Remember when you heard those awesome limited edition Pokémon DSi consoles were heading to Europe, and how you hoped the same units would reach North American gamers on March 6th? Your wishes just came true, as Nintendo of America has confirmed the black and white machines are making the trip across the pond.
The limited edition etched black and white bundles both contain the chromatically co-ordinated game, as well as an exclusive carry case bearing the likeness of Reshiram or Zekrom, again depending on the pigment you pick.
The bundles will set you back around $179.99 each, and are available to pre-order at many retailers right now.
Limited-Edition Etched Nintendo DSi Bundles Commemorate Launch of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version Games
Starting March 6, Nintendo will offer consumers an especially exciting way to experience the new Pokémon™ Black Version and Pokémon White Version video games. Two limited-edition etched black and white Nintendo DSi™ bundles will be available at retailers while supplies last.
The black system bundles will be packaged with the Pokémon Black Version game, while the white system bundles will be packaged with a copy of the Pokémon White Version game. Both the black systems and white systems will feature the new Legendary Pokémon Reshiram™ and Zekrom™ etched onto the casing. Reshiram and Zekrom are among the more than 150 never-before-seen Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version. The bundles will also include a custom Pokémon Nintendo DSi carrying case. Each bundle will be offered at a suggested retail price of $179.99.
Players can enjoy the majority of the games’ features on any type of Nintendo DS™ system, but when played on the Nintendo DSi or Nintendo DSi XL™ systems, players can use the games’ new Xtransceiver device to engage in video chat with others after exchanging Friend Codes. Up to four players can use the Xtransceiver via a local wireless connection, and two players can experience the feature online via the Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection service (broadband Internet access required). When played on an original Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite system, the feature enables voice chat. All players can exchange written messages using the touch screen.
The individual Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games will launch on March 6, and are now available for pre-order from major retailers throughout North America for a suggested retail price of $34.99 each. A deposit may be required for pre-orders. See individual retailers for details.

I will never understand Pokemon but to each his own.
yay
Why Nintendo? WHY!!?? If it was just one special system I may have been able to put the money together to get it but TWO!? The 3DS is coming out in a month Nintendo! How much money do you think I have???
I don't think they want you to buy both.
Why not the DSi XL? If it were that I'd consider getting a bundle for my oldest's birthday.
Nintendo you placed the limited Edition DSi's at the completely wrong time. Re release them in 3DS form.
I know they don't expect the normal consumer to buy both but I ain't the normal consumer. I'm a collector and not owning these systems is gonna kill me! I almost always find a way to have the money for all the special crap Nintendo puts out but 2 special DSi systems, the 3DS, and 5 3DS games I want is just too much for me....
>awesome face
Well, you could sell some collectibles and buy these!
...sell collectibles....to buy more collectibles o_O Blasphemy! I collect the collectibles, therefore I could not sell them as they are part of my collection
I'll be getting a white, not for the game but for the console.
These are pretty cool, but completely pointless so close to release of the 3DS.
I would love to get one of these, but I already have a DSi, and I'm gonna get a 3DS. Love the design though.
It's pointless for these to come out with the 3DS around the corner.
@11 and 13
My thoughts exactly.
Nintendo waited way too long to release this. Not many people are going to buy it because the 3DS is coming up. I predict a flop. Too bad, because that's a really cool-looking DSi.
These are pretty pointless but they will still sell well. There are lots of people(non gamers mostly) out there who don't know about the 3DS and will end up buying this bundle. They do look cool though.
I still think that Pokemon Black/White should have been 3D enhanced and launched with the 3DS to make for the most epic system launch ever. Who knows, maybe Nintendo will make a Pokemon Grey edition specifically for the 3DS. Just wishful thinking, mind you.
was a time nintendo consoles really were special in regards to these sort of releases, but now: meh. this is just a black or white unit tossed into a box along with a game. if they'd taken the time/effort/whatever to do a design on the unit rather than merely the box it comes in, now that would have been something. but this is just nonsense to me.
@k8sMum: Ummmm.....you do see the etchings of Zekrom and Reshiram on the systems right?
If I was a pokemon fan I'd get one of these I figure.
It's not pointless, Nintendo still is making money. They is happy now.
