Re: Miiverse Gets a Fresh Update for Wii U and 3DS

Linkuini

Finally, a community search function!

I personally look at Miiverse fairly often. There are definitely a lot of users who post complete nonsense (like anywhere on the internet), but it doesn't seem too hard to filter them out. When I find somebody entertaining, I follow them. Then I look at the list of comments they've given Yeahs to, and I find more people I can follow. Eventually, there's so much good stuff on my Activity Feed that I sometimes forget just how much chaff there is elsewhere.

Plus, it's pretty easy to get help on Miiverse when you're stuck in a game. Perhaps too easy, as some have remarked.

I'm a little surprised to see that they had such a broad interpretation of their game when it had so many touches that seemed specific to casual freemium games. There were the timers on getting new items, the premium currency... Sugar Plumps's relationship with the player even reminded me of the vague, one-sided social interactions common in Facebook games.

@Marioman64
Hahaha, good one! Now if you'll excuse me, I believe I hear my toast screaming.

Re: As The Maker Of Flappy Bird Withdraws His Creation, Nintendo Denies Any Legal Complaint

He might as well have kept it up. With all the clones up now, the damage is already done.

Each game is the same: some endless, pointless, overly demanding exercise in frustration. All the reviews are the same: dramatic accounts of being psychologically enslaved by a painful, repetitive game so ridiculously addictive it defies human comprehension. Many have insisted that their ability to hook players in for hours in spite of their incredibly poor quality could only have been a gift from the devil himself.

Mr.Nguyen, you've created mobile gaming's next inexplicable phenomenon. I admire and pity you in equally generous measure.

Re: Big Red Button's Bob Rafei Spills More Details On Sonic Boom For Wii U And 3DS

Ordinarily I like to see Sonic take a different direction. A vocal portion of the internet may complain about every little change, but I suspect that many of them are the same people who insist that other popular franchises don't change enough.

That being said, there's something inherent in the TV show connection that makes me curb my enthusiasm. In my mind, a big change seems less ambitious when it seems to have "market-researched kids' show" written all over it.

Re: Review: Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder (3DS eShop)

Linkuini

When I tried the demo, the camera was constantly frozen, and green lines kept showing up all over the screen. If I jiggled the hinge, the camera would work just long enough for me to snap a photo, which, if my lighting was at the perfect angle, would be just good enough to satisfy the game. I thought I must have damaged the camera or something, but when I opened up the regular 3DS Camera application, the camera worked just fine. I guess something about the AR functionality just requires much better lighting by default and is more easily broken.

I don't know what's wrong with the camera in my 3DS, but it makes taking photos in this game next to impossible. Not getting the full game.

Re: Lots of Sonic Lost World Wii U and 3DS Footage Dashes Into View

Linkuini

Smart new additions on display here! And it doesn't even bother me that it looks so similar to Super Mario Galaxy since they had already tried out this kind of gameplay with the cancelled Sonic Xtreme.

I know I'll like the Wii U version, but I refuse to trust the 3DS version based solely on that trailer. The handheld versions of Sega's games have all played like an afterthought lately.

Re: Ubisoft Nervous About How People Will React To Watch_Dogs At E3

Linkuini

This game has a pretty ambitious concept, which always makes for a good trailer. The question is whether the gameplay in the end product can deliver on its promise.

There must be a lot of pressure when it comes to getting a playable demo ready in time for E3, especially if the development team hasn't had the time to work out all the kinks yet. It kinda scares me to think about it, considering I hope to become a game developer myself in the future. Brrr...

Re: Animal Crossing Co-Director Thinks Tom Nook Is "Very Misunderstood"

He personally builds and upgrades your house for you. Without even asking about your credit, he gives you a loan for it with no interest or deadlines whatsoever. And then, if you ever get around to paying him for your house, he builds you a golden statue of yourself and charges you nothing for it. Oh, that scoundrel! Has he no shame?

Re: Pac-Man And The Ghostly Adventures Chomping Its Way To Wii U And 3DS This Year

Linkuini

As a platformer, it looks decent, but generic. As a Pac-Man game, it looks like a waste of time.

If you ask me, the only way Pac-Man is going to become relevant again is if he gets a new game or two that uses the gameplay of the original as a starting point and takes it in a compelling new direction, kind of like what BIT.TRIP: BEAT did for those old paddle games. One can dream...
