Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th February)

Nep-Nep-Freak

Hello again, y'all! This weekend I'm playing:

Switch:
Dragon Quest XI S Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition: I'm pretty sure that I'm almost done with all of the side stories between Act 1 and Act 2. I just finished the side story for Rab.
Animal Crossing New Horizons: I just paid for the first update storage upgrade yesterday. Time to begin saving up for the last one.

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles Voice Actor Might Have Leaked Evidence Of A New Release

@crudfish

With all of this talk going on of Japanese media being censored worldwide more than ever, I've been interested in experiencing a lot more genuine Japanese media. The article that I shared a link for should explain everything that the localization of XC2 changed. Is it a super big deal? Not necessarily. But I've been wanting to experience a lot more genuine Japanese media lately, and this was one of the games I was interested in since I hear it has the most anime style tropes in the Xenoblade series, so I might still play it somedat anyway like I originally wanted to, but knowing that it's not 100% genuine is a bit disappointing 😢. Heck, as a Christian myself, the themes of Christianity in the original Japanese version actually sound interesting to me.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined (Switch 2) - A Fantastic Makeover & The Best-Looking DQ Ever

Nep-Nep-Freak

@CaptainQuo, they did make changes to outfit designs to make them tamer, which has unfortunately been happening to the Dragon Quest series a lot in recent years. As a matter of fact, that has been happening in quite a bit of Japanese games franchises lately because, as I mentioned in my first comment up above, unnecessarily tightened age restrictions in places like the EU and Australia. Also, the casino was taken out, so I hear.

To add more about the casino situation, the newest game in the Trails JRPG series, Trails Beyond the Horizon, which came out last month, did not release in Australia except on Steam, and if it did come out in Australia, it would've had a 18+ rating (because it has a casino) even though, with the content the game has, it really doesn't need that rating. If Square Enix had kept the casino in DQ7 Reimagined, the game would've been slapped with a very much unwarranted mature rating in the EU and Australia.

Yes, Square Enix most likely did decide to make the changes to the outfits and take out the casino themselves. But they also probably only did it because they didn't want to be slapped with a stupid, very much unwarranted mature rating. There's also the topic of the original designs being created by Akira Toriyama, and a lot of people like Dragon Quest because of Akira Toriyama's designs, so those designs being changed are also a complaint worth bringing up in that regard.

"Best-Looking DQ Ever".

I would probably give that title to DQ 11 S, but this game does look pretty good too in terms of art style.

@FrenchVaniIIuxe, probably because this game is the exact same on all platforms, and the design changes were seemingly chosen by the devs themselves (probably because they just didn't want to bother arguing with the increasingly tightening age restriction systems of the EU, Australia, and the like). The whole situation is just getting really out of hand.

Re: Poll: What Nintendo Switch 2 Games Are You Most Excited For In 2026?

Nep-Nep-Freak

What I voted for was Mario Tennis Fever, Super Mario Bros. Wonder S2E and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, since those look the most interesting to me at the moment, especially if they're complete on physical cartridges.

But what I'm probably looking forward to the most this year is Pokémon Gen 10, and the next mainline Neptunia game (which probably isn't getting an American Nintendo platform release because of "guidelines" or whatever, and may actually be a Switch 1 game still).

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (31st January)

Hello again, y'all! Before I begin, I would like to apologize for my behavior in the article about the new Tomodachi Life two days ago. I was just so mad about my attempt at being the middleman being denied, which caused me to start being snarky just because I thought that other people were being snarky too. I just want to apologize to the Nintendo Life community, since I have seemingly been given a second chance. Anyway, this weekend I'm playing:

