Re: Random: "Of Course You Know What A Heart Is!": Nintendo Pokes Fun At Skyward Sword's Shortcomings

Kyranosaurus

Yeah, this wasn't an issue with hearts, stamina plants or rupees from what I recall. There was ALWAYS a first time explanation for everything but it was only bugs and materials that would reset the explanation after quitting the game and starting it back up.

I think the only other time hearts possibly reset for an explanation was when you found them in small chests but even then I'm not actually sure it did it even in that case.
They probably should've used a butterfly or something as an example if they wanted to use that joke for the tweet.

Re: HAL Laboratory Looking Forward To Sharing Kirby's "Next Phase" With Fans

Kyranosaurus

I personally want to see a sequel or remake to Kirby Air Ride. That or the basic 2D formula finally converted into a 3D platformer like the fans have been hoping for so long.

It's just a personal wish really, but I can't really see myself getting excited for the next announcement if it doesn't shake up what we've already been getting these past 10 years or so.
If it's another 2D/2.5D game, I'll be disappointed most likely, but as long as it's a good game it'll be better than the treatment other franchises get that aren't mainline at least.

Re: Nintendo's Ready For Acquisitions, When The Time Is Right

Kyranosaurus

Sounds like pretty standard stuff. Although honestly I don't think Nintendo's ever been in a financially poor situation. Not to say they haven't had a product bomb of course (cough, Wii U, cough) but as far as I've seen, Nintendo's actual company budget has been say "comfortable" for a very long time since their approach to spending is extremely conservative.

Re: Random: It Looks Like Masahiro Sakurai's Parody Account On Twitter Has Finally Been Defeated

Kyranosaurus

Honestly when the account was created, I used to follow them because for a while the joke tweets were actually funny and original until eventually the account just started posting stuff blatantly found from elsewhere online and just turned into a regular "haha, I post offensive or stolen memes" account so I unfollowed years ago.

One of the only good and original game parody accounts was the former CEO of Sony, Kaz parody twitter. Unfortunately the legend retired on their own but THAT was a good example of posting both funny and original content that didn't resort to being an edgy teenager that just reposted memes we'd already seen for the billionth time.

Re: Nintendo Aims To Develop Its Characters Without "Destroying" The Memories Of Fans

Kyranosaurus

@DonkeyKongBigBoy
Well you can't GET beloved by sitting on them either can you? Not to mention these franchises have never been given the chance on an actually successful console WITH decent marketing. That's why when the Switch came out with so many franchises doing better than they've ever done before, people thought Nintendo might finally bring back old franchises to test that theory but here we are yet again with no idea if it would work because they were never given the chance to begin with.

Re: Two Veteran Sonic The Hedgehog Writers Appear To Have Moved On

Kyranosaurus

@KillerBOB
This reads like sarcasm and I'm sorry if it's not but this comment seems incredibly tone-deaf to literally the millions of Sonic fans in the world who legit played the Sonic games for their stories and characters.
You don't have to like the stories but it's very dense to assume no one else played them for it.

Re: Poll: What's The Best 2D Mario Game?

Kyranosaurus

Super Mario World by far has always held a unique charm and character I really wish they'd implement into the modern games. The newer games feel too "sterile" these days but Super Mario Maker 2 has been a good blessing for the fans at least.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog Voice Actor Thanks Fans For Reaching Out

Kyranosaurus

@Noid I'd disagree with that one. Not sure if you've seen it but the last thing Ryan did was a fan-made Sonic radio drama and did the voice change? It sure did but it actually has something of a hint of of maturity like he's still a teenager but sounds a bit less wacky. Something like a mix of his original voice crossed slightly with Jason's more calm and caring Sonic.

Maybe you have seen it and it's still not for you but personally I was shocked when I heard it and actually ended up liking it even more so than before. If you haven't heard it though, definitely give it a listen and still see if you feel the same.

Either way if Sega's choosing someone brand new, I really hope they know what they're doing since they have some big red shoes to fill. It's not an easy role.

