Re: Review: Shadow of the Ninja (Virtual Console / NES)

Mayhem

There is, but I forgot to note it in the review; hold down attack for a few seconds and it acts like a smart bomb at the cost of half your health. Personally I wanted to enjoy the game but there was nothing present that screamed at me and grabbed me by the throat, compelling me to keep at it...

Re: Review: Tornado Outbreak (Wii)

Mayhem

I'd seen it listed but it didn't ring any bells as said, it got no promotion and I've not seen a single review of it until now. Maybe one to look up next time I'm in the US...

Re: Donkey Kong World Record Smashed

Mayhem

@Popyman - pretty much, apparently he only started playing the game in November 2008... so not even 18 months yet!

@WiiLovePeace - nope, there's a countdown timer on each level and if it hits zero, then you lose a life. It's actually that function that causes the "kill" screen, you can read about that here and why it triggers.

Re: Ask Steve Wiebe

Mayhem

Have you thought about going for the DK3 record and then technically having a 2-1 advantage over Billy Mitchell?

Conversely, in line with all the talk heard about having "performances in the bank" regarding scores achieved but not produced publically yet, how high do you think the score in DK is able to be pushed limit wise?

Re: Rare NES Game Sells for $41,300 on eBay

Mayhem

I've never bought the 2000 made, 200 left rumour at all. I'm pretty sure there are more of them out there than that. Mind you, it's still silly bidding for a sealed game regardless of how many exist!

Re: Last Ninja 3 Pulled From European Virtual Console

Mayhem

@andol123 - that's my post over there. The original disks DO have a copy protection system that lets you play the first level but then crashes when trying to load level two. I can't believe this would actually be the case here, but you never know...

I'm glad the game IS finally off the VC and people will be refunded because it should never have gone up in the first place like this.

Re: Brand New NES Platformer Released

Mayhem

$30 is fairly standard for a homebrew title for US consoles now... time for programming, manufacture and anything else needed. I don't see a lot of people complaining about paying that for 2600/7800 titles for example.

Re: Review: Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland (DS)

Mayhem

I've sent three copies of this to people in the US over time because they knew it wasn't coming out over there. Apparently Nintendo didn't release it because the general feeling is American gamers hate Tingle. I wonder why?

Definitely agree with the score. It's a fun game but flawed...

Re: NBA Jam Might Be Making A Comeback

Mayhem

At the buzzer... ugly shot! Getting Mark Turmell back is a confidence move in all (he also created one of my favourite C64 games, Toy Bizarre) so there's better hope for it than I'd imagine. Played the original SNES version to death back then.

Re: Talking Point: Are Rereleases Killing the Retro Market?

Mayhem

Chrono Trigger is not rare. It's quite common. The price is because it's in demand because it's an excellent title. Not everything pricey is rare, and not everything rare is pricey. Demand has every factor on price as rarity does imo. But I will agree that the recent releases on physical and download mediums of older titles has depressed the value of the originals to a degree. Better for us still looking to obtain said titles, not so good for those looking to sell.
