...

I also think it's funny so much people say they hate the fact there's no online, when Star Fox 64 wasn't popular for its multiplayer.
...well, I LOVED Star Fox 64's multiplayer, but it was near impossible to get people to play with me when everyone else wanted to play Mario Kart, Goldeneye, or Dr. Mario multiplayer.

I, too, am kinda' bummed that there's no online multiplayer - as I know getting more than 1 local opponent outside of a Streetpass Community in my life nowadays would be difficult.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Dices with Fan-Made Board Game

Skotski

@Link-Hero
I agree with most of your starting points... except...well, you need to actually play a board game with fun people. Because seriously, if you think all board games are boring, you must seriously be playing the wrong games with the wrong people.

And besides: It's a fan-made product. It isn't for you. It isn't for us. It's the fan's creation. Their little side-project that they wanted to share. It's their interpretation of how a Smash Bros. game would play out on dice and board. May not be perfect, but then again, most non-funded projects aren't. But it ain't like they spent any of OUR money to make it. No real reason to complain.

Re: Dr. Lautrec Solves the Riddle of the New Trailer

Skotski

This game will forever be known to many as the Professor Layton wannabe... even though it has some gameplay mechanics completely and utterly different from Professor Layton.

Honestly, I just think it's trying to ride Professor Layton's popularity.
Nothing wrong with that, as long as it's a good game.
It's a marketing tactic through design.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Fan Influence Should Game Studios Allow?

Skotski

One shouldn't depend on fans too much.
In fact, one shouldn't depend on fans at all.

It's nice to listen to the fans, but it should only influence if the ideas and input is amazing... a lot of people think fan-input is grand and amazing, but fact is you will go through tons and tons of crud ideas, and several great ideas that can't be done realistically (either price or time) or done thematically (may as well be new games).

...add in the fact that if spent too much time for and most of the fans don't even pay for it on release: It usually isn't worth it.

Re: Talking Point: The Great Nintendo 3DS Price Drop Debate

Skotski

@Highwinter
Er... either you rarely use your 3D, or you have eye problems: After you use it enough times, 3D STOPS STRAINING THE EYES.
Your eyes are adjusting, that's where the strain comes from.

Also... Think about it like this:
Handheld screens are small. To make them any bigger is still... well... small. It's what puts off so many home-console-only players from ever playing on a handheld: They don't care for short, sweet games. And if they want a full experience, they'd rather have it on a larger screen with surround sound.
However, the 3D in the 3DS makes the world inside it much deeper. Instead of the 3D popping out, the 3D in the 3DS "dives in". The world feels much larger and with a lot more depth. It's like the world feels a lot bigger inside the screen without the screen getting any bigger.

That, to me, is not a gimmick. That's intelligent design.

Re: Review: Pac-Man (3DS Virtual Console / Game Boy)

Skotski

I dunno... I might actually get this.
I play light games more on my DS/DSi/3DS more than on my phone.
And to have one on my menu without having to put in a cartridge or disk into any system sounds pretty good... though still a tad overpriced even considering the convenience.

Re: Iwata Shoulders Blame for Low 3DS Sales, Cuts Salary in Half

Skotski

People are freaking out before anything truly big has happened.
Seriously, most of the games people are looking forward to on the 3DS aren't even out yet and people are saying that no one will ever get a 3DS ever again! And Nintendo will die! And oh no doom and gloom forever!

It's not like their DS and Wii profits were enough to handle this blow - oh no, not at all. They're doomed FOREVER!

Iwata and Miyamoto are seriously just doing an honorable business move. ...it's honorable to do, AND it's a business move.

Re: Nintendo Download: 21st July 2011 (North America)

Skotski

It's the strangest thing...
Before the release of Xevious for the 3DS eShop, I had always heard that Xevious was one of the classic games out there. Did it suddenly switch? Or was it simply THE example of which many games are copies of now? Or are there just separate groups?

Re: Capcom COO Thinks Monster Hunter Will Make It to 3DS

Skotski

@mariofanatic128
One can argue that Zack & Wiki is one of the most overrated titles out there. Heck, any game can be considered "overrated" if the wrong audience gets their hands on it.
Face it, the genre isn't for you - it's not overrated: It's just not your type. ...heck, I loved FFV more than I loved FFVII, doesn't mean FFVII was overrated - it just appealed to more people, and I wasn't a part of that targeted audience.

Re: Dedicated Gamer Aces Dragon Quest IX After 773 Hours

Skotski

For those people giving any negativity towards this... realize that this is a GOOD thing. It just shows how much content is within the game.

