Re: Random: Fan Photoshops Masks Onto Every Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Character

Reydn

@NinChocolate I always thought scientists and government officials had our best interests at heart - but why did I or anyone think that way? What if they didn’t?

I have a PhD and am a Certified Industrial Hygienist. I deal with OSHA standards. The fabric masks you see most people wearing do virtually nothing to protect respiratory health, for the wearer or others. If you want to protect you need a surgical N95 (the type used in healthcare), or at least an Air Purifying Respirator (APR). OSHA requires that individuals receive a medical evaluation and respiratory fit test before wearing one. Wearing one without these things could put you at increased risk (exacerbate underlying respiratory conditions, poor fit allows continued exposure).

Call me crazy but I have seen very little in the state and federal governments’ responses that makes any sense. A more logical explanation for these shenanigans is that someone wants to control you. I don’t know who but pick your conspiracy - Illuminati, eugenicist Bill Gates, the central banking families, Skull and Bones, Luciferians, etc

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

Nintendo has always aimed for the non-hardcore, more family-oriented gaming market, and this just reinforces that. They don’t want to compete with the AAA consoles, and there is a niche to fill between them and smartphone games. The nice thing about software compatibility with this move is that developers have more incentive to design new or port games.

Re: Nintendo Switch Overtakes PS4's Lifetime Sales In Japan

The Switch was a brilliant move on Nintendo’s part - whether it was intentional or not. With the Wii they tapped into the casual gamer market, which was promptly overrun by smartphones. Nintendo couldn’t compete with phones and couldn’t compete on hardcore consoles, so the Switch hits that sweet spot in between consoles and mobile devices and recaptures some (but not all) of the Wii casual gamer market.

Re: Random: Leave Cardboard Behind With This 3D-Printed Labo VR Headset

@Stocksy The guy’s not selling them is he? I think freely distributing fan-designed hardware is a little different than fan-made software. The barriers to distribute software are virtually zero, where as this requires you to own a 3D printer and invest in filament. Someone could demo on YouTube how they made a cardboard headset, painted it with the Nintendo logo, and provide detailed plans - this is not exactly the same but similar.

Re: Random: Prince Harry Thinks Fortnite Should Be Banned

A little bit of gaming can be a good thing, but like almost anything, too much is a bad thing. Smartphones and social media are also addicting. Shall we ban them? The key is finding balance in your life - and balance does NOT come from one-size-fits-all government policies.

Re: Minecraft Update Removes References Of Its Creator From The Game

@Sandro89 I’m not on Twitter and I try to avoid following news of the clash right now between identity politics on the left and right (I think both intersectionalists and white supremacists are insane - centrists represent sanity). Why is it that we have to be identified by our group identity? I looked up a couple of his tweets, and in that regard I don’t appreciate what he said - but I also don’t appreciate the response. Aren’t we supposed to judge based on content of character?

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

@Alikan This was my thought - Nintendo attracts a completely different demographic than PC or console gamers (generally speaking). With the Wii, most families and casual gamers were content with the basics (Wii sports, Wii resort, etc) - and that demographic is what makes Nintendo's audience different from the rest. They pick up the casual and family gamers.

The Wii was successful for a lot of reasons, it appealed to the casual and family gamer, interesting and more intuitive control scheme for kids and non gamers, etc. Then the smartphone starting eating into that demographic, where phones and tablets did games well enough that some saw no need for the Wii U, especially since the controls were more traditional. The Switch will hit a sweeter spot and help bring back some of that demographic. If they are content with BotW and Odyssey, it's only Nintendo's fault in that they make such awesome experiences and can satisfy their players.

I'm sure there are things Nintendo could do to make it a little more indie friendly.

Question: was Unity able to export to Wii way back when? Having that capability now (for Switch) means games not designed to be graphics beasts will be ubiquitous - on almost every device you can think of.