Re: Nintendo Issues Mass DMCA Takedown, 379 Fan-Made Games Forcibly Removed

Kyranosaurus

This is a pretty open and shut case in which I'd normally side with the creators otherwise HOWEVER, the iffy thing with this is that it still technically isn't the creators' faults since all they did was make the game.

Sites like Game Jolt are the ones that host the games to begin with and are making it look like it's the Devs fault when they're actually the ones puting the ads up.

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo

Kyranosaurus

@HobbitGamer I don't play Melee either really. Just fed up with Nintendo swinging their legal team all over the place when they legit don't have the right. Sponsored event? Pull out as a sponsor then. There's still zero legal issues with how the event itself is being handled.

Also I don't think the book author would want you to use junk mail as a bookmark for their hard-earned work, that wouldn't be the intended way.

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo

Kyranosaurus

@JuiceMan_V Oh you meant that. I mean sure but it's got nothing to do with the game itself. It literally just let's people play it online. It technically isn't a "Smash mod" in that sense and again isn't illegal so Nintendo had no reason to cancel. It's basically like calling dinner off because the restaurant had to move your table to the one next to the window instead of the one near the entrance.

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo

Kyranosaurus

@JuiceMan_V For something to be true, there needs to be proof. Nintendo doesn't have that unfortunately and is calling bluff like with 99% of their threats.

Edit: If Nintendo was sponsoring them sure, but they're still in the wrong for calling this off. They're practically spitting their dummy out because they want to hold the event online instead of risking people's lives.

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo

Kyranosaurus

@Jakiboy Unfortunately I fall for the bait every single time because for SOME reason I like to hope that the majority is sensible enough to realise when Nintendo's being awful, fanboy or not. I guess we're in hard times though and if you got angry at the producer of your only entertainment, then being locked in your home wouldn't be very fun.

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo

Kyranosaurus

@HobbitGamer You're both right and wrong.
To be a company is to sell a product.
To be a GOOD company is to earn your customers' favour.
If you make yourself a disliked company then business isn't going to look down on you very well.
Nintendo wouldn't be where it is today if their customers weren't fans of theirs.
Doing something of poor taste just so happens to make you lose some of those fans.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Dev Retro Studios Continues Exciting Hire Spree With Call Of Duty: Black Ops Veteran

Kyranosaurus

@NEStalgia What you've said would definitely make sense would it not be for the fact that everything you've said is literally pure speculation when we've known about its existence for less than 3 years.
Leave the speculation at home and wait until we actually get a solid update on the project. I'm not denying anything you've said but it's silly to make assumptions based on the fact that not all the original Retro guys are there anymore.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Dev Retro Studios Continues Exciting Hire Spree With Call Of Duty: Black Ops Veteran

Kyranosaurus

@retro_player_77 Any releases for older games will be 100% on Nintendo, not Retro.
And to answer your question, no they don't sit around doing nothing. I know it's hard to believe but Retro can continue hiring up until even the polishing stages of development. I don't know where people have gotten this unwritten rule from that they aren't allowed to develop a game WHILST they hire more people. It's a really dumb game dev myth that I wish the public would throw away.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Dev Retro Studios Continues Exciting Hire Spree With Call Of Duty: Black Ops Veteran

Kyranosaurus

I love seeing all these people assume that a games company can't hire during development like "whoops, we just got a new guy, time to RESET development everyone!"
no but seriously. For people complaining, this is normal. The only reason this is being reported on more than any other Nintendo game for hires is because Retro is one of Nintendo's few WESTERN studios meaning it's a lot easier to find that information.

Even late development a company can continue to hire more people in order to help out with what we already have. I really wish people would stop making assumptions based on when they've brought a new person onboard. It's really quite obnoxious and while I understand people wanting to hear more about the game, this isn't something to rush when we KNOW that they had to start from fresh when they told us. Games are in development for longer than the public is actually made aware of and this is a rare exception. Thanks to that, people are assuming this thing can be pumped out in just a couple of years, it's absurd.

