I'd hate to be the kid whose birthday is March 15 or whatever, gets this system bundle for their birthday, then find out among their school a couple weeks later how awesome the 3DS is.
Neat bundle, but its gonna be a major collectors item when everyone skips it to get the 3DS. I can't believe nintendo is cutting it this close for a first party DS game. They'd NEVER do that with Mother on the NES or Mother 3 for the GBA in English when those systems were at their end.
Either practices have changed lately, or maybe they figure its Pokemon so it'll sell a crap ton no matter what they do...
I'm not really much for "casual" or "sports" games, but two of those first party games, PilotWings and Steel Diver are sure buys for me. 1st party developed games are always worth the money. I might get one of the Nintendogs + Cats someday though.
I'm particularly excited for Steel Diver because I know many people who aren't because its not established, but that's partly why I'm excited for this new IP. It'll be like Radar Mission, Solar Striker, and Mole Mania back when they were released, and this game might become a "hidden gem" someday.
David Wise, Grant Kirkhope, and many other key employees are gone now and seeing the crappy games they've made the past few years, I don't care about them anymore. Diddy Kong Racing DS is the last game of theirs I bought, and it will probably be so in the long run.
I'll only care about a 3DS port of all their n64 games with updates (BK,BT,JFG especially). It's been a dream of mine to play a flawless portable port of Banjo-Kazooie. I only hope that someday happens.
This is why I gave up on the vc two years ago. I'm sick of this one crappy game trickling out every other week crap. Once a year we get something like Ufouria or Bio Miracle Bokkute Upa, and I like access to games on other systems I don't own, but it's literally faster to just load up the original system anyway without having to wait for the SD card to load. I've been collecting the originals without the defunct company red tape BS and having to wait for a game to release that's already been released 20 years ago!
That's cool but one thing I hate about collecting cards like this is that means they're gonna have promos, with some only available in Japan. It's gonna be the e-reader allll over again with a 3DS Mario game where most of the new levels are only in Japan. >.>
huh never thought of it that way. So we're getting two Zelda games in the same year (OoA and OoS don't really count as they were together) to essentially celebrate the 25th anniversary. That'd be funny if Skyward Sword was secretly really finished last year but intentionally delayed to celebrate the occasion.
It's a great game, I just wish the roll was a button, you could hit enemies using momentum gathered from previous enemies hit (now you need Diddy running on you), you only need to hold the jump button to jump higher off an enemy and press the button twice to use the jetpack instead (a reversal of what they have).... pretty much they only needed to copy the control scheme of the Donkey Kong Land games and it would have been perfect and I wouldn't have to keep breaking my old DKC habits.
"Up in the air, Pit controls like a dream: it's very easy to zip about with the Circle Pad and take down targets by aiming with the stylus"
Yeah, if you're right-handed. It's a shame a lefty didn't try out the game. I'm sure I'll "get used to it" over time, but there will probably be some spots in the game requiring quick reflexes I'll be screwed on. Whatever, I'll try it out in the store at release, and if it's how I think it will be, I won't buy the game no matter how good it is.
I hope the AR cards will be released like collectible trading cards. But I also hope they won't become like the SMA4:SMB3 cards, where most weren't released in the west.
Whatever, I expected it to end. Every nintendo console has an average lifespan of 5-8 years. The NES and original gameboy were the longest so I expected this gen to end at this time years ago. At least it wasn't like the GBC lasting barely 3 years. >.>
I have to put the system down sometime, so what better way than to have it charge on the table in a cradle? It removes the hassle of setting up the ac adapter and moving the cord away from my pets. Brilliant idea. Better than my DSlite. Who really needs to play more than 3 hours at a time anyway?
I'm glad there is a new 1st party IP so i'm excited for this. It reminds me of Solar Striker, Mole Mania, Radar Mission, and other 1st party gameboy nintendo games that have been forgotten. Hopefully ports/remakes of those will come someday.
I hope Steel Diver is more compelling than awfully
I don't get it. We get crap like FF XIII to come Stateside, yet other actually good RPGs like Mother 3 and possibly Last Story (wouldn't know, can't play it) don't have a worldwide release!?!
I didn't particularly like Mario Hoops 1 VS 3 on the DS (yes, your teammates do NOTHING). While that was fun for just playing to mess around, actually trying to get anywhere to unlock things is frustratingly difficult by the controls and AI (problems that also vastly affected Mario Kart Wii). So I think I'll skip this like the rest of the Mario sports games lately.
Good to get the rest of the sports out of the way in one big package.
sharp lines instead of curves to "look cool"? No wonder the designs of the new pokemon suck. They try too hard and most don't even look like animals anymore with all their weird shapes and designs on them. But it IS pokemon, and the game will be highly addicting.
"The thick tail that emphasizes their powerfulness" yeah kinda like people carrying big objects to compensate for their small you-know-whats? I think I'll wait for the third (and always best of its generation) game to come out next year: Pokemon Gray!
