Honestly it's sad people got compromised, but it's not all on nintendo either. They provided better security options, nots not entirely their fault if users didn't use them. It's like locking the standard lock on your door but not using deadbolt as well. the door is only half locked.
In before they have to nerf them to reduce frame drops. I remember how good grass in breath of the wild looked, and then they had to vastly reduce grass detail. :
@shyguy91 Eh, critics aren't most accurate either. Witcher show comes to mind. it bombed so many critic reviews yet user scores on metacritic were overwhelmingly positive. In other words, it really can go either way, so at end of day I don't trust either score, I trust my own experience.
The Failing of Secret of Mana remake is there was a VERY loud community that demanded it play like original. basically the classic wow equiv of #nochanges. so they made sure the game was literally the SAME game with a facelift and medicore voice acting.
Since I enjoyed original, I enjoyed remake immensely as well, but some of art decisions didn't fit with a nochanges topdown.
it was effectively same game as SNES version. they honored nochanges on many levels, too many in fact since many of complaints were about the things they were asked not to change that lead to the games failing to attract NEW players. Examples such as traditional having to grind in one spot long periods of time before the next area stops kicking your butt, or the fact enemies have immune frames after every hit, including your weaker party members hits, which makes them more of a detriment than a help. All things true of original version but of course people forgot those things til the remake Things that they should have probably updated/changed instead of listening to wrong audience.
Trials seems to have not listened to that wrong audience this time and made many changes, which will favor the more modern generation of gamers.
@Balta666 check game options for message text speed. most rpgs back then had an option to change it. i think by default message speed was slow but I recall being able to set it to fast and it not being a problem.
@Balta666 I mean, did any RPG back then have skipable dialog? I don't recall it being a probelm in breath of fire though since you could go through it pretty fast if message speed was fast and you button mashed.
I wonder how they balanced currency in black flag without the ship mission table. ship missions were a huge way to get money for a lot of things, especially when you had a pretty large fleat and all areas unlocked. But they took that system offline years ago. Unless switch version adds an offline version of it in some capacity?
@gamerjo I expect big hitters like chrono trigger are a stretch, licensing wise. They also don't want the switch to be their own snes mini killer. I'd reel in expecations to be more niche games to appear that cost almost nothing to license and just help boost numbers even though hardly anyone will play them.
Then mid 2020 probably a gameboy color or advanced collection launch with a few gems in it.
@johnvboy But they are interested in ports. if new gen games are on only PS and XB and switch becomes excluded. 3rd party game support goes to crap. There is only so much graphics downgrading you can do to port to switch.
Hell, I'd be happy to buy a switch 2 tomorrow if I could play witcher 3 on it a lot less blurry. It's somewhat tolerable in handheld mode but docked mode? That's already an example of a port that really shouldn't have happened yet. That port already needed better hardware because the game is EXTREMELY blurry on a tv. Not every developer is going to want to do that to their game, especially when next gen comes out.
My biggest hope after links awakening was oracles of ages and seasons. The GBC trilogy of zelda games are probably my favorite in the entire series. Considering oracles games just reused the links awakening engine from zelda dx, it'd just make sense to use the engine work they already did with awakening remake to remake ages and seasons in far less time as it took for awakening, since they don't have to reinvent the wheel.
You actually miss the most important setting. The color blind setting for witcher senses which can only be changed at TITLE SCREEN. it turns the effects from red to a much easier to see blue. even if not color blind it's ultimate setting improvement for witcher senses.
@gamer89 While I agree, the fact more definitive better looking versinos exist, especially 60fps PC, you can't have the inferior playing version be same rating as better one. If it's 10/10 on PS4/xbox, then it's 11/10 on PC and 9/10 on switch. Maybe coming back up to 10/10 on switch in my opinion because it's witcher in your fricking hand in the car on a road trip, but still. it makes sense to take a rating hit when at end of the day, it is a compromised version of game.
"do you guys want to go back to a model that didn't work for you and caused your franchize to do poorly, or you going to continue using the model that's made some of the best games you ever released"
Did anyone really expect them to go "gee I dunno, we don't like money so maybe we'll move back to the non working model again"?
I'd also be happy to see lufia and lufia 2. RPG genre often goes under appreciated by virtual consoles. Sadly, I'm not holding breath of any more rpgs like this appearing. getting even one was probably a miracle and probably only because it's one of the most underrated ones so the licensing fees were probably low.
Here we are after 4pm eastern, still not available. guess they meant a different september 5th, 2019 for SNES games
I know others have claimed to get it, but I definitely can't get it from switch itself or even web browser in store. in web browser i can at least pull it up, but it just says "available sept 5th" with no option to add. on switch, it cannot even be found (but everything else added sept 5th can be)
@Tharsman I been saying this too, but neither one was well recieved sadly. I liked them, questionable art decisions aside, they stuck th the original visions of both gmes and played well.