I myself haven't gotten anywhere near 100% - to ace it is beyond awesome for them. Seriously, if you haven't gotten the game and you're into RPGs, I'd just wonder why you haven't gotten it yet.

Seriously, especially you briunj04! I love Okami myself, but seriously? You really think getting 100% is that tough? Unless you beat the main storyline without stopping, doing the sidequests is hardly anything amazing... there's like a million other games with more content than Okami.

Also albc5023, it's not like he did it all at once. Considering that it's both an RPG and a handheld game - I seriously doubt he did this for weeks on end. He more than likely spread it apart throughout the years.

@MasterGraveheart
I feel ya'. I'm one of the ones who actually paid off my debt faster than anyone else, gotten most of the collections, and etc - but even that was a considerable amount of running back and forth being Nook's slave. ... I mean, at least for this game you're saving the world and helping people... Animal Crossing, you're doing it to please the town. X(

Re: Iwata: "Difficult to Launch Hardware Close to Its Announcement"

Skotski

@Pj1
It's so very, very true. Developers were outraged that their games that were planned on the console's release were suddenly pushed to rush. ...many 3rd party developers quit supporting the Sega Saturn after that little sales stunt.

It's a lesson for all companies from now and forever: It's better to be late with your release than ahead of its supporters.

Re: Nintendo Considering Automatic Demo Downloads for 3DS & Wii U

Skotski

@Mully
The idea of background downloads isn't just for the wait time for long downloads... it's the idea of browsing the shop for the next thing to download. I tend to want it to download in the background while I look around the shop.

Multiple downloads would just be sweet for me, as I often don't just buy one thing at a time on virtual products.

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation Rainfall

Skotski

Comment 100! (I hope)

... anyways, I've always been supportive of Operation Rainfall.
Like many have already said here: At least they're doing something about it.
While I don't approve of the ones who just spam and troll Nintendo with hateful comments and threats of boycotting all their products, I do support the ones who are calm and doing this professionally.

Honestly, unless the people actually SAY something about a matter like this, there's little to no way that Nintendo (of any country) would be aware that this was a serious issue amongst the players.

Besides, they're speaking with their money, not just lying. Many of the ones who have preordered Monado on Amazon ARE actually going through with the payment, not pulling out.
A good sum of them are intelligent and agreeable people that mean what they say and I'm 100% supportive of them. Keep goin' guys!

Re: Iwata Tells Shareholders "Core Gamers Will Accept Wii U"

Skotski

Hardcore had been a term since back in the day - the definition is the one that kept changing.

Back then, we were just gamers. If you didn't play games, you were a non-gamer.

Then we invented the "core gamer" when games had become gigantic in supply and varied in options - core gamers were those who played a large amount of games, while gamers just played games every now and then.

"Hardcore gamer" first appeared as a reference to those who played video games on HARD, VERY HARD, and INSANE difficulty no matter what - they were considered the champions of the core gamer.

"Elite" and "l337" gamers were the terms the younger generation gave to hardcore gamers as a new slang. But that died off quickly due to the fact that only jerks and elitists would use them.

Flash forward a few more years: By this time, the gamers, core gamers, and hardcore gamers were becoming older. Some had families, many had jobs, but for the most part they had responsibility. Terms like core, hardcore didn't mean much to them anymore as they had less time for video games --- leaving the younger generation with the terms.

The younger generation associated "hardcore" with what they always hear it in. Hardcore gamers were often seen as the champions of competitive games: Such as fighting and shooters. So the younger generation associated "hardcore" with "mature titles". ...and that's how you have the term mean what it is today.

Honestly, what I think the term "hardcore gamer" SHOULD mean is the opposite of a casual gamer. Nothing wrong with casual gamer, as that just means they have more important things to do - but I do find something wrong with the definition of a hardcore gamer.
I think hardcore gamers should refer to those who put more time into video games than they should, hit the 'Try Again' - 'Continue' - 'Restart' - or 'Load back to previous save' button instead of giving up, and stay up long into the night playing them.
They GIVE UP THEIR TIME for video games, rather than trying to find time for them.

I never liked it as a definition for difficulty or maturity - I think it should stand for those who continue to play games more than they should. You know... being "hardcore". It's a term used in other hobbies and lifestyle that express that these people put A LOT (if not too much) of effort and attention to detail to the things they love. Why can't it be that for video gamers?

Re: GameStop Will Accept Trade-Ins on RE: Mercenaries 3D

Skotski

@WaveBoy
Or more than likely: MANY people have no idea about this non-deletable-save-file fiasco.
Have you hung around a GameStop for a long amount of time? If you ever thought their typical employees no nothing about games other than what's on their computers, you should see the customers... most of them ask the most ridiculous questions...
