Timely reminder that they couldn't be assed to spring for a larger capacity card when they released the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on the Switch, and so you're forced to download X-2 as a separate 10GB download just to play it. Absolutely ridiculous.
Y'all can say whatever you want, but the vast majority of Switch hackers are pirates, too, and you won't convince me otherwise.
I don't care what the non-pirates do, but you guys really should police yourselves better, because the thieves stealing modern games that can still be easily bought online or in store are tarnishing the reputation of the ENTIRE hacking/modding community.
@-wc- That is only true for the original Wii. The Wii U and 3DS both had much smaller libraries, with far fewer 3rd parties willing to port their games. The writing was on the wall, it was diminishing returns over time.
@PipeGuy64Bit Not necessarily. Nintendo had been losing money on VC on every console after the Wii. The Wii U makes sense, but even on the 3DS, which sold over 70 million systems, the amount of people actually buying the VC games were a TINY minority of the userbase. Myself, I bought almost every single VC release on both consoles, but I'm very much an outlier in that regard.
Literally HOW is anybody playing the game online?
I spent OVER AN HOUR yesterday trying to get online to download all the Event Courses I missed, and finally gave up in frustration.
I got mine in 2018 from Toys R Us while the store was going out of business. I got it for a whole whopping 5% off. It has since survived a housefire in 2019, and is still running great in 2024.
So, I don't buy that the content of Mother 3 is the problem here. The two Famicom Detective Club remakes got localized two years ago and I can assure y'all those two games have CONSIDERABLE mature themes, up to and including a visual depiction of a dead body hanging from a noose. It's pretty obvious Nintendo doesn't care about "mature themes" any more, and I can assure y'all the Magypsies are nowhere near as mature as the stuff in the Famicom Detective Club games. Neither is the 'shroom trip, for that matter.
@_fatto_katto_ The only example of a game getting an official English localization decades later I can think of is "Seiken Densetsu 3/Trials of Mana," but that's not first party, it's from Square-Enix.
EDIT: Well, there were the two "Famicom Detective Club" remakes from a couple years back, too, but those weren't the original FDS games.
Five years? Really? I remember watching that reveal trailer and being blown away by the idea. I didn't get my Switch until 2018 from a going-out-of-business sale at Toys R Us. I knew that was like my only chance ever to get one at a discount, lol.
I mean, square is still "undecided" about releasing the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on Switch, and that's a VASTLY easier thing to do, so is any of this AT ALL a surprise?
I'm not apologizing for anything, I'm just noting that this is not part of them shutting the shops down yet. It also doesn't even affect North America, so it's essentially a moot point over there. The Wii Shop stayed online for over 7 years after the Wii was discontinued, so we already have precedent of them keeping a digital storefront active long after a system is discontinued.
Look out, guys, GTHOLLAND's here to let us all know that preserving the Satellaview games like BS Legend of Zelda are the worst crime since the Holocaust. Heaven forbid you play Mother 3 in English, GTHOLLAND wants you to know THAT IS A CRIME, AND YOU SHOULD BE ARRESTED.
Oh, I've got a lot.
I'd love to see Devil World get its first official release in NA on the NES Online app. Mysterious Murasame Castle would be great there, too.
StarTropics 3 would be great.
Can't forget Mother 3, either.
The BS Zelda games would be a fine fit on the SNES Online app.
Famicom Wars translated into English.
Mole Mania should make a comeback, too.
With the NA release of Famicom Detective Club, this opens the doors to several other Disk System exclusive adventure games. I know there's one based on Journey To the West that could be a fun play.
I would have said Virtual Boy, too, but that ship sailed, I'm afraid. The 3DS VC was perfect for it, but Nintendo obviously disagreed, and I don't see how they could work on Switch.
EDIT: Yes, Golden Sun 4 would be amazing, too.