Re: Review: Pokémon Café Mix - Perfectly Pleasant Free-To-Play Puzzle Action

Kyranosaurus

Excuse me for being a killjoy but I don't believe "Monetisation isn't too intrusive yet" is a compliment nor a pro point towards a video game. That's like saying "there isn't TOO much poison in this food" like cool but I'd still rather the poison not be here.

Also before someone tells me, I KNOW that free games have to make their money somehow but it's the intrusiveness I'm ragging on. Anything that spoils the enjoyment of the main game is a downside imo. Carry on.

Re: Switch Joy-Con Drift Claim Must Be Arbitrated, Says Illinois Federal Court

Kyranosaurus

I actually bought brand new joycon a few months ago because I was worried the ones that came with my Switch would be more likely to start drifting soon.
Guess what? Those new joycon are the ones that as of a few days ago have begun drifting more and more as the days go on. I live in the UK too so we never got that benefit of allowing our joycon to be repaired for free (as far as I'm concerned). It's really a huge issue that interferes with gameplay and Nintendo needs to stop acting like it's none of their concern.
I love Nintendo to death but there's certain aspects of them which are SO damn corporate that you'd only expect companies like EA to be that stingy.

Re: Some Animal Crossing: New Horizons Players Are Reporting A New Progress-Stopping Glitch

Kyranosaurus

Unfortunately I'm one of the victims to this bug as of a couple hours ago. I downloaded the latest update before I started playing this morning and after not realising I passed this Nook Miles achievement, I noticed that the constant invasion of Bunny Day balloons had halted entirely despite there previously being no sign of them stopping before.

I'm in mild panic because I don't really care much for the Bunny Day stuff. I'm actually a lot more interested in the Sakura DIY recipes that are running at the same time. Similarly, while I have a couple of Sakura DIY recipes from the normal balloons, I'm also someone who wasn't given the picnic recipe that other players are saying they got from Isabelle. There was no actual mention of the Sakura event and I'm desperately hoping this is all fixed so I can get the actual DIY recipes I was aiming for...

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's 5th DLC Character Will Be Revealed On 16th January In Livestream

Kyranosaurus

Considering the whole Fighter pack has been thrid party characters, I think people should shrink their expectations down to third part characters.

For a lot of people this is great though! Only time will tell who it could be and I'd love to hope this means Sakurai can relax after this but unfortunately he's given himself another Fighter's Pack to work on...

Fight on, Sakurai!!

Re: UK Retailer GAME To Close 40 Stores In "Rationalisation Programme"

Kyranosaurus

@Protocol_Penguin That may or may not be true but what I'm trying to say here is that way before any of this was even considered an issue, GAME had been in this same hot water before.

Before the European Union had ever been considered a topic to dominate current politics, GAME had shown both poor judgement and management, amazing people time and time again how a company could be in trouble for so long yet last so long. I'm not making this up to say that Brexit isn't an issue either. I'm simply saying that the chances of this happening purely because of it, and not (yet again) due to GAME's own incompetence is highly unlikely.

Dig through past news articles of the last 2 decades if you don't believe me because this one isn't the first.

Re: UK Retailer GAME To Close 40 Stores In "Rationalisation Programme"

Kyranosaurus

@Protocol_Penguin Not that I want to agree nor disagree with you on whether Brexit is an issue, but it's not actually the reason here why GAME is in hot waters.
As a retailer, GAME has proved time and time again they are unable to adapt and be competitive as a whole.

Personally I'm surprised they've been able to hang around for so long but I'll still be somewhat upset if they did go.
I used to buy my stuff from them all the time but not only does it feel like their stock in-stores is bare bones all the time, but their prices even for pre-owned things are often way too demanding.