Damn that would have been awesome. They could've even made it with swappable buttons on the right side of the screen so you could have a left-handed version! Who cares if they get lost, that's the peoples problem. So many more possibilities with this like 4 thumb pads.
But NOOOO they just HAD to fill the system with a bunch of useless crap underneath the shell on the right side of the screen like cords and circuit boards and stuff.
Yeah that's some serious BS but just add it to the usual pile of BS we've heard about the system and it hasn't been launched yet! If anyone has a problem with the price, limited colors, games, style, weight, or whatever just wait for the holidays of 2011. I'm sure Nintendo would do a price drop in 9 months after release, especially since it'll be the holidays and everyone will want one.
These launch prices and things are always a scam to get more money out of gullible people that "need" the system as early as possible. You can wait. Think of how many games you've "been dieing" to get, then when you get them it's great sure, but for how long? Who here still obsesses over games like Twilight Princess and SSBB? I haven't even finished TP and I can already tell you the excitement is gone.
Just wait for the Wii's successor to be announced and everyone will go crazy over it just like everything else in the past and eventually won't give a crap about the 3DS anymore because they've already played it. Just wait and search your feelings, you know this to be true. We all have console lust, and the important thing is to learn to WAIT and not give into the temptation and impatience these people want us to do by ripping us off!
Another one of my jokes "mysteriously disappeared." Seriously? Whatever. You guys should be happy about getting the system earlier.
I'm glad there is a confirmation as to the games that will be released within the first three months of the consoles released existence. Asphalt Urban GT and Ridge Racer DS were the launch titles for the original DS so its nostalgically ironic to see that here. All the Nintendo releases are instant buys as usual.
But jeez Ubisoft, 6 titles? What an overload of shovelware! in the old days the big N wouldn't allow a company to release more than 5 games a year for a reason (to avoid market oversaturation with crap). Hopefully Rayman 3D will be good.
I only have the DS version, and have been meaning to get the N64 one, but I don't like all the stupid crap in this game like that Globox guy. Maybe playing a "true" version of this game will change my mind, but so far no other Rayman game beats the original on Ps1 and GBA.
The same thing happened with Taito and Square-Enix, so its not that bad of a shock. The way I see it, it's just two of my favorite companies merging together into one!
Eventually all the good 3rd party NES companies that are still left will unite under Capcom, Konami, and Squenix. All that matters to me is if we're still going to get all those classic Hudson games ported to the 3DS like Bomberman Hero (extremely underrated).
@HolyMackerel yeah I kinda figured that was the case. Oh well. At least it's a good reason for being black, rather than saying the DSlite is red when in actuality its all black with a red plastic plate glued on top. Still having most of the system red as shown in the famous stock photos we've seen a million times for months is better and I find that acceptable... except red isn't a launch color now so WTF Nintendo is it gonna be like those 6 colors of the wii we never saw? Hopefully not.
lets see: short supply of systems, high launch price, very few games available, limited color options, not knowing what to really expect of the new system....
yeah I've been down that road with the gamecube, GBA, DS, and Wii. I think I'll wait for once thanks.
EWE!! What dreadful colors! Seriously we havent had an all-red portable nintendo system since the GB pocket and I want one! Its bad enough its not made for left-handers! Typical NOA stereotypes my demographic as all hardcore afraid of bright colors! black and blue. UGH EW EW. Where is yellow and lime green like the Gameboy Color or all the neat colors Europe got for the DSi!? huh?!
/Exaggeration aside, I'm serious about someday getting an all-red portable 3DS. The DSlite with a red shell was a disappointment. I guess this is all just more reasons to feel better to wait a few months after release when I have money. I expected the price and lack of launch titles.
btw, I've learned enough seeing the Wii's launch not to buy into the immediate hype of owning one of these. By waiting a year at least it will be cheaper and more colors available. For most of us, we only get one chance to get the system so we have to pick that color carefully. Its a shame all the cool colors happen far later (mario anniversary dsi). A red and black wii would be cool, but I'm fine with owning my first all-white vidyagame system.
"we want to ensure the best possible gaming experience for our users and there is the possibility that Nintendo 3DS software sold in one region will not function properly when running on Nintendo 3DS hardware sold in another."
This sentence is a contradiction when taking into account a game NOA doesn't want us to play like Mother 3. Hardly seems to be in the gamers' best interest.
Are left-handers' really getting the shaft? Will there be some sort of "compensation" for their handicap? This is a serious question and having to adapt to everything in life is already a pain. Give us a break for once.
Good about time! A few months ago I played this game on emulator one day and got pretty far in it. It's fun for what it is. I was going to import it but didn't have money at the time and it was too expensive anyway. Either I'll finish my already existing file or I'll have to buy it when it comes.
Now if we can just get Tingle's Rosey Ruppee Land (yeah right that won't happen).
