I bet Nintendo of Europe will once again over-simplify the already simple title. Probably gonna be something like "Professor Layton and the Magical Mask", or even "Mask of Mysteries.“ Why can't they just keep the sme name?
Oh yeah, I also bet they've removed the 3D in the European version, since releasing an inferior version asap pleases the fans much more than getting the complete game.
Wohoo! With these folders, I could fit everything on the first page. Talk about convenient. I named all the folders so that none start with the same letter to avoid confusion. Sure, customization of the folders would of been nice, but currently I have no trouble remembering which folder contains what.
I don't mind that they kept the same graphical style (though I admit I wanted them to change it), but I'm growing weary of the title "New Super Mario Bros." which doesn't even make any sense anymore. How is it still NEW when this is the third installment? Plus, if they keep it up any longer, soon there will be more games titled "New Super Mario Bros." than just "Super Mario Bros." which would be just like if they had a Donkey Kong Country Returns 6, i.e. awkward.
I'm also hoping this game will have its own unique identity to make it feel like an actual NEW Super Mario Bros. instead of a "new 2D Mario that is a throwback to SMB1/SMB3/SMW. All the games up to SMW (except Lost Levels) tried to feel distinct from each other by having very different worlds and gameplay mechanics, along with having twists on the story. Then come the New Super Mario Bros. games, which seem to be more about forever reliving Mario's past experiences with some new power-ups, have the same story as the first SMB, along with worlds that are themed similarly to SMB3.
Ideally, this should have been a new numbered entry, or a game with a unique title (just like SMW/SML), and have a different story (Peach can still be kidnapped at some point like in SMB3, but the story should have something else too), with a setting just as different as Dinosaur World or Subcon, and new and wacky worlds that aren't similar (or only remotely similar) to any past worlds. Also throw in some new, never before seen gameplay mechanic (like flight in SMB3 and Yoshi in SMW) and possibly something else than a flagpole at the end of the stage. And finally, change the graphical style to something more unique, experimental, like Wind Waker and Skyward Sword did. A title with these elements would feel much fresher than another retro revival.
I'll still buy and enjoy this game, but I can't help but feel a bit bugged that they aren't trying anything totally new and wacky with the 2D Marios like they used to. Ideally, they should take more inspiration from the Super Mario Land games, which took a more far-out approach to the standard Mario formula. But unfortunately, it seems like we're stuck in an endless time loop of Mario's past adventures for now.
Wario Land II ranks high in my personal "best games of all time" list, so I'm glad to see it coming. My GBC cart hasn't been used for a while, due to me being unable to enjoy playing games without a backlit screen (have I grown old) and the save battery seems to have died too, so I'm antsy to re-experience my childhood .
Yes, MM5 is finally here! I've been anxiously looking forward to this ever since it was released in the US last year, and have been saving an extra 500 points on my Wii Shop for ages just for this game, so Thursday can't come soon enough! Now I just hope the eventual MM6 & X2 will not have a year long delay between their US and EU releases.
Also interested in Dragon Crystal and Sonic Triple Trouble. I don't care if they've aged, as I have a high retro-tolerance: for me, getting to know these old games is a valuable experience! Never owned a Game Gear back in the day, so I'm also interested in seeing how these games play out compared to the Gameboy titles.
@Myx Dude, take a chill pill, calm down, and inhale and exhale for a few minutes. Nobody said you have to buy this "abandonware", but some of us actually enjoy having an easy access to old games without having to hunt down a gazillion different consoles and games on eBay. The eShop might not have retail games yet, but IMO it still offers some pretty good original content even for those who aren't interested in the VC games. But whatever, I know you're just gonna whine anyway, as your post seems incredibly trollish. U mad, bro?
StarTropics and its sequel are probably my favorite NES games, they were very well-crafted, witty, and really challenging. I loved all the dialog and the dungeons were very memorable. I would say both StarTropics 1 and 2 were equally great, and I don't get this talk of ST2 being inferior.