Switch:
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Pirates of the Disturbance: I started this game a few days ago, after beating my most recent Neptunia game. It's a visual novel based off of an anime that I watched a few months ago and liked a lot. I'm actually borrowing my mama's physical copy of the game, since I don't own it myself. Though if it keeps being awesome, I will definitely want to buy my own physical copy at some point. I'm still on chapter 1, because I've been putting a lot more attention into...
Animal Crossing New Horizons: over the course of this week, I finished all 8 hotel rooms 🎉! But there's supposedly still some more stuff to do at the hotel (as well as more items to buy with the tickets) so I will probably go to the hotel again today. Also, I've been massively restructuring my entire island and changing water pathways, as well as getting rid of a few water pathways and adding a ramp. I'm making space for two new areas: a club area and a Zelda area, for when I eventually get a Zelda amiibo to be able to buy those. There's also a very, imho, underused area in the east side of the island that has hardly anything there, but I haven't decided what it will be for yet 🤔. Also, I'm very close to affording the update's first storage upgrade! In other words, ACNH has been keeping me busy 😅.
Among Us: I have almost enough beans for the Stardew Valley cosmicube and it expires in half a month, so I guess I'd better get on with that soon.

Re: Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Moves In On Switch 1 This April

Nep-Nep-Freak

I think the way that Nintendo went here was a good move. Anyone who wants gay elements has the option to include them, and anyone who doesn't want to do gay elements has the option to not include them. I like having options like that.

And yes, Hugh Morris for Smash!

Also, as long as no words are blocked like in other Nintendo games, this is a definite pickup.

Re: Random: This Fan Is Ripping Nintendo's Finest Tunes Onto Vinyl, Including The 3DS Menu Theme

Nep-Nep-Freak

Hear me out, y'all: even though I am a massive Nintendo fan, I don't really care for the 3DS all that much (the horror!). Yes, I did own a 2DS back in 2023-2024 before it broke on me. And I enjoyed the small amount of games that I did play on it. But the 3DS was one of the consoles that came out back when Nintendo of America was really strict about third party game content. Heck, until the Switch generation, Nintendo of America was always strict about that sort of thing. I can guarantee you that something like Neptunia would never release on the 3DS, except maybe in Japan. That is why I do not miss the 3DS generation whatsoever.

Though I will admit, one thing I really do like about the 3DS generation is its menu music and personality. Now that, I do miss. And I'm glad I have the 3DS and Wii U menu music downloaded on my phone so I can listen to them whenever.

Re: PSA: Dispatch's 'Visual Censorship' Settings Can't Be Removed On Switch

Nep-Nep-Freak

@JPEGMakima, @Dark-Luigi,

From what I've heard and seen, all of the "hentai" games on the Switch (especially the newer ones) aren't as extreme as Dispatch, in terms of the kind of content that is censored in Dispatch. Though I also haven't been on the eShop in months (been busy with Neptunia on PS4) so I might be a bit behind on the times in terms of the "hentai" games. I'm going to log on to the eShop now and check the content ratings of the more recent ones, assuming they are still being made, and then report back by editing this comment, since I'm now kind of curious about it myself.

Update: I have results. Surprisingly, all of the games with "hentai" in the title looked more realistic than anime-ish like before. And they were all rated Teen, with the only things included in the ratings being partial n*dity (I don't know which full words will get my comment removed) and s*xual themes (which doesn't mean actual s*x). There was also an American cartoon-like art style p*nty matching game, also rated Teen. Though I did eventually see a kind of anime-ish "sugoi girls" game that I was blocked from seeing information on because I'm technically still a minor for a bit longer and my family does have Parental Controls set up, so I couldn't get any rating details on that one. But yeah, it's obvious that those "hentai" games are only allowed on the platform because there's only partial n*dity in them.

Re: Ubisoft Increases 'Just Dance' Subscription Prices In The Wake Of Restructuring & Cuts

Nep-Nep-Freak

"This has been today's episode of People Will Still Buy It Anyway! Tune in next week for another episode!"

Jokes aside, I'm glad that I don't pay for any gaming subscription services outside of NSO. I prefer to pay once up front to play, without having to pay again later. Just saying 🤷‍♂️. Other people can spend their money on as many subscriptions as they want though.