I can't believe I have to spell this out again, but here we go: Pirating BOTW or Splatoon 2 or any other currently available modern game is definitely stealing and wrong. Don't do it. Pirating ROMs of 30 year old NES games that haven't been re-released in 30 years, and never will be re-released, and cost hundreds of dollars on eBay, (or The Thousand-Year Door, because damn, that game is getting crazy expensive) while technically still "stealing" quite literally does not matter and you should not care, so stop being the morality police about it. Get a life.
Now I'm not sure if I got it or not. The order shows up on my order list, but I literally cannot get the order to load when I click "View Order." I have no idea what this means.
@Mountain_Man The Zoo might have had one of Nintendo's Streetpass Relay points. They set those things up at all kinds of other public locations besides the list I mentioned.
@Mountain_Man I miss the Streetpass relays Nintendo used to have set up at places like Walmart, Best Buy, Gamestop, and McDonald's. Going to anyone of those places with my 3DS used to be exciting because I knew I'd be guaranteed at least 10 Streetpass hits in one go, some from halfway around the world. It was magical.
@JayJ That only happened because Gamespy went bankrupt.
Anyway, you're all missing a key piece of information: The 3DS/Wii U/Switch eShops are all running off the exact same servers. So if one stays up, all three will likely stay up.
A lot of you guys are forgetting that there are people like myself that only bought a Wii U in the last year or so to explore its back catalogue and the last hurrah of the now-defunct Virtual Console at a far cheaper price than the $60 dollar remakes on Switch.
I buy physical whenever I can. However, I also base my purchases on size considerations. The larger a game file is, the more likely I am to buy it physically. I only have so much space on my Switch's SD card, so I try to maximize what space I have by only buying smaller games digitally. All that said, I much prefer a shelf lined with physical games. It looks so nice.
@Ventilator Hey man, I'll take a look at those. Sorry I came across as snippy in my previous reply. I'd got a few other people saying I'd had chances to get DLC before, and I was feeling a bit annoyed at the time. But yeah, I've been really enjoying the Wii U. Very good purchase, and it's a pretty great system, which is why it sucks so much that it failed as badly as it did.
@Ventilator Don't you dare mess with me, dude. I only bought a Wii U for the first time last year, and I only bought Pikmin 3 a few months ago, but I never got around to playing it. I only learned it even HAD DLC yesterday. So don't come at me with a "you shoulda bought it years ago, hardy-har-har." I didn't even HAVE a Wii U years ago.
I'm just super pissed about the DLC because I don't want to have to pay $60 for the "Complete" experience. I should want to pay $60 for a game because I liked it so much I decided to double dip. Not be forced to because the original DLC is now completely impossible to purchase.
@stevenw45 @Tourtus As of now, the DLC is completely inaccessible, which is, quite frankly, unacceptable. I get delisting the game, but why delist the DLC? It's scummy. There is now no way to ever have the complete experience on the Wii U, so yeah, completionists beware.
I'm upset that the DLC was removed.
The Wii U version is now permanently and forever gimped compared to the Switch version, and I get that's the point, but it still sucks a**.
I'm annoyed, to say the least. I picked up the digital version on Wii U several months ago, but I hadn't really got around to playing it yet, and so I had NO IDEA it had any DLC available. I didn't find out it had DLC till TODAY... After I can no longer buy the DLC. To say that I'm rather pissed off is an understatement.
A lot of doom and gloom in here. Are y'all forgetting the Wii Shop was online for 13 YEARS? These Limited eshops were just for code redemption and downloads. Nothing at all like the regular eshop. I doubt they had very many customers. This makes sense from a business standpoint. As an aside, I read somewhere that the same servers hosting the Switch eshop also hosts those of the Wii U and 3DS, so I have a feeling all three will stay online for the same length of time.

Dragon Quest is my all-time favorite JRPG series, even over Final Fantasy, and this list is so much yes.
XI is a GORGEOUS game, and may well be the best of the series, with V a VERY close second.
Magnificent series, not a bad game in the lot.
