I was always under the impression that the delays aren't technically for loading, but for decompressing the data...? Nevertheless at the time I felt this was a mightily impressive conversion for the SNES. Not sure the girlfriend appreciated me spending the moolah on it when we were in New York on holiday though
I think you'll find the image #15 reappearing for that comment Jereon... well from some people at least. I still love SMK but I think the DS version is the best iteration Nintendo have released to date.
Nice introductory guide there, took me back to when I first got my US Wii. Glad you mentioned the Brazil trick regarding buying points, one of the first things I learnt and use to this day to get WiiWare titles. Only one thing I take concern to though:
"Many TVs sold in Europe will not automatically interpret an NTSC signal over S-Video or Composite link"
Many? Really? I was under the impression just about any European sold TV from the last 5-10 years will now handle NTSC fine over AV channels. Certainly is the case here in the UK.
As for importing US Wii games I tend to use Tronix or Videogamesplus given Amazon are region locked on that front.
Buying and registering lots of games... same principle now applied to the US Club Nintendo. These will be all over eBay in due time anyhow, so anyone should be able to get one if they want it...
Yeah, your IP needs to be in the UK to use the iPlayer fullstop. I have a US Wii so I won't be getting the channel, but at least I can use the iPlayer website through the Opera browser...
@Stuffgamer - to unlock level two you had to get on the high score table (ie. score over 500,000 points) in addition to merely beating level one. Some people were completing the level but not scoring highly enough to make the table, rendering level two still locked. If I remember rightly.
I rather liked both Cybernoid games back in the day, might be different now trying to play them on the remote or classic controller (as you used the number keys to select each weapon on the old breadbin). As for Excitebike, I really hope it's good, will await the review before buying (althoguh I still need to play Nyxquest!).
Loved this game when it originally came out, just felt being near the end of the Cube's life it didn't get the attention it deserved. One of those I played and completed 100% for all secrets, it hooked me that much.
The original winner had some unexpected bills to pay that used up the money he was going to use to buy the box, hence why he had to decline paying and it's back up for sale...
You keep your status, it's all about how many coins you've earned in the 12 month period, not how many you have in your account. So I got platinum for last year (and got my Doc Louis download!) and am about halfway to platinum for this year currently. Basically unless you need to register certain games (if you want to spend a lot of coins), don't bother and "save" them up for the next period given you've already passed platinum.
Interesting... still the IGN score does seem low. I'll be waiting on some other reviews to see which way this is leaning, although I did enjoy the first game.
Well the cover is partly in the tradition of Haynes manuals, and also rather harks back to the old school 80s design of books we got here, such as those from Usborne for example.
A bit more intuitive, and far less random jumping about over instant death precipices at least (only one I recall this time). I never had an issue with them back in the day, maybe that's just me. Also the music... best suite of tunes imo on the C64
Great review, one I would have loved to have written myself. I still prefer SF64 though, just think it has a better feel. This was still highly impressive for 1993 though as I laid down my (I shudder to think how much, 70 quid perhaps?) dosh at the import store for a Japanese copy...
Playing through it at the moment... same blend of teeth-gnashing obviousness and mind-bending trickery. Hopefully can get it finished before the new Mario RPG comes out... who said the end of summer would be slow?
Heh, so what I heard was true... and the onslaught out of the summer continues... too many games already and there's Muramasa and the new Mario RPG soon as well... arghhh!
Blimey, must have missed that (maybe I was on holiday at the time). Means I've only got a couple of weeks to beat Layton then before this will plop through the door on-order...
Pity the Corruption save can't be carried over. The review didn't completely clarify how you now swap visor/weapon in the first two games (instead of using d-pad and c-stick), do you just press a button to cycle through them?
Regarding the quoted line from Stuffgamer, it's regarding the control system. You can't blame that for cocking up while playing, only your own ineptitude. And if you find you are having issues with one particular vehicle in a lesson, do that one first! Then if you still get a low score, you haven't wasted much time to then try it again from the top. Or just practice more...
@Dazza - internally yes hah hah, but I didn't show it on camera (and if anyone ever tracks that particular show down, have fun!). More's the pity as I would have decimated the other two guys in the final where it was Streetfighter 2 on the SNES. So, yeah Pilotwings, like you I was more into F-Zero instead. I think that's why I wrote the first sentence of the conclusion; I think it did get overlooked by many when it first came out.
I've never had any hardware fail on me. Yet. In 30 years. I'm waiting for my 360 to be the first ever. The Wii is still perfectly fine afaik, although the disc drive occasionally gets in a tizzy.
Best game on the GB? I'd debate that one. One of the best? Oh most definitively yes! Though the only niggle I had was the limitations of the Gameboy itself with its two buttons; the constant need to hit start to switch over the actions on the A and B buttons as the situation arose.
I saw the video for this on the NC, looked interesting. A score of 8? I might get it... when I have a moment amidst all the other games! Who said summer would be slow...?!
@ Big A2 - there have been big gaps between US and European release dates in the past, so people import. This time the gap between Japan and US release dates is a lot wider than before... QED.

Re: Square Enix to Publish LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias in Japan
I imagine the publisher here does the same as for a physical product - handle the nitty gritty on contracts, agreements, licensing and communications.
@SmaMan - except Frontier are a British company headed by one half of the team that produced Elite 25 years ago...
Re: Mega Man 10 Set for March 2010
Just because there is easy mode, doesn't mean you have to use it. Resist my pupils, resist
But this could be harder in general than MM9 just looking at bits in the trailer, so its inclusion could be justified...
Re: Review: Pole's Big Adventure (WiiWare)
I must admit, I'm surprised there hadn't been a review of this game here until now
But indeed, if this ever gets localised then Satan might skate to work... still we can live in hope!

Re: DS is the UK's Best-Selling Console Ever
I wonder how many R4 units are in those DS handhelds though heh...
Re: Review: Rock & Roll Racing (Super Nintendo)
"Shred... is in another timezone!!!"
Loved this game to death back in the day, especially split screen two player with my brother. I think we just about rinsed it as far as we could...
Re: Nintendo Download: Monkey Island, Zoos, 'Copters, Face Stealing and Puzzles! (US)
At least this week allows me to do a little catch-up...

Ryu wearing shoes? How about having red hair?!
Re: First Impressions: New Super Mario Bros. Wii
I like it when I played it but I think it will be better if everyone playing knows the levels and isn't half anticipating what's coming next...

Re: Muscle March Marches Westward
Frankly I'm a little stunned, but then we did get Tingle as well. Sadly though I won't be able to buy unless it comes to the US...
Re: Review: A Boy and His Blob (Wii)
Apparently it's a bit hard to find in the US... I'll be ordering it online next time I need to import something... probably NSMB!
Re: LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias Coming to North America on Monday
Argh... too much on plate currently. This is gonna have to sadly wait to be bought and played (still not started NyxQuest either yet!).

Contra is still quite hard. This is both good and bad hah hah...
Re: Pluck A Plush Pikmin From Club Nintendo EU
I was wondering if the plush Pikmin was the same as those from the store, as I've got a full set of red Pikmin here at home.

Simple solution: just buy the cartridge. Well worth it, a classic game.