I've been dying for a StarTropics 3, but so far Nintendo hasn't released a third entry in this magnificent series, which could change with the Wii U, as the article noted. Whichever way the series would take on a new console doesn't really matter, as long as it provides that familiar StarTropics feeling. I can only hope Mike Jones gets his long-overdue third adventure.
I've been waiting for MM5 for ages, and had almost abandoned all hope of seeing it in euro-land. This news makes me wanna yell "YES, YESSSS!" and dance around. Personally, I've enjoyed all the Megaman games on the VC, so I don't agree with the general opinion that post-Megaman 3 games are lackluster.
Split 4: Link beats the running man in OOT, which distorts the fabric of space and time. This causes everyone to become horribly disfigured, thus leading to the CD-i Zeldas...
The original Tetris? YYYYYYEEEEES, YEEEEEEES!!! I feel like I'm dreaming! Never thought this would actually happen, especially when everyone was saying how unlikely it would be. Now I'm confident they'll also release the original Pokémon games!
And thus, another game was available on ye olde eShoppe. Olaf-symbiote sighed, adding another game to his ever-growing liste of eShoppe games. “So many games, so little money" he said. "One day I'll be a beautiful butterfly, prospering and drinking the sweet nectar of these digital delights. That day shall cometh soon..."
If they'll reveal Mario Kart 7 will only have local multiplayer, I'll go apes**t. If they do, remember, you heard it here first!
In all seriousness, I hope the new features will be worth it, particularly the Street Pass Plaza update, as I've finished the two games they've had ages ago.
Anyway, gonna get this game eventually. Just need to save up for a prepaid card and get some other games first.
Unlike some others, I have no problems with the pace of the releases, as I'm getting almost every Game Boy game they'll have on the eShop. The amount of new content has grown nicely since my last purchases (in August).
Nintendo finally found a way to make the 3DS Phat as "phat" as the original DS Phat. Every time someone shows an image of the original DS, we all just laugh at its ugliness. The same will happen to the original 3DS. After six years, when we probably have a third 3DS revision, everyone will post pics of the original 3DS with this monstrosity, and we're all gonna have a good laugh.
Even when they announce the inevitable revision, I'll stick with my original model, just like I did with the DS Phat. It's not like all the future games will rely on this peripheral, so I'll just take it off when I'm playing games that don't support it. As long as it isn't as heavy as the DS Phat, I'm fine. I swear, that thing gave hand- and wrist cramps with its insane bulk...
I've noticed that recently NOE has become arrogant as hell: they delayed the prepaid cards, they've completely abandoned Wii's VC, they think they don't have to release more games for 3VC because we recently got the ambassador games, and they're apparently going to cut London Life from the next Layton. Now they've completely missed the point of this tool. The only thing NOE has done correctly recently is releasing many new games (Pokémon BW, OOT, Starfox) around the same time as they're released in the USA.
But releasing the games early is the only positive point for NOE. Otherwise, the European branch is a big, stinky pile of donkey doodoo. I'm astonished a single branch is so out of touch with the rest of the company and the customers and continues to do its own "thing" while Nintendo is doing its best to restore consumers' faith in the brand and 3DS. NOE's recent actions, like treating the potential eshop customers, who don't have credit cards, like morons has done far more damage to the Nintendo brand than NOA's recent localization policy.
The big guys at Nintendo (Iwata, etc.) really need to take more control of NOE and make them treat the Europeans better (in addition to firing the current suits at NOE and replacing them with COMPETENT people instead of these nitwits), because the longer NOE is allowed to constantly screw up its customers, the more damage they'll do to the sales and reputation of Nintendo's products in Europe.
@Samholy Did you just say delicious? Reminds me of something:
This is delicious!
Guess you won't needing the analog add-on I made for ya. You want me to get rid of it?
