Re: Feature: Reimagining The Wind Waker on Wii U

Kage_88

@6 - Er, you mean games like...Zelda?

Jeez, I still remember when I first saw the reinvented visuals of 'Zelda Cube' in a magazine (didn't have the 'net back then). I couldn't believe Nintendo would do such a ballsy thing as taking a realistic Zelda which everyone LOVED, and re-creating it as a water-shaded cartoon (which people...erm, loved less). Personally, I thought it was great move - and it was a perfect example of Nintendo's whimsical and care-free attitude.

Gaz, you actually make an interesting point of Nintendo using Wind Waker HD as a 'testing ground' for new ideas; particularly potential voice acting.

Re: Prepare To Be Jealous At This Amazing Nintendo Collection

Kage_88

Freakin' amazing!

I myself have been recently collecting rare/underappreciated/sleeper-hit Wii games (and there are a lot of 'em), because I know they'll be worth something one day.

Like Yamazaki, I also cannot rest until I have Yamuchi's autograph...

...but replace 'autograph' with 'urine sample'.

Re: Gunman Clive Developer: 3DS eShop Is "Healthier" Than iOS

Kage_88

For me, the reason why I would see eShop as being more "healthy" than iOS is because the lack of overwhelming garbage that is found in the app store.

Bertil Hörberg has point in implying that iOS is a victim of its own success; it is getting harder and harder to seperate the wheat from the chaff, and it seems developers are struggling to get their products noticed. It could be seen that the eShop success of Gunman Clive could be attributed to the relatively barren landscape of Nintendo's digital store - rather than any form of 'stand-out' service.

Still, it is a great sign that games on eShop CAN do well, regardless of the determining factors. It is also encouraging to hear the positive reactions to Nintendo's improving relationship with indie devs.

Re: Team Ninja: Wii U Is "Definitely Next Generation"

Kage_88

@Kirk - but that is exactly it. The Wii U IS a 'next-gen' console, because the definition of 'next-gen' is changing.

The old days of 'playing with power' and 'blast processing' are finished. With the Wii, Nintendo relised that the future of gaming was not pure power - but how players could INTERACT with these digital worlds. Like it or not, but the industry NEEDED the Wii; if Nintendo hadn't so radically disrupted what was 'acceptable', then gaming would have likely stagnated.

The Wii U is a continuation of this ideology; it IS next-gen - simply because of that fact. The lineage of 'conventional' gaming consoles is dying out. Everything is being streamlined and connected; and the lines between 'home console' and 'handheld' are becoming increasingly blurry.

Sony and Microsoft have now also realised this (what with Move, Kinect, PS Mobile, Smartglass, etc), and now they're playing catch-up. Apple has jumped onto the bandwagon a lot more successfully, and other companies are attempting the same - such as Ouya, Valve, Facebook, etc.

Yosuke Hayashi's comments reflect this. Now, I'm not saying that software and hardware makers should ignore the progression of 'power'; after all, without power, we'd still be playing Pong. I'm just saying that mouth-breathing 'hardcore' gamers (AKA self-entitled whiners who are anything but 'hardcore' - usualy the PC master race), need to open their minds and realise that games can be so much more than polygons, or 4K resolution, or Cybernet-esque AI.

Re: The Nintendo 64 Kids Recall The Christmas When Santa Knocked It Out Of The Park

Kage_88

Man, I remember when I got MY N64 all thos Christmases ago...

My first game was Diddy Kong Racing, and my brother's first was...Clayfighter 63 1/3.

Yes.

However, we loved both games - regardless of what review scores they received. I still recall being amazed by all the speech samples and taunts the characters would throw at each other in Clayfighter, and the massive, cartoon world of DKR. Ah, those were the days...

Re: Warren Spector Hints At Epic Mickey 3

Kage_88

I haven't played Epic Mickey 2 yet, but I really admire Warren Spector's enthusiasm - especially in this cynical day and age.

Maybe the threequel could include rejected Marvel and Star Wars material?

Re: ZombiU Producer "Disappointed" By Early Reviews

Kage_88

@CharbroiledEwok - Miiverse is surprisingly great when looking for opinions. Contrary to what the haters think, it is not a heavily modified, propaganda-fest. I've seen very few comments that have been modded.

