@Toastess In other words, you're against competitive play in general because winning is not your top priority. Save your moralistic posing for an audience who will appreciate it.
That the Jigglypuff player was not putting his best efforts into the fight is baseless heresay. Effort, in this case, may not be the only deciding factor in his choice of strategy. If his chosen strategy was the best one and he wins with it, the effort involved is completely irrelevant. If it wasn't the best strategy, he might not have done it at all and you wouldn't be here to talk about it.
This approach to telling a Zelda story is lazy and counterintuitive. It's lazy because they're passing off the creative work onto the consumers, and it is counterintuitive because once you reveal that a question will never have a real and objective answer, there's no point in trying to find or imagine one. Why is Nintendo going through the trouble of creating a timeline if they're just going to crap on it? This is the same anti-story attitude that destroyed the Paper Mario series.
"Creating a "buddy" character who would stay next to Link at all times and battle in tandem with him was a first for a Legend of Zelda game."
Really? Isn't Midna just a dark combination of Navi/Tatl/Tetra's Talking Rock, an animal mask, and the Ocarina/Wind Waker? What did Midna do in a battle besides draw Wolf Link's focus and give advice?
@TheGoddesseshero I don't like it BECAUSE it's pointless, and I LOVE that you mentioned Skyward Sword, a game that was highly criticized for its pointless reminders.
As for pretending, doesn't that solve the problems of every single game ever. By your logic, every game is 10/10 because you can just pretend the game has substance. If you couldn't finish the game because of the difficulty, that would be one thing, but a side quest is another thing. If you can't finish a side quest, why not just pretend you did.
I don't expect that I speak for the masses who don't give a crap about the sparkly water in Majora's Mask 3D or the dancing gossip stones. I only hope the next Zelda doesn't follow suit.
@TeslaChippie Sigh. Your impatience with a slow and optional part of the game does not translate to that element of the game being flawed. If an optional quest was too tedious, no one was forced to endure it, so making the change for casual players was completely pointless. If I'm complaining, it's because they made a change to the game which only removes an element of mystery and challenge to it. It's like if they made the fourth bottle in OoT only require 3 poes instead of 10 or if they added arrows in Braid pointing to the stars. "Well, everyone hated working so hard and for so long, so we made it more accessible for those who aren't dedicated gamers." Sidequests are meant for the dedicated, and they are supposed to test our patience, because traveling off the beaten path would not seem so rewarding if it was as easy as the rest of the game.
How much more are they going to nerf TP? Accessibility is not always worth sacrificing difficulty especially when we're talking about an OPTIONAL side quest.
Personally... I think there is a lie in the center of the dislike of this decision and the "kiddie" label in general. It seems like anything that doesn't have blood and sexual content is "kiddie". The term "mature content" refers to "content that isn't suitable for all ages", but people take it to mean "content that mature people enjoy" or "content that make you more mature if you enjoy it".
Ugh. Why on this earth would they want to make wind control faster? What's the point of having wind at all? You're not supposed to have easy control of it. Such a request is arrogant and to grant such a request would cheapen the wind's overall role in the world of Wind Waker. Show some respect.
@timp29 You could use invasive tactics to reform the Congo's government, but then it's open season on any other government, especially those in the UN.
@grimbldoo #62 For $300, I could buy an Ouya for three different TVs. I'm sure the options would go up for every $100 you add to your budget. How does that defeat my original point?