Bwahaha yeah right 4 mil is nowhere NEAR enough. Its the Wii shortage all over again. So 1.5 million for the UK and US (sadly leaving the rest of the world out of it). If divided evenly, that would mean about 750,000 units for each territory. With Nintendo's big E3 hype started last year, everyone whose seen one will want one. That means in the US 300,000 will go to various places in California, another 300,000 to various places in New York, and 150,000 go to various places for the other 48 states. >.>
Yeah I'm definitely waiting now. It was enough of a pain with trying to get a Wii so I'm not falling for that again.
This looks incredibly boring and those hydra voices were incredibly dumb. This seriously looks WAY too much like SAP 2 (not that that's bad I guess) but this gameplay doesn't look very deep at all. I was hoping for more of a Kid Icarus II feel because platformers are my favorite genre. Yes I know the original Kid Icarus wasn't very "deep" but there is a lot of things you could do with a platformer these days. Having to dodge things looks a lot like No More Heroes.
Also right-handers have been telling us lefties to sit down and shut up about no lefty controls for some time now, claiming "oh its just poking the screen not actually writing." Well from the looks of this it appears the cross hair has to be dragged across the screen the entire time so it looks like lefties still have a valid argument to me. Anyway it just further gives me a reason to delay my purchase of the 3DS for at least a couple months to see how everything works out (my bday is in May anyway).
Ahh I remember seeing this game in the arcade in 2002 before I ever heard of the series. I played it for the first time not knowing what to expect and upon playing the first level (and never beating it) It felt hard but not "extremely" hard. Something about the game kept wanting me to come back to it after I left and played other games. Maybe its the music, graphics, and controls. Of course Pole Position, R-Type II, Metal Slug, and Ice Climber were great at that arcade too.
Seriously, a joystick and concave buttons are the way to play this game. I spent many years looking into this series hoping to play it again (specifically the arcade version) and could only find the weird sequels. The PSP version might be the penultimate title for the simple addition of *ahem idk, BEING ABLE TO SHOOT DIRECTLY ABOVE AND BELOW YOU!
There are many flaws with the series as stated in this review, but this game is fun to just pick up and play without trying to beat it. It had better be released in the States!
The year 1999 when I got an N64 finally after 3 years of asking for one. Only problem was my grandma put my brothers name on the tag. Nevertheless, we played Bomberman Hero all night which is a far better game than people give it credit for. All those great gaming memories of Smash Bros and everything. My brother and I accumulated 30 N64 games the year after we got the system, being all the good games made for it of course. I'm glad we got Bomberman 64 2 when we did.
Getting my NES and Gameboy Pocket (first gameboy) were pretty sweet also. I remember saying "wow! Super Mario Land! But I don't have a gameboy!" when I opened the present, with my grandparents saying, "well, you never know you might get one." Of course one of my later presents was a black gameboy pocket. I think my parents hate me getting video games because I got an NES too but I never saw it again after Christmas day...
Of course I've showed them now with my massive NES collection and top loader!
Exactly what I've been saying all along. Thank you. Of course anyone born after 1995 would and should pick this up. But it's pretty inexcusable to not put more effort into this. Back then it made sense to release only those games because they were the only ones we had.
Another important reason SMAS+SMW should have been used instead is it's the only version of SMW that has the updated Luigi sprite that isn't in the VC release. Nintendo chose to release this rom on disc because they knew no one would download a $30 SNES game, because if they included it with the other SNES games for 800 pts they'd obviously lose money.
I thought Yoshi's Island couldn't be emulated on VC also! Perfect missed opportunity. :<
I hope this game is just as challenging as the first time I played the original at 5 years old. Then I can play the game 15 or so years later repeatedly and breeze right through it still having as much fun as the first time.
You spelled one of the names wrong. It's supposed to be "PSICOffee" . I'm actually a little relieved I didn't win to be honest, as I can't possibly think of any NES game for 500 points I'd get that I don't already have! :<

I <<<33333 this game! This game never gets the recognition it deserves and it's generally hated by "true" bomberman fans. I'm so happy.

Re: Review: Ghosts 'n Goblins (Virtual Console / Virtual Console Arcade)
Re: Talking Point: Your Favourite Nintendo Christmas Memories
Re: Talking Point: Your Nintendo Christmas Presents
I got a slap across the face.
Re: Review: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition (Wii)
Re: If Donkey Kong Country Returns is Too Hard, Use Super Guide
I hope this game is just as challenging as the first time I played the original at 5 years old. Then I can play the game 15 or so years later repeatedly and breeze right through it still having as much fun as the first time.
Re: Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Contest Winners
You spelled one of the names wrong. It's supposed to be "PSICOffee" . I'm actually a little relieved I didn't win to be honest, as I can't possibly think of any NES game for 500 points I'd get that I don't already have! :<
Re: Miyamoto and Reggie Honour Mario's 25th with Amazing Cake
that is such an awesome party. I've seen a lot of amazing cakes before on Cake Boss but this cake definitely takes the cake!
Re: Former Pussycat Doll Brings Glamour to GoldenEye Soundtrack
That's cool and I'm glad they are going this far for the game, but I'll wait for the reviews.