Also, the people are really happy and enthusiastic. They are REAL people who actually like things, not deranged forumites that suck joy from every facet of life.

Re: ZombiU Producer "Disappointed" By Early Reviews

Kage_88

Most reviewers and games 'journalists' are actually chimpanzees. True fact.

As for ZombiU; I'm enjoying it. There are some aspects of the game that annoy me (especially one particular action-focused scene that infuriated me), but overall, I like the game. It is true survival horror; not some namby-pamby, hold-your-hands crap that sites like IGN and Gamespot wanted it to be.

Also, people need to read the ZombiU Iwata Asks; it is revealed that the original Just Dance on Wii was chastised by reviewers for not being 'accurate' enough...and it turns out that they missed the point of the game entirely.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Its Version of iTunes For 3DS

Kage_88

Nice. I look forward to not having this in Aus!

@bahooney - I still prefer to by CDs, rather than downloading...technology scares me too.

@triforcepower73 - Yeah, I don't know why the 3DS' music is so quiet. Maybe Nintendo are looking out for the ear-health of their players?

Re: Those Wii U Launch Details Might be Coming in September

Kage_88

@SkywardLink98 - Huh? You can't really say there aren't any good games on Wii U without actually playing them. Even then, it's obvious there ARE good games. Pikmin 3? Batman? ZombiU? ACIII? NSMBU? Hello?

You clearly have no idea what you're saying. Reggie never said that fans complained about the Wii U's lack of quality software - he was saying that they were never satisfied with what they're given.

Re: Satoru Iwata: Demand for Rich Experiences on Handhelds "Not Going to Go Away"

Kage_88

I recently got myself a Samsung Galaxy, and I decided to try out Angry Birds.

My God...I've never played a game so boring in all my life.

Even after playing a bunch of other games (many of which ARE good), I still cannot see myself abandoning traditional handheld consoles anytime soon. A phone is a muti-use device - not a game console. Using the thing for everything (besides making actual calls) sucks the battery life like nothing else, AND I still need to pay a monthly fee.

Yeah, the 3DS and Vita aren't going anywhere.

@BestBuck123 - Geez, I don't know where to begin with you, fella. How is Iwata "talking crap?"

And in case you haven't noticed - Nintendo are still making good games. They have never stopped making good games. You say not a single game on Wii U or 3DS appeals to you? What the hell do you want, then?

@OlympicCho - Gee, what a surprise, the iZombie once again spreads his vitriol...

Look, buddy - even if the iPhone/iPad was somehow a videogame heaven, there would still be some people in the world (like myself) who would still refuse to bow down to Apple, due to their horrible business practices and dodgy products. Hell, when I bought my phone, I was advised by the store AGAINST buying an Apple product becuase of their shady tactics.

Re: Nintendo Power Magazine Will End With December Issue

Kage_88

Man, that sucks. I've never read Nintendo Power, but I've had plenty of other magazines I loved go out of print here in Aus - so I know the pain.

Unfortunately, that's just the state of print these days. At least the publisher can be proud for making NP Last so long.

Re: SEGA Declares Wii U Capabilities to be "On Par" or Better Than PS3

Kage_88

@ThomasBW84 - Thanks for that heads-up, man!

Besides, it's already been confirmed numerous time that the Wii U is more powerful than the HD twins. I mean, if games like ACIII and Arkham City are LAUNCH WINDOW games for Nintendo's new console, I can't wait to see what it'll be able to produce a few years down the road...let's remember, devs are still getting to grips with the architecture.

I mean, remember the launch games for Xbox 360 and PS3? Yeah.

Re: Rayman Legends is Exclusive to Wii U

Kage_88

I didn't enjoy Rayman Origins as much as I thought I would, TBH.

It felt as though the game outstayed its welcome, and it began to feel like a chore to play. Oh, and 19Robb92, I actually agree. Though beautifully animated, I found the character designs to be pretty lame...as if they were sketched in 5 seconds before being placed into the code.

Oh, and Ubisoft - palette-swaps do not constitute multiple playable characters!

Re: Developers Enthusiastic About Wii U's Download Service

Kage_88

@LollipopChoSaw - So what? The eShop is doing exactly what it was designed to do - and that's what's important. At least it's confirmed that Nintendo are actually working at improving their online services.

If you want to arbitrarily bring up the fact that Nintendo's online services are inferior to the competition, then allow me to retort as such...