Don't be hasty. Not until I've seen that Blachydios pummeled to dust (and the materials carved), which should be any moment now... Beats the monster without the add-on, ridiculously positive music starts playing*
YES, YES!!!
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this, even if the analog add-on is the unholiest abomination on Earth.
Never played a Metroid game before and now they're giving me the first one for free . That's a very good way to introduce me to the series. Bet Nintendo was like: "What, you still haven't played Metroid even though it's on the VC!? Dammit, we'll MAKE you play Metroid, like it or not!!!"
It's weird to hear the cards aren't available everywhere in Europe yet. Just like in Germany, the cards have been out for a few weeks in my crappy country. And my country's pretty small-time, so if the cards are available here, they should available in the major European countries. I dunno, maybe they've been a bit sloppy and haven't made them widely available in the whole Europe yet?
I got this yesterday. It's the first time I've bought a Pac-Man game ! This'll be my only version too, as you only need one Pac-Man game, since the classic Pac games are always mostly the same...
@Savino Ouch, 531 dollars ! Now I realize I didn't get the absolute worst deal possible. I'm sad to hear they overprice stuff so horribly over there. Wonder if Brazil will get any kind of a price drop at all, then?
@superlink64 Thanks ! You're the first one who has ever commented on my avatar. Glad to hear you like it .
In my country, the original launch price was €290, so I really had to pay a lot for my 3DS . I have no regrets about getting it at launch, though. Bet the new price here will be something like €220. My country just loves ripping off its consumers. The VAT here is extremely high, something like 30%. I don't wanna fund some unemployed bums' way of living when I buy stuff, but unfortunately I'm forced to do just that... (sigh)...
Still no 3DS prepaid cards in Europe... Still can't buy anything at all... Still no Megaman 5 for Wii VC, which I can buy... keeps banging head against wall, Von Karma style
Hope we're not denanding too much from you, NOE. It must be awfully tough to print some cards with 16 digits. We all surely understand why the prepaid cards will be released in January at the earliest. [/sarcasm]
Oh no, this'll end up just like the EU version of Kirby's Epic Yarn. Expect Pit's voice to be changed into a stereotypical British voice, just like the narrator in Kirby's Yarn...
Really seems like NOE doesn't want me to play anything: they haven't released the prepaid cards, so 3DS VC is off-limits for me, plus they won't even give me Wii VC games, which I could buy. To think it's been over a month already, and that it still seems like it will take a really long time before we can even start dreaming of getting the cards, just makes me lose faith in NOE as a corporation.
It really seems like NOE is trying to create an upper class of 3DS owners, the ones who have credit cards and can get the games easily. Meanwhile, us lower class, non-credit card owners are treated like worthless scum that should be exterminated. NOE probably thinks we're not worth owning the games on the eshop and probably laughs at us non-credit card owners, while we longingly watch the gameplay trailers for the eshop games and wish that one day we could actually play them.
I've even contacted NOE on the issue, but they have ignored both of my emails, even when I BEGGED them to reply. That's how much I matter to NOE: in their opinion, it is much more important to change "color" into "colour", "center" into centre", "fullfill" into "fulfil", and replace the narrator of Kirby's Epic Yarn with an over-the-top British narrator than releasing the prepaid cards, which would greatly help me in my current, credit cardless situation.
Maybe one day NOE finally stops kicking me in the butt. Meanwhile, I have to depend on the freebies like Pokédex 3D, Excitebike, the E3 trailers, and Nintendo Video, which the merciful lords at Nintendo of Europe decide to hand out to such a filthy commoner as myself.
Now, if they only released those fricking eshop prepaid cards in Europe. I've been hoping NOE's promise of prepaid cards at the end of June will become reality on Thursday. If not, eff you Nintendo of Europe ›:[ !

It's a good thing they're releasing a VC and a 3DSWare game on the same week. It's always good to have more variety, even if Side Pocket sucks.
