Re: Wisconsin To Tax Digital Downloads

Mayhem

@Josh, Fox, DDR - and I'll be putting the "ill" and "annoy" into Illinois in July myself. Back visiting a close friend and then heading off to SDCC.

As for digital download tax, I have a feeling the price would go up to accommodate the revenue the seller is now losing...

Re: USA VC Update: Commodore 64 Launches With Three Games

Mayhem

Mayhem in Monsterland never came out in the US, there's no official NTSC version. HOWEVER... Psytronik has produced a 15th anniversary release of the game with an NTSC version newly made for US residents. Maybe whoever handles the C64 releases can reference that if it's to make it over the pond...

Re: Nintendo Channel: John Rowlands C64 Interview

Mayhem

The hair might be a lot, lot longer today but that's the same old John as always heh... and yeah he was about 19 when they launched firmly onto the C64 scene with Retrograde. He was about 23 when Mayhem came out. Many programmers around that time were that sort of age, cutting their teeth on assembly and design.

And I remember the gag mentioned in the second video @ 3 minutes with the voting slip. Definite oversight whoops, but hey it allowed a ton of us to finally contact the guys to give them feedback

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Ignoring WiiWare?

Mayhem

Was gonna write something but KDR pretty much summed up my thoughts as well on the matter. It IS a good chance for third party developers to shine instead of competing with Nintendo titles on this platform at least.

@Sycoraxic - as Dazza said, look at the front of the Super Famicom version of Super Mario World and you'll see the words "Super Mario Bros 4"...

Re: Review: Planet Pachinko (WiiWare)

Mayhem

@ObjectionBlaster - only recently have publications switched? Depends... Edge from day one have used 5 = average and at NTSC-UK we have always used 5 = average too (started 2001). I think Zzap!64 were always in the 5 = average category as well and that's from the 80s.

Re: USA VC Update: Castlevania III

Mayhem

And in many places I bet people are saying hoo-bloody-ray, well okay not the US cos they don't use "bloody" much heh. C4 still is the best Castlevania for me though

Re: Last Ninja 3

Mayhem

Oh indeed, not condoning it, just trying to rationalise why it might have happened. As said, you don't see any issues until wanting to load level two...

Re: Last Ninja 3

Mayhem

I had a think about why this might be happening and I'm reminded of the issues I had when I tried to convert my LN3 original disks for Retro Gamer back when they had the games on their cover mount CD (issue #18). There is some seriously nasty copy protection going on, and I wonder if the emulator they are using isn't equipped to deal with it. IIRC the images need a fair bit of patching as well to get them emulator working.

However you don't get to see things go tits up until you try changing disk sides... which happens at the end of level one! The similarity may be more than coincidence here. LN1 and LN2 I got working fine but LN3 I didn't have the time to get patched so RG used a cracked copy instead on the CD!

Re: Club Nintendo Comes To North America

Mayhem

Exactly, it'll be little to no American traffic to the site. I did all the surveys this morning and they flew through compared to the lag fest of last night.

@Stardust - I guess I should have been more specific. Linked WoG to my account? Yes. Given me my 10 coins for it? No.

Currently accrued 590 coins, so WoG will take me to the magical 600 required for Platinum status. I wonder what free gifts will be offered in June compared to Japan?

Re: Club Nintendo Comes To North America

Mayhem

I've migrated but the site is so lagged and slow currently I can do little else for the moment bar sling customer services a message asking them to link my copy of World of Goo to my profile.

Re: Last Ninja 3

Mayhem

Although not the Samurai bushido, ninjas often did have their own code of honour. Reyn's music in this game is terrific, almost as good as Matt Grey's for LN2.

Re: Impossible Mission II

Mayhem

@Betagam7 - it's a touch easier to beat than the original because you don't need to search everything or beat every room, you just need the codes to exit each tower and get the music from the safe.

Re: Hori Announces New Classic Controller For Japan

Mayhem

Will have to consider getting this... but only if there are more Wii games that need it that can't be used via Wavebird...

As for Hori and Nintendo being close, yes they have for a long time. Take a look at this for example:

This was released in 2000 for the N64. Remind you of another pad that, at the time, was yet to appear? Strange huh... I think Hori must have seen early Cube designs.