Nintendo's games are superior to the competition...so there.

Re: Sakurai Spills Some Beans On Super Smash Bros. 4

Kage_88

I'm glad the Sakurai is prioritising innovative and fresh gameplay over bloated features (though, that's not to say it WONT be bloated with said features).

Oh, and for Christ's sake - there WILL NOT be any stupid Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts characters in the game, okay? There WILL NOT be any inclusion of friggin' Goku from Dragon Ball... got it? There WILL NOT be any of Sonic's moronic friends as playable characters, capiche?

@grimbldoo - Just because Sakurai said "introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game," doesn't automatically mean their WON'T be any 3rd-party characters - it means their inclusion should be meaningful, and not just blind fan-service. Indeed, I believe Pac-Man's inclusion would fit such criterea, for reasons I've stated in other threads.

Re: Turok Developer Wants To See N64 Versions On Virtual Console

Kage_88

Man, I used to play the Turok games so much as a kid...

To this day, it still amazes me how much juice Iguana managed to squeeze from the N64 when they made them. I still remember being blown away by the incredible animation of the enemies in Seeds of Evil, or the lip-synched characters in Oblivion.

Re: Could The Wii U GamePad Suffer From Latency?

Kage_88

I can't believe people are actually worried about this.

First, this input delay could be attributed to ANYTHING; signal interference in the environment, pre-alpha build, or simply the fact that Bioware are being a little incompetent with their programming (I'd say the second one).

Second, after spending millions on the Wii U's R&D, I doubt Nintendo have overlooked the problems of latency regarding the GamePad. That's just silly.

Third; it seems to me this whole article from ShackNews has been blown out of proportion simply because the writer reported a few niggles with the GamePad. Like NL said, it's the '45 min download' fiasco all over again. The internet LOVES exaggerating this crap.

The input for the Wii U GamePad WILL BE FINE. You have good ol' Kage's guarantee, ya hear?

Oh, and I agree with Pikachupwnage...the morons on Gamefaqs will be going into overdrive!

Re: Dragon Quest X Storms to Number One in Japan

Kage_88

I guess many Japanese fans are waiting for the Wii U version of DQX...I don't know whether those sales are impressive, or not. On one hand, it's Dragon Quest, so the figures could be seen as underwhelming. On the other hand, those are some impressive numbers for a game on the (basically dead) Wii.

Well, whichever way it's viewed, the game IS No.1, so that can only be a good thing.

Re: Square Enix Targets Ten Years of Support for Dragon Quest X

Kage_88

@Wheels2050 - Ah, nice catch. I didn't even see that bit...

Still, I'd really like to see Square-Enix give DQX a lot of post-release support (and not just make half-assed 'Horse Armour' esque DLC).

And, if that's the case, then it'd be interesting to see if the Wii version will receive substantial DLC...

Re: Mobile Publisher Believes Nintendo Ecosystem May 'Fall Apart'

Kage_88

@47drift - Damn, you stole my line!

As for his claims...I actually kinda agree with him.

Yes, Hell just froze over.

As big a Nintendo supporter as I am, it would be ignorant of me to pretend that the advent of Android/iOS powered super phones haven't fundamentally altered the gaming landscape - which they indeed have.

I don't think this Neil Young is foretelling the 'doom' of Nintendo; but rather, he believes that their "ecosystem" (i.e markets and main avenues of profit) are in for a hefty fight thanks to the likes of Apple - and it's hard to argue otherwise.

HOWEVER, I also believe that Nintendo will adapt and survive - hell, they've been doing it for 120 years. Iwata recently said that it is imperative for the company to provide unique experiences in order to carve out a profitable niche for themselves - and it's a mantra I find very wise, indeed.

Oh, and as Haywired rightly pointed out - it's ironic to acuse of moble games of not being for 'real gamers', considering it's those kinds of idiotic statements that Nintendo fans have had to endure for the Wii's six years.

There is no such thing as 'casual' and 'hardcore', and there are no barometres that measure a videogame's 'legitimacy'. Games are fore everyone; and if you like to play games - whether it'd be Angry Birds on a mobile or Battlefield 3 on a PC - then you're a gamer.

PS - Yes, and I do know that Nintendo themselves use the term 'casual and 'hardcore', but I always believed that they hate doing so