@OnBeingHuman Still waiting for it to show up in eastern standard time. it shows up at online shop link but all it says is "available sept 5th" no option to acquire yet
@triforcejunkie It's actually 23 now btw. In fact if you look around for sets, you still see a lot of 22s, but the newest sets are 23. I think the sets that are 22 are missing Smash: Young Link
@marandahir I got the horse from the two amiibo only first time, and yeah I wasn't smart about where i spawned them. I used both of them dozens of times since and never got another horse, I wonder if I'm just SoL now about ever getting them to a stable :
It's sad it has better analog sticks and Dpad than the regular switch. the joycons for switch are just awful. it's iterally night and day how well I play games on pro controller vs the joycons because of how crappy analog sticks are. I actually found that on joycons i can't even walk in a straight line in botw with my clumsy thumbs. Pro controller no problem. and side scrollers like megaman x collection? forget it. D pad is a must. I bought hori 3rd party left joycon for that and it helped so immensely. what nintendo was thinking with original joycon design was beyond me.
@Heavyarms55 People are tired of lazy update notes, and it's not just nintendo. just look at updates on app store these days. Developers just put a generic change log so they don't have to update it, ever.
The change log saying "we fixed a typo no one would notice or care about" would be more welcoming then a lazy copy paste.
With 2 of the 3 games in collection both having much higher quality remakes, i was disappointed neither one of those remakes have come to switch at all.
I'm one of few that actually liked secret of mana remake. the devs honored nochanges movement across board with game mechanics and it plays like original in just about every regard. they even included option to use original OST so you weren't forced to listen to questionable remixed audio tracks. as for art style questionability. it's no worse than links awakening's questionable art style, which i'll ignore there too for a game that's absolutely fabulous to play.
Adventure of mana is remake of final fantasy adventure and it too looks fantastic and would have been great on switch, as the only way to play it now is actually on mobile. Instead they chose to put black and white gameboy title missing another golden opportunity. that remaster most aren't even aware of being on mobile only and as such has been GREATLY missed out on by many. But hey, maybe their plan is to release collection with all 3 originals, then another collection later with all 3 remasters. make double the cash.
@I_am_Done Keep in mind the PS4 and xbox versions are effectively medium pc settings. they had performance issues because they tried doing lots of extra stuff. like the biggest performance issues actually came out of trying to support the "4K" console patches.
I could see a switch version, which would far more resemble low PC settings.Like the game is gonna have low view distance and greatly reduce fogs and other effects. Probably far less wind too.
@BenAV To be fair, as long as you pay with paypal and item is covered under buyer protection (usually is), worst that happens is a time inconvenience. the frauder never gains access to personal billing information they can use again since it was handled by secure 3rd party transaction and ebay/paypal will be happy to reimburse user when they do a claim. That said, can save self a lot of time by trusting instinct and finding a credible review history that actually goes back a bit and not a bunch established within a very short window (those easy to fake, seller can just bully people in giving reviews early or create a lot of fake accounts to buy several of their fake items and review themselves).
Simple really, releasing trivial info, then deleting it will suddenly make it not trivial and they can get even more presses fired up so to speak and gain additional pr out of something that is literally nothing.
It's going to be a while. you have to consider that no one is gonna buy an SNES classic if they get same thing with their switch.
The nes classics waited a long time after nes classic to happen, so they'll delay snes stuff for same reason. Wait enough time after snes classic before they release something that literally competes with their own product.
That goes without saying. People don't buy a switch because of it's raw power. Nintendo hardware has always been about it's IPs. No one really gave a damn about switch until BoTW, and those that didn't care about BoTW didn't even bother to get a switch until Odyssey. if they didn't care about that either, they still didn't get a switch until mario kart, or pokemon lets go, or smash.
Link to one account, done. It's not hard to account link items/unlocks. They literally already have infrastructure. When I boot up BoTW it knows i purchased the DLC because a magical yes/no flag is set on the nintendo account
Leave it to nintendo though to create a convoluted one time process that can not only only be done once, but has a chance to fail and can't even bother to set an account flag to future proof it while still locking it to one time.
It also updated controllers for me with newer firmware. joycons were up to date with 6.01 but when i manually checked with 6.10 it applied newer firmware.
The problem with this article is comparing something that launched under 2000s standards to something launching in 2018
"oh, sony and xbox live launched crappy a decade ago"
That's like releasing a PS2 game in 2018 and calling it a modern triple A title to save dev costs.
I'm a nintendo fan but I'll never fanboy hard enough to defend releasing a weak service. When/if it improves over time, it will be considered. In current form though, seems quite useless. Cloud saves so I can bring my saves with me? Doesn't the switch already let me do that?
A crappy selection of NES roms? Pssht. I can bust out my old CFW PSP for that and have not only an unlimitted selection of nes games, but snes, PS1, all with superior emulation features, cheat code support, and custom rom support like the amazing assortment of link to the past rom hacks.
When people ask for a virtual console, they are talking more about having all their favorite classics on one system. Even with the PSP, i still always buy the GBA/NES zeldas for 3ds etc, and i don't have to pay a sub for them after the fact. I like the forward thinking of it too because 10 years from now I can still bust out that 3ds and i still own those zelda games. I'm not fond of the "pay to use, but stop paying and we take it away" design. Especially for a poor launch selection that lacks all the fantastic GBC/GBA zelda titles. and has no snes titles like super metroid or link to the past.
