The price is disgusting for what are essentially games of a SNES standard.

The arrogance of this disgusts me. Why is he slagging off the people who are selling his games??

I hope it's not years away from release. It would be awful to waste all this exposure by not having gameplay or screenshots to keep the momentum up.

I honestly thought it would be sooner than that. This is pathetic. In fact, that's the correct word for Nintendo at the moment according to the Oxford dictionary.

Pathetic:

2 • informal miserably inadequate

Don't they already do this on eShop games where you build up points for an eShop voucher? I've had two vouchers so far.

For me, the big fail was branding the console a Wii and making it look like a Wii. Sure, make it compatible with Wii games and controllers, but have the system itself look different so that it is separate from the Wii. I remember watching the reveal and feeling disappointed that it wasn't something totally new. With the controller having a built in screen the Wii U should have had a much more hi-tech image.

So if Iwata wants to rebuild Nintendo I think he should get his head down and put out the usual suspects like Mario Kart, Zelda and Smash Bros and ride out the Wii U for 3 more years. Then we need a new console with some BRAND NEW games we've never seen before.

@gatorboi352 Was supposed to be out on all formats for Christmas and now there's no date and nothing being said. Just seems odd, therefore a total cancellation wouldn't surprise me.

Wouldn't surprise me if the game is completely canned on all systems.

@Mary_Yati I agree. And that's not because of some kind of blind fanboyism. But just an opinion that has formed after seeing things develop. See, PS4 and Xbone release close together and very similarly specced, making multiplatform games easier for third parties to do. So maybe third parties tried to push for Nintendo to do this and failed, so they've not supported the system. A bit spiteful.

@Laxeybobby I wonder if they could merge the home and handheld somehow. If you take a tablet, all it needs is a docking station, an HDMI out and a wireless controller. The graphics are very good even with Tegra 3 which is a bit old now. Something newer will look much better.

So Nintendo could make a tablet that docks for home play and maybe clips into a shell that provides physical controls for handheld play, and can be taken out of that and used as a regular tablet as well.

Nintendo should keep doing its own thing because a lot of the really big multiplatform games still come to them (COD, AC, Batman, Splinter Cell, NFS etc,) and they have their own amazing titles.

These developers can't be very confident in their own ability if they need to confer with console manufacturers about the new hardware ie, if they don't know what's coming.

@startropics3 There is a white & red model on game.co.uk so I just preordered that one. It looks amazing. However, they should have added a second analogue stick to save us having to buy yet another circle pad pro

What are the "high profile multi-platform titles" you speak of?

If such a thing were to happen, an ideal piece of hardware would be their own phone.

If they shut this down then they should shut down every fan-artist who has ever reproduced anything to do with Nintendo ever, in the history of ever!

Basically, they can't be bothered optimising it and will be using the next gen power to cut corners.

What an embarrassingly haphazard display

It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo goes first-party and second-party only in the future.

I've always felt that Animal Crossing should be something that's built into the system. I've played it on GC, Wii, and DS and got bored and left the game. So if the game is built in I stand more of a chance of going back to it between playing other games. Digital distribution is the way to go for me.

@MANIAC911 The game was widely regarded as rubbish. No point selling it on a system that's PERCEIVED to have a small install base.

The game is a turd.

With the exception of Steam, downloadable retail games are overpriced on console stores. They've still not figured out how to get the majority of people to make the switch to downloadable purchases. I think it will be a loooooong time until disc is dead.
