Re: Unavailability Of Classic Titles Is "Holding Game Culture Back", Says Platinum's Hideki Kamiya

Nintendo should create a retro games division to bring back old games that can be emulated on Switch and future Nintendo consoles, via Virtual Console but linked not to one platform but to your account so that you can move your library with you to the Switch 2. I would be more than happy to double dip just for the convenience of not having to plug my SNES/N64/Gamecube in. Having my library of Nintendo games fragmented on so many different systems is a shame.

Thank you! Yes, that was what I meant to say. I’m always a bit cautious about purchasing games on mobile because of previous disappointments, so getting it as a subscription that I have anyway means I will actually try it. Having it on Apple Arcarde also means good save functionality and being able to play it across different Apple devices.

I can't wait to listen to the music once it is released. Can't have too much good Nintendo-inspired music.
By the way, I believe one piece of information in the article is incorrect: you can sell music based on Nintendo games as long as you negotiate a licensing contract with Nintendo. Take a look The Legend of Zelda inspired albums at Bandcamp for example. Royalties are paid to Nintendo but the artists can still earn some money.

Re: Random: The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Opening Ceremony Showcased A Ton Of Game Music

@Splodge Another possible reason is that Nintendo didn’t want to be associated with the Olympics anymore because of a lack of public support for hosting the games during the pandemic - a number of the major sponsors in Japan pulled out last minute, with Toyota cancelling their ads in Japan and companies like Panasonic not sending their CEOs to the opening ceremony despite being assigned VIP seats.

edit: Just saw that the prevous poster beat me to it.

If you look at mobile chips in the smartphone and tablet industry, the gpu performance increases year over year are actually quite impressive (even more so than the cpu improvements).
Take the Geekbench Metal (i.e. graphics) benchmarks for Apple chips as an example, and this doesn’t even include the M1 chip in the iPad Pro.

I would be surprised if desktop gpus have had the same speed kind of speed increases in the past year.

The Nikkei Newspaper in Japan quotes the CEO as saying that the Switch, now in the 5th year, is halfway through its lifecycle and takes that to mean that the lifecycle of the Switch will likely be 10 years, so we are looking at a 2027 release for a completely new system (there may of course be a small upgrade along the way).