When the 3DS will be out some 3 weeks later??? How about NO! Only got enough for Pokemon w/o the system, my brand-spanking new 3DS, 2 games for it, then Duodecim Dissidia FF in April.
@Aviator: Very true. I meant to say that this is pointless to me and those that are already planning on buying a 3DS. It is a good business move on Nintendo's part. These bundles should sell out and then a couple of weeks later the 3DS will hit. Good ol' Nintendo, always printing money.
i agree with bboy. how could i own only one of those dsi's knowing that there is another version that i don't own?
@ k8sMum
If you click the picture, you'll see the DSi isn't just a back DSi. It has etching of the two legendary pokemon on it, with the letters "Pokemon Black" in gold written on the bottom.
Oh, and it also comes with a case.
think before you post, plz -- TBD
Tall grass, not long grass in the title
This is probably the worst marketing move ever.
A bit late there nintendo, not many people are going to buy it because the 3dsis right around the conrner when it comes out
Yes... I will buy this and not a 3DS... THAT WAS A GOOD MOVE YOU DID THERE NINTENDO. YOU ARE NOT ERROR.
GOTTA BUY 'EM ALL
Right?
The limited edition Pokemon GBCs were way cooler IMO.
They've got the Pokemon the wrong way around.
You get the white monster with the Black Bundle and black version of the game and visa versa...
DANG IT!!!! THEY COULDNT MAKE TWO ONE FOR THE DSI AND THE OTHER FOR 3DS!!!
Sweet-looking DSi's, but I'm just fine with my Lite until I can get my hands on a 3DS...
@Kirk: No, they don't, because if they had Zekrom for Black and Reshiram for White, then they'd hardly be visible against the respective backgrounds, now would they?
Well, this is good for parents who can't afford a 3DS yet for their kids.
@30:
The white monster is the mascot for pokemon black and the black monster is the mascot for pokemon white.
It would bee too boring the other way around!
I usually just find rupees in the grass.
I only wish they had done this for HG and SS.
It looks like the text on the systems is different from the european versions. I would consider getting one if I didn't have a DSi already.
Very cool looking!
I think GameFreak just hates the 3DS, lol
I'd hate to be the kid whose birthday is March 15 or whatever, gets this system bundle for their birthday, then find out among their school a couple weeks later how awesome the 3DS is.
Neat bundle, but its gonna be a major collectors item when everyone skips it to get the 3DS. I can't believe nintendo is cutting it this close for a first party DS game. They'd NEVER do that with Mother on the NES or Mother 3 for the GBA in English when those systems were at their end.
Either practices have changed lately, or maybe they figure its Pokemon so it'll sell a crap ton no matter what they do...
Guys! Quit picking on Nintendo. If they released this special edition DSi at this time, then they obviously know what they are doing.
@Portista: lol, no one's 'picking on' nintendo, they're just calling it like they see it. :3
It's not like every parent or gamer will want to buy the expensive new toy with expensive new games right away when you can buy an older model+game+case for much less.
How did Nintendo wait too long, as so many people think, to release these? There was no way they were going to be made available before the games and there was no way they were going to be available before March. Just be thankful Nintendo decides to release stuff like this internationally at all.
NINTENDO USED MARKETING FAIL, IT'S SUPEREFFECTIVE!
...at making sure nobody plays pokemon on the 3DS...lol
I got Black pre-ordered.
I think it's a SMART move for Nintendo. Allows them to move some of those DSis. They did the same for Halloween (Orange & Green) and it sold really well (and they're worth +$50 more now). It will extend the life of the DSi since there are a handful who won't buy a 3DS.
Based on experience, a 3DS (lite) won't be too far behind. I give it 2.5 years and it's going to get better battery life and/or a bigger screen.
@45- LOL
mea culpa. i did not see the etchings...thanks to those who let me know in a nice way.
still need a car more tho (as well as new glasses, it seems, lol), so will play on my plain black DSi. i will wait for the 'lite' version of the 3DS, too.
i dont think many people will want to buy a dsi now because the 3ds is about to come out so its kind of a waste of money to get this when you could wait and get a 3ds and this game will be playable on the 3ds soo.... also is the dsi black and white on the same console or can you either get it with a black or white system
