If you haven't played The Wonderful 101: Remastered on the Nintendo Switch yet, now you can finally try before you buy with a brand-new "wonder-size cadet" demo.
It will allow you to experience "about" two hours of content - including the game's prologue and all of Operation 001. Bonuses such as in-game currency and a selection of support items are available to enhance the experience and you'll also be able to transfer your save data to the full game.
In addition to this, you'll be able to play as the secret character Wonder-Bayonetta in the demo. She comes with the special Unite Morph.
As for existing players, don't worry - Platinum hasn't forgotten about you. There's actually a new update for the full game, bumping the game up to Version 1.03. This adds a "Wonderful Code" feature - allowing players to enjoy the same bonuses as the demo. These are the codes you'll need to input:
Vol.1 UMBRANGIFT - Unlocks “Wonder-Bayonetta”
Vol.2 ANGELSLAYERS - Unlocks “Wonder-Jeanne” and “Wonder-Rodin”
And here are the full patch notes for Version 1.03:
Patch details:
Added a new “Wonderful Code” feature.
Certain hidden elements of the game can now be unlocked by entering officially released codes.
Added a demo save data transfer feature.
When starting a new game, save data from the demo can be detected and transferred, allowing players to continue from the end of the demo.Fixed a number of bugs.
Will you be returning to the remastered version or trying out the new demo? Leave a comment below.

Well I'll try the demo since I have NO idea on if I'll like the game or not.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand Great game but it isn't the easiest to understand and takes a lot of commitment before things "click"... you know, gameplay that doesn't lend itself well to a demo. Anywho, there's an amazing game buried in there if you're willing to dig.
@Chowdaire agree, unless the demo happens to be the first half of the game 😂
Oh ya I have been wanting to buy this now I can try before I buy YAAA.
Hopefully, the framerate is at least more stable. (Seriously, how could a WiiU game run worse on the Switch, let alone the PS4?) I'll give the demo a shot soon.
Well, dang. Now I have to try the demo.
Did anyone else pre-order Bayonetta 3 two years ago when the listing was up? I sure did. Amazon still lists it in my 'things you pre-ordered years ago that are never coming' section
Agree with the first comments! If you are going to try the demo, make it sure to play it a couple of times at least.
First time, you hate it. Second time, you understand what's going on. Third time, you really feel one of the W101. Give the game a chance and it will pay back.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand It's an acquired taste. If DMC/Bayonetta-esque games are your thing then you may enjoy this, but it's certainly a quirky title. Personally it's not my favorite by them, but I think they deserve points for finding a wholly new way of building a combat system around that 'stylized action' trope. There's really nothing else quite like it out there!
I backed the Kickstarter (eagerly awaiting the remaining items which ship in December) so I have this game on PC and Switch but I haven't played the remastered version yet. I loved this game on Wii U, it was my favorite game for that system and it's my second favorite game of all time! I highly recommend people try the demo before buying it, it has a learning curve that some will find off-putting at first, playing through the demo twice should help you understand and enjoy it better. As others have said it won't "click" with you right away (I was the same) so see if you like the demo first before going and getting the full thing.
One of the most overrated WiiU games. It's a lot of fun and has good ideas, but the controls are far away from perfect and often doesn't make sense. The game is ok, but not that secret tip.
Bayonetta 3! Pls! Give me something Platinum! I want this game so bad!
Still waiting for the DLC news
Nice, this is Platinum's best game by a landslide in my opinion, i hope this will help to get it some more attention.
I would’ve preferred a Bayonetta 3 demo.....or even a single screenshot from the game.
I really enjoyed it on Wii U, but I couldn't get into it second time round on Switch. I still think Nier Automata is still Platinum's finest work. I loved Astral Chain, but actually prefer the 1st Bayonetta to the second.
I loved it on the Wii U, but I felt it lost something without the use of the gamepad both for drawing and the screen puzzles.
Hey that reminds me, when I backed this game on Kickstarter, there was specific mention about DLC coming and being free for backers. Umm, it’s been crickets since release. Anybody hear about Platinum still making DLC for this game or has that just become another reason to avoid Kickstarting games in the future?
I can't wrap my head around the concept of a post-release demo. I really can't.
@sleepinglion I preordered it as well! Mostly to lock in my 20% discount from Best Buy before that was sadly discontinued.
@sleepinglion "Did anyone else pre-order Bayonetta 3 two years ago"
Does 1 year, 11 months and 1 week count? Amazon recently sent me an email telling me the delivery date has changed from Dec 31, 2020 to Dec 31, 2021. Some day.
I played the demo last night, wasn't enjoying it, despite playing it on Wii U. Definitely a learning curve w/ drawing a circle.
Dope wanna try this game out because I heard the switch version wasn't very good
I think they even improved the framerate. I don't see extreme dips. They are there, don't get me wrong, but the situation is much better than it was during the launch period. It hovers around 50 fps but I have no scientific proof of that. Just judging by the eye. Great news!
@sleepinglion not on amazon, but yes, I did. Bayonetta, Zelda, No More Heroes, and some other franchises are always instant pre-orders. I may not longer collect games like I used to, and may not even want to spend even remotely the budget I used to spend on games, but if these games get special editions or something like the glow in the dark Luigi's Mansion 3 steelbook or some nice physical pre-order bonus, I still like that a lot.
I still haven't played the kickstarter copy of W101 I eventually received, but more Bayonetta can't be a bad thing (and W101 was already a great, albeit slightly too hectic) game on Wii U. I'll make sure to get these extra's later today, and once finished with Borderlands I'll replay W101, or should I say play it for the first time on Switch?
Recently downloaded the Switch version due to the sale.. I have already played through the Wii U one I liked it.
It actually is a really cool idea imo.
@Chowdaire Yeah, I'd think a demo at launch would have even hurt sales. But now it might get some people to jump in, so I think it's a smart decision to release a demo later on for this kind of game.
I love this game (hence my avatar) but I havent bought the rehash as I havent heard of improvements, only issues so I will try this demo to see if it is worth double dipping.
@AlexSora89
I find it more reasonable than Activision's demo for Crash Bandicoot 4, only available for digital preorders of the game.
@Chowdaire ?! Chowdaire?!
IT'S CHOWDER, GET IT RIGHT!
Nice... I still need to play the copy I bought. Tried it out for a few minutes a week or so ago.
I really need to dig into my backlog. I think I’m going to make a rule for myself. Out of all my Switch games games, I need to finish at least half before I buy any new hardware.
Pretty reasonable, but still time consuming goal.
for what it's worth, these work on the PC version as well. I only know because I opted for the physical Switch version on the Kickstarter campaign and got the PC version as part of the "sorry for the delay" bonus...
@Ks123 Same! Amazon had a similar offer back then
I highly recommend reading platinum’s tw101 blog tips and tricks 25 and 26. https://www.platinumgames.com/official-blog/games/the-wonderful-101/
Every enemy has an audio or visual tell - once the game clicks you’ll find that you can avoid every attack, even from off screen.
It isn’t intuitive that they lock dodge and block in the beginning; you have to unlock these crucial moves from the in-game store...at least from what I recall from the Wii U version but that changes everything.
This was originally released on the Wii U against metal gear solid 5 at the time and left to die but this game is a real gem if you give it a chance.