I used to work at one years back when I needed a job and it's probably one of the worst experiences as a retail employee. Being forced to try selling add-ons here and there. Disc insurance here, pre-owned versions when the customer clearly wanted a brand new one. I feel like if GAME was more consumer friendly they wouldn't have to act as desperately as they do on a normal basis.
People would get mad at you and there was nothing you could do because it's simply how you was told to work.

I don't know much on if GAME is different now but maybe if they get new management for the whole company, they'll still have a chance to kick back with customer trust and loyalty.

Re: Talking Point: Even Dexit Couldn't Derail The Pokémon Hype Train In 2019

Kyranosaurus

@johnvboy That's really weird because I'm not seeing the complainers telling people they can't enjoy the game but are instead simply expressing their disappointment in the future of the series.

Everyone else including yourself oddly enough, seem to be turning your noses up at their ridiculous idea that people would want better out of this game and pointing at how sales figures clearly make that irrelevant.

If repeating yourself with "the complainers are in the minority" for the billionth time whilst pasting winking faces makes you happy and convinces you this is good for the series then so be it. I think you've repeated yourself so much it'd be impossible to get anything else out of you anyway.

Re: Talking Point: Even Dexit Couldn't Derail The Pokémon Hype Train In 2019

Kyranosaurus

@johnvboy "All the complaining people one here could do a lot better job at developing video games, it's just so easy."

Late to the party but I love this argument because it's the same dumb argument that someone who doesn't cook has no idea what they're talking about if they don't like the food.
Nice to see you're back to patronising people too.

Carry on.

Re: Talking Point: Even Dexit Couldn't Derail The Pokémon Hype Train In 2019

Kyranosaurus

I think the best thing about video games are how sales numbers increase the quality of their graphics and polish the bigger they are and instantly prove people wrong about how the game is mediocre and hasn't improved.
...
....what's that? It doesn't!? Well call me a useful magikarp in a snowfield, I was sure I proved those haterz how dumb they were for having standards.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Beats Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order To Claim Number One Spot (UK)

Kyranosaurus

@Sciqueen @Preposterous

Same lmao. So many people are saying "take that haters" as if:

1. The people criticising the games actually want them to be bad.
2. The people criticising the games weren't pokemon fans to begin with.

If anything the "haters" are very much more than aware of the games inevitable success but that's exactly what makes this depressing.

Just to reiterate, this does not mean "you're not allowed to enjoy things". If you genuinely enjoy SwSh: Great! But there's people out there who are actually defending the low effort with complacency and excuses like "well I expect this from pokemon games so I'm fine with it" or "well it's too much work for a studio of their size".

Basically it means, great you "win" what you thought was a petty competition between who thought the game would sell and who didn't (for some reason) but unless I see some major improvements next gen, all it means in the end is that it's cost us a truly great generational leap for this wonderful franchise.

Ignore that if you want. What can I do about it? It's just depressing that there's people who don't want better.

Re: Game Freak "Excited" To See How Pokémon Sword And Shield Players Respond To The Wild Area's Camera

Kyranosaurus

@GamingFan4Lyf I don't think it's easy at all to develop a good camera system. The only issue here is that other games have been perfecting this FOR them. There's absolutely tons of examples for them to take from including Nintendo themselves if they choose not to look at unpartnered companies.

Either way, I don't want to take away from that effort of how making a camera can be tricky, but it must be said.

Re: Game Freak "Excited" To See How Pokémon Sword And Shield Players Respond To The Wild Area's Camera

Kyranosaurus

@johnvboy
"I also have no issues with you and others wanting a better game, but you have to realize that the main market this game is aimed at will be over the moon with it."

Let me get this part straight. Me myself, and many others are aware that tons of people will still buy this game, but that doesn't actually change our opinions on the state of the game. What you're saying is not a new revelation or eye-opener. You're literally stating something that doesn't change that we want a better game. If we've already established WHY these complaints are in the minority then maybe that's why people are informing others of them? It makes a little more sense when you think about it that way. Again, I wont actually tell people that they aren't allowed to enjoy this game but if they didn't know about the issues then I'll let them know if they want.
